Thank you so much for watching!!!!!
I watch this 4 times & will probably watch again! Thank You 😊
That’s great. I am glad you like it
Oh no he used the line "It's not you, it's me!" 😂
I'm going to name 1 of my males Deuce Bigalow male gigolo🤣
Hahahaha
The time and effort you put in to help everyone is amazing thank you for the time you give to all of use
Thanks for watching
if you figure how many birds you need first, you can figure how much feed you need for their lifetime:
64 birds= 32 F/ 32 M (before culling)
64/16 ounces = 4 lbs of feed per batch of birds per day
4 lbs x 56 days until harvest = 224 lbs
224 lbs of feed / 50 lb bags of feed = 4.48 bags (5 bags)
5 bags of feed x $20/ bag = $100 for the feed to grow out 64 birds to 8 weeks old (harvest)
$100 / 64 birds = $1.56 / bird
Of those 64 birds, 32 (the females) are laying eggs daily for 4 weeks?
4 weeks x 7 days/week = 28 days of laying
28 days per layer x 32 layers = 896 eggs
32 egg layers x $1.56 / bird = $49.92 for all females' lifetime of feed
$49.92 for lifetime feed / 896 eggs = $0.056 per egg (with no losses)
64 birds was based on needing 16 birds per month for eating, and 32 for laying to replenish stock for eggs to eat and eggs to hatch (my math might be wrong on how many birds I need, but it doesn't hurt to pack the freezer!)
I like it
Great information, thanks for sharing.
I hv a question:
How do I calculate price per pound from the $1.56 per bird value? Thanks
Nice job, thanks
Thank you for showing this, I wouldn't even know where to start! No need to keep apologizing you are helping us out! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped
Awesome. Thank you! Wish I could write that neatly. 15 minute 32 seconds of awesome video minus 10 minutes of apology equals 5 minute 32 second video. 🤣. Glad for the apologies, I would have thought the video was way too short without them. 😂
Hahahaha
Outstanding logical and common sense presentation. Thank you!
Thank you very much
Have the math already done and stop apologizing for your wonderful service that you've provided on this excellent video
Thank you
Don't apologize! This video was fantastic. Very helpful.
Thanks for watching
This is brilliant, I punched all the calcs into an Excel file, and now I have seen the results in changes to my feed cost immediately. Also, how fermenting/sprouting/garden scraps affect my costs too. Very helpful TY!
Wonderful to hear. Good luck on your adventure with quail
I am in Ghana and following your channel and all that you do. Thanks for the service
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for make this it is very helpful.
Glad it helps
Very well explained thank you
Thanks for watching
That was great!! I got it!!! I love the way you break it down. My mind can wrap around this!! Thank you Zack!!
Great. Hope it helps
Spectacular info. Thanks.
For those saying "but I only pay $xx.xx for 50lbs"...
There are many variables. Cost of the feed is just one variable. Are you raising your own replacement hens? Factor in the chick feed before they're laying, too.
Also true
I like the $20/bag because that's what I get 22% protein crumbles for! So my big white Coturnix quail are eating about 5-cents per day of feed. I'm glad that you factored in for the males' feed consumption as well. Most people figure THAT and then wonder why they end up short on feed!
Yes males are easily forgotten
Would you mind sharing what brand crumble you are using and where you are buying it. $20 is a great price.
I’m horrible at math. This helped me a lot. I haven’t started raising them yet but will soon enough.
Good luck and glad it helped
Don't put yourself down. Great info!
Thank you
Love the math videos. I'm a college culinary arts instructor, these remind me a lot of what my classes on costing out recipes are. Always fun and kinda amazing to see what it actually costs. Thanks Zack!
Awesome.
Yep, I worked at a restaurant, and boss was ALWAYS harping out about food costs!
This is how I do the math too, you explained it perfectly 👌
Thank you.
Good Job. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Thank u so much. This is extremely helpful to calculate our expenses. Love the Chanel, and continue to do this great work. GOD BLESS..
Thanks for watching and good luck on your adventure
Good video though I must say all the conversions are giving me PTSD flashbacks to college chemistry.
I hear ya hahahaha
That was quite explicit. Thank you
Glad it helped
You have great hand writing. Info was great too.
Thanks hahaha
Love the video. If you have to do this calculation often I hope you put it in an excel spreadsheet 😂
We do now hahahaha
Thank you so much!! You saved me so much work! This is exactly the kind of numbers my husband wants when evaluating wether or not an animal is cost effective for us. We are getting quail chicks next week and I wasnt looking forward to all the tracking to get the numbers for him!! Thank you!! Thank you!!! We will watch your videos as well. 🙂
Great, glad to help
zack your videos are never boring, there very informative, we need to know this for raising quail.
Thanks for watching
this helps so much, thank you!
Glad it helped!
Great Video.
Glad you enjoyed it
You could put all this information in an Excel spreadsheet and have it crank out numbers for you so all you had to do every month is plug in the numbers and it will automatically calculate everything so it probably take you 15-20 minutes to set up the spreadsheet and after that it's just a matter of plugging in the numbers it'll save you hours a year
Yes a good friend of mine actually did that for me and it does save a lot of time for sure
@@MyshireFarm so nice to have help in areas one is weak. The importance of community and unity cannot be underestimated.
THANK YOU!!
Thanks for watching
Really like the video, the frequent apologies. If someone can not understand what you are doing, ... (well, they do not need to be doing quail). You do great, keep it coming.
Thank you
Awesome video! Math doesn't like! Ya gotta know what your costs are so you know where did the money go. Feed costs are crazy!
Absolutely
You did a great job. I am not criticizing you with my last comment. Very informative. Thanks.
I did not take it at all that way. Appreciate you watching and commenting
Very well explained. Thank you
Thanks for watching
That was an awesome explanation!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the video, it's more motivation to get started and to order from you guys.
I almost commented that you had a mistake but I see you just rounded 😀 from $0.0547 to $0.05.
I did the math kind of backwards of you by figuring out total annual feed LBS first (1.5ozx365daysx1.2 to include rooster), then multiply by $0.40 for annual spend, then divide by 300 eggs/yr to get $0.05475/egg.
Thanks for watching and yes there are a lot of steps for sure hahahaha
I get my feed from the mill for $14 a 50lb bag seems to do great they lay great on it..
That’s awesome.
You explained this really well.
Thank you
Loved this
Thank you
Math is always fun
Is it? Hahahahaha
Fun, no, but very interesting. But then I dropped Calc II twice.
Hi formula is great, i put together the same basically program in to a Excel format for chickens, just put in the cost plus lbs., and wham bam it is all figured out, thanks for all the post's they have been a great help. Looking to pick up 110 eggs this nest month and getting started producing some good meat and eggs.
aging thank you
Wonderful to hear. Good luck on your adventure
Great job. Very helpful! Thanks Zack.
Thanks for watching
Wonderful info. Thanks for the hard work that went into this video. I will watch again and take good notes. Blessings to you all! 🌺🐣💜
Thank you so much for watching
HUH .. LOL .. It sounds right to me .. It does make sense but Definitely mind boggling
Absolutely
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching
Great Job!! Thanks for explaining this.
Thanks for watching
Yeah I'd just divide the bag price by the number of servings in it, then do the last part.
Though that that still requires obtaining some of the prior information first.
Good idea
Awesome. Thanks. 😊
Thanks for watching
Sound’s awsome
Thanks for watching
Great explanation 🙂 ur follower from yemen.
Thanks for watching
I understand it! 😀👍
Great. Good luck!
Good info.

wow you guys are still in the past... pound and ounce stuff.......... Does England use that anymore?
Yeah the metric system did not make it over here
@@MyshireFarm sad stuff.. and the USA runs the UN security council you say :D Maybe a computer update/upgrade might fix the US problem..?
I'm leaving my job and moving to my farm with my wife and child to grow Cornish Broilers, Quail broilers, Quail eggs, Meat Sheep, and a densely packed feed lot for some Cows. maybe some turkeys too.. and a very very over worked Bobcat/skidsteer taking all their poop to my massive worm farm..
Thanks. $20 is h9w much I do pay.
Not bad
Good explanation ,bit I use métric sistema (Kg) ,and O have tô do a Lot of transformation.
Good luck
I love your video. yes, there is a shorter method, it is called excel spreadsheet. Once, you set it up all you have to do is change the number in your inputs.
Thanks. A subscriber of ours actually set all that up for us and it works great!
@@MyshireFarm i am glad someone did that for you .. it saved me the time to make a spreadsheet for you
@@MyshireFarm would you be willing to share a copy of the excel sheet or add it to your “Store” tab as a free download?
Good info Thanks!
Thanks for watching
50lb x 16oz =800oz. At 2 oz per serving that’s 400 servings. 400 / 20 cost per bag. =.05/serving
Well that eliminates about 47 steps hahahaha
I ordered some eggs from you and they are in shipping stage. I like to wait til i have #s of birds / $26 for 50 pound bag of 30% game bird starter = cost per bird
50 pound bag should last me a month with an estimate of 25 birds
Good luck and that would be your feed cost. You would have supply cost and overhead cost of cages, waterers feeders etc
I luv your shirt, do you sell them?
We have a few different shirt options on our website at www.myshirefarm.com
You can put this into excel so you don't have to do the math each time, just enter your variables and you'll get a solution.
I do have that on there but I HATE computers and I have a patience issue with computers
Keep in mind that compared to a regular large chicken egg, is equal to about 3 Jumbo quail, or 4 Standard quail eggs if used for cooking or baking. Which comes to be about $0.24 equivalent, using your numbers rounding up (3 Jumbo $0.08 per, and 4 Standard $0.06 per quail egg).
Crazy thing is a the cheapest carton of eggs from Walmart is about $0.21 (rounded up) per chicken egg. You save $0.03 cents per chicken egg compared to the equivalent quail eggs...
But you don't have any idea how fresh the store bought eggs are, or what the chickens were fed, and or treated (antibiotics) with. And you don't get to eat the chicken that laid the egg. So all in all, it is still worth having your own flock of quail that is a renewable source of food for your family, especially with all the love and care you put into the quail to keep them happy and performing well.
Agreed plus who knows if the store will have some on any given day with how it looks now
But using that logic, you don't store food, so how do you know there will be feed at the feed store when you place your order?
There's the taste, too. Some say quail eggs are the finest eggs to eat.
I think the chicken egg industry just successfully lobbied to increase shelf life to 45 days. As cheap as Wal-Mart is, a gaurantee they aren't selling the freshest eggs, ever.
@@carlossmith607 that is a very real issue right now. Everytime I buy feed, I buy an extra bag. Bc there HAS been a couple times the feed didnt get a full delivery or even get their delivery at all. We live rural so the next feed store is 2hrs away. We also plan on putting our quail cages on the ground during the summer so the quail can eat grass and bugs. Which will lesson our dependance on feed for a couple months before they have to be moved into the garage when it gets cold. As with any animal, pet or livestock, you just have to plan ahead and or have alternate ways of feeding if necessary.
well it is now 5$ per 12 chicken eggs in store so around 40cents each, when you keep the quail in garage will it smell up the whole place like chickens?
Seems to me you could use a spread sheet to create a formula where all you would have to do is plug in your #s But I'm not sure. I have extremely limited knowledge in this area
Yes a subscriber of mine actually did that and it is very helpful
Thanks man for the video you did . help me a lot. Do you believe creating gmail for sale is a good market?
Do you have a video that talks about how much profit you can make selling eggs or meat?
purchases over 500 will you get a discount?
only females lay eggs?
If I buy 500 eggs from you, which one would you have an idea of the rate at which females and males are born?
thnaks
Every avenue you can sell is ideal, I do not have a video about pricing as costs are different for everyone. We do not do discounts unless it is over 5,000 at one time and then we take off .5 cents an egg, only females lay eggs, and it is usually 50/50 male to female hatch
i ordered my quail eggs on March first is there a estimate when they will arrive to my home
You can text or email me with your invoice number and I can look for you.
Do you have a guesstimate on amount of feed consumed from 0-8 weeks for jumbo?
We do we have a quail math video on that as well…..
ua-cam.com/video/i1jWNpUmls0/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for doing this. I've been wondering how much my quailies cost me as I move into the quail products markets.
Another market that I'd like more information about is schooling and offering incubator and eggs for schools and home schooling. Is there any money in this?
Not money but is very rewarding.
What could possibly go wrong? We need to form a committee to answer that simple question.
I've thought about donating eggs and an incubator too BUT....WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG and exactly how harsh will the consequences be for ME and my quail?
It could get pretty messed up if a student at Urbana, Illinois , one of the most liberal communities on earth, got sick from a bird allergy. Think about it. Just sayin
In the video, you stated that you take the weight of the feed divided by the cost. Actually it's the cost divided by the weight of the feed to get the cost per pound.
Thank you
To get the price per pound you have to divide price by pound. As in $20 divided by 50 pounds. Zac has done it correctly. I think he said it incorrectly.
Sometimes math is hard for me hahahaha
So If I paid $40 the cost is double? and converted to Canadian. $CAN 0.10/ egg
No Canada is the same price as our U.S. side.
Spreadsheet that does these calculations would make it much faster on a regular basis
I had a friend of mine actually make a spreadsheet and it works great
Just divide by mount of servings in a bag!
That would take a while for me but yes you could
Just tell us is it good or bad... cos I lost you quite early on.
Sorry to hear that
$20 / 800 oz = .025 per oz = .05 per day
There you go
At 50¢ an egg 30 pack would go for $15 bucks add in a pair of scissors at $5, $20. Don't need to make change either. And ensures repeat business. It's a steady tenfold profit.
Here is some Chicken Math: It takes 2.6 pounds of chicken feed for 1 pound of meat. This is for Cornish Rock meat birds! The Freedom line of chickens eat LOTS more than that! They both take about 10 weeks! So one 7 pound chicken will need 17.5 or more pounds of feed! Yikes!
That seems like a lot
Why aren’t my quail laying eggs ?
We have a video on that. You need 16-18 hours of light a day, age plays a factor, 3 quail per sq ft and 5 hens to 1 male
One comment is your units were off… You’re giving the prices as .05 cents, there should be $.05 if it’s five cents. so your math was really in dollars, which .0 one would be one cent, denominated in dollars.
I could see that confusing someone because if they think they’re paying .05 cents per egg, but they’re really paying five cents per egg that is a factor of 100 difference - - that’s my only comment, it was pretty easy to follow. I think there were a few small math errors along the way, but I would think people got the gist.
Thank you
@@MyshireFarm if you ever want to run something by me, before you post it, I’d happily provide some input… I’m guessing someone else probably brought these things up, given that it was posted two years ago. I just discovered your channel and I’m very grateful for you sharing as much as you have. Anyway, just wanted to make that offer.
If you're just considering feed cost, the simplest calculation is to assume 1 egg per day.
For jumbos: 2oz of feed goes in, 1 egg comes out.
Therefore 1 egg costs 2oz of feed.
And of course, feed prices vary.
That is one way to do it for sure
Your hat is a distraction. Getting in the way of your board. Just sayin.
Sorry. I almost always have a hat on
