      That’s great! It’s always hard to know the best way to mix these, I try to make them loud enough so they’ll sound ok on a phone or laptop, but they are really geared to be listened to on good headphones at lower volume. I place mics to somewhat simulate the placement of our ears and pan hard left and right so one mic is left channel and the other is right. I haven’t mixed using monitors in a while so I appreciate the feedback.

    Amazing versions. Simply outstanding. I've been playing those songs for years, but man you make them sound good. And oh boy that 000-18... Literally my dream guitar. May I ask you what strings did you use? They sound super dark and seem to have a lot of tension even with the 6th tuned to C# and the shorter scale... Cheers!

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Ismael. Thank you. On all of my vintage six strings I use daddario phosphor bronze light. I don’t like the sound of new strings at all, I feel like they mask the tone of the guitar, so if I’m planning on using an instrument to record if the strings are fresh I try to give them at least a couple weeks of playtime before recording.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Connor. I always joke with my students that if you are hesitant to retune it’s a good time to go get another guitar. We’re coming up on the 2 year Patreon anniversary, of the 22 pieces I’ve posted so far 3 are in open D. Echoing Gilewitz, Turnpike Terror, and Little Martha. Two others are very close to open D, Red Pony in open D minor and She Moved through the Fair in DADGAD.

Haha that's something i've been considering recently, it seems like a good enough excuse to buy something new! I've recently just gotten into Kottke as well so would be great to learn one of his tunes in my current preferred tuning! Thanks for the great videos :D

    Beautiful, awesome, as always. The device behind the nut; to reduce fret buzz? Thank you.

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  3 роки тому

      Thank you Bob. It is just a capo that is stored behind the nut. Your thought is not entirely incorrect though. Some of my guitars have such an incredible amount of resonance that you can hear an undesirable vibration coming from the strings behind the nut, and this is the reason I leave the capo there when not using on this guitar, tones down any vibration coming from the headstock.

    What is your favorite 6 and 12 string

    • @andrewlardner
      @andrewlardner  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Ronnie. My favorite 6 string hands down is my 17” Euphonon, I feel like it sounds good doing anything. The 12s vary so much they all have different purposes. I love the Bozo’s across the board. I really like the 63 B45 Gibsons for that early 6&12 Leo sound or Gary Davis stuff. Some of the guilds are nice too. Would really like to have an early Oscar Schmidt or Holzapfel around for earlier blues work.
