She said during one live performance, as she was taking her shoes off, that life is just better without shoes. She has said that she's always losing and leaving behind her shoes. I get the feeling that she grew up running around in the forests near her home barefoot.

Aurora is no pop star, she stransends even the most gifted vocalists, cares nothing for money, accolades, or fame, and writes her own music. She is a story teller, a healer, and just wants to make our world a better place.

Lots of people will recommend Murder Song. Lots of people will recommend Bowie covers. Lots of people will recommend Helvegen. And so on and so forth. What you actually want to watch is Aurora live in Nidarosdomen, performing Through the Eyes of a Child.

All the comments here are so true and I agree with all of them; her voice, her expression and her personality - so many aspects to love and embrace.
But there is one thing that I find doesn’t get the attention (the same in all other comments and reactions) are the LYRICS!
I considet her as a great poet even without the music.
This is what Aurora said when asked what se would liked to be remembered as:
    « a GENIOUS!»
And I find that her lyrics show just that.
Listening and paying attention to the lyrics, the depth of her words, her message, the hidden deep meanings that you have to uncover yourself.
I recommend everybody to also read the lyrics, the poetry, the genious poems.

I've been waiting for you to get to Aurora, great analysis and reaction. A quote from another concert:- "... life is better without shoes ...". I'll let other 'Warriors & Weirdos' fill in the details.
One of her best performances, for hearing the clarity of her voice, is the 'Live at The Current' in particular "It Happened Quiet", give it a listen:-

If you listen to several versions of the same song you will find that she does them differently every time. I think her singing and expressions are very connected to her current feelings.

I can't add much to what others have said, but Aurora is a singular talent with a very wide range of music. The common denominator is Aurora herself and the '5th element' quality she has. Once in a generation. You really can't go wrong with any of her music.

Her performance with Pomme in "Everything Matters" is simply amazing. Aurora has the voice on an actual anger. She is so so talented.

Just seeing how you like it at the beginning was very pleasing.
Connecting... is perhaps the key word to describe her. She connects to the earth (mother earth, the ground... that's part of not having shoes ^^), to people, to her warriors and weirdos... and of course to music.
To discover Aurora is to experience some pretty unique music... and a pretty fabulous person and soul.
And, if you melt into her music... you can't... not see and feel her... well, you've already started :)
I also really liked the way you shared your knowledge by giving us your analysis of this performance.
I really look forward to hearing your opinion of her other songs... none of them are "just average".

Aurora sang at London's Royal Albert Hall a few months ago as part of the Promotion for the BBC's nature series "Frozen Planet 2" scored by Hans Zimmer. She sang "Take me back home". Aurora's vocalizing is also heavily featured on most tracks of the official soundtrack of "Frozen Planet 2". I hope that you enjoy more Aurora, she has a vast catalog of music, interviews, live performances and documentaries on UA-cam.

She is just as expressive if not more in her performance of "Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)" from this same 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
If you really like to hear her voice, this pure a cappella performance is very beautiful almost magical with amazing harmonies. It is her own song "Though The Eyes Of A Child"

When it comes to her expressiveness, when you compare her live performances throughout the years (from 2014 at age 18 to today), she was more shy and holding back in this performance. That layer of ice has thawed since and now she really expresses even more. Every time I watch her, I am always feeling what she is singing. She has a way to tell her stories in not just words, but choice of tones, body movement, facial expression, at times with just a stare.
    I love her. :)

    What a lovely reaction!
Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 26 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, her videos are mini-masterpieces as well.
A short list of original songs:
Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video
Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift
It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well
    Churchyard - Live on KEXP
Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video
Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert
    Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert
Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert
The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert
The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020
Exist For Love - Music video,
    Daydreamer - Music video
She also does some awesome covers:
Life on Mars - David Bowie
    Believer - Imagine Dragons
God is a Woman - Ariana Grande
Across the Universe - John Lennon
    Teardrop - Massive Attack
    Rasputin - Boney M
And of course there is her latest album “The Gods we can Touch” which is pure gold!

Aurora Aksnes is a Norwegian singer/songwriter whose style reminds me of Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan an Irish musician, singer and songwriter who was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for The Cranberries. I enjoy all of Aurora's performances.

Aurora does have a beautiful voice, in a way she reminds me a bit of Sinead O’Connor when she was young.
Your reaction is spot on, but like someone else said you missed that her appearing to be a bit startled by the applause because she had forgotten she was singing to an audience!
She sings barefoot because she feels more grounded and secure like most of the others.

As a little girl in Norway she spent a lot of time alone in the forest with the animals day and night. She was terrified of performing at first but wanted to share her thoughts. Contrast this one with “Cure For Me.” She wrote it as a protest against conversion therapy practiced in some countries including her own to “cure” homosexuality. She’s bisexual and doesn’t keep her love from anyone. She dedicated her song “Heathens” at Rough Trade East, London, to “ the Mother who takes care of the people who aren’t welcome in heaven.”

You don’t mention if you are hearing Aurora 🧚for the first time or not but I completely understand you mentioning Peter Gabriel and his amazing song Solsbury Hill.
Aurora🧚, like Peter, is a one-of-a-kind artist who writes and produces her music, has an unbelievable stage presence and tells a story like no other. They both can write songs about the darkest of subjects but somehow still make it a positive experience.
I discovered Aurora 🧚in January 2020 and can say with conviction there is NO other artist I remember discovering so distinctly. (And I’m a lifelong music fan, nearly 60 years old so I’ve seen some great artists lol)
      I’m a huge Peter Gabriel fan and I’ve drawn a similar conclusion between Aurora’s 🧚music and Peter’s.
You’re the first person I’ve seen who’s made this connection, too. Aurora🧚 is a Genius Empath and I suspect Peter is also empathic. It goes without saying he’s also a genius.

@@gratefulpitnicker thanks for your reply. I am 66 and my love for all things Gabriel go back to 1970. I saw Gabriel with Genesis as far back as 1972 and all the PG / Genesis tours thereafter.
I've seen Aurora live on 3 occasions and, believe me I've seen all the great musicians live over the past 50 year, and Aurora ranks with the very best.
I discovered her on youtube summer 2018 while watching a Joanna Newsom live performance, I spotted in the side bar a thumbnail with the cool blue lighting of the Nidarosdomen and Aurora's eyes.
i sat transfixed for the full hour of her performance, at the end of which I felt completely overwhelmed to the point I was sweating and having palpitations. too much to take in.
my wife and kids are now all converts too!

    • @gratefulpitnicker

@@spibeson1 thanks for confirming what I had assumed, that you knew Aurora 🧚 already. She truly is an amazing artist and talent, and gives all her Warriors and Weirdos everything in her being! For such a small (tiny, as she says) person, she is MIGHTY.
Nidarosdomen is simply a masterpiece, through and through. The fact she wanted to perform there as a show of support for people who needed to know it's ok to not feel good at the (Christmas) holidays was a beautiful sentiment. This cause, too, is something I could envision Peter getting behind.
I, too, have introduced my children to her, and my daughter has great respect for her, while my son has yet to feel the magic. I'm sure he'll come around soon!

    Nice reaction 🤗
She wrote this song when she was 11 years old, and at that age she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song. But as she grew older she knew that home meant home to her parents 💕
It’s a very important song for her
She was quite nervous to sing in this concert, but she did an amazing job😊
Her movements this early in her career is different from now, when she saw herself performing she said it looked like she had a seizure or something
Now she’s more confident on stage, and she’s more aware of her movements
She’s truly the most unique, adorable and beautiful human being
She has also been an inspiration for Billie Eilish. Billie Eilish said in interviews:
“When I was 12, I saw Aurora’s ‘Runaway’ music video,” something inside me clicked, like, that is what I want to do, no matter whether it goes anywhere or not.”
She said basically the same thing on Saturday, on a video message, when Aurora won a Norwegian music award👍
Aurora just don’t like wearing shoes, and she often forget them😅
She also often stands on her tipi toes while singing😊
She’s a trained dancer, so I guess that has something to do with it 👍
Aurora is a Norwegian singer/songwriter/dancer and music producer
She plays instruments like piano, guitar, mandolin and harp
When she was 6 years old she found an old electric piano in the attic, she began writing music without lyrics at that age, and at the age of 9 she added English lyrics.
She wrote two songs that are on her first album when she was 9 years old 😳
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 14 years old, and she’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano🤗
    Could you please react to:
“Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017
Also one of her most important songs 😍
“A Potion For Love” live at VEVO
She released this performance in July this year 😍

An outstanding analysis Dr Marisan. This was the first of Aurora's three most amazing performances. May I suggest a song from each of the other two, as they highlight the versatility of both Aurora's presentation style and her song writing, as well as her artistic and creative development.. Firstly "Through The Eyes Of A Child" from the perfect Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral) concert of 2017, spoiler alert, you may need some tissues handy for this one (ua-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/v-deo.html). The second is "Daydreamer" featuring a smiling, dancing Aurora, the last song in the magical HAIK concert of 2019, which was filmed in the forest where Aurora played in her childhood, (ua-cam.com/video/XH-Pd8hYSoA/v-deo.html). I hope you can find the time to watch and enjoy them, even if they can't be part of your reaction agenda.

You've got her on first hearing. Yes, she is the song on so many of her performances. The exceptions are when she is clearly just enjoying herself, often she is "in" the audience and feeling their joy. The key is "Different". Her songs are all different, both to each other and every performance, so stick to live performances. Her lyrics are key as she clearly sees the world in a different way. Any song from her Nidarosdomen concert, it's a masterpiece but the other two from Nobel are very good.

It amazes me that people comment about performing without shoe's , I'm getting on in age but the first time i saw someone perform without shoes was in the 60s , it was Sandie Shaw and i think the song was Puppet on a string , lots of female singers performed shoeless from then on and maybe before. It might have had something to do with Stilletto shoe's lol.

The obvious suggestion is All Is Soft Inside from the 2018 KEXP (Reykjavik) set. It's not her best, but it is her magnum opus. I'd also recommend her cover of God Is A Woman (Ariana Grande) and the Vevo session live version of Exhale Inhale. These because of the amazing female duettists she works with, Silja Sol and Amalie Holt Kleive respectively.

If you liked this performance then you totally should look for more shows, her music clips and her music. Her songs are in this unique style - mostly slow, sometimes more melancholic, sometimes more happy, sometimes more cheerful and dancy...
And most importantly DO NOT SKIP her talking between live songs and possibly watch some interview with her. The more you know her, the more you love her. She is just absolute mythical creature (you'll get that soon, believe me) :)

I recommend you listen to Eivør Pálsdóttir, whatever... I personally recommend "Trodlabundin" (live) or "Falling Free" (live at theater)

Silly Dr. Marisan..."Life is just better without shoes!!" (everyone knows that!)
    (just teasing) Loved your reaction!
More Aurora, please! I'm sure you've gotten many excellent suggestions, might I put forth a couple of the more obscure ones? A nice energetic introduction to Aurora that includes a spoken introduction from Aurora herself about what this song means to her.

Another great fun song that doesn't come up very often from her 1st live television performance in America. Watch it, and I'll bet you anything that can't watch it without smiling!

You might have heard Aurora before without knowing it, if you saw the Disney movie "Frozen II". Aurora is singing the vocal of the "Northen Wind" calling to Elsa.
She is 26 today (19 in this performance) and already has 3 albums and 2 EPs released.
Aurora just doesn't like shoes, there is no story like with Angelina Jordan, she said in a show in 2018 "Life is better without shoes", I think it is about feeling grounded and like channeling the energy. She feels the music like almost no one else, and back here in 2015 she was very nervous and didn't actuallly like performing yet, she uses her ability to immerse completely in the music to "escape" from the scary crowd. Here are some quotes from her about it later in her career:

    - I really love your music, but seeing you live was really a big draw for me, you are very physical live, and you almost seem to transform yourself when you sing, when you can feel it.
    - Aurora: I know I use my hands a lot. I didn't know in the beginning that I did, and when I watched a video of myself for the first time, by mistake and I will never do that again I swear to myself, I was very terrified. I look like I'm possessed.
    - It is very endearing, and it's very authentic.... It just seems very natural.
    - Aurora: It feels nice, I think it is necessary. It's kind of like being asleep having a very strange dream, and you do things without even knowing it, and it would look very strange from the outside. I have so many emotions and opinions and words inside this tiny body, and I think every time I get the chance to get them out, and there is only like... and they all have to come out this tiny mouth, and I guess I just have to use every tool I have to help like the emotions come out alive my body I guess.
    youtu . be / gWa68W9sUC4&t=26m7s
"I think it took me about 2 years to enjoy being on stage, the first 2 years of doing quite big festivals and a lot of touring, I didn't even like it, cause it is not a natural thing for me to... I dunno, the attention thing is very strange.
But it has evolved a lot, I don't think I opened my eyes one time the first year, and I usually stood in one place, and I moved my hands a lot quite frantically, because I have so much energy when I sing, and I can feel like, you know. It comes from like a different place, like from the place of music, if it's....you know, this divine place. I get like, I get too much energy for my tiny human shape. I didn't really know what to do with it, so it kind of made me almost shake.
But NOW I know where to put it: Out... you know, to the people in the crowd, and my eyes are open and my hands are open, and it feels very good so it has evolved a lot."

Loving your reaction vids. I like watching to be introduced to musicians/singers I've never seen. But I'm disappointed that groups I watch are never reacted to. Am I so out of touch? LOL Anyway, how about reacting to The Voice by one of the singers of Celtic Woman... ua-cam.com/video/SdFHGFkyew4/v-deo.html ...or this incredible mezzo-soprano. I swear she can sing anything. Here with Jose Carreras doing an Italian/English cover of a 1991 hit by Diana Ross... ua-cam.com/video/z1YdDzv5HW8/v-deo.html

the music is inside her she doesn't need to show any part of body to be popular it's just her voice is far enough.
