The Black,Green and white “buggy” is our off road rally car. 980kgs tubular space frame chassis 375bhp rear mid M3 3.0L engine 6 speed sequential with flat shift. We run in the prototype class which means anything is allowed regarding engine size, power and weight of the vehicle so long as it conforms to strict MSUK or FIA safety regulations. This video is Ceri Forest in Wales 2016 or 2017.. the next Bxcc event in 2024 is back at Ceri Forest in May
I used to really enjoy the RAC Rally at that time. Something you could follow on tv then. My enthusiasm for Skoda goes back to those days - the little rear engined cars that won their classes year after year memorably pounding around the Welsh forests!
I love your expressions. Really genuine. There's loads to see, but I get excited watching classic touring car championships. People with classic 10k to 1m+ classic cars racing each other in different classes. Very exciting.
1:25 Vitara, maybe? 2:27 The lights seem to be Citroen ZX? 2:51 The middle part seems may have been a 205, maybe? 3:08 MG Metro 6R4! 5:36 Renault Clio! 6:55 Those are the rear lights of an Elise! I would say most of the cars are what we called "a buggy" in the 90s: self made vehicles to race off road. And I need to think about Jean-Louis Schlesser, of which the most famous car was the Schlesser Original. He won "the Dakar" in 1999 and 2000.
There’s everything from British build Lofthouse machine, Milners to French off road cars Rivets and Foucarts. Great sport. If you want to see mare come see us in the off road arena at Goodwood FOS.
The more extreme machines are custom built like an ultra4 truck based on a smaller car with a fiberglass body. The really stock looking black landrover was a freelander. A crossover sized 4x4 similar to a bigger suzuki.
I didn't know this existed, but I like it very much. The cars look like those used in Rally Dakar. I also love the variety. Different engines, different bodies, etc. I'd live to compete in that. But the builds look EXPENSIVE!
There are 9 classes (I think) in the BXCC. They're based on the level of modification from standard. The top class is for bespoke prototypes. Some classes are split between beam axles and independent suspension.
We run a vehicle similar to the first car shown on the vid and its a millner Range rover Evoque (space frame with fibreglass panels) running a LS3 engine and we use it to compete in the BXCC and comp safari events
The car @ 5:32 was a heavily modified renault clio (second generation 1998-2004 as I'm not sure if it is phase 1 or phase 2 of the second generation) This is the car after which you started searching the web for answers on the cars, so I thought I provided as much as I can. I used to has a second gen clio like that (well not a heavily modified one like in the video) as my first car. It was a super nimble and peppy car as it weighs super little around 2000 lbs and had a good engine in it. Only thing was that I fixed it to a useable state after a friend of mine had an accident with it, meaning there was a lot of wind coming into the cabin from the passenger side door as it was severely malformed. This caused the whole car to vibrate a LOT while on the highway 😅 It was a super fun car though. And I got it for free because I fixed it in multiple places. Best part was that I didn't expect to get it donated to me, but they just gave it after a while out of thanks.
The car at 3.14 is a 6R4 it was a souped up Mini Metro. This car was out in the 80s (group B series) but group B cars were banned mid 86 season due to a number of fatalities with drivers and spectators. The car was built around a model that your granny would feel comfortable driving into town.
Because most of the cars aren't road legal, BXCC events take place on a single stage. Each competitor has to complete a certain number of runs (usually 10 or 12) over 2 days.
There are a number of companies that build cars specifically for this type of rallying. Here, we see ones from Bowler, Milner and Lofthouse, among others I'm not sure of the name of. The French are big into this kind of rallying, as well.
I’m not completely up to date with the British champ regs, but the ones local to me run these classes: Stock, Mod 1 (cut body shells, different engine), Mod 2 (same as Mod 1, but can change engine placement and use more purpose built parts), and Proto (fully custom built, not based on road cars underneath). Then you’ve got your engine size classes within those divisions
You can almost certainly change your country in the search engine to give a more targetted search, have to move to the states on a regular basis to help with my search
The Land Rover based ones sound as though they are powered by the Rover 3.5 litre V8. A fairly simple conversion as they bolt straight on to the same bell housing as the 2.2 Straight 4.
i been to meany of these events there amazing machine great fun to watch the BCCC had big brakes between runs and amount of cars that run dropped a lot over the years and that kind of sucked that's why i loved AWDC safari events more, its non stop action almost and bit more lose on the rules def check out some AWDC safari vids {all wheel drive club}
I have entered this there is lots of ccv clubs across the country and you can enter stock vehicles and it’s free to get a licence for it as well it’s one of the cheapest motorsports to get into
If you like this I suspect you'd love the Extreme-E racing series. They take electric off road cars to different types of terrain and then race 5 cars at a time, so it's like rallying but where they start together instead of being a minute or two apart.
You definitely need to do a video on the metro 6r4 one of the most wild cars to come out of the group B era which then found a second life and fame on the European rallycross circuits of the 80s and 90s
Lots of land rovers, Bowlers (extreme modified LRs), an MG Metro 6R4, and a rather moded Renault Clio to name a few things seen in the video! DEFINITELY CHECK OUT BOWLER CARS!
Round 3 27 & 28 July 2024 Llandrindod Wells, Wales. Where i live , They were in builth Wells just up the road 2 years ago , The sound is better in real life x
I knew nothing about this myself and I'm from and in the UK. It looks like kind of rally+, like someone took the ideas of green-laning of driving off-road trails and mixed it with rallying. For the vehicles... the 'mostly stock' ones were definitely all Land Rovers. the others... some might be their own things, some were heavily modified versions of other vehicles - the blue one at 5:32 I'm 95% sure is an old Renault Clio. And at 3:23 - another blue one coincidentally - is a classic Defender very heavily modified. I wonder if it's twin engined or if they just fully removed the engine from the front? 3:10 has a Mitsubishi badge, but looks like an 80s MG Rally car. Might be like an old Colt or something though... Possibly some others are very heavily modified production cars too. Love the video and definitely a very cool and interesting series. Again, it's kind of like Rally+, using rougher routes than a more typical rally car could cope with?
From memory, there used to be someone who competed with one of the teams in this back in late 2006-2008 on a forum I was on, the 'car' they had was basically a spaceframe with a peugeot 205 'shell' as it was all fibreglass and I think it had a mid mounted rotary in it. So at first glance it looked like a lifted 205, but everything was custom made.
A bit off topic here but have you heard, a good few weeks ago, that the American rally association is in talks about hosting a new WRC in the USA! Possibly in 2026 or 2027! Maybe you already know about this but apparently it would be held in Tennessee. Check it out man! I’m sure you’d be hyped about it.
Check out Colin McRae who is unfortunately no longer with us after passing in a helicopter crash. He was by far the greatest rally driver the world had ever seen he was brilliant. I think you'd like him. He competed in the WRC world rally championship.
watch Erzberg Rodeo! It was the hardest, biggest enduro event and the US stars (Pastrana aso) failed badly and couldnt nearly finish when they came bye like rockstars, hihi. All hard enduro events are kinda okay but this was different ;) I hope it comes back as an Austrian, living 10miles to it!
I encourage you to watch rally du touquet. It's a french rally championship with Rally 2 cars in the best classe (Skoda Citroen C3, Volksawen Polo etc...). You can see the highlight very easy on youtube of this year, it was alsome with raining.
Hey mate not sure if you will see this but for a really cheap motor sport you should check out targa rallying in the UK as you can enter in a standard car if you wish check out the video of a targa rally in the UK called the classic tracks targa rally mate
3:13 That looks suspiciously like a an MG Metro 6R4 Group B Rally Car - a slightly upgraded version of a small hatchback. The Austin-Rover company launched a basic small hatchback in the 1980's as a replacement for the classic Mini (Princess Diana had a yellow one), typical European small hatch with 1.0litre to 1.3-litre engines. As the company also owned the old MG Sportscar company, once they stopped using the brand to sell small British sports cars, they used to it make sporty versions of their basic road cars... so ended up with: Austin-Rover Metro / MG Metro Austin-Rover Maestro / MG Maestro / MG Maestro Turbo Austin-Rover Montego / MG Montego The eventually decided to join in the Group-B rallying lark, so developed the Metro 6R4 with a twin turbo-charged V6 engine that also eventually ended up in the back of the Jaguar XJ-220 supercar, but it wasn't ready before Group B rallying got scrapped from the World Rally Championship - so mostly ended up being used elsewhere, such as: - Manx rally - Rallycross events (half race-track, half dirt-course) at places like Brands Hatch + Lyddon Hill - Hill Climb Events - Other events such as the off road racing thing seen in this video www.mgownersclub.co.uk/mg-guides/saloons/mg-metro-6r4 Also worth looking-up: "Bowler WildCat" (as previously seen on episodes of "Top Gear") - where a company took a basic Land Rover, and gave it a few major upgrades to basically turn it into a Land Rover Defender Group B Rally car like the things in this video and events like the Paris-Dakar rally. Think the main episode for it is Season 17, Episode 6 featuring a team of amputee British Veterans competing in an event like this to get to grips with the Bowler off-roader before competing in the Paris-Dakar ua-cam.com/video/nTZW5a6rC3M/v-deo.html

The Volvo 850 + S40 cars used in the BTCC were prepared by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), who also developed the Metro 6R4 + Jaguar XJ-220..... and I remember coming across a video a while back explaining how they managed to stretch the rules a bit to make the engine used in the BTCC fit within the rules ua-cam.com/video/0BfEs5fSxWM/v-deo.html Smallest engine Volvo did was a 2.4-litre 5=Cylinder lump, so TWR had to make a few slight alterations to get within the BTCC rule for a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine with 4 to 6 cylinders, restricted to 8500rpm, while still pumping out enough power to keep it competitive against the 280 to 320bhp average.
@@jduck1979 Waw, you have just so many facts wrong, go back to school or stop writing with such authority. Smallest 850 engine 2.4ltr, what the hell are you talking about, twin turbo 6R4 😂🤣
Mann, if U had one of these cars now, it would be 10x more money at least than they were brand new! I have seen one of these Metro sport cars on the road in over 30 years! 😂

Good luck for May mate, cracking build, excuse the pun...
That is so cool. Thanks for sharing the info, good luck at the next event 🎉😎
Metro 6r4 making an appearance. Cult car.
My first car was an MG Metro Turbo,so naturally I love the 6R4.
I’ve navigated that car multiple times, it’s an honor to race in it
It’s home made to look like a 6r4, has a bmw m3 engine in the back and home built chassis
That and my personal favourite the Lancia Stratos
037 for me but that little Ferrari engined Stratos is a close second...😎
You should also check out some 80's and 90's footage from the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). That was something different.
The days of Group A and Supertouring were the stuff of legends
I used to really enjoy the RAC Rally at that time. Something you could follow on tv then. My enthusiasm for Skoda goes back to those days - the little rear engined cars that won their classes year after year memorably pounding around the Welsh forests!
Like suicide missions
This is between SCORE racing and rally, in line with Dakar and the World Rally Raid Championship. Some cool British cars, Metro 6R4, Bowlers etc
I love your expressions. Really genuine.
There's loads to see, but I get excited watching classic touring car championships. People with classic 10k to 1m+ classic cars racing each other in different classes.
Very exciting.
You need to check out the Bowler Wildcats & Nemesis, Land Rover based but lightweight body shells, V8 engines
They're building one based on the current Defender too now. Not seen any videos of it without stupid music over-top, sadly.
Rover/TVR hybrid V8's no less.
Bowler is the real deal. Dakar ready from factory if you want.
I used to build the wildcats. After bowler started with the nemesis. Cool cars shame the Fia wouldn't allow the supercharged v8 at the time

They normally have a driver and navigator on board. Which enables them to be driven flat out.

Love the number plates behind you lol. BROCK.

Austin-Rover Montego / MG Montego
The eventually decided to join in the Group-B rallying lark, so developed the Metro 6R4 with a twin turbo-charged V6 engine that also eventually ended up in the back of the Jaguar XJ-220 supercar, but it wasn't ready before Group B rallying got scrapped from the World Rally Championship - so mostly ended up being used elsewhere, such as:

Smallest engine Volvo did was a 2.4-litre 5=Cylinder lump, so TWR had to make a few slight alterations to get within the BTCC rule for a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine with 4 to 6 cylinders, restricted to 8500rpm, while still pumping out enough power to keep it competitive against the 280 to 320bhp average.
back in the day, the first car I had at 17 was an MG Metro 1.3 😆
@@jduck1979 Waw, you have just so many facts wrong, go back to school or stop writing with such authority. Smallest 850 engine 2.4ltr, what the hell are you talking about, twin turbo 6R4 😂🤣

Never heard of this either, but some of the cars remind me of Dakar rally cars.
