    They do not breed they reproduce through breakage. Each part grows into a new worm. They are only kept cold to slow down their metabalism. Keep at room temp is fine. I keep in sharpe gravel to increase breakage when stiring. Keep water clean with a foam filter and feed infrusia, Algea powder(Spirolena) or regular fish food they eat mostly anything you give them including fish edible plants. The more messy the food the more often you will need to do water changes.

    I guess theyre like Tublifex Worms that thrive on bacteria. Some people in Thyland put Tubliflex in with their Betta fry to keep the tank clean. The fry are too small to eat them so it works out great.

    I have one going but I’m using plain ink less cardboard pieces and I’ve been also feeding them some fish flakes . It seems like they’re healthy and getting really long . A friend told me it’s better to cut them in smaller pieces before feeding them to my bettas but I like the way they chase them when I release them into the containers 😅 I usually feed the smaller ones live

  • @larajones1716
    @larajones1716 5 років тому +2

    I love these guys! Blackworms most commonly reproduce asexually through fragmentation. A worm breaks apart and both pieces redevelop whatever they’re missing and they become a completely new worm. Love your videos, Taylor!

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  5 років тому +1

      I guess I could have explained that better in the video but I was being lazy! haha maybe in my update video. I have heard that because of that it is better to house them on a gravel substrate because it will encourage fragmentation but I'm not enturely sure how accurate that is

    • @larajones1716
      @larajones1716 5 років тому

      It worked really well for me when I kept blackworms. I would occasionally (and gently!) move the gravel around with my fingers to encourage fragmentation. Can’t wait for the update.

    I heard if you use 5-6 inches of water, with a sponge filter and an air stone, also with gravel as substrate that they tend to do really good. I think black worms themselves don’t breed but they break into segments and that’s how they repopulate. That’s why I think gravel will be better because the segments get broken up much easier especially since their food tends to sink down and they ball up too.

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  5 років тому

    I feed mine fish food. They are raised in the planted tanks with my fish. They act just like a terrestrial earthworm in an aquarium.
    Given a good substrate, they keep it turned over and reproduce like mad. My fish eat their fill whenever they want. I run them in cold and warm water tanks. I feel blackworms are a healthy part of the soil ecology in a healthy aquarium.
    They also live in my filter/sumps.

    I don't have any aquariums right now, I used to have quite a few, never had a planted tank. Always wanted one, would like to try again, just don't know if my health and age will allow it. IF I do I know I want some male bettas, BUT I'd also like a female sorority........ That would mean two different aquariums, plus a hospital tank.unfortunately I don't have the room.So will have to decide what I really want, thinking about getting a 20 gal with a divider and have 2 male bettas, instead of the females. On to live food, as much as I'd love to breed bettas, no room, so I'd only want live food to spoil my bettas, just not sure would be easiest, since would not need a lot. Maybe should just stick to frozen hmmmmmmmm?

    • @SimplyBetta

      The consensus is that blackworms are better than tubifex

    What do you do with your female bettas after 2 months after breeding? Do you sell it and is there anybody who buys female bettas?

      I usually keep my breeder females. Most females I breed are quite pretty and go to the pet store ; )

    How did the culture turn out? Still going?

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  4 роки тому

      I didn’t notice any significant growth of the culture so I ended up just feeding them all to my fish and using that tank for something else. Space is a precious resource for me so I’ve decided that using my white worm and grindle worm cultures are a better use of space!

    3:55 that's definitely a leech....😨
    If you let it sit at room temperature for an hour or so, they start climbing the container & can be easily plucked out. Aside from you, those can be bad news for your betta(s)...

    Oh my goodness! Girl how can you touch those nasty things. Lol I can't hardy any bugs. A lady bug is about the only thing I can touch & then I don't look to close. I don't want to see the nasty eyes & antanas. Lol Love your videos!
