Tomorrow is a long time -
words and music Bob Dylan
If today was not an endless highway,
If tonight was not a crooked trail,
If tomorrow wasn't such a long time,
Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all.
Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin',
and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin',
Only if she was lyin' by me,
Then I'd lie in my bed once again.
I can't see my reflection in the waters,
I can't speak the sounds that show no pain,
I can't hear the echo of my footsteps,
Or can't remember the sound of my own name.
Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin',
Yes, and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin',
Only if she was lyin' by me,
Then I'd lie in my bed once again.
There's beauty in the silver, singin' river,
There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky,
But none of these and nothing else
can touch the beauty
That I remember in my true love's eyes.
Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin',
Yes, and if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin',
Only if she was lyin' by me,
Then I'd lie in my bed once again
Beautiful
It's 2024, decades ago, the boy from Hibbing Minnesota, looked destiny in the face and saw it looking back at him. Dylan is not only one of a kind he's one of the last true Mages that remain. He created Bob Dylan and then became him. The man, the myth, the Legend. Still "holding up his end" of the bargain. I saw him in Chicago in October 2023. Somehow, this rare and peerless sorcerer is only getting better. For all he has given what treasures remain private? He writes the greatest songs of all time, songs that stand TOE to TOE with Shakespeare's best, paints beautifully, writes prose and novels as well as any great author, welds unique gates and tours the world relentlessly. He has given mankind more in a lifetime than virtually any I can think of, and, he is, still, going.
He's far more a Titan than a man. His work, alone, balances the equation of all the wicked deeds humanity has unleashed upon this earth. The divine chose him as a vessel and he has remained a loyally dedicated lightning rod for the muses.
Nothing more beautiful than this song performed here. It cannot be beaten! Legend.
This is one of Dylan's most heart-rending songs but you needed to be around at the time to fully appreciate it's worth. He wrote it the night after his then girlfriend Suze Rotolo left to go back to Italy. He didn't know for how long as she didn't say ........ but deep in his heart he knew it was forever. Now - listen to the song again. x
rips your heart out and stamps all over it. great performance of a sublime song from THE Poet
This song is remarkably beautiful and it’s also very rare. It’s difficult to think of anything comparable. Few love songs get anywhere near conveying this sense of intimacy. At the moment I can’t think of one other. He delivers it with such conviction and ❤️ with his heart.
Words cannot describe when I hear this song of Dylan. The lyrics are heartbreaking and his life rendition of this song is one of his best ever on stage. Note also the wonderful guitarplay by Mike Campbell, in my view one of the best gitarists in the world.
Words can't explain..the beauty of this rendition
I was born in 86 and I’m so thankful to have been alive during this beautiful moment.
Love this song, and love this performance of this song.
This performance is as smooth as glass. So perfect.
These two always complimented each other so well...Some of the best shows I ever saw were with Bob & Tom & HBs
In this day of July 4th, this is a perfect celebration of what America has given to the world. Long live Bob
The song that keeps on giving - yes 🙌
this is the best version. thank you so so so so much for posting it.
I love hearing Bob sing this
Wonderful song, wonderful words. Surely only a guy who has read Keats, Byron and Wordsworth - and Bob Dylan has - could come up with such a beautiful song
And Robert Burns.
man o man
Every tomorrow I'll pray for you in despite of that is along time
It just don't get any better.
I love 💘this song Bob!
Amo muchas canciones de Bob pero está es hermosisima
Beautiful song!
just shows you that even by 1987 when he put his mind to it Bob still could still deliver a song vocally
except (I believe) it was written in the sixties!
Jay Dee
I was meaning the vocal performance was great for 1987 the song itself was written in 1962/63
My apologies. I must have read your comment too quickly and missed "vocally" at the end of the line!
I agree, I think up until 1988 he had this ability. From 1989 on he lost a lot of his range.
The Walking Dead brought me here :) I love Bob Dylan, but I wasn't aware of this song til then.
I love you Bob!
very beautiful! his songs will live on.
Lovely Dylan
Just gorgeous. Thx. 💕💕💕💕💕
Speechless !
One of my favorite Dylan songs for years Ive tried to find something to top the vrrsion on GH Vol.II.I gave up thing how do you top perfection but Bob does it once again.I love you Bob.
Beautiful....would love to see the pictures that pass through Bob's mind as he sings this.
I happened to be looking to see if Rod Stewart had ever recorded this song live - his album version his version is beautiful - when I happened to see this. It floored me. I'm 54 years old, and I listened to Bob so much since I was 14 that I overdosed a bit. This version of what I've always believed to be one his top 3 or 4 love sings reminded me that he is a genius. I think he was 22 when he recorded the originally, also live version. Thank you for posting this. This song
this is the most beautiful version I've ever heard!
+PoBoy65 Thank you my friend. I was there. it gives me goosebumps every time.
a song to save you from drowning.......
The GD version is a little less emotional but I think it does the most justice to this song. This version is pretty nice too
i agree
Be still my heart ....
Great !!!,
incredible sensitive song
Es tan maravillosa .....
Great
Fine version .♡♡♡
Must be one off the best one :)
Thank you for this petite gem.
This is a great version of a great song!
LOVE this version!
Such a good version!
Bellissima... c'ero anche io, fu la perla di quella sera. Complimenti per il video e l'ottimo audio, difficile all'epoca realizzare. Ricordo che i controlli erano serrati e le telecamere erano enormi :-)
the master
Tomorrow is today with the best bob dylan
Nobody does Dylan like Dylan
The only one who comes close is Rod Stewart. Check out the track, Only a Hobo, on the Gasoline alley album.
I like Arlo's Gates of Eden on his Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys album. Arlo Guthrie.
thanks for posting this. saw him play it on the tour at Birmingham. It was awesome! Brought back great memories!
I saw him do htis in Birmingham too - fab
Impresionante versión
💕💕💕💕💕
Me too, what a great version!
Great song. Dylan's singing is often like a poetry reading. Judy Collins' version is quite beautiful. It's on youtube, too.
nobelprize wow!!!!!
i am still waiting, Bob
Non ho mai amato i concerti al palaeur, io c'ero e qualche mese prima era stato bello salire a Modena. Grazie a chi ha postato questa bellissima versione, torno 25 anni indietro in un istante
Pietro Vecchiarelli .... Pietrooooo!!!!! Bello esserci... insieme anche a Modena.
fantastic!
Harold, great post. I have 3 years on you; I too love the Rod Stewart version, and the live Bob version on the Greatest Hits Vol 2 collection. This one is the best of all. Compared to his live version (of 1963 ish? I'm guessing here), It's like you can feel every moment he's lived since. I'm heading over to Dave Johnson's post of a live Visions of Johanna, a song which over the past 5 years has gradually moved near the top of my favorite Bob-songs list.
he is THE frend yo Will miss
Dylan totally forgot the last verse . I sang this to my estranged wife in another , in between broken hear ted ride along and I didn't miss the last verse when I sang it to her . Ive never ed played and instrument in my life but Ive lived this song , so I really know it
Lova Man
so agree!
"But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty
That I remember in my true love's eyes."
Simple, beautiful but, most of all, true. This verse is sufficient to call Bob Dylan a genius.
caught that tour , NEC Birmingham !
You can see Geraldo Azevedo O amanhã distante. it's a portuguese version, so beautiful...
waiting
still waiting
Such a moving version! However, four days later, Dylan played in Paris with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and my mates who attended this gig all agreed on this point: Petty was great and Dylan gave an abysmal performance.
I was on this show. Not the best of Bob's periods. But this was a showstopper that raised the hairs in your neck!
Did a cover of this song on my channel. Not fishing for views but I love this song
whowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
would have to be the most beautiful song he ever wrote.i am use to a faster tempo of this song tho
It just doesn’t!!!!!!!!!!’Get any better
