yes, it's why I listen to astral weeks and a few songs from it over and over again on the way to work, during street walks, it crosses from music over into wonder this stuff
I cried listening to the studio version while driving home last night in my truck to see my Daughter. She is one week old. She was born December 1st and is My first child and My Gfs first as well. I'm 31 years old. I didn't think I was able to have kids by this point. And i was Given the most beautiful sweet thing I have ever seen in my life. I was half way home and I don't know why but I just started tearing up as the song played. I missed my Isabella so bad all day yesterday while I worked out on the farms. I got home to see my little chunky monkey losing her little umbilical chord stub. A milestone
Sir thank you so much for this little peak into your life. It’s so bare and real, you put a little bit of beauty on my heart. Bless you and your new family, and know people out here love y’all
Peace, as an awkward free spirited teenager growing up on the southside of Chicago in the mid-80's living around the way, I used to listen to Van Morrison to calm my spirit. His music takes listeners to a place where the sun never sets, where talking is replaced by the sound of life which is captured in his music. I thank my Creator for allowing me to listen to Van the Man. His gift helped to ease my spirit. Peace & Blessings
+K.A Williams I too turn to Van Morrison in times of trouble, and his music helps to lift my soul. The way you describe that feeling is perfect. Peace to you, K.A :)
+K.A Williams Couldn't agree more. Blessings and Peace to you as well. Oh ya, I grew up on 25th and Pulaski in Chicago. My mom ran a breakfast/lunch place and we lived in the back. This was in the late 60's early 70's.
+K.A Williams Yes, Van takes me too away to a place you can't get to from here. I've been listening to his music since I ran across St. Dominic's Preview way back when. Probably listen to more of him than everybody else combined. Never grow weary of him.
@wgtow Disagree. The Astral Weeks album should be listened to in it's entirety. One of the best albums ever IMO. In my youth, you listened and appreciated every track, and radio of the day, played full albums. A different, better era of music.
My 23 year old grandson sent this to me this morning. Warmed my heart to know he loves Van's music as much as I all these many years later. Morrisons music will never become obsolete.
Gave me chills, and I've heard the song about a thousand times before. But this version, well, I just close my eyes and let Van the Man take me wherever he's going. It's always someplace sweet.
+Naomi Kenan Isn't it it just amazing how one can never get too much of this man's music. Some of his songs I have listened to literally hundreds of times, but almost every time remains like the first. I came to him via a record club purchase (dates me doesn't it), "St. Dominic's Preview," when I was about thirteen years old. Shortly thereafter I heard the Bang Sessions version of "Madame George" (off T.B. Sheets) and haven't been the same since. His expressionistic vocalizations still give me goose bumps.
+Cankuwicasa That's a hard one! "Sweet Thing" is in the top 5, but I've got to think about this one. Deserves a listen to my massive collection; that is not a hardship. But my favorite CD is the lesser know Veeden Fleece, which takes me to those misty, mossy, green hills of Ireland that seem to keep rolling right into heaven. That's some feat, considering I've never been there! (It's on my bucket list.) How about you? Oh, and I'll never forget the first time I heard TB Sheets... Van channels some of the greatest writers in that one, like Baudelaire. Okay, I'm getting into an area I don't know much about so I'll shut up. I love Van Morrison.
+Naomi Kenan My current favorite is "In the Back Room" (Bang Masters). As I grow older and more nuanced in my sensibilities my favorites tend to shift, though in all truthfulness picking s single favorite is a hopeless endeavor. Hard to beat "On Hyndford Street" or "Take Me Back" (both from "Hymns to the Silence") for melancholy emotiveness. Hyndford Street is especially representative of Van's poetic expressiveness. As concerns "Veeden Fleece," I'd have to say I most like "Bulbs." Interestingly, the album has garnered widely disparate reviews. Some say it was basically hippie muzak, while others have termed it "majestic." It's certainly not his most energetic effort, but it does demonstrate lyrical acumen. I also like "Linden Arden Stole the Highlights," though like Van, I haven't the foggiest what it's about.
It's strange, growing up in South Alabama had my first job as a lifegaurd, 16.. $400 paycheck every two weeks, Van's Greatest Hits (stole it out of my Mom's collection)... it never, never left my CD player for three months straight. It was fucking magical.. Working man in my prime, cleaning windows.... Suga' Babe
When I was 18 I listened to so much Van the Man that I didn’t know where he ended & I began. I’d walk through the house growling & admonishing everyone to “Listen to the Lion.” My family thought I had lost my mind. But I had found my tribe.

So beautiful that my eyes fill with tears of happiness and love. Van the Man has passion and love in this composition. Thank you for sharing. God bless Van Morrison. ❤️🙏🎶
I want to tell myself that the studio version of this song is better because of the instrumentation, but I just can't confidently say that that's the case. The tempo he plays this version at is just so much more beautiful to me. Usually when people play live they speed up. Some songs just sound better a lot slower and this one is one of them to me. This is just kind of a vamping, repetitive, soul searching type of song. It just hits different when you're allowed to reflect at a much slower pace where you can kinda process the feeling.
Does anyone else understand that feeling when you were very young and you felt a certain emotion that you can’t explain

And I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
And they'll get high
On a bluer ocean
Against tomorrow's sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite
And I don't know why'
And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain.
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again.
Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing
And I will raise my hand up
Into the night time sky
And count the stars
That's shining in your eye
Just to dig it all an' not to wonder
That's just fine
And I'll be satisfied
Not to read in between the lines
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever
Grow so old again.
Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes
And your saint-like smile
YES!!
Kate! Sweet Thing!

Excellent!
Really beautiful song and version! Thank-you for this gem.
Love this version
Greatest song of all time.
It was through music and dancing what mades me feel at peace with myself and at peace with the world as well. Nelson Madiba Mandela
