The fastest way to get faster on drums:
►Drumeo.com/faster/
Growing up playing drums in the church, Rashid Williams wasn’t allowed to have a double pedal. So he had to learn how to play quickly using just one foot. Watch this short video to pick up some of Rashid’s tips to playing crazy fast on a single pedal!
His technique involves playing with his toes (or ‘heel up’) and a higher pedal tension so the pedal moves with him and achieves better rebound when he’s playing at higher speeds. Rashid describes the motion for a triple stroke as similar to what you’d do with a double stroke, but getting your foot to ‘throw’ the third hit by using the pedal’s rebound.
So play a double stroke, and instead of pushing the beater into the head at the end of the second hit (‘burying the beater’), let the beater bounce back naturally. Then hit it again.
Once you get the motion down, practice this foot technique with just a kick, snare, and hi-hat. You can try exercises like repeating triplets on your foot (RRR RRR or RRR RRR RRR RRRRRR) while keeping the snare going on the 2 and 4. Don’t forget your metronome!

"Practice doesn't make perfect but it does make improvement"
You are awesome man
Its always a good day when drumeo posts
I've seen this comment before.
Isnt anyone gonna mention how freaking good those drums sound?
Jeremy Musa Mapex buddy Mapex unbeatable , nd this is a design lab kit 🔥 🥁
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mapex drums are underrated. Great value drums
Let’s mention how full HE makes them sound. Thank you a lot, that is the freedom and experience I like in my playing. Practice and Technique are somehow always in play with each other.
Btw, I was so stunned when I found out it was a Single Kick. Keep up the great work❤️🫶✌️
They're Mapex they gotta sound good bro💀
By closing your eyes you'd swear it was a double bass pedal being used. Thanks for this exercise!
"No cheating in the church"...I loved that. I grew up playing drums in church as well, so this comment really hit home. Great playing as always.
I grew up in church music but came to the drumming party late…I was lucky enough to have a DW 5000 double pedal at my last church (!) but I rarely got to use both pedals because of the context of the music (mostly pop-like CCM stuff). Also, I wasn't really able to play grooves that didn't involve hi-hat because certain others in the band relied on it to stay in time and it would throw them off if I changed things. Every now and then I could sneak in some hard/alt rock/metal or hip-hop/funk playing, or throw in double pedal on a big cymbal ending. I agree with some of the other comments that the condition of the pedal makes a difference…that DW 5000 made fast single-foot playing a breeze! But a light touch on the foot always makes playing quick doubles easier.
Rashid is really exceptional at being able to explain his principles & specific technique in a way that others can understand & pick up on. Well done!
i don't hear, him telling me at all how the ankle/toe technique works , or whatever it is.
Seeing how that cymbal shakes at 3:57 is satisfying
TheGavPav that’s Zildjian sweet series for ya
Count how many times he accented the word "So'.
@@krioni86sa lol
Me: How do you play bass triplets?
Rashid: You just play them.
Me: Oh, okay.
haha yes maybe there isn't anything to it besides just working on it for years
yep ,no mention of the actual ankle technique at all
@@krusher74 drum technique is over rated. Hold the sticks however is comfortable and play rudiments until you get them fast and even. There's no "secret technique" besides sitting down for hours and grinding it out
holy hell. i would die to have this dude as my teacher. his sound is amazing.
Eloquent explanation and demonstration. Really learned a lot about foot technique. Thanks.
My God! That one foot break down mind blowing!
4:43 that Feeling when you miss the triplet :D great tutorial, Will defenitely be working on these.

Currently trying to learn Bonham's Good Times Bad Times a year into my drumming and have been binge watching your foot technique videos! Love them all! Keep up the great content!
I’ve been playing for about 5 years now and I still can’t figure that song out 😂
I'm still trying to learn that song too, but getting to that speed is taking a lot of time. Maybe one day.
Can you give me basic drumming foundation
This was such a great video! Thanks for the tips Rashid!
Perfect, and that snare sound 🔥🔥💣
Rashid is awesome!!! Hope i can nail it like him!! I always have my pedals loose going to try it with tension makes sense! Thanks for the tips!
triplets sound so badass, especially with however you micd it, sounds great
This Mapex kit is insane!!! Love it!!!
Love the kit man
Nice. Makes it look easy. Lots of hard work to get it to that point. Thank you.
That is some sweet footwork Rashid.
Thanks for the insight.
Perfect practice makes perfect. Keeping in mind that perfection is subjective. It's also a myth. Great video! 😊
Was waiting for thisss
Awesome explanation and chops! Great sounding kit as well 🎶🎵 !
Great little lesson...l like your style of teaching
Love the tone of that snare bro
That snare kills!!

Very nice technique! And that snare is KILL'N!!!
I don't watch drumeo often, but I still like watching it.
Great video!! Cheers from Mexico :D
mad respect for players who can get a double pedal sound with just 1 pedal
Sweet! New eyes on old technique. Thanks
Thank you for this video man!!!!!!! Awesome
That's awesome. I'm motivated. I `ll stick it!
I DIG this, especially since I'm using my toe a lot. Thanks!
nice man I can use that for my druming .thanks brother. ohhhh very very beautiful drum set
Super cool video!
Good lesson. I liked the focus on the muscle groups.
you're a great guy brotherman thank you god bless
Can't wait to buy a set!
Ahh... I loved the rim shots on this snare!!
sick kicks.. imma practice this..
Dat FLOW though!
Very nicely done! Not as easy to get triples on the foot up to speed as you’d think. Mine break down around 75bpm. Thanks for the exercises!
O groove pra praticar no final é muito interessante e muito didático ;)
Good job brother Thanks for the info
Very smooth
Thank you for the video I’m gonna go practice 😎
thanks you i like this lesson
That is really cool thanks!
Thank you rashid.
Thanks! Good explanation.
I love the sound of his snare.. oh lord
You ain't lying man! Killer
Thank goodness this video was made....I was trying to explain to someone how double footed techniques could be done by one foot....and they didn't understand how much harder it was to do so.
all you had to tell them is try doing a drum roll with one hand.
Heel toe works amazing with this as well. That's If you use Heel toe technique for your double strokes.
You have perfected a technique that I thought was impossible. I just immediately readjusted my pedal to single and tried it. After about twenty minutes of adjusting from double to single....I have to admit (no disrespect intended ), it works. Really. I've been drumming some 30+ years and I'd like to think I've got some skills and have made a pretty penny doing so but I ALWAYS want to be a student of music so good sir, I'm on board. Thank you for your insights!
Amazing thank you
Impréssionnant !
I’m gonna try this
Enjoy!
Oh and you’re awesome man!
Those Threes are crazy!!! haha :D Sounds great!
4:48 DAMN. Thats what i am going for. io used to play a double and that was my fav. just getting back to it but with a single. this weeks journey. ITS POSSIBLE with a single. thanks.
Rashid is Monster
It's very nice
Awsome! 👍😊
Rashid -cool guy
I know this was about the kick, but that snare sounds sick!
WOW Great!
Awesome
Those single-foot triplets are dope, but can we talk about Rashid's ghost notes for a minute? They're some sneaky little things!
Very cool
Post a tutorial for how you tuned your drums to sound like this please
Great 👍😊
My brain melted. And I'm just at the beginning of this video
Thanks man ..... incredibly I got it straight away in shorter bursts but I need more stamina to develop a groove. Not bad for a sixty year old tart like me.
John Bertasius sub to Thr3e musketeers
Amazing, and what if you were to use doble pedals? you could play basically just with your feet
Lots of insane drummers're at Drumeo
3:44 more than rock breakdowns, those are deathcore breakdowns 🤙😎
Fucking magic!!!! Teachers are amazing! Being able to impart the knowledge in a user friendly way, is so amazing to watch. Well done that man!
I play a lot like Rashid, but I've never knew how to explain it to people that well lol
This video made me think how awkward it would be to lose a big toe though
what stands out to me that i find interesting, is that theres no mention of " Slide" technique", where some teach the tap first near midpoint of pedal with ball of foot, and then slide up and stomp down with the whole foot. trying to learn it that way is rather awkward for me, and I find myself wanting to just play both notes with the ball of my foot near the top of pedal; almost like quick hopping motion, and thats what you appear to do here. does that make any sense?
ty.
Have you tried the dualist pedal?
Check out Yoyoka Soma's triplets!😎✌❤
When we learn that tecnique and play on both foots on a double footmachine, then lets goooo
Monster😱😱😱😱
Anyone can tell me how is doing the ghost notes on the snare? I can't understand...
Dudes who played in their church always grow up to be sick drummers.
Wow!
Show !!!
p.s. school band 1968 bass drum Narimasu
That’s Rad! What if u combine triplets on both feet with a double pedal for a quick 6stroke blast? I imagine doing that fast triplet on the left would be tough though! Definitely going to try this though, Thanks!!
it's only as tough as duplicating the technique from the right. which can be a lot. lol.
What’s the make of that pedal?
how do you hold heel up without straining leg muscles to hold the elevated position?
A good thing to start with is setting up you stool at a relatively high height, the higher you seat, the less effort you have to do to lift your leg=the easier you can play heel up. Also it’s better for your back, for your technique, and so on. Then it’s only a shitload of practice and experimentation to find that sweet spot that works for your body. I see a lot of drummers seating really low where in fact seating a bit higher can really change the deal. Also the higher you seat, the closer your drum kit is to you. If you’re interested in this I suggest you check out Jojo Mayer’s foot technique in his dvd « secret weapons for the modern drummer 2 », hope this was useful, stay safe man !
A real quality pedal also cuts the work in half, but there is no replacement for practice; only in time it becomes easier.
@@elyhwhyeti5343 true. Have quality pedal. Constant heel up strains muscles further up the leg that keep the heel up. (my legs are not young tho, nearing their 9th decade).
