He didn´t even act in this movie. Just adapted and improvised into the original characters dialogue... He expressed himself through the character, perhaps beyond modern method acting there lies being yourself through your character. I believe that´s what Marlon Brando and many actors sometimes achieve in their acting that makes them great, and if not great, at least lost in character, which in my opinion is the highest form of acting an individual achieves.
He did the same in Apocalypse Now. I always thought Coppola or Milius had labored over Colonel Kurtz's dialogue. Turns out it was mostly Brando improvising. Incredible
Unbelievable acting ability. I felt like I was right next to him, feeling his breath touch my skin as he described his childhood.
The movie might be problematic as hell, but this performance by Brando is masterclass acting.
