  • Rebuilding a Carburetor on a Yamaha TTR 125 Dirt Bike. www.CharlieKingCoaching.com. This video teaches you how to rebuild a carburetor on a Yamaha TTR 125 Dirt Bike Motorcycle.
    A DIY guy but I've never worked on a motor cycle. We bought a TTR 125 for my son and it started dumping fuel and wasn't idling correctly. After trying to clean the carburetor or carb without any change to the performance, I decided that it's time to rebuild the carburetor. If your bike is backfires or is backfiring, dumping fuel, or puking fuel, not idling, won't start, will not start, is constantly flooded or is flooding, consider rebuilding the carburetor. It will improved fuel economy (improve gas mileage), run better, higher performance, go faster, won't stall anymore, and be more enjoyable to ride!
    This is a job any DIY'r can do, so go out and try it!

    Great how to video! I've never tried to rebuild a carburetor - and I don't own anything with a carburetor anymore! I like the photo idea, and I'm thinking: take a video when taking it apart, then play it backwards to remember how to put it back together!

    This looks similar to a Honda XT125 I rebuilt. I have a TW200 now, (rebuilding soon!) which I'm noticing is very similar to your TTR. I recall that there is a screw that has to be turned a certain number of times according to the manual. Where is that screw on your carb? Great video, thanks for the steady camera work!

    Great Video Bud. I restored 2 TTR’s a 90 and a 125. I clean the carbs out at least twice a year.
    I will let the jets sit in carb cleaner for about 10 minutes after spraying them then I take a guitar string and put it through the jets then use an air compressor. The tiniest piece of debris will clog the jets and sometimes a pain in the ass to get the smallest piece out.
    They are both 2007 stock and never had to put new jets in. Just replace the gasket. Also have to Honda CRF 50/ 70 and 110 and those Honda’s will start up forever with very low maintenance.

      Such great feedback Philly! It really is just the SMALLEST fleck can mess with your carbs. Air compressor would probably made a big difference. Thx!

      +Kevin Perez Are you referring to the black hose on the top? I did not track it in either direction. I *think* (and may be wrong) that it it's a pressure overflow hose.

    what you called the throttle body is actually the throttle slide. a throttle body is something used mainly in cars, similar to a carb, but slightly different. it was used after carbs but before electronic fuel injection
    after that at 9:10 that's the main jet not main throttle body
    yes it is normal that the float pin comes out easy. it's normally held in by the edges of the bowl
    19:00 once more, throttle slide

    I have a question. I rebuilt my carb. the issue I'm having is I can figure out what spot I should set my idle and my air fuel mix screw.

    • @CharlieKingCoaching
      @CharlieKingCoaching  7 років тому +1

      Rafael, great question. The only way I know if to run the bike sand adjust it while it's idling. Listen to the idle speed so it neither sounds like the engine is lugging or running too hard. Hope this helps!

    • @smokedowngethigh
      @smokedowngethigh 5 років тому +1

      For future reference, before removing the idle mix screw, bottom it out and take note of how many turns it took to bottom out. Then remove it. When you go back to reassembling it, bottom it out and then back it off however many turns it took you to bottom it out before.

    At 10:39 there should also be a washer and o ring in there. It can help if you look at a part diagram online. Also I like to take my carborators to get cleaned In an ultrasonic cleaner.

      Scary stuff, I *think* it's a carcinogen as well (linked to increased risk of cancer). Happy to wear thick gloves using that stuff ;-)

      @pat9861 5 років тому

      It also destroys rubber in the carb e.g. the gaskets and that sort of stuff. Just clean it in the fuel it runs on. A eye dropper works well to push fuel through it to clean it
