    The first channel I've watched with someone using their heads to conquer every day obstacles.A real woodsman you are.Not just a person with a lot of money playing outside.You've got a good head on your shoulders.I enjoy watching your cabin build progress.

    I just bought a 1949 8N tractor going to do the same thing with my firewood logs. Great video thanks.

    Fantastic job, you use your brain, to overcome obstacles. Most people would not have a clue, they are losing their common sense.
    I really admire your adept thinking.
    Good day sir, and dont get hurt. It can happen when you are working as hard as you do.

    Love your channel. This one though took me back in time. I remember when I was very young on my grandpa's farm he was pulling logs out of the woods with his mules and i was riding on the logs. Thank you for bringing back a memory from my childhood. Can't wait to see your next video.

      lol Believe me, I was holding my breath too! I put in a couple wedges at the end to keep the log from rolling off, but as you can see, the log almost rolled right past them.

    You could build some kind of skidder using a winch from an old boat trailer. It would probably be very cheap.

    Use a pickup truck hood from a junk yard as a skid for the front end of the log, which is chained to the hood, which is chained to the tractor.

    When tightening an anchor shackle, you should always loosen it one quarter to one half turn so you can get it off. It may make life easier for you. Let me know what you think. Keep up the great work.

    If you put your bottom logs the other way and then drag the logs across the front and drop them. Put a rope with two separated anchor points and the bite looped under the log in the center, attach your line there , up to the pulley and to the tractor. This way you get a mechanical advantage, the log rolls up onto the pile and the triangle configuration rolls it straight. Use your pulley tree as a backstop and trees on either side as anchor points. I have done it this way with just a come-a-long. For dragging your logs use an old car hood at the front, attach the drag chain to the hood hold down. Easier to drag and keeps them cleaner.

    Greetings from central Europe. Glad to see You again on work. As last time, I would like to give you only one small tip. It is easier to roll logs than drag them. just make one ending of under-logs sharp to ground and roll the upper logs on them. As they stay on ground, roll cabel around them few times, it will help rolling the log up on very steep climbs. Merry Christmas to whole YOur family, my friend!

    Dilligence and tenacity pay off. You could have perhaps supported the bottom logs on rocks or dug a furrow beneath them in the middle to minimize ground contact thereby reducing the vulnerable area of contact. Then again the rot will only permeate so far through the wood over a season so sacrificing part of two logs to save the others is a reasonable approach. All in all it's an innovative solution.
    I like that you have added removal of the axe from the stump at the end. Nice touch.

    • @TheOutsiderCabin
      @TheOutsiderCabin  7 років тому

      Thanks for the suggestion. The two bottom logs are pretty far gone anyway. I've counted them as sacrificial.

    If you wrap the cable or strap around the log, it will naturally roll when you pull with the tractor.

    You should set up a highline, you could move your logs around your lay down area and stack them easier or build a gin pole off your tractor to lift logs

  • @donaldhofman296
    @donaldhofman296 6 років тому

    You can use the front tires to push dozer style the logs around and save a lot of time!

  • @heartland96a
    @heartland96a 6 років тому

    so basically as with all home construction the goal is to build the most for the least cost , I m sure you are always looking for affordable used equipment, I would suggest a excavator or track hoe it would be your portable crane and give you the ability to move things without putting your self at as must risk as you are now, while you got the job done I m guessing much of the time you are alone not a good thing is you were to be trapped by a log. While they are not great at narrow gaps between trees , depending on the size of the unit ,they are capable of removing many things that might get in they way and help you improve access to your build site.

    Been watching your video's for a while and during this episode you stated that you wanted to get the logs to your camp to get them off the ground couldn't you just get them off the ground when you drop them other then that hope the family is doing well

  • @danamiller9080
    @danamiller9080 3 роки тому

    Try making one or two log dolly where you put the log on the dolly or dollies while you're in the woods then you're tractor pulls the log on the wheels of the dollies you won't get mud on the log. But washing it with the hose works too. The other idea is to make a skid plate so that you roll the log on to the skid tie it down or chain it down whatever fasten it to the skid then slide it out with your tractor and the skid gets muddy not the log.

  • @kathyanne3587

  • @radiat1on

    Build another (smaller) rock sled, ramp the log on the end of it and dog it down, now you're only dragging one end in (most) cases.

    Lots of ingenuity and good ole application of physics to get this job done. Is a front end loader available for your tractor? I am sure you'd find lots of use for a loader with a bucket and a set of pallet forks. ;-)

    Not to sound like a "Safety Sally" but the cable clamps you have on the cable are on wrong, the saddle portion of the clamps needs to be on the long side of the cable, as the old saying goes," Never saddle a dead horse",
