This song was inspired by the novel, Northanger Abbey. This book was the fifth on my list of reading Jane Austen’s novels in order. Surprisingly, it became my favorite (after Pride and Prejudice.) I’ll admit, I was nervous going in because no one ever talks about this book. I wondered why. I still wonder why! It’s so good! From Jane Austen breaking the fourth wall to ghost stories and a charming love interest, how could you not enjoy it? I loved the theme of Jane breaking the fourth wall and telling us about her heroine. She makes the love of reading books a big theme in her story. Catherine Morland is a lover of novels. She dreams of being the heroine and longs to find her hero. She views everything through the lens of being a character in an incredible story. Throughout the story, other characters look down on her and derride her for her love of reading and imagination. “Life isn’t like the novels that you read.” However, there’s one man who encourages her imagination, Henry Tilney. I chose to use English Guitar in this song because it was used only by middle class families, and this is a middle class love story. Unlike the upper class Emma or the Gentlemen’s daughter Elizabeth, Catherine is from a large middle class family. Her idea of a happy ending is living in a cottage by a field of apple trees, a good book, and someone who encourages her to think. I think that’s my idea of a happy ending too. Throughout the story, Catherine holds fast to the idea that she will find her happy ending, whilst everyone around her loses their chances at theirs. Her best friend, Isabella, ruins her chance at love by not being able to decide between two guys. Her brother, James, is betrayed by the woman he loves. He writes to his sister during her stay at Northanger Abbey, signing the letter with the line, “Dearest Catherine, beware how you give your heart.”
“Oh! I am delighted with the book! I should like to spend my whole life in reading it.” -Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey, Chapter 6

You're an amazing talent, Amanda! It's been fun and exciting to see your growth and progression musically.
...Wow. Just...oh my gosh, WOW. This is the first song I've heard on this album, and I swear, this was SO worth the hype, Amanda! I've never seen this story- the only ones I remember seeing are Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma- but honestly? This song makes me want to read it so badly. Thank you so, so, so much for what you do. You're certainly more than amazing at it, and I know you always will be.
Thank YOU so much for the kind words :') That truly means a lot to me to hear that this song made you want to read the book! It was one of my favorites and I'm so glad I did it justice. Thank you for listening to my music and for being here
@@amandafaganofficial Hey, no problem, man!! Thank you so much again; this has been such a pleasure to listen to. Actually, since I posted that last comment, I listened to the majority of the album, and I gotta say- I see what you did on "A Game I Said I'd Never Play." Guess all that match-making with the dolls underneath the table came back to haunt her in the best of ways, didn't it? That was an awesome reference you made. >:DD
@@_rosiekake_8850 Haha thank you!! :D
@@amandafaganofficial No problemo!!
Congrats on 1k views 👏

This song pulls you in at the first pluck of that classical guitar. Truly amazing.

I love this ep! I especially love the themes of stories and happy endings in this one!
I love this song, I also love how you use the words to paint a picture and tell a story that people can relate to. I love the violin/viola it fits perfectly with the softness of the other instruments along with the words you’ve chosen. Please keep up the amazing work
