Literally one of the most underrated metal bands ever!! And this song is absolutely outstanding!! I'm going with Perfect Symmetry for my top album. I know it was a CD when it came out but I'm old and it's still albums!!!
@@flashyfrank5726 I view it to be the organic representation of the song in real time. As a beig, Ray won't always feel as he did when he tracked it. As a vocalist , myself, I can attest to this. And the human voice can be a fickle thing at times so Ray may not have been at 100% accessible range. So when he is able to still deliver the song from his heart, regardless of the condition of his voice, it just makes it incredibly beautiful to me. Some vocalists cannot pull that off, instead they hit sour notes insisting upon trying to make it as awesome as it was in the studio (If I give all of my voice to one song in the studio (which I often do), how can I be expected to sing 10 of those with the same intensity without running out of voice? That is why Ray is seasoned. He knows his voice and what he is able to do with it at any given time. ;) Impressive. Takes seasoning for that.
No I prefer the original the song it never even would have been composed if Ray sang with these vocal limitations in 1991. The original 1991 version is sang in a brilliant falsetto while the song performed 2000 and later is boring and disappointing.
This is an awesome performance. The band sounds tight. I think even though Ray can't hit the extreme high notes, like in Silent Cries, his voice still is amazing. I really love their new CD, "Theories of Flight." Awesome post. Thank you for sharing this. FATES FATES FATES FATES FATES FATES FATES!
@AcerbusCastus It happens with age. I can't hit the notes I used to. Geoff Tate can't do it. Geddy can't do it. As we age, our vocal chords just don't stretch like they did when they were young. That's the problem with setting the bar so high with great music like this when you're young. The only way to go is down... LOL. ;-)
One of the best songs ever. Shame his voice lost all of his higher range power. A live concert wont be the same wthout it... A have seen them live (At the SJIWA in Baarlo ages ago lol) when his voice was the best... Fates Rules....!!!!!

The stupid crowd is clapping and chanting AGAINST the tempo of the song. That makes it hard for the band to concentrate on the correct place to come in. I'm all for crowd participation but not in the way where it could fuck up the song...
