Great video, clear instructions and demo, top job. Was going to buy this kit to apply a render of vermiculite Cement but now I know even a small particle size of vermiculite might clog the gun. Will have to stick with a hand gun unfortunately.
Great video mate, do you still have to rub it up with float and sponge as if it's smooth render?can you spray it on once the renders gone of if you wet the wall?
Cheers mate, so yeah in this video we scratched on then rubbed up sand and cement followed by spraying, I would say it’s probably better to spray it same day as the render is rubbed up but can do it once it’s cured
Bought the exact compressor and gun , but really struggled to get any decent results . Largest nozzle compressor couldn’t keep up with continual air flow , tried to mix it up nozzles and apertures. Seems impossible for a 3hp compressor to continually pump out max chat. Can you remember what nozzle and hole sizes you used ?
Drakey, I've tried this but the finish I get is more orange peel than tyrolean. Although I am using an 8bar compressor (50L), it struggles if I try to match the consistency you have in your video and you seem to have got just the finish I want. I have tried different nozzles & orifice plate settings to no avail. Your suggestions would be most welcome. I presume that you had your own trial and error period?
Tbh bud the finish I got could be described as orange peal I guess to a degree, try playing with the pressure less would spit it out and give you a more rustic finish but yes it is trail and error
Oncewasdonka tbh I’ve not used it in a long time but there is no reason why it wouldn’t I cleansed it out with brick acid etc and worse case I think I paid £60 could be less which is the cost of a Labour but does 4 times the graft lol
Minter of a video, I’ll be doing this on a massive job in Melbourne, got a hand held gun won’t be bothering with that, what’s it like blending in as this job way to big to do in one hit
strawberry cure cheers. Because this was done in sand and cement and get painted afterwards blending in was perfect wear as if it was a colour render I’m not sure, I think getting it all the same shade would be the difficult thing I see jobs all the time where the tyrolean looks patchy and always wondered why it does that let me no how you get on with it any tips would be appreciated
Could I use this to apply a scratch coat to brick? Flatten it out after. Then apply this textured finish as a top coat. Looking to save time as I have a house to do on my own.
Hiya Drakey, got the gear, however the compressor you are using is now stopped machine Mart have told me the equivalent is the Einhell 400/50. Can I ask what psi did/do you set the gauge at ie 120 psi or more! Gonna do a gable end tomorrow..I'm apprehensive as I've never used one before!!! Cheers for the inspiration
@@DannyDrakey Thanks Drakey, I used building sand, cement and lime at a ratio of 4 x1 x1 to a consistency of cream...It worked but the gun had problems, the washer inside came loose and hindered the functioning of the spraying, I put this down to us shaking the hopper. I took the gun back and they swapped it...
Cheers mate I think I’ll keep to the Tyrolean u don’t need to add any rendering sand to the mix just spray it on in several passes ?I’m going on a old render building will fill where needed though with a base coat
Hsilver dale I suggest just practice on a board or something once you get going it’s pretty easy just make sure there is no little stones in the mix coz it blocks the gun and it needs to be surprisingly wet I found
@@DannyDrakey nice job mate! I just brought a gun & hopper for about £60.00 On eBay. What compressor will I need to spray a coloured tyrolyne which is premixed. Any info will be greatly appreciated thank you mate 👍
bcfc red army www.machinemart.co.uk/p/airmaster-tiger-16510-3hp-50-litre-air-compre/ think it’s this one mate you could probably hire one, let me know how you get on I see a lot of the Colour finishes drying in different shades in patches I would love to know how you get on cheers
@@anthonywilliams2764 Yes, it did. It did 'spit' quite a bit and I did wonder whether the 50 might have been better. Overall I am very pleased with the end result.
Rob Jones 14.5cfm is what the compressor i was using I would recommend using the same I haven’t tried anything less tho. A big tip is to make sure there is no little stones etc because the gun easily gets blocked
Petrol Headz tbh I just used normal rending sand but what I had to do was sift the sand through a mesh like what you would use for k-rend to separate the aggregate this is very important other wise it gets blocked, and yes I use the big nozzle
Petrol Headz probably mate try it no idea if it sets as well as sharp sand. We used rendering sand because we had about 6 ton on the job and the job went to plan
You can hire the compressor and there probably is hire shops around the country that do hire the guns, I would just buy the gun hire a compressor make sure there is enough Money on the job to cover it
Just what i was looking for, good video mate.
Awesome help, thank you. Now I can try it

good one. like it
I know it’s old video but I’m getting one to spray a key for when I’m on painted walls instead of hand slapping rendaid! 👊
Cheers mate good video nice and simple, I will use this useful information in the "summer"
Den Deko thanks buddy
Cracking video. Plain, simple and informative. Good job 👍
ultimate exterior protection thanks mate 👍

Appreciate it bro

Hmmm so I used a pretty big compressor there tbh it’s a big tank but I’ve seen people use smaller I can’t remember which size nozzle

Get a 14 cfm at least 100 psi

Great video bud just about to buy this what size hose was on the compressor thanks
Paul Bradley cheers bud, I used a really long one I can’t remember of the top of my head but sure it was like 10m or more
@@DannyDrakey A slightly thicker hose would give more pressure.

Do you recommend building up by layers - e.g. put on 4-5mm and leave it for a day to go off before repeating until you get the desired thickness?
No I did it in one session just made sure it had a good coat
Could you use this internally for building up coats quicker, Also is there a 110v version?
You can get a 110 compressor, you wouldn’t use this to build out
What cfm is that unit?
how can I get the machine. And how much is it going to cost me.
As stated in the video mate all from machine mart I don’t know how much these guns cost now can get them probably online cheaper
Hi watch your video did you mix with
Cement sand and lime or did you buy ready mixed tyrolean bags
Just a sand and cement mix mate 4:1 plus normal additives
good video lad thanks, which hopper did you use? I've got one somewhere but haven't got the bastard nozzles lol
sam craddock cheers bro here’s the link www.machinemart.co.uk/p/ctg-8-air-texture-gun/ k
@@DannyDrakey ah good lad!! does it matter what nozzle you used , got tyro job in a few weeks and the existing is real heavy
sam craddock tbh mate I just used what it came with and used the biggest hole
Do you apply this onto your scratch coat mate?
No I applied this onto a rubbed up finish of sand and cement. It’s only a thin layer just like tyrolean
what sand did you use to stop clogging
Andy Anderson I used rendering sand it was full of little stones so I sieved the sand through a sheets of k rend mesh
Can you use building sand?
Could I use this to apply a scratch coat to brick? Flatten it out after. Then apply this textured finish as a top coat. Looking to save time as I have a house to do on my own.
Aj Nosm no it’s doesn’t go on thick enough
@@DannyDrakey thank you. Could I apply straight over scratch coat or is it to go over a top coat as a final finish coat.
Aj Nosm apply it over rubbed up render for best finish do it same day you run up render if possible
@@DannyDrakey okay thanks for help.
Drakey , Top vid , can i ask what the mix you used for the spray coat
Just your normal 4:1 with your usual additives mate

Just remember to siv all the little aggregate out the sand 👍
Do u think it would be possible to use this method with k rend great vid

leemac1980 think it was just a normal 4.1 sand and cemet with the usual additives mate
Whats the render mix 4to1 with lime and waterproof?
Yeah 4.1 didn’t use lime used a 3 in 1 additive (plasticiser, retarder, waterproofer)
What make and Model is your compressor fella?

Any lime in your Tyrolean mate??
Rocky slack not in this mix but if you wanted to add it to the mix it wouldn’t make any difference to the way it’s applied
If this is all you are running off the compressor, could you get away with a 25 litres/min compressor?

Jason Griffiths yeah it didn’t need refilling once

Can it be sprayed straight onto a block wall without rendering ??
Alan Meek no i tried it it needs to be flat render first mate
Could spray gun spray silicon 1.5 thin coat
