    1:28 "Dampening" is making something slightly wet. "Damping" is shock absorption.

    • @Nomgoose
      @Nomgoose 6 років тому

      Can be either. An alternative meaning for dampening is "to make less strong or intense," which fits with reducing road vibration.

    • @geraldrossouw4425
      @geraldrossouw4425 6 років тому +2

      You can use "dampen" as a verb for both, but "dampening" is moistening. Same goes for the nouns, a damper is a shock absorber, while a dampener is a device used to wet something. Notice the continuity?

    Awesome looking machine John. Just can't quite believe how far bikes have changed. I have a Madone from 2009 - completely different animal.... makes mine look so retro....

    Beautiful bike one thing I was curious about how wide the downtube is? I though there was a limit on the size of the open tri-angular space! That would keep companies. from filling that area in completely? Hopefully that makes sense! Again great clean looking bike to go with the great clean looking (GCN) presenter as well!

    I feel like the disc brakes really fit better on aero frames then those integrated rim brakes

  • @Pratalax

    just love those long seatstays gently curving into the toptube. i look at it like a tensioned bow, ready to spring and launch you down the road. especially considering the new bmc, venge and system six look almost the same!

    Diffinitely a better bike to live with than the old madone, not sure if the comfort rail is needed. The proprietary rim brakes and fixed stem are nice to be gone. Would be interesting to see how the old and new stack up in a wind tunnel same setup and same rider as It has been shown in the past discs and the high spoked wheels create more drag.

    SPEC TACULAR, also really nice frontal area. Dig the huge logo and I also liked a lot the turning flaps in the head tube. Did not need to get rid of them.
    only downside - seatpost, should be one piece sticking out of the seattube.. and black!

    Trek bikes always look a couple of years ahead of everybody else. This Madone looks cool with the White on Red paint job, but the Purple on White looks even better. I would really like to see it with a Black on Black paint job, it would look like a stealth fighter.

    recently bought ultegra rotors, the price for 160 an 140mm was the same, so wy not... certanly at the front you just need to rotate the mounting plate, at the rear you need an adapter.
    i put one 160 at the back aswell. this means if i get one spare rotor i can fit it where ever i want.

  • @coldforgedcowboy
    @coldforgedcowboy 6 років тому +10

    GCN Tech..... yes absolutely you need a 160MM rotor on the front because eventually someone will cut you off and you will have to do a maximum braking effort or eat a truck!

    • @PrzemyslawSliwinski
      @PrzemyslawSliwinski 6 років тому +7

      I would really like GCN to compare the 140mm and 160mm rotors in various road conditions ridden by heavier and lighter riders.

    • @olivierzozo
      @olivierzozo 6 років тому +3

      in such an emergency event where you want to have maximum power braking, the front tyre will be the limiting factor. Remember there is no (yet ?) an ABS on bicycles to prevent front tyre sliding. Having a 160mm disc brake is not necessary I think, unless braking distances comparison can show a nice trend in favor of big diameter disc brake.

      Doubt it was quite that heavy, but ultra stiff aero bikes especially with disk brakes won't be the lightest bikes out there any ways. Depending one what wheels, pedals and other kit you put on them can drive up the weight too. Regardless of weight they are still some of the fastest all around bikes one can own.
