Dutch families read evacuation letter

- What if you had to ask Dutch children to immediately leave their homes behind because it is unsafe? That's what the awareness video "Dutch families read evacuation message #palestine" is about.
Palestinians in Gaza receive a warning letter from the Israeli army before their homes are bombed. This is seen by Israel and allies as a humane way to wage war. But filmmakers Abdelkarim El-Fassi and Karim Mrabti see it differently: "It is not a humane way of evacuation, but a death threat: leave the house or we will consider you terrorists and bomb you flat. There is nothing humane about that. It also amounts to forced displacement which is a violation of international humanitarian law. That evacuation letter is what prompted this video."
Currently, more than 1.1 million Palestinians in Gaza were forced to flee to southern Gaza where, incidentally, they have no way to go either. There are thousands of houses wiped off the map and already thousands of dead civilians, many of them children.
The filmmakers of production company Zouka are disturbed by the unbalanced news coverage surrounding Palestinians in Gaza. "As film makers, we have the talent to translate and visualize complicated topics into something that everyone understands, feels and touches. We have a responsibility to bring people to new insights". We see that mostly Israeli victims have a face, while Palestinian victims - exactly as Ramsey Nasr beautifully put it - are described mostly with numbers.
Many Dutch people feel disconnected to the conflict. With this video we give a glimpse of what such a conversation could look like. You wouldn't wish that to anyone. No parent should have to face this dilemma with their children. Abdelkarim hopes that the video will move people in the Netherlands to learn more about the suffering of the Palestinians. Because children and innocent civilians should never be victims of this type of disproportionate violence. Not in the Netherlands. Not in Palestine.
Disclaimer: This video was produced in an educationally responsible manner. All children were ultimately aware that it was a fictional situation. Both the parents and the children were well informed in advance about our methods and gave permission for the filming and distribution.
