    Just traded my 2018 Niro PHEV in and picked up my 2020 Niro EV yesterday. It was brought from another dealership and they had to put about 120 miles on my car to get it there and after I drove it for a few errands and got it home it was at 65%. After giving it a full charge on a level 2 unit it listed its range at 289. I drove it 26 miles today while using regen 3 in eco mode and it was showing 273 miles left. Thought that was very impressive. I very much appreciate your channel and can say it helped influence me to go full EV as range anxiety was keeping me from doing this. Thank you for all your hard work and great reviews as it was very valuable in my decision.

    When I first got my MY I was having a difficult time with the lack of buttons. For instance, opening the glove box. But I quickly realizes that almost everything can be done by voice control. Press the right button on the steering wheel and say open glove box. No need to stretch across the car, spill your ice coffee, and search with your fingers for the small latch to eventually open the glove box. Or say open hatch, or open frunk, or open charge port, or turn on drivers seat warmer to medium…..you get the point. Almost no need to ever take your eyes off the road. Also, every switch that is deleted removes three points of potential failure….the micro switch within the switch, and a wiring connector on either end of the wire connecting the switch to the ECU. Thanks for another great video.

      Thanks for the information and I agree with you, but my comment about buttons comes more from a space where I think of other people, like my wife and not myself. Teslas will never be a car that my wife would buy because she is not technically inclined in any way. Think of her as being an 8 track tape whereas I am online streaming 😎. So if the car is too far from "normal" in terms of use, like opening the glove box, it becomes an issue for some people. My wife's comfort zone is her 2019 Kia Soul EV, with a regular shifter on the console and basic features; when she drives my Niro EV she very much dislikes the LKA and other tech included, so there is no way she would drive a Tesla, which is a shame because they are great. I hope that explains where my comment is coming from in a more clear way 😎

    Good review! I got my Kia Niro EV for $28,500 after tax rebate out the door. My friend just got the long range Tesla Y for just under $60k out the door. For the price 13 cu ft of storage 1 foot of room and 90 miles more on a charge to me wasn't worth more than $30k or 2x the price. These 2 cars are in a different class. Thank you for the info and thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it. As for sitting in the trunk, I should have done it 😂. In the video I compared the Standard Range version of the Model Y, not the Long Range, and the Model Y SR was actually less expensive than the Niro EV SX Touring so the comparison is pretty fair. The claimed ranges are also comparable with the Niro EV having 1km more at 385km claimed, but the Niro EV easily gets over 400km on one charge on a regular basis, and beats out the Model Y SR because Tesla claimed ranges are optimistic. Thanks again for subscribing and the Niro EV was a great choice, congratulations 😎.

    Another great review, though it would have been interesting for you to have had the Y for longer to see how it compared in real world efficiency and range. IMO this is a bit of an apples/oranges comparison in terms of size and price. We don’t have the Model Y in Europe yet but the standard range is likely to be about €10,000 more expensive than the e-Niro. The Y is a desirable car and a whole category of size bigger, I would see the Kia EV6 as more of a competitor in that respect. As I’m retired I am in for the long haul with the e-Niro as I doubt another new car would ever be on the cards. The more I drive it the more I like it and realise what good value it is (now on 44,000 km)...but of course the tech is moving so fast that its charging speed for one thing is already looking old...then again so am I!

Since there are no size comparison videos anywhere it can be difficult for people to imagine what they are like and that is the reason that I made the comparison. For those who are visual like me stats and numbers are of little use, but seeing the vehicles together makes things clear. Regarding the Standard Range version of the Y, it seems that there are none left to be had and it really is discontinued. I just found this out yesterday. As for the EV6 and Ioniq 5, as soon as I can get my hands on them I will definitely be making videos about them 😎. Merci encore.

The only thing constraining Tesla sales now is production capacity and the range of models they have but by the end of this decade there is no doubt that their sales volumes will be up there with the biggest and some OEMs will drop out or be much smaller as Tesla take sales from them. Not only is the ICE a dead technology, the sales model of the old OEMs is toast...just take oil changes as an example...with 35 million cars on the roads the UK spends about £3.5 billion on oil changes over year..probably more as the average price of an oil change is £114..and most people don’t do them themselves!.....that’s a lot of labout no longer needed...there will be a lot of unemployment as we no longer need so many mechanics...Tesla are a true disrupter taking us towards a cleaner future.

    Here in the UK, especially in towns, roads and parking spaces are not wide and for our purposes (we don't usually need the extra width) I regard extra width as a negative. Also, the extra power is great but how often is it used and how does it affect efficiency? Longevity, reliability and after care service are important to me. I'm unsure about Tesla longevity and it's an important question given the high cost of these cars. I'd choose the Kia.

      I understand about the extra size not being an advantage where you live, but with regards to longevity... There are Teslas with hundreds of thousands of miles on them and they are still going strong. One in particular comes to mind, an early Model S that was used as a taxi and accumulated 1,000,000 miles. I would not be concerned about quality with Tesla, they are known for having the best hardware and electronics in the world. The fit and finish are another story, but that does not affect longevity 😎

    People complaining about no access to the Tesla glovebox ignore several things. How often are you actually in your glovebox? Maybe just me, but hardly ever in the glovebox. If you need to access the glovebox, simply use voice command and say “open glovebox”. Everyone ignores the fact that a thief can’t get into the glovebox because there is no external access. You can even PIN protect the glovebox. On the current Model Y and 3, the Sentry Cam flash drive is located in the glovebox which prevents any thief or vandal from stealing the recorded evidence of their crime. So the glovebox has no button or latch, big deal.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  3 роки тому

      I access my glovebox 3 or 4 times per week. I am often in my car and my glovebox stores lots of things that I use regularly, as does my central console storage. This is a personal thing and the reason I mention it in the video. For other people it won't be an issue, but that is the reason that I say "I would prefer more buttons" in the video, this is not a directive telling everyone they should have more buttons, just what I would like for myself. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

    Actually the lack of buttons just isn’t an issue. I’ve been driving a Model 3 for 8 months now and in fact there are large easy access buttons across the bottom of the screen for the heated seats and there are also voice commands for everything, that actually work. Also the indicators become completely natural after an hour or so, to the point now that I can’t imagine using anything else. If you have flicked the lever far enough, past the three flashes detent, for them to indicate continuously then they’ll self cancel if you turn the wheel far enough or you can just flick the lever in the same direction again to manually cancel them. The rear motor is about 270bhp, by the way but the Tesla motors have a maximum speed of over 18000rpm so they use a differential ration of about 10:1, hence the “impressive” acceleration 😉

    I don't know where he got the pricing. My Kia Niro EV was $39,000 US, substantially less than the Model Y or Model 3. Also, Kia still qualifies for the $7500 US federal tax rebate while Tesla's rebates have expired here (based on the quantity of sold units). Thus, in my opinion, the Kia is a much better value. Last of all, I like the Kia's use of traditional controls rather than using a touch screen to run everything.

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  3 роки тому

      As shown in the at the beginning of the video, this was for the Standard Range Model Y and the Niro EV SX Touring, in Canada, and the SR Model Y was less expensive than the Niro EV SX, based on the Canadian MSRP. With that being said, the Niro EV is readily availble at many dealers now and can be had for about 52,000$ CDN, so pretty much the same price as the Standard Range Model Y if it was still available. Tesla had the Y SR off menu for many months, but the Model Y in the video was pretty much one of the last ones availble in Montréal (it is only about 1 month old). This means the SR is no longer available which is a shame because it would have continued to sell well since the price was excellent for what you got. The rebates are a different story though, the Niro is admissible for both the provincial and federal rebates where the Model Y was only admissible for the provincial rebate; so Niro EV = 13,000$ rebate, Telsa Model Y Standard Range = 8,000$ rebate, which can heavily influence the buying decision for some, but not all. I found that the speedometer on the top left hand side of the screen well placed and didn't really pay much attention to the rest of it while I was driving. I have a Model 3 which is the same layout. I find I can see the speed in the periphery of my vision whilst still looking at the road. When I am in a car with a conventional dashboard I have to briefly lower my head angle and look between the rim of the steering wheel and centre hub into the dark area where there is a dial that is difficult to tell actual speed detail beyond over or under a key speed e.g. 30mph. So I find the centre screen is (surprisingly) better in that respect.

    Ce modèle ne possède pas le système Uvo connect peut on l installer soit même ou pas sûrement Kia l installe lors de la fabrication du véhicule sinon est il indispensable ou pas
    Je voudrais savoir pourquoi avoir choisi le Niro et pas le Kona car ils sont équivalents question batterie (64) moi ce qui m’a fait choisir le Niro c’est le confort et l’espace le coffre plus grand

      Bonjour. Vous ne pouvez pas ajouter UVO, mais il existe une solution qui a été créée en 2019 car les first edition dans certains pays en Europe n'avaient pas UVO: www.openvehicles.com/
      Pour les raisons que j'ai choisi la Niro EV versus la Kona Electric, j'ai fait une vidéo en 2019 qui en parle, mais en résumé c'est l'espace supplémentaire pour les passagers arrière, ainsi que dans le coffre, la finition intérieur, et le look en générale.

      The basic question is... What are your needs? Hatchback, or sedan? AWD required, or is FWD/RWD ok? More passenger room needed, or not? What is the budget?
      EVs today have lots of range and speedy charging, and there is a nice selection, especially if your can wait a few months because new models are going to ship.
      Once your answer the basic questions then you can start picking an EV.

    • @AzizIzgin
      @AzizIzgin 3 роки тому +1

      @@EV-olution budget is around 430-46000Euro (Sweden has a climate bonus of 7000euro when buying a new car)
      The car is meant for the family, to kids (13 and 16years) and a small dog. We do not need awd nor hatchback but of course it would be nice. I'd prefer rwd for a change since I'm used to fwd from owning a volvo v70. I prioritize (but is not a must) to have good comfort and overall good user experience (infotainment and sunroof etc) and a good charging netwoork with hassle free charging.
      We will be charging at home mostly, we take longer trips 1-3 times a year within Sweden(mostly).
      So the only must have I can think of is maybe adaptive cruise control and some kind of autopilot. I like the "safety features that cars offer and camera features ...
      I have been reading and doing some research on the m3 but I'd like someone else objective perspective... I mean I feel sometimes like I'm being brainwashed from all the commercials and other rewiewers trying to promote a certain kind car so I am also opening my eyes on for example the id3/id4.
      To be honest, the m3 ticks almost every box of features I want. In the beginning I was looking for range, what car could go the furthest in my budget on highway10-80% battery at speeds between 110-130kmph?
      I really love the infotainment system they have and how snappy it is , cause according to me that gives you the overall user experice, that and the panorama sun roof....
      The cons I have red are the loud noise inside the car at least compaired to ps2 and id4 and that the seats are pretty hard during longer trips. Tesla is maybe not the best car built but it is the best EV imo.
      Insurance in Sweden is pretty hard too. They have a system where the price goes up radically the fourth year , so either pay or swap cars every three years haha...
      Regarding the price and model, I have read about the new battery standard from the m3 MIC sr+ but am a bit worried about it in cold winters, so maybe a used 2019-2020 LR is then a better choice for less money. Prices in Norway are so low I really can't believe it :)
      sorry for babbling but any thoughts would be nice. Should I just wait and not buy one?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  3 роки тому +1

      The Model 3 is a good choice especially since there are many used ones available in your market. There are not many choices for RWD EVs so the ID models or the Model Y are the only real choices that I can think of in the size, price and battery range.

      The SR version of the Model Y was recently removed from the Tesla Website and I was not aware, but it can still be ordered "off-menu" as Tesla puts it. My friend recently received his SR Model Y so I made the video and found out it was no longer available online after the fact. Barring the much higher price of the LR version, and the more difficult order process of the SR, the comparison is still useful for many people as they are considering both vehicles... at least that is what the couple of hundred comments I received on Facebook, Reddit, UA-cam, and forums tells me 😎.

    How’s the highway consumption? In relation?

    • @EV-olution
      @EV-olution  2 роки тому

      That is a good question. I made this video quite some time ago and did not do highway testing. It was a car that an owner lent me, not a press car. The 2019 - 2022 Niro EV has pretty good power consumption on the highway, but Tesla is the efficiency king. In the summer, with my Niro EV, driving on the highway at 113km/h in fair weather, I would get between 18 and 20kWh/100km. When I drove from Montréal to Québec City in the summer, it was 95% highway, I left with 100% charge and made it with about 65km of range left, but I don't remember the %. I did the same thing in the winter, cold with bad weather, and I had to stop to charge for 15 minutes. The drive distance in both cases was about 265km one way. In general my Niro EV would get 400km of summer range and 300km of winter range, with a mix of highway and city, but a bit more highway than city. I hope this helps.

    i think now it would be a better comparison to review the model y against the new hyundai ioniq 5 or the new kia ev6. both seems to be a real banger and maybe a real option to the teslas. i always hear that tesla is way in front in the ev-game but what hyundai is doing atm can not be overlooked from those tesla-fanboys- and girls. its the first dedicated platform from hyundai while the niro or ioniq platform was thought as a hybrid, plug-in and ev. i will follow this chanel to see what is coming next.

      Thank you very much and thank you for following my channel, it means a lot. Even worse, there are only 3 demo Ioniq 5 vehicles that arrived at Hyundai Canada headquarters in late June, 700km away from my house. In Canada there will be limited deliveries of the Ioniq 5 scheduled for late 2021, and the EV6 is supposed to be early 2022. I am trying to get Hyundai Canada to give me access to an Ioniq 5, but so far no luck. I think my channel needs to be bigger before Hyundai Canada pays attention... which sucks. I will do my best 😎
