UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 was full of exciting matches and fueled the beef even more between New Wave and B Team. Gordon Ryan was announcing the event and cornering Nicholas Meregali who beat Felipe Pena. Nicky Rod calls out both Gordon Ryan and Nicholas Meregali. What an exciting time for jiu jitsu :)

The BJJ community needs to stop using BJJ resources to learn how to wrestle. Danaher's explanation is like day 100 youth wrestling camp explanation. Go watch Jeff Jordan's single leg series for the basics of the single leg game.

The way I see it, the B Team may use the Chicago Bulls moniker but New Wave really represents the 96-98 Championship Bulls Team in spirit & execution. John Danaher is Phil Jackson + Tex Winter combined in terms of philosophy & strategy. Gordon is Jordan & Meregali is Rodman. I see B Team as the 80s Bad Boy Pistons. Craig is Isiah Thomas & Nicky Rod as Bill Laimbeer who always causing Gordon trouble verbally.

did you build the outlier database yourself? or did you pay a software dev? this is a crazy high level of studying man, i’d love to create something similar for striking & specifically coach barry robinson’s instructionals & film studies. striking is waaaay behind the curve - BJJ, wrestling, judo, etc all have great linguistics, they emphasize positional wins(which matter in striking more than the strikes themselves), and so on.

I like B-Team. But the "rivalry" is not real. It's just a bunch of online drama. Competetively and by the numbers, it's not even close. I think the only person on B-Team that could "potentially" beat Gordon is Nicky Rod. But even that would have to be in a very specific ruleset, like EBI, where he could use the ruleset to get to overtime where submission holds are already given. Other than that, it's a stretch to say they're even competetive at this point.

@@jameswilsonmusic7749he is talking about how I teach that handfighting strategies need to match the stance type(s). Trying to snap someone down when they are standing upright is as useful as trying to shoot on someone who is lying on their stomach. 😂😂 This is well known in wrestling, but clearly hasn’t been taught in BJJ. So I taught it and talk about it so people understand why this collar tie battle is useless unless his spinal alignment is in the appropriate position.
This video has some impeccable timing actually based on the video I just put out on this very topic.😂😂 Probably just a coincidence though.

The stats prove what most would assume, John’s teaching is what made them all great. The ones that stayed with him are still improving while the others skillsets aren’t evolving. Joesph Chen isn’t their student but he is an exceptional athlete that evolves his own game which is why he’s the only one progressing. Take Helena, there will never be a female out of b team to defeat her. Gordon is Gordon, they know how they stack up to him. Nicky Rod got exposed for his lack of evolution. Gordon’s little brother hasn’t improved either. Craig is self admittedly lazy. When there’s nobody in charge to hold everyone accountable it doesn’t matter how much talent is there if they don’t work hard and evolve they have no chance to be great. Luke, Nicolas, Big Dan, David, Dominick and Helena will probably make a run at ADCC. Time will tell, I could be wrong, won’t be a surprise. I’m just a huge fan of John. He teaches his team for free. Who does that? Only an exceptionable human being.

So. I agree, but I think the clip of Nicky Rod not taking the opportunity to promote that instructional after the fact is kind of the difference. He has a strategy for those positions but it’s more instinctual. For us without that instinct we need the proper instructional to keep up and understand the matches.

I totally understand that you want to promote you're product the outlier database.
I am grateful for your videos and learned heaps about different aspects for bjj from your videos.
But tbf the amount of promotion in these videos kinda drives me away from watching your new stuff... its just way to much.
I still come back to old videos but mentally flag new ones when there is too much outlier database stuff...
I value the insights you provide, and I hope that future content strikes a balance that brings your valuable insights in the content again to the forefront.

Point taken and thank you for the thoughtful comment! The database is pretty much my life for the past 4 months and its all I do, so I think I just get a bit excited about it.
Did the highlighting sections of written text bother you? Or more of the sales pitches? My intention in the highlighting text portions of the video was to show my thought/research process and give credit where it is due. So basically what I am wondering is if that is coming across sales pitchy.

@@LIMIBJJ First of all - Happy New Year! Apologies for the delayed response...
Dont get me wrong by all means you should promote the database you worked hard for it and gave us tremendous free insight and basically partial instructionals for free! What is incredibly so far! Like everyone else in the comment section I greatly appreciate your work!
Regarding your question, it's not so much about the highlighting sections but more about the frequency and the way it's presented. I completely understand your desire to credit sources. However, the frequent transitions make it definitely come across as a bit sales-pitchy. "Look my database ... look again ... oh what a coincidence again"
Maybe instead consolidate the mentions after the technique part or mention the instctuionals on the audio and dedicate a specific section where you pitch the database and less section highlights, in my eyes it disrupts the flow of the video... Havent watched your 2023 recap. but doing it soon
Keep up the great work, and looking forward to more content in 2024!

For sure. This makes total sense. Thank you for taking the time to leave a respectful and thoughtful comment. I think my plan moving forward is to just mention the database in my videos and use it in a highlighting type manner. Then if people want more info I can direct them to a new channel I made where I will post tutorials on how to use the database. We will see how this works. Definitely figuring this out as I go so thank you for the feedback

But I think Gordon Ryan can learn a lot from a Humbling destruction. Come to Utah. Jeremy Horns Elite Performance ask for Steve Gomm and learn from a Humble man how good you can become. Id love to see that bet match.
