- [Link in description] Check out this Monette Prana P4 trumpet we just got in on consignment! It's a medium weight horn, not as heavy as some Monettes but it has a little more heft to it than a conventional trumpet like an Adams A2. It does have some heavier trim elements as well, but not the heaviest by any means. There's a good balance to this horn and it's super fun to play!
Some of the design features to note with this instrument are the 5.3-inch bell (on the smaller side for Monette trumpets) and the really thick bell bead. The front brace position is reversed. The valves are either Getzen valves or early Monette valves, this horn is from around the period where Monette started making valves in house. We did measure the bore at .464"
Two Monette mouthpieces are included, and the horn is optimized to play best with Monette mouthpieces. I recorded this with the a Monette mouthpiece, although I do switch to one of my ACB acrylic rim mouthpieces partway through the video for my own comfort. Of course as always with these videos let us know in the comments which gear combinations you preferred and why!
There are a few signs of wear (primarily several dents), this is a pre-owned instrument, but overall it's in good shape and it's a good playing horn. You can check out all the photos (and pricing) over on our web store listing: www.austincust...

Great sound! I think this is the most balanced sound I've heard from you on a Monette. You're awesome!
Glad you like it!
As always ..... you sound great ! Your mpc is you !
Thank you kindly! It's a fun horn to play!
Better with your mp and this horn is the best I've heard you sound on!
You sound much better with your mouthpiece, IMO.
Thanks! I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the fact its much more conventional and I'm a conventional guy ;-)
To YOU personally, Adams A4 or this horn?
Coppernicus.
@@austincustom Enough said. :D
Don't get me wrong the A4 is a great horn but I personally feel so much better on the Coppernicus. It's like a well-made tailored suit for my playing.
@@austincustom and it looks gorgeous! I need to try one once ITG or another conference is in person.
Why did you stop playing your Monettes?
I found something that played better for me and worked better in trumpet sections.
A friend of mine auditioned for Disneyland using his Monet. They put him on the list and told him to bring his Bach next time.
Cannot imagine spending that much on a somewhat limited horn.
Cheaper than a violin or grand piano. Perspective.
Never played one so can’t attest to how they play but my wife stated it best. They all sound like there’s a wad of cotton wrapped around the bell. Or maybe it’s Dave’s massive ego. Sorry. Like the Carol Brass one you had the other day better.
I totally get where you're coming from. I think his horns are quite specific. they do some things very well... that being said I am very happy with my current collection! :)
As always ....... you sound great ! Your mpc is you !
