That patina on the copper looks freakin' great. I had been on the fence between buying that one and the MUCH more expensive fired blue finish, but I'm definitely going for that one now!
Nearly everybody writes everyday and it's an important tool, yet most people settle for the cheapest ballpoint that's on hand at the moment. This is a beautifully designed little writer and I can see the attraction. In the right environment this looks like a winner, although the drawbacks of water soluble ink, no clip and fiddle-factor need to be kept in mind. Great review.
You should consider refilling the cartridge using a syringe. Opens up a world of ink selection. I'd recommend Noodler Bernanke because its fast drying and doesn't smear.
Great Review and I second all the great things you mentioned. Great Pen. For the security conscious, keep in mind that most fountain pen inks (particularly those available in standard cartridges) are water soluble so less ideal for writing checks etc. A lot of thermal receipt paper won't take fountain pen ink very well or at all so keep that in mind as well. As these are about the size of a Fisher bullet space pen and clips for those are readily available in a number of finishes, you can add a clip easily if desired. This really is a fantastic pen that (air) travels well, doesn't dry out, and is a pleasure to write with, so terrific for EDC.
I just got a Brass EF Liliput for application reasons. Having started using a Midori Passport Traveler's Notebook, I needed something with an EF nib that was small enough to carry in the notebook. Cartridges seemed to be the way to go in order to insure that I had a backup ink supply when I'm out in the middle of nowhere. The Kaweco Liliput seemed to be the answer. Guess I got a deal for myself finding one for $73.
Thanks for this Vid., I had never heard of this , but I'm really wanting one now. ... hey Nick , I got a Kaweco Supra. It's a little wider, got a bigger nib, and it has a middle extension piece that makes it open to any cartridge, or converter. When you take off the extension , it's the same size as the liliput , only fatter .
Thank you Nick. I do have a Lilliput and I have a squeezy converter that fits it, but It just doesn't hold a great deal of ink. I use mine mostly for puzzles and jotted notes and lists so it is not a problem.
Thanks for the review. I have a bit of a fountain pen addiction. I have a Kaweco Sport, a larger plastic but very durable pocket fountain pen. I may have to put this one on the to buy list after a Karas Kustoms Ink that I think will be a perfect EDC pen
I have the smooth brass, the aluminum and the wavy brass one. I want the copper version. One is in my pocket every single day. Love them. Thanks for highlighting them!
So happy to see that you did a review on these. I love mine. I have the plain black one and the more "EDC style" stainless FireBlue version that looks and feels amazing in the hand. And you're right its quite the conversation starter when ever I whip it out. And it always entertaining to see the look on the persons face if they ask how much they cost. Despite its reasonable price to us in the EDC world and Fountain pen people world to the general public 100+ dollars for a pen seems inconceivable.
I love this tip so much, I'd upvote it multiple times if I could. I had a Fisher Space Pen around, but the thought to actually even try its cap on my Liliput never even occurred to me. Now I just put the space pen cap on my black aluminium Liliput, and it's great, acts as a much needed rollstop. Be careful though, it's a really tight fit so I had to use some force, and managed to chip the black coating of the pen. That totally does not bother me, but worth pointing it out to take care if you attempt to try it.
1) Kaweco sells clips, though they just slide on, which can be an issue. 2) fountain pens work with capillary action, so writing upside down isn't an issue 3) Semantics, but a converter is a cartridge, but a cartridge is not necessarily a converter. The things you are showing are cartridges. There is no converter available for this pen :-)
+Nick Shabazz Do you think the Fisher bullet add-on clip would fit on this? If so, I would be more apt to buying it. My main concern with the Lili is the rolling aspect, rather than needing to clip it on. If worse comes to worse, I could stick something tiny on it--just enough to stop the roll. But this pen seems really great overall.
I carried the kaweco liliput and there was a few ink splatters. thought the cap kept it from going everywhere in my pocket, i don't really want to waste ink like that. The grip of the pen also got corroded or something, but the grip has black dents on it and things grow out of it every few weeks when i don't take off the cap. otherwise this is a great pen.
Jazzandmetal as of today 58 for the "silver" on Amazon. I'd recommend looking into gouletpens.com (I've made about 5 orders from them by now and they are outstanding, and watching Brian's Goulet Q&As if you're just getting into fountain pens before you buy your first. Just be mindful this is a cartridge only pen and while cartridges can be refilled they don't last forever. If you have any other questions feel free to ask them.
Paul X thanks for the heads up on the UA-cam channel and store. They didn’t have the regular SS version, and Amazon has the silver aluminum for $50 but not the SS. I found one at Jetpens.com though.
MaZEEZaM WOW! that's really a bummer. I hope you can find a better resource or a good substitute. I do apologize if I got your hopes up also, I often forget about other countries then mine (USA) reading my comments. It is human nature I guess to not think too far outside of one's own experiences. Good luck I also recommend TWSBI (pen company's name) they are magnificent value in my experience. I don't know how it works for shipping to Australia but I also really recommend gouletpens.com if the shipping doesn't kill it for you. They are absolutely amazing, if nothing else Brian Goulet's UA-cam videos are really great in my opinion. Be good MaZEEZaM ;!)
Nick, since you love the Lilliput so dearly, I reckon you must love the Kaweco Supra Steel or Brass pens just as much. They are essentially slightly bigger, thicker, heavier Lilliputs with a #6 steel nib, to boot. I’m besotted with Kaweco pens as EDCs. I have many Kawecos, and not single one of them has ever given me any trouble or grief. The Lilliput is so very fairly priced too, given its many advantages.
I’m new to fountain pens and bought one, should the nib have a little flex to it? I got the EF version. Mine also requires some scratching on the paper when it’s open for like 10 seconds. Starts fine when first uncapped. Thanks. Love your reviews. About to get a Prometheus writes thanks to you. 🙂
It would be cool if you did an overview of your pen collection, much like the knife collection overviews. I'd be interested in hearing the comparison between this and the prometheus alpha
I want this. Badly. A kaweco sport might solve a lot of your utility issues. The cap screws on over the nip but just caps with a pressure fit, and the octagonal cap does not roll. Some sacrifice in the looks department though.
it's definitely a nice pen but I prefer the sport models from Kaweco because of the angles and the slightly wider section. I'd actually like to check out the Supra pen they make.
Hey Nick, I'm a graduate student thinking of getting a good fountain pen. I love the design of the Liliput, as I want a pen that will be tough enough that if I drop it on my way to class I have nothing to worry about (not a diva ;) ) but some reviews I have seen are saying that it isn't exactly great at long writing sessions. What do you think? Would I be able to use this for light to moderate note-taking over a 3 hour class? I should also note that i do not currently have a fountain pen.
I'm very happy with this as my only pen, once I got it adjusted. Beautiful thing. The only real complaint is that it takes cartridges only, but they're cheap.
It's love at first sight. I love steel finish pens. But I would like to know a few things since you own that. Are both the copper and steel liliputs prone to scratches? And is it possible to store an extra cartridge inside the barrel?
Nice looking pen. I wonder why they didn't include a pocket clip, even a removable one to keep it from rolling. BTW on eBay they have a brass version of this pen that's ribbed ;-)
The kaweco squeeze converters fit these pens but you're better off just filling an ink cart with a syringe. Saddly these pens are mostly just for cartrages
Yeah, the Pilot VP (or Decimo) is nice for people who write a lot. You can get the pen open and shut very quickly and don't have to worry about the cap, which is nice in a classroom environment. The only downside is that the capacity is relatively low. I think it's only .5ml or so. I don' t know how much you write but that may not last you but a week or so. Alternatively, a Lamy 2000 or a Pilot Custom Heritage 92 are piston fillers and they hold a lot more ink and are easier to work with. Both are worth the money, have gold nibs and offer a great writing experience at around $100. If you want something cheaper, look at the Lamy and TWSBI pens under $50.
standard paper is fine. cart life it hard to compare but they can seem to go quick if you are doing alot of writing. Id guess maybe 5-10 standard pages per.. depending on writing style of course.
Hey Nick, I know this is an old review. Had a question on this if possible. Is this considered the "Fireblue" finish or just a patina'd copper or brass? Thanks!
Hey Nick, you getting into fountain pens now? I thought you swore them off because they're too fiddly (like your Sinn 104) and not as practical and maintenance free as the rollerballs and ballpoints you usually carry. So, are you coming around to the fountain pen club?
I agree, it's a beautiful material for the Liliput. Not quite silver, but storm grey. And combined with the copper clip, it will be even more beautiful I think.

I have an aluminum one and definitely find it light.. Ive often been tempted to get a brass or steel one but its hard to justify a second one. If i were to do it over again, i'de get a heavier one.
@@jseden I've read somewhere on the Internet that say the Kaweco liliput aluminum version can be corroded in prolonged contact with Ink, even if the ink is Kaweco's own ink. the name of this pen is a pun. The liliputians were a race of fully formed people who were around 6 inches tall, from the book "Gulliver's Travels"
I own this pen and did not know that! was one of my fav movies as a kid too, thank you!

I would order one right now but 100 for a pen ???

The Pilot Vanishing Point (review soon!) is a great choice, as is this guy. Maybe the Lamy 2000.
