I feel like the universe is telling me that its now or never, this video came at a great time. Im picking up a second job so I can afford the gear I need to make quality videos and in the mean time i'm learning all that I can. So glad I subscribed thank you Katie!
Starting your UA-cam Channel is always a great idea!!! The consistency you need to put into it can help you in so many ways as a creator. Loving the video
I agree on reusing reels and tiktoks! I just did that and it was interesting to see what worked. Half of them spiked around 1000 - 1500 views but completely flatlined after that. Hardly any views trickling in after that. It does give me a boost in new followers so it was a useful experiment. With the click through rate I see a different trend. It often starts a bit lower and creeps up over time. I think with a smaller audience and less videos it seems YT needs some time to figure out the right audience. And with lower views it takes a couple of weeks to get enough data to give good insights.
It's interesting to see which videos take off on TikTok and which videos take off on Shorts. This is why I always post on both. It's not one or the other. It's both.
I just started a UA-cam channel and I'm trying to just have fun with it. I feel like its a lot of work, but sometimes just being patient and positive with your videos and just being yourself is gonna get new people interested In checking out your channel. I wanted to thank you for the awesome video and good tips for starting a UA-cam Channel.
I appreciate you deeply, Katie. I’m homeless, tent living as of recently, and one of those reasons is to create my channel. And I’m certainly gaining some views and subs already. there’s certainly a lot of experimenting like you said. Crazy. But I love it. It’s like “refining” me.
Biggest takeaway how to use Click Through Rate and View Duration to make decisions about my next video. Thank you, Katie! Following my dreams starts here!
Thanks for sharing! What would be your 2023 strategy for the vlog channel you have? Similarly to yours, mine gets very little to no recommended views. Understandibly, it's much harder to grow a general lifestyle/vlog channel compared to the how-to-youtube channels. What's your 2023 plan there if you don't mind sharing? Thanks
I appreciate you saying we’re not too late, I often feel I am. But I always forget about shorts and I have tons of stuff from tiktok and reels. Can we schedule shorts? Any times you recommend? I also think this will be a great introduction to UA-cam for me and also I didn’t know you could monetize shorts 😮
Ok! I’m just getting started and excited about the journey! I did post full length videos before I saw this video. So, I need to work on Shorts. Thanks for the tips!
You are absolutely amazing, Katie!! I just started to know you and your channel, and I find it completely amazing and inspiring how far you´ve come over the years! Congratulations and thank you so much for being a great motivation for starter youtubers like me! 🤗
Such a helpful video, storyblocks sounds really great! I just posted my first video a few days ago and it's been doing so much better than I expected, hope I can keep it up!
Love this! I’ve been wanting to start my channel for a few years now but never did because I was too shy. I decided to start this year. So excited to start this new journey❤ thank you for sharing your tips
Great video! I plan on starting my youtube channel this year and have also started off by posting shorts. I've found that my videos often flatline at 1K-1.5K views but I've started gaining subscribers which is great.
This is so helpful! What I struggle with is music - I’m so scared to do something wrong, I think this is what holds me back the most from doing my first post. Does anyone have any tips when it comes to background music?
Yeah but the content that does well for Shorts vs TikTok for example is soooo different 😭 I had the same TikTok video hit 1,7M views and on Shorts it was only watched 500 times (no, not 500k, only five zero zero 😪)
Hi, Katie! How would you recommend growing a UA-cam channel this year with no niche? "Emma Chamberlain-esque" if you will. Would love to watch a video by you explaining how she "cracked the code" to being nicheless but becoming one of the most successful UA-camrs-turned-celebrity! I know a lot of it has to do with her personality and authenticity, something myself I am trying to work on! I have also thought about beginning with a niche but branching out. Thoughts there? I just find I get burnt out quicker when in a box. All I really want to do is make videos and help others feel less alone.
Maybe make THAT your niche? I don’t know exactly what you have in mind but it sounds like “having fun with videos and making people feel less alone” could be an umbrella you fit your videos under. You might need to more explicitly verbalize that intent to the audience than more obvious niches - but who says it’s not worth a shot or won’t work?
Thank you so much for your how to videos. I'm wanting to get started creating content on UA-cam, and your videos are so helpful/ inspiring. Very excited to start this adventure!
You channel is the most valuable one for folks who are starting out on youtube. Thank you for your work!!! I subscribed and looking forward to learning more from you ✨
Thanks for this video Katie! Quick question - so are you saying that if I repost a TikTok with baked-in music on UA-cam shorts but I don't officially add the same song directly from UA-cam, then in the future when I get monetized, I would NOT get paid for that video just because it has music that was originally added on TikTok? I have been uploading TikToks with music & they have passed the copyright clearance on UA-cam - so I thought that was enough - but maybe not
My shorts sometimes pick up month after posting! One short I posted a year ago, was sitting at a couple hundred views and grew the past months to 10k and now 27k views 🙌🏽
You help alot with my channel is growing little by little, I was starting to learn guitar and on a youtube video you upload and said to upload learning guitar and etc. I start to do that and its working and also my ability to play it its helping. Also Iam trying to use shorts
This video made me want to start editing again. Forgot how fun it is to piece footage together and make a story out of it. Gotta get back to it. Thanks for the advice! 🙏
Fab advice as always! Question: I started this channel years ago and we only really posted training update videos for our board and train client dogs, but we decided we wanna post more educational content now. We're still gonna post training vids when we have board and train pups, but we're adding the weekly educational content now as well. Am I shooting myself in the foot by staying with this channel or would it be better to start a new one?
I hknestly love you so much. U wxplaine things so well and ur entertaining to watch. I finish ur videos without falling asleep. And this was helpful. Tbh me being in yt for almost 9 years and still feel like i dnt have consistent good engagement ur vids gives me hopes
I love this! I was considering making a new channel, and I have been a bit overwhelmed with the idea of adding one in. I can totally see experimentation with Shorts to help make the decision.
I'm so glad I found this video! I haven't started a UA-cam channel but I have all this short form content from Instagram Reels that I was thinking I could repurpose as YT Shorts.....and you just gave me a shiny permission slip to do just that! Thank you for all your wonderful content!
I’ve heard from multiple people that posting shorts killed their channel and that you should create new Somerset one for shorts . Any thoughts on that?
Thanks for the video! I feel like I grew ok-ish the last month and now I've hit a plateau again😢. Thanks for the encouragement though, I hope I grow again soon❤
Whenever I post a skincare video it does really well, but otherwise my videos are not performing. I don't want to be strictly a skincare channel, do you have any recommendations? Much appreciated!
Katie, Thank you for being so real. I appreciate this and every video put out! Love analytics! 💗 What advice do you give to someone who has recently change niches? Thanks so much for taking the time to make these videos and give encouragement. 💕
These are great tips for some of us just starting out. You did an amazing job breaking all the steps out for us. I under estimated the amount of effort and time it takes to create all the graphics and script. Thank you.
these are great tips, especially the part about recreating your top performers. I’ve been following your tips for a few months and its really been helping me grow. Thank you for what you do ❤
@@lisabaileys for instance one video i posted on UA-cam Shorts got 9 views, on FB Reels it got 71 views and on TikTok it got 842 views! Another got 3 views on TikTok, 149 views on FB Reels and 1226 on UA-cam! I can't figure it out lol
@Life with Margot dang gurl, I don't have the patience for Tiktok right now (keeping it to two platforms), but great work. For my account @magnoliainvestor , one video has 1340 views on reels, but 25 views on shorts. Another video has 130 views on reels, but 2800 views on shorts. Aka I also definitely don't understand what works. I seriously think it's all magic.
Question! If I'm not monetized, is there a way for me to turn off ads in the middle of my videos and just have them at the beginning/end? I have a yoga channel and a viewer just informed me that ads are playing throughout the video, but I don't see an option to change that.
I've been doing youtube for the past year and a half and I just feel like I'm slipping down that mountain. I do travel videos (like you do on your other channel) and I just feel like I'm missing something. Like why is it so hard for me to get any traction, and I see people blow up in one video. Just venting sorry hahahahahahhqhqh.
You mentioned people starting by posting their tik tok or insta posts onto UA-cam.. is it really hard to grow on UA-cam as a newbie who isn’t already on other platforms?
Just recently found your channel. I'm not tech savvy and have never recorded or uploaded podcasts, but am seriously considering it. However since I'm not sure if I'm going to like it or be any good at it, I don't necessarily want to be spending a lot of money. I also don't want to short change anybody (potential audience) in the process. Do you think using an iPad Pro and an iMac (both 512MB) with Airpods Pro would suffice until I'm more certain I'm in it for the long-term? Thank you very much in advance.
You do a great job of integrating your sponsored section into the video without an abrupt shift in you video. Much appreciated!

Same! Let’s go! 💪🏼💪🏼
Did you start? If no then do it now! I just started getting engagement on TikTok again so I’m making my first video and posting this week! Good luck
Shorts have really been a game changer for growth on here, especially as a new channel!
Another YT coach said shorts are low views and we shouldn’t focus on that. But I really love shorts and are easy to do!

Do you do UA-cam channel reviews? Like to explain analytics to small/new UA-camrs
For those of us starting out and launching with UA-cam shorts, do you recommend using our phone for that or getting a good camera?
Thank you Katie 🌹🌹
Love your videos! Off topic q - where did you get those earrings?
With shorts I've thought about the idea of making smaller videos out of the main bigger videos on the channel. I assume this would work?
Hi @katie how did you record this video showing you laptop screen but you where talking to another camera???
it's great for the explanation, and this is very informative thank you so much.
This was so helpful! Thank you 💛 I just posted my first short 😬 let’s do this!
So many great tips. Thanks!
I've found that content that performs well on reels doesn't perform well on shorts & vice versa. So maybe my initial reach niches were different?
I’ve found the same thing videos perform different on different platforms but I am going to take one of my best performing reels and try it on sgorts
