You can use "dampen" as a verb for both, but "dampening" is moistening. Same goes for the nouns, a damper is a shock absorber, while a dampener is a device used to wet something. Notice the continuity?
That is gorgeous, I have a 2017 9.2 and I love it. I have sent you loads of pictures which haven't made it to the show yet. That is my favourite bike bar none hot hot hot!!!
Awesome looking machine John. Just can't quite believe how far bikes have changed. I have a Madone from 2009 - completely different animal.... makes mine look so retro....
Beautiful bike one thing I was curious about how wide the downtube is? I though there was a limit on the size of the open tri-angular space! That would keep companies. from filling that area in completely? Hopefully that makes sense! Again great clean looking bike to go with the great clean looking (GCN) presenter as well!
just love those long seatstays gently curving into the toptube. i look at it like a tensioned bow, ready to spring and launch you down the road. especially considering the new bmc, venge and system six look almost the same!
Diffinitely a better bike to live with than the old madone, not sure if the comfort rail is needed. The proprietary rim brakes and fixed stem are nice to be gone. Would be interesting to see how the old and new stack up in a wind tunnel same setup and same rider as It has been shown in the past discs and the high spoked wheels create more drag.
SPEC TACULAR, also really nice frontal area. Dig the huge logo and I also liked a lot the turning flaps in the head tube. Did not need to get rid of them. only downside - seatpost, should be one piece sticking out of the seattube.. and black!
Trek bikes always look a couple of years ahead of everybody else. This Madone looks cool with the White on Red paint job, but the Purple on White looks even better. I would really like to see it with a Black on Black paint job, it would look like a stealth fighter.
It looks much better in disc brake version than with those silly wings and those really complicated Bontrager rim brakes! How does it perform in the wind tunnel compared to other aero bikes?
Beautiful machine. Small recommendation/request. Im sure most of your viewers are familiar w kg in weight but for us over in the USA can you please consider posting bike weights in lbs alongside the kg caption?
recently bought ultegra rotors, the price for 160 an 140mm was the same, so wy not... certanly at the front you just need to rotate the mounting plate, at the rear you need an adapter. i put one 160 at the back aswell. this means if i get one spare rotor i can fit it where ever i want.
GCN Tech..... yes absolutely you need a 160MM rotor on the front because eventually someone will cut you off and you will have to do a maximum braking effort or eat a truck!
in such an emergency event where you want to have maximum power braking, the front tyre will be the limiting factor. Remember there is no (yet ?) an ABS on bicycles to prevent front tyre sliding. Having a 160mm disc brake is not necessary I think, unless braking distances comparison can show a nice trend in favor of big diameter disc brake.
Hot bike, but could be super hot if it had one of those special paint jobs they made exclusive to this Madone. I'm quite partial to the white one with red accents.
It's surprising how heavy this bike is. My carbon frame Cube with hydraulic disc brakes and Shimano 105 groupset weights only 1.2 kg more (with Shimano M520 pedals). And it cost less than 1500 quids...
Just an amazing machine, I can only dream of having one, a lotto win would be just perfect timing, for a Christmas present, MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!! Sexiest damn road bike I have ever...
Finally the only channel who mention the di2 junction box haha I’m searching it the whole week haha btw this is dream bike and awesome presentation john
Ugh, even tho this is a superior frame with disc brakes, an adjustable bar, and adjustable iso speed, the old one was sexier with the smaller logo (still large for my taste) and the curvier top tube. Good thing performance trumps looks in races.
Wow! Fantastic. John, why do you think they designed the derailleur hanger thst way? It seems pretty unique but maybe a bit of a pain if you ever need to try and straighten it.
Is that weight with tubulars? Yikes, that weighs as much as a 9 series speed concept with a disc wheel. For a 54 with a dura ace cassette and small discs no less.
Those hubs likely use DT swiss internals, hence the DT style thru axle. Quite the machine. Hopefully John starts having results like he is used to on it soon.
Doubt it was quite that heavy, but ultra stiff aero bikes especially with disk brakes won't be the lightest bikes out there any ways. Depending one what wheels, pedals and other kit you put on them can drive up the weight too. Regardless of weight they are still some of the fastest all around bikes one can own.
What do you think of Degenkolb's Trek? 👇
Too red
Too Trek
quiero una igulita para mi !!!!
Sweet as a teat!
Must be white as TDF stage 1
GCN Tech more expensive than mine 😅
1:28 "Dampening" is making something slightly wet. "Damping" is shock absorption.
Can be either. An alternative meaning for dampening is "to make less strong or intense," which fits with reducing road vibration.

I feel like the disc brakes really fit better on aero frames then those integrated rim brakes
Definitely

Nice video ! What's up with the color of the video ?
7:11 Did the cranks just turn along with the wheel when he spun it?
need lubing eh?
ΛΞPHAX it probably actually means the bearings in the bb have super low friction. Look at videos from ceramic speed and you see it all the time.
Lmao he spun that mf sounded like a motor

It says 54 mm for the frameset size which is a bit small don't you think? ;)
Is it just me or is the contrast in this video off? Was it not colour graded?
arent 160mm standard so that NS will have the right size?
I’m 6’0, only 1 inch taller, I ride a 54 Madone but am told a lot that it’s too small for me. Any opinions?
Nice bike, what make is it?
Read the downtube?
Madone
It’s sarcasm
Oversite not putting the name on it!
beigemaster86 lol
I couldn’t quite see who makes the bike? Anyone know?
travis miller no idea
Specialized? 😆
Those through axle 'skewers' are a pure DT Swiss product! As are the internals of the bontrager hubs ;)
Probably my favourite bike in the peloton.
In white with 2x 3x mechanicals TFG stage 1 looked amazing
Who makes the bike?
Amazing bike! So clean, no cables in view like a BMC!! Supernice!!! Onestly on my BMC I sue a 160mm on the front..I like much power during braking..
SPEC TACULAR, also really nice frontal area. Dig the huge logo and I also liked a lot the turning flaps in the head tube. Did not need to get rid of them.
only downside - seatpost, should be one piece sticking out of the seattube.. and black!
God Damnit, I just bought a Project One 9.5 with traditional brakes!
Trek bikes always look a couple of years ahead of everybody else. This Madone looks cool with the White on Red paint job, but the Purple on White looks even better. I would really like to see it with a Black on Black paint job, it would look like a stealth fighter.
54mm frame for crickets
@ GCN: asking myself if the aeolus triple x wheels are TLR or tubular ones ?
Can anyone tell me what the brand is? The logo is way too small and I can’t read it
Stunning sound of free wheel. Feelsgood
54mm size frame, interesting.
Excactly. 182cm height, 54 frame and only 73 cm saddle height? Interesting
54mm frame size is not very common. As far as I know
Dad-on-holiday fashion level:
Defcon 1

What brand is it? It’s hard to see the logo.
That down tube is just a giant billboard.
Super impressive they got all that aero thickness in 7.8kg
How much would one have to spend on this steed ??
0:28 mistake already. 54CM verbal. 54MM displayed.... 54mm would be a pretty small bike for a guy 1.8M tall :)
I did. It know you can get spacers for pedals to widen the Q factor. I wonder if more women should be using this since hips are generally wider.
Awesome bike specially how the cables are not exposed and nicely concealed.
recently bought ultegra rotors, the price for 160 an 140mm was the same, so wy not... certanly at the front you just need to rotate the mounting plate, at the rear you need an adapter.

He can finally slam that stem with the new H1.5 geometry!
GCN Tech..... yes absolutely you need a 160MM rotor on the front because eventually someone will cut you off and you will have to do a maximum braking effort or eat a truck!
I would really like GCN to compare the 140mm and 160mm rotors in various road conditions ridden by heavier and lighter riders.
#gcndoesscience

So what your saying is he can’t take a neutral service spare, because they all use 160mm discs
If only they could have put a larger logo on that bike 😂
LOL...
And the wheels
🤢
Hot bike, but could be super hot if it had one of those special paint jobs they made exclusive to this Madone. I'm quite partial to the white one with red accents.
Was waiting for the reupload !
It's surprising how heavy this bike is.

Sexiest damn road bike I have ever...
I run 140 mm rotors on my hydraulic brakes and trust me, they are MORE than enough!
trek madone is just the best bike on earth.
Finally the only channel who mention the di2 junction box haha I’m searching it the whole week haha btw this is dream bike and awesome presentation john
I have 140 rotors on my Giant Defy. I have plenty of braking power
Bars are a bit tilted forward.
Gorgeous bike! I have the old shape but if I had £10k I wouldn't hesitate in buying the new one. 😉
54mm on the screen. Whoops
Are you a superhero? Because you haven't melted in this video. 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing bike!
"54 cm" > shows 54 mm on screen. That's got to be an extremely small bike!
Madone / Emonda / Domane = Anagrams for daemon.
If it had SRAM eTap it would be perfect! =)
I just got out of treks website and edited a project one madone with discs, I can say I would sell any part of my body for it.
It looks sexy af, but that branding really kills it for me.
Wait is this a Trek? I can't tell...
Ugh, even tho this is a superior frame with disc brakes, an adjustable bar, and adjustable iso speed, the old one was sexier with the smaller logo (still large for my taste) and the curvier top tube. Good thing performance trumps looks in races.
That is one bad ass bike! I have a 2015 madone but this one takes the cake. Simply gorgeous!!!!!!
I want one.
Even though it's disposable and American and has proprietary BB and loud branding -- the exact opposite of what I need.
Thing of beauty but a little lumpy at over 7.8kg for a 54 frame
Giant better take notes on how to make a functional and good looking stem/steerer tube combo, the brick I mean Propel on the other hand.....
That Madone looks so gorgeous and super nice...
I love it!
Wow! Fantastic. John, why do you think they designed the derailleur hanger thst way? It seems pretty unique but maybe a bit of a pain if you ever need to try and straighten it.
omg i love the star trek bike. i didn know they male also bikes. wow
This is his backup bike, not his main race bike.
nty 7.86kg ~$12k expensive and heavy. Prefer Canyon SRAM etap 7.1kg ~$6k stealth logo
Any opinions on if a 140mm rotor in front is too small for the descents in the Alpes etc.?
Colours are quite washed out in this video... What gives?
Love it!
Next time you say the size for the bike is in cm not in mm
Is that weight with tubulars? Yikes, that weighs as much as a 9 series speed concept with a disc wheel. For a 54 with a dura ace cassette and small discs no less.
A "session" bike. Looks like TREK had sum late nite's !!!!
Nice Video GCN, but did you forget the color grading while video editing???
Excellent bike
glad its not using drop seat stays
beautiful
The Katusha Canyons for function, the Scotts for looks, the Trek for speed (but I don't like the discs).
I guess Degenkolb is a fan of Toots... 54-46 is his number (that's is his number now)
Sorry, not sure who the manufacturer is? Doesn't say it anywhere. 😃😎
Great, but the branding kills it for me. The road version has the same. Disappointing and unnecessary. A bit heavy too for a 54.
Those hubs likely use DT swiss internals, hence the DT style thru axle. Quite the machine. Hopefully John starts having results like he is used to on it soon.
Sounds a lot like DT internals IMO.
Didn’t show the hidden motor 🔥😂
@gcn Tech: Is this a 'Super Nice'?
More a fan of trek moutainbikes, but this one is one of the most beautiful roadbikes i have seen this year!
It's a gorgeous bike, I just wish it wasn't so heavy 😩 My LBS got one yesterday, a size 54 with Ultegra, 18 1/2 pounds!!
Did your friend put lead weights on the bike it should weigh 7.8kg i weighed this same model in a size 56cm frame in a bike shop.
What the hell does pounds mean? Are you from Mars?
Jochem No. But we did land on the moon... ;)
Always Hedged 🇺🇸
Surprised TREK didn't make him ride a 60cm so they could make the logo bigger
Says "shall we" about 50 times 😂
ben Wolf It's better, than "however" all the time.
You say 54 cm and then flash some titling that reads 54 mm...
I want one !!!
Cracking run down of a seriously delicious bike.
I guess is HOT he won yesterday at the Roubaix....
Hub sounds like DT Swiss ratchet system
Plant Powered Pedaller the xxx6’s have dt Swiss 240 internals, you have a good ear 👍
Super hot bike.
