3:20 I don't agree with any of this at all. Both in blue shift and hl2 Barney represents the common man, someone who has no individual power nor relevance and is thrust into an impossible situation, but his spirit lets him fight against impossible odds along with other people equally as powerless as him. It is cool he individually can do little more than survive, but lead people to survival in BS and to revolution in hl2, it is cool that gman does not even acknowledge him but still contributes to make a change. It is a message about humanity's resistance and will to live on and making him overly important defeats this purpose. There is a reason Gordon Freeman is a scientist, valve wanted their protagonist to not be a super soldier action figure like the others at the time but instead be a normal guy thrust into a difficult situation. Barney is the same, only without an hev suit and a degree in theoretical physics.
Yeah that point by Noclick was bad, because that was kind of the point of Barney's character, in Blueshift at least, he isn't supossed to be a big game changer compared to people like Adrian or Gordon, G-Man not even showing that much interest in him compared to Freeman and Shephard helps show that. That was the point of Blueshift, there's a reason why you're a security guard, there's like a gazillion of those in HL1, Calhoun is just another one of those, it's just that he was Gordon's drinking partner and later became a resistance leader later in the timeline.

Black Mesa Blue Shift is a re-imagining. That entire section where you have to find a guard? Never existed in the original game. Counts as re-imagining to me.
The canal part is not supposed to work like that, you just sequence broke that entire section. If you back track to where you met the maintenance guy, there’s an open door. From there it’s pretty easy to understand and you even get a shotgun. Hey, I was playing Focal point yesterday!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that got softlocked in the canal part, the difference is that i eventually figured it out without cheating
I would play black mesa blue shift, IF IT ACTUALLY BOOTED UP
The crowbar collective need to hire those guys
