Yeah I don't think people understand how naive and vulnerable teenagers are and especially teenagers who've had really unstable home lives. I know I was definitely this vulnerable
I was in Gemma's year at school, she was always strange. And the fact she only got 2 and half years baffles me. As for learning difficulties, that's rubbish!!!
Yeah, I don't know if someone with intellectual disabilities could pull that off. Definitely could be autistic though. I also wonder about autoandraphilia and/or if she could be a lesbian.
There's clearly something very wrong with her , she sounds unhinged and creepy to do the effed up stuff she did , the justice system is a massive joke. They should have atleast kept her locked up in a psychiatric unit with no internet access . She'll probably do this again ,as she''ll be back on the internet looking for her next victims to befriend no doubt.
Of course a duck lips wouldn't know autism being a spectrum. You probably bullied her. The fact you called her strange IS A BIG BIG FINGER POINT TO BEING ON THE SPECTRUM. you literally look like you bully now.
Is nana a little naive to think teenagers are going to share a room and a bed for the night and nothing is going to happen? Admittedly not what she thought.
Especially when captain caveman turns up grunting and pointing at things, you'd think she'd be like "Hang on a minute somethings not right here" If that was my mum or nan they'd keep asking questions to work out what's going on and not just walk away after a couple of grunts.
There are two fascinating things about this story. The first is how on earth Gemma managed to pull this off in the first place. When you think about it, the scam was quite sophisticated for a young girl to pull off. Yet in other ways, she was quite naive because as the reporter said, after she assaulted that girl, she could simply have had her male egos disappear and the police would most likely never have guessed what happened. But she doubled down on it, admitting to an assault, and then made it worse by claiming an asault happened to her real self and claimed compensation for it. That seems to be at odds with the cleverness of the con that she managed to pull off. The other fascinating thing is that the girls were so naive. If it had been in the 70s this happened, I could quite understand it. I was very naive in those days as a teenager. But this is the 2,000s and girls now and then, were quite wordly wise in general. Also the fact that "Connor" did not speak ever but communicated via text. That is the most bizarre thing but it appeared to be acceptable to this girl. Also that the girls didn't recognise that it was their friend. I don't think any of my friends at that age could have disguised themselves to the extent that I could not recognise them.
@personincognito3989 I was very naive at 16. And didn't have a boyfriend until then. But I think even then I would have realised that things were not right or normal.
It's like a mixture of something being insidious and the benality of it all, totally fooled. When a lot of things happen you look back on them and think how did the get away with that it all seems so obvious now. It's like Shipman who was fooling people for years and getting away with murder, it took getting away with it for a long time and eventually making an even stupider mistake for people to get suspicious and to get caught.
Sexual assault is always disgusting but especially when it’s a close friend manipulating them and forcing them into a same sex relationship by lying? It’s worse. What these poor girls went through they will never trust any one again. she should’ve gotten more time in prison she’s a predator
Oh, you reckon she _knew what she was doing?_ Interesting theory. See, there was me thinking that she was just doing all these separate behaviours at random, like dressing up as men, creating facebook accounts for them, and messaging her friends as these fake alter egos, and it was just some enormous coincidence that they all happened to align to the point where it deceived her friends, led to her being able to meet them in person, over and over again, to a situation wherein she could have sexual contact with them. But, you think all of these things might be linked, and they were all part of her plan? I can't say that this idea had occurred to me at all. But seriously now, sarcasm over; here's a gold medal for stating the absolute fucking obvious.
@@dieselpunk4117it’s called freedom of speech it’s called social media it’s called comment section she’s aloud to state the OBVIOUS if she wants to now bye

I don't really think it's a lack of empathy. It's disbelief. I feel bad for these poor girls, but it's hard to wrap your head around it. I have seen people catfished from someone they never met before, but not from their friends.
The look on her friends face at the table when she was explaining how Conor was assaulting her and blaming Luke as dressing up as Conor and doing it would always make her mad at Luke and not Conor was just sheer confusion when she said "right."

The young girl telling her story is really such a delightful young woman and despite having been duped, is actually very sensible. She's moved on and taken it in her stride, ( bravo! ), I'm so glad she found a nice boy and want to wish her and her friends all the best going forward.❤
Jess is an absolute hero. What a spunky personality she has! You get what you get with that one. Wish the girls all the best. Growing up is hard enough without someone manipulating and preying on you. They're stronger because of it and will take the experience and lessons learned with them as they navigate the rest of their lives, all the more wiser. Good on them for speaking out.
Yeah, I like it tbh, I really like Jessica and her matter of fact attitude. People need to know this shit, Gemma is capable of a lot more than she was charged for etc. The manipulation and brain washing went so deep, and she learned things about them, to use it against them or to manipulate them, like Jessica saying about her brother having alopecia so she could relate to 'him' not showing his head etc. It's fricken terrifying tbh!
As for why, please realize that a psychopath just ENJOYS messing with people's minds and manipulating them, it is the only form of turn on they know. Gemma will always be a psychopath, she will con again, 100 percent!
I remember seeing a documentary of this years ago, and thinking how insane it all sounded. Watching another documentary of the same case I still sit here and think it’s still all insane!
She does seem like she has some sort of special needs of some sort. I really can’t imagine how anyone could fall for this however inexperienced you were.
Worth remembering that these young vulnerable girls were conned & sexually assaulted by a very disturbed individual. We can all speculate on what they shouldn’t/should have noticed or done, but that’s simply victim derogation at its worst. They were children who shouldn’t have been put in this situation in the first place & it wasn’t their fault that they were.
She didn’t know 3 people were the same person I mean how dumb is she. Not just online but she knew them in real life and still didn’t know Yeah she’s lying through her teeth.
yeh, when she explained to her pal Connor was abusing her but 'then it would come out' that Connor had been at home & Luke had dressed up as Connor, come to her house as Connor (without her realising it was Luke no Connor) & assaulted her. I also found it weird when she realised it was sus when she saw the profile during the night she was 'OMG that's Aaron' but this had taken 6 months, and she'd not clocked Luke & Connor & Aaron & Gemma were all the exact same person in different clothing... despite multiple times having believe Luke had come to her house dressed as Connor, tricked her to think it was Connor then assaulted her...but the night she saw the side profile, she was 'OMG Aaron!'
You can be both at the same time, I had an iq test done and put me well above average however one particular test I was considered borderline as in bottom 10%. So I am sort smart but slow at routine tasks or something like that. It actually makes sense to me know because doing things like copying what a teacher wrote on a blackboard I couldn't keep up but most people could.
Yeah a learning disability doesn't mean low IQ. It just means bad at another group of skills, so dyspraxia bad at maths, dyslexia bad at writing and spelling, ADHD bad at concentrating etc. I definitely think her lawyer used this as an excuse and so people who don't know about disabilities would be softer on her.
This uhh jessica? HOW IS ANY HUMAN SO ADORABLE??? I lovvve that shirt she's wearing with the white collar, too. Absolutely fetch, girl is iconic. And yeah, i went for the swoopy emo hair shy dudes when i was young too haha. It's probably quite easy to fall for this when you're very young. In my 30s yeah i wouldn't, but remembering being that young, i would have fallen for it too. Poor bbz, i hope they got all the therapy and love to deal with this. It's a lot 😢
I wonder if Jessica could have autism. It would explain her not recognising that it was the same person. Autistic people can pay close attention to detail but miss the bigger picture. She mentions noticing her teeth, which is a sign of that. It would also explain her general naivety and vulnerability in this situation
hmm, do you think Alice did too? Alice knew Gemma for 2 yrs & also didn't recognise 4 people were 1 person in different outfits. The only person who is confirmed as autistic is the offender Gemma.
@@amandakate4951Yes often autistic people make friends with each other. Autistic people are also more likely to have face blindness. As well as being naive and being more vulnerable to believe lies. Poor Jessica had a brother with alopecia too, so using that excuse probably made her use her heart more than her head too.
That damn Mark Zuckerberg! 😂😂 On another note, how do you not recognize one of your friends dressed in boys clothing and a hat. I would be like "We switching up our style?"
This is totally on the parents of those teen girls. I understand that you cannot control the internet but you do not allow your child to have a relationship with anyone and you do not thoroughly vet that person. How were they able to wait outside of the boys alleged house for 7 hours and their parents are not aware. Know your kids ppl. Be involved in every aspect of their life.
The main girl seems neglected, they mentioned she moved in with her grandma at 14. The grandma was probably too old and behind about online interactions and the modern dating world. I also wonder how much the parental neglect contributed to their nievity and inability to see red flags in this case. I hope since then they have been able to develop well.
@@valolafson6035i wonder at what age I’ll start believing 15 year olds are retarded by default, it’s been almost 5 years since I was 15, and this is not normal behavior. Apparently older people either forget about what it’s like to be a teenager, or most of you were also absurdly dumb and immature.
You would think they would have caught on to the fact that they never seen the two of them together they were mutual friends on Facebook had mutual friends in real life Gemma or her alter ego never in the same place at the same time
That's why she lied about getting a full time job. When situations accured that they both should be at she could just blame why she's not there on work.
She actually asked them if they were related to Gemma because they looked so similar, so it's odd to say afterwards that she had no idea it was her. I'm not sure age is an excuse for stupidity though. Her friend tried to warn her that it wasn't right aswell.

Alice said leave my identity out of this 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was in Gemma's year at school, she was always strange.
Yearning difficulties maybe
Of course a duck lips wouldn't know autism being a spectrum. You probably bullied her. The fact you called her strange IS A BIG BIG FINGER POINT TO BEING ON THE SPECTRUM.
you literally look like you bully now.
Is nana a little naive to think teenagers are going to share a room and a bed for the night and nothing is going to happen? Admittedly not what she thought.
Haha, admittedly not, indeed!!!
Especially when captain caveman turns up grunting and pointing at things, you'd think she'd be like "Hang on a minute somethings not right here" If that was my mum or nan they'd keep asking questions to work out what's going on and not just walk away after a couple of grunts.
Nana raises grandkids like its still 70s and 80s. "Get back home when the streetlights turn on!"

Seriously wtf
I have been looking for this documentary for AGES
Me too! I remember watching it 10 years ago and I often still think about it. Crazy
Nah Jessica is so likeable 😂 she’s adorable & unintentionally hilarious !
You forgotten these girls were very young I never had boyfriends before so they didn't know what was normal
@personincognito3989 I was very naive at 16. And didn't have a boyfriend until then. But I think even then I would have realised that things were not right or normal.
Its nothing to do with experience .. its brain development
Still better than the actual males they could have been going around with who would have done far worse to them.
Sexual assault is always disgusting but especially when it’s a close friend manipulating them and forcing them into a same sex relationship by lying? It’s worse. What these poor girls went through they will never trust any one again. she should’ve gotten more time in prison she’s a predator
😂😂Now why would they never trust anyone again? They just have to make sure that the next one is a guy of course they'll trust people again!!
Wow I think Gemma is a lesbian and just didn't want to say. It's the weirdest story I have ever heard!
Shes a psychopath who also got off on deceiving them
I think Gemma identifies as a male.
Gemma also has autism and adhd although that is an explanation and not an excuse
@@capricornybulli have adhd and would never even consider doing this tf? so its not an explanation at all
@@capricornybull highly doubt she’s on the spectrum. More of a complex dissociative disorder.
😂😂😂😂 the toilet holding sick comment. She is fierce
This girl knew what she was doing, despite her autism and ADHD. She knew entirely what she was doing
Oh, you reckon she _knew what she was doing?_
Interesting theory.

Thank you so much for this. I myself am a victim of catfishing by a best friend (see one of my other comments on here) and the amount of victim blaming and lack of empathy I have seen on here is frankly disgusting. Thank you for your compassion.
I don't really think it's a lack of empathy. It's disbelief. I feel bad for these poor girls, but it's hard to wrap your head around it. I have seen people catfished from someone they never met before, but not from their friends.

"an absolute hero" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LOOOOLLLL
Everyone seems quite naive, but also quite vocal at the same time. Didn’t leave anyone to wonder about anything… no it’s all out there. Yikes.
Jessica is adorable. Her innocence ❤ Glad she was not manipulated by a trafficking ring.
I've never seen a girl her size trafficked. No offense.
Jessica does seem so sweet, I really hope she found a nice boyfriend who treats her well.
As for why, please realize that a psychopath just ENJOYS messing with people's minds and manipulating them, it is the only form of turn on they know. Gemma will always be a psychopath, she will con again, 100 percent!
Yeah it annoys the f out of me when people ask "why why?" when the perpetrator basically just thinks "why not?"
I desperately need to see pictures of her being these boys. I've been waiting this entire time. Why don't they show it?
I'm guessing she didn't take any photos while "in character" lol
I think there are pics around 10mins mark or so. Definitely before 15mins. Candid teenager pics..
I find this all very difficult to believe. Ridiculous.

Is Jessica a bit slow ..?
Definitely..
She does seem like she has some sort of special needs of some sort. I really can’t imagine how anyone could fall for this however inexperienced you were.
You know I was thinking the same! Something about the way she would talk when she was doing the interviews
Oh yeah.
She sure ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed
Worth remembering that these young vulnerable girls were conned & sexually assaulted by a very disturbed individual.
We can all speculate on what they shouldn’t/should have noticed or done, but that’s simply victim derogation at its worst.
They were children who shouldn’t have been put in this situation in the first place & it wasn’t their fault that they were.
Jess seems like she might have some differences that make her more vulnerable. But still… this is wild.
Definitely what I thought too.
She started living with her grandmother when she was 14 too. Wonder what happened to the parents. She may have been in an especially vulnerable spot

Exactly. She is nuts.
yeh, when she explained to her pal Connor was abusing her but 'then it would come out' that Connor had been at home & Luke had dressed up as Connor, come to her house as Connor (without her realising it was Luke no Connor) & assaulted her.

Learning disability? Gemma seems extremely smart and cunning. Imagine the logistics of pulling off this farce!
Deffo slow girls and a predator older girl. She wasn't even that smart just determined
Exactly,
one could possibly describe Gemma as a cunning linguist - at least when on line.
