Mario Lanza - LONDON PALLADIUM - November 1957. HD 1080p 60fps DES STEREO

  • This is the UK television production of 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium' hosted by Val Parnell.
    Mario sings
Because you're mine, E lucevan le stelle & The loveliest night of the year.
    Orchestra conducted by Constantine Callinicos.
I have uploaded this before in color but I feel this is better left in B&W as was originally intended. The audio has been improved as much as possible and remastered in DES STEREO. (IMO this sounds better than the commercial release a few years back in which Mario's voice sounds very thin and sharp with very little distinction between voice and orchestra) Finally, I have upscaled it to 1080p and 60 fps for smoother viewing. I hope you like it.

To quote Mario Lanza: "Every word I sing, I live it..right? In other words, every word is important, I sing each word, as if it were my last on Earth." He certainly gave his all at this performance...thank you for posting it.

I truly miss such Sunday Nights, when the Palladium featured great artists who performed without any gimmicks other than their pure talent.

I first heard Mario Lanza when I was 18.
I saw the great Caruso.. I knew my father was crazy about opera but we couldn't ever go or n. There was 5 tiny children one after another and I never even really thought about what it was and then my fiancee who was Italian said there's a movie. On and I think you're gonna like it.
Because i'd never heard and from the minute I started to hear his voice tears were running down my face.
I was so emotional about it and I winded sit on my fiance's lap and he said I knew you would love it and I'm 75. Now but when?
My grandson was 18 I turned on Celeste aid any say he started to say what. Is this and tears just started running down his face? He was the only other one in my family that had a soul from there's never been as far as I'm concerned another opera singer.
As good as powerful as him but I must say when were in other genres such as rock and roll.
Elvis Presley is right up there with Mario. not in opera but in Rock and roll. I can't be disloyal to either.

I was 3 months old when Mario died. My first introduction to Mario was whilst I was watching The Toast of New Orleans with my mother, who loves musicals. I must have been about 10 and I was completely blown away by him and his voice and have adored him ever since.

It's no use saying that the sound quality gives more than an indication of how magnificent his voice was when well recorded. I believe his performance was favourably reviewed, so presumably the sound was better when broadcast. But the vision is much improved, thank you - it's a magic piece of film.

Unfortunately you are very ignorant when it comes to Hollywood. Mario , take note, was everything it takes to be the most special loving ,kind gifted man and opera singer and so much more that he was. He was not deficient IN ANY WAY. Only those on the same level as he can appreciate the wonderful person he was.
Now I’m about to tell you an open secret only understood by a few. When someone has and is special there are those who seek to exploit them for their own selfish gain and destroy the gifted one in the process.
Secondly, another secret that has escaped your critical mind , Hollywood destroy s them early in their lives. They either die young as in Mario’s case or they become debauched just like the very agents who seek to control them.
Now that should set your thinking on a path you never knew existed!
I’ll give you a few clues;-
Mario, Elvis,Princess Diana, on and on.
      Goodbye. Frederick.
Please apologise immediately to me and all the other Mario Lanza fans for your hurtful comment.

@@user-px2mu1rd5b unfortunately you must have a very sad lonely life. The guy died many years ago, and its always same outcome with icons like jiim reeves, elvis Presley, buddy Holly , bruce Lee etc etc. throughout human history idols or heroes when they die young, always myth's become more important than those heroes faults. Even the comic hero superman had a weakness, thats whats so special about his heroic persona. Many tragic lives of people we never hear orr know, just live a life and why mourn the dead forever.
