We had an older one at our farm, in the half bath. Clogs were pretty common. And when it was windy in the right direction, all of the water would get sucked out of the bowl. Then you'd hear howling come from the toilet.
These toilets were originally introduced sometime around 1983 or the mid 1980s. In the 1990s, they went from using 3.5 gallons per flush to using 1.5 gallons per flush & and still flushed about just as well as the earlier 3.5 gallon variants. Although I’ve never been a huge fan of open rim toilets, these usually perform pretty well.
The earliest one I've seen is 1983 but they made a couple small design changes between then and these ones. Interestingly, these never actually used 3.5 gallons but instead, 1.5 or 1.6. Even in the '80s.
For an early 1.6 toilet it did rather well considering the competition were rather trash - took the washcloth easy and also the grocery bag but could not take them both together. Failed the large dishtowel as expected as the trapway is small. The flush test was alright as the bowl clearance is pretty good but the rinse could be improved as it missed a large spot at the back of the bowl. I do like open rim toilets as you may well know from living in the UK and also the flush handle being on the right hand side of the tank (as UK flush handle toilets are 95% on the right hand side - left hand ones are uncommon). This perfectly usable toilet gets a 7/10!
These are basically a knockoff of Crane Atlas toilets. The Crane Atlas had better quality like glazed tanks to the water line. Wish all toilet manufacturers would do that but unfortunately cutting costs is the name of the game nowadays

Someone has a video of a toilet howling during Hurricane Andrew.
Awesome! I watched ur channel recently again after years! Ur videos are amazing. Keep it up vro:D
I definitely will! Thanks!
Now that's probably the best mobile home toilet I've ever seen. ❤😂
And the tallest too!

It's pretty decent for what it is. I wonder why the right handles are more common in the UK and the left handles are more common here.
Flush: satisfying like a bathtub filling up 😉
Washcloth: Pass 😀
Grocery bag: Pass 😀
Washcloth and grocery bag: fail 😞
Attempt 2: fail 😞
Attempt 3: fail 😞
Attempt 4: fail 😞
Dishtowel: fail 😞
Dirt test: pretty good 😀
Attempt 2: fail 😞
Final rating: B+
I like it although it's not the best.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen a Universal-Rundle Athens with the flush handle on the right side of the tank.
I think I might have seen one before but this is definitely my first time getting one.
I had three of these in my old house. They weren’t bad but they weren’t very strong flushes.
I've heard mixed reviews on these.
I like these
I kind of like them
I love these toilets ❤
They're neat
This performed the same as my 1993 urc atlas
Surprising
Flush rating is a B+
Performance rating is a B
I like it although it's not the best

I think the Universal Rundle ones came first since Crane Plumbing bought them out sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's.
I have never seen a Crane Atlas with a glazed tank but I haven't noticed much difference in quality between the two.
Kinda looka like it has a small pointed siphon jet at bottom front of trapway. Does it or is that an illusion?
It's an illusion. These are entirely rim powered.
Mediocre flush for 1.6 gallons.
Yeah. This is a mid 90s design so at least they did better than most.
4:25 to 4:49 what was that??
I wish I knew
It’s 2024. Why are you still making these videos?
Just to annoy people like you who make stupid comments like this.
