Same. My elementary school classrooms had PC's in them, usually running 95 or NT, and they always had this screensaver enabled and I would just stare at it from across the room instead of paying attention 🤣
Basically the original backrooms. An infinite maze of low resolution bricks and orange carpet. Occasionally filled with entities such as a stock photo rodent.
It's nostalgic watching this, but at the same time kind of unsettling since these graphics tend to be used a lot in more recent horror games and just the idea of being trapped in this endless maze with seemingly nothing else kinda gets the imagination going wild.
@@samuelspace101 the original inspiration for the back rooms was the original, infamous image (which was a real image, taken of an indoor RC car place undergoing renovations)
Man this brings back memories. Never thought I'd get all nostalgic over a freaking screensaver. A simpler time, back before Microsoft started putting ads inside the Operating System.
I used to see this all the time on my primary school computers back when I was younger. I used to get entranced by it, it was just so cool and mysterious at the same time to my childlike mind. I loved it.
I'm so glad someone preserved this! I remember it running much slower, though. I found an old copy and installed it on my computer, only to see everything race by ridiculously fast. I'm playing this video at half-speed - now it looks how I remember it. :)
This doesn't feel authentic unless it's running at about 3 frames per second, just crawling through the maze due to underfunded computer school hardware.
Had this on my Windows 98 as a child. I loved to play with the settings to see all the screensavers, like the color pipes, floating computer components, or the water droplet drum. Set the video speed to 0.5, and the quality to 480p to get that early 2000s feel. I miss that era dearly, so I thank you for this video.
@@obsesstivereader21 The rats are harmless in this screensaver they just kinda walk around randomly and faze through your character if they walk into you. It's kinda like they have noclip on.
It took me over a decade to realize that it was a rat. I never looked too closely at it so I just thought it was a random brown blob they put in for whatever reason. It wasn't until last year I think that I happened on a video on yt about the maze, read the comments about a rat, was very confused, watched the video, and had an "OH, SO THAT'S WHAT THAT IS!!!!!!!!" moment. I'm still confused, because I don't get why they put a rat in there in the first place, but at least I know what it is now.
