A cover of John Mayer's Vultures for an upcoming tutorial. This is the first time I've done one of these. People have asked for them before, I hope it's helpful when learning the song. I tried to zoom in on certain parts and always keep the interesting bits in the frame.
John Mayer has a unique and distinctive voice and it is HARD to do it justice in most of his songs without sounding like you are trying to fog up a mirror. I did the chorus in full voice because I could not do his amazing falsetto. His falsetto placement is too low for me except for the very highest parts.
Enjoy!

Dude your a legend, you make the best JM lessons on the Tube by far. Long live Mayer. I dont suppose hes ever tried reaching out to you?? Good job with the cover. You using Voicelive 3??
Nathan Reid As long as his lawyers don't I'll be fine with it ;-) That was with the Voicelive2, I've since upgraded to the 3 due to the addition of the USB recording features. Makes my life a bit easier..
Zartimus 😂😂😂😂
I am the the biggest John mayer admirer....
Zartimus : hold my Stratocaster
That was great man!! I knew you were a beast with the guitar, but you have an amazing voice too! Also, I hope you do a tutorial.
Jorge Piqueras no he has none bro...
Man you rock. Your voice sounds somewhat like David Byrne. Obviously meant as a compliment as the Talking Heads rock, as well as his other works. Well done man. John Mayer's music inspired me to pick up the guitar and your videos have helped make my dream come to life. Thank you a thousand times. I always check to see if you have a new video whenever I get on here. Please don't quit doing what you do!
Beast mode on!!! Great performance bro!
Admirable effort! Nicely done!
Great playing brother from a long time watcher! Trying to transpose that outro has been driving me nuts.... Can't wait for a lesson!
That was like the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer.

"HARD to do it justice in most of his songs without sounding like you are trying to fog up a mirror". Hahahahaha! Anyway, nice work as always man, looking forwards to the lesson.

You have a really good voice, it reminds me of the guitarist/Singer from Squeeze
Love it :D
Hey what amp has that presenting or did you preset yourself? If there was an amp that had a bunch of mayer songs with matching guitar models I would be onnnn it. Great job man...you've got it.
I learning queen of Califórnia with you! Obrigado! By Brazil!
Teach good love this on for US! Version l.a please
Amazing...neon(wtli) cover is next ;)
@TheMnJ22 I said cover not tutorial
You have a kind of smooth 80's voice, if you know what I mean. Not a bad thing, actually quite refreshing.
JM’s guitar teacher
👍👍👍大师
You're a boss
Jesus I’m impressed. Nice everything but love the falsetto man
Thanks, Falsetto I find hard because Mayer's falsetto is attainable in my full, so when I try do do his breathy falsetto, it's.. weird.. I may not be doing falsetto at all here I'd have to listen again) It may just be my full . I sometimes just do that but the softness of falsetto is probably more appropriate. John's got that great weird voice and limited range but what he does with it is magical and hard for others. Atmosphere for example. Who else can sing that like Mayer does? It's a song made for his voice.
Who is here in 2020 due to being bored?? And also because of this guys extraordinary voice!!
Lesson soon?
A M A Z I N G P L E A S E D O L E S S O N
John owes you for making such thorough and accurate lessons
Lol I meant to ask if you can do other tutorials?
I'm so pleasantly surprised that u can sing so well @zartimus
I took lessons, I encourage anyone who wants to to give it a try, find a good (non classical) vocal teacher with stage experience who has worked with a microphone, it makes all the difference.
please how did you get the vultures preset on the TC-HELICON VOICELIVE3 PLEASE THANKS
I sold it for the next model up ;-) I don't have that preset anymore ;-(
Holy shit dude. Amazing.
Awesome!
Monster...o.o
you are a fuckin legend
How does he sing the high in the chorus
How do you go about playing and singing these difficult things at the same time ???
I should do a video on that. Singing and playing at the same time. I could not do it a few years ago and taught myself. It's basically learning one so you can play it on auto pilot and focus on the weaker of the two skills (singing for me). I did exercises I made up like counting out loud as I played a measure, then changing the time signature. Tapping my foot and playing and singing gave me three things to worry about.
Now that you mention it I will definitely do a video on that because there were none to help me when I went looking ;-)
+Zartimus wow thanks man really appreciate that and I appreciate you replying to my comment you're a great teacher and a great talent !
Zartimus I'm way late to the comment obviously, but do you have any plans to do that video still? You already put in a ridiculous amount of work breaking down these tutorials but that's the exact reason I'd love to see something like this or just any guitar tutorial or tip videos at all. Such an amazing teacher.
what happened to your covered in rain tutorial?? did you take it down or something?
UA-cam took them down. The copyright owners of the "Any Given Thursday" DVD are kind of jerky about it ;-) I will re-upload in the coming months with the DVD footage removed.
You are pretty good singer. I had no idea lol. But the background was suck. You were awesome 😊
Can you make other covers?
Bro your singing is hilarious hahahahahaha Keep it up!
Hahaha yeah, since I started listening to Mayer my voice has become breathy as fuck. So many bad habits :)
Srsly though man you've basically taught me guitar from beginner to reasonable, and clearly not only are you a great teacher but also a very listenable singer. Would love to see more of these (I'm thinking maybe a bold as love cover w/ cheesy speech)
U should do your own music buddy! You’re voice is quite impressive, and your plying too, kudos!
Almost got it. Need a little more practice.
I think I’m the last one here 😭😭🖤
Yeah 😂
You are a great guitar player, but never sing again hahaha
