  • Every Sunday we'll drop another video as a part of a "day by day" series from the trip Joe Rotter @ Red's recently hosted in Patagonia. It's raw, real, and a fishing-focused documentary of a week at Cinco Rios and Estancia Del Zorro Lodges where we love fishing and host trips.
    This is a 7-day series and you'll see lakes, small rivers, big rivers, and spring creeks. Filmed daily and all in a single week of fishing.

    Stormy, rainy day in NorCal. What a great thing to watch by the fire!!!! Beautiful place, fabulous fish and really fine angling skills on display. I enjoyed this very much.

      Thanks for watching, really appreciate it. I've heard you are getting pounded with weather. Good for the mountains I hope.

      @@redsflyshop Yes. Here in NorCal we are equipped by the landscape for heavy weather. Good water year is good for the fisheries!

    After the cast and presentation is on the water. Notice the two different styles of retrieves, Chris keeps his rod tip down and uses a hand retrieve to give action to the bug with good line control. Joe has his rod tip high and presents action to the bug with rod wiggles and hand action creating lots of slack. Now look at who had the most hook-ups?
    Sorry to point this out Joe, I do enjoy your videos and knowledge...

      Good observation and well taken. If my rod is up I’m skittering beetles. The mouse stays low and I’ll strip set those.

      yep I was actually looking in comments to see if anyone else noticed the convulsions at the rod tip that did nothing except create slack ...thought maybe it was some sort of medical condition.

      It's awesome. You'll fish your brains out. Lodge is cozy, but they are all about serious fishing. Long days, good stuff down there with this crew.

    I remember when I broke a fish off about a year about when it wrapped my line around some weeds too.. happens to the best of us, Joe. Great content as always. 👍👍🙏

    Geat video !!!! :) it looks like you guys are having a lot fun hehe
    Question: will the 5 wt be too light for this fishery?
    How about the Double taper flylines? Can it be use ?
    Thanks a lot

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  4 місяці тому +1

      A 5 weight will work fine, it won't throw these big flies all that well however and definately not with a a Double Taper. You can do it sure absolutely... but it will be a lot more work to cast. A 6 weight with a WF line will make the casting of large flies much easier.

    Excellent video. Were you fishing 7 or 8 wgts.? Also, be sure to make a video of your asados. Have a great time!

      I fished a 9' 6 weight Sage R8 with the fighting-butt all week. It was the perfect utility rod, but wish I had used a line that was better for big bugs. I like the RIO Gold for dead accurate shots with small flies it's like a lazer beam, until you get big flies on there. I should have used a RIO Bank Robber redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-premier-bank-robber-fly-line

    Great video. Can you describe your rod, reel and line choices?

    • @redsflyshop
      @redsflyshop  5 місяців тому

      Yes and yes. 690-4 Sage R8 with a RIO Gold Premier Line. I would have preferred a RIO Bank Robber or something with a slightly heavier head for the mouse patterns and largest beetles. The rod however is an easy choice. The 6 weight with a fighting butt is perfect! The reel is an Abel Vaya 5/6 in the Native Brown Trout color. You can see links in the description to shop if you are feeling impulsive. 😊
