That's some first class tight drumming! And all serving the song and the other ones in the band. Respect from a fellow drummer
Love Davids hi-hat work, SOLID all the way around the kit.
Well said!
Precision
you got it. a lot of us professionals have sent love letters !
Love this drummer's perspective
I’m not a musician, but I was mesmerized by the drummer 😍
Feels so good! What a great touch on the hats...like butter! Thats magnificent drumming!
This song soothes the soul. So good.
That's not just "in the pocket" - that IS the pocket! Some fine stick work there, David.
Finally...drummer's perspective! Awesome groove AND snare sound!
Thanks
This must be one of the most sampled songs ever! old boz must of earned a fortune, great songs never go out of fashion.
I cant stop watching I think this is the most efficient drumming i have ever seen
Beautiful playing, David. Just tremendous.
Thank You Stefan
Canto Maravilhoso,e a batera é nota 1000
Tight and right
Awesome drumming
Man! SOLID groove. Damn straight right in the pocket. I LOVE your ride technique and that killer ride/hat crossover. Everyday you learn something. Today, you taught me a couple things.
Thanks for your kind words Rj!
I know what I'll be practicing
Yup, that cross ride/hat looks simple, but to maximum effect
Beautiful to watch you play... Not really a musician myself, but I can appreciate the skills demonstrated. I love concerts but this view point is a great way to listen to this song over and over again.
Hal Lewis thank you! ✌️❤️🥁
Two things: it’s really nice to actually watch the drummer play songs I actually enjoy AND you are a pleasure to watch, very nice! Learned some new chops too!
Thanks Kelly! You’re kind words are greatly appreciated! ✌️❤️🥁
Just watching this with a couple of other musicians around here in Belgium and this is pure heaven (especially for a bass player like me, you just want to make people play with you). Fantastic !
Lowprofile thank you so much for your kind words! ✌️❤️🥁
@@DavidNorthrup awesome play man!
This is how you lock in. And what a classic song!
Mesmerising 😍
It doesn't get better than this. Great work boys like a boss!
this is a lesson in "pocket" and embellish a little. i didn't hear a single thing that needed correction in the whole track. totally enjoyed this! #masterful #ninjalevelgroove
Thanks Steve! Seriously appreciate your very kind words! ✌️❤️🥁
Hi from Australia! Fantastic drumming. I'm a huge Boz Scaggs fan, disco, blues, it doesn't matter. Fabulous. Susan
timdlawson thank you! ✌️❤️🥁
Awesome drummer 😎 👍
David still listening to you you are so good love from Australia
awesome groove @david northrup !
Very nice work David....so smooth.
Hey Larry , Love this ... will pass it on to any of students as an incredible , FREE drum lesson from my friend David Northrup, Gretsch Drummer !
right hand workout. You are a monster David.
Incredible pocket. Love the consistency going from the hats to the ride bell. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You Frank! ✌️❤️🥁
I attended the Calgary concert last October......can't say enough about how much I enjoyed the entire show. I will never forget it and keep playing all the videos I find on UA-cam to take me back!!!
Thanks Joey! Glad to know you enjoyed the show! I think I might have some of the Calgary Show Posted as well! ✌️❤️🥁
Very nice work. Loved it! I've been playing 54 yrs and I'm always looking to better myself.
Thanks Edward
Appreciate your kind words. I’m based in Nashville, TN and teach privately. I also give Skype and FaceTime drum lessons as well if you’re ever interested! ✌️🥁
David Northrup I am interested in Skype or something like that. Of course your fee is ever so important, well worth it, but important?
Edward Sanchez $60 per hour, $100 for 2 hours.
Smoooth Operator behind this drum kit! Bad Azzy!
Thank you.
Nice!!
David. Thanks for being so musical and groovy . Jeff is surely dancing to your drumming.
You nailed it. Thank you.
Dont worry David i am not going to be annoying but I just love Bos and the way you play the drums
This is amazing. Talk about in the pocket. I have this image of Jeff, Mike and Joe Porcaro up in heaven looking down on you here smiling and dancing along. Boz would be a dream gig, thanks for letting us live vicariously though the vids dude! I love your feel and kit sounds awesome too btw.
Awesome! Doesn't get any better.
Thank You!!! ✌️❤️🥁
Fantabulous drumming technique! In the pocket, nothing overpowering, yet still technically funktastic. Damn this just makes me want to practice practice practice. Thank you Dave!
Thank You Kindly Eloy Garsez
The best grove...
Perfect....
So much if what came off the classic Silk Degrees album is heavy on the drum and bass for the legitimate reason that the album was recorded with two legends on those instruments. Mr. Northrop and Mr. Patterson were solidly up to the challenge. A joy to lesson to.
Silky smooth, brother. 👍
Thanks Rene Salazar
That was brilliant. My first set was a white Pearl Gretsch three piece with the ride symbol coming off the kick drum. I miss it. I had to Hock it years ago! My uncle gave it to me in high school back in the 80s.
Solid sticking, Sir. I’m a new fan
Rock. Solid.. take a bow david.
Awesome David... what a grove...just awesome...
Jeff Porcaro would thoroughly approve!!!
Thank You Joseph!
Was just thinking the same, think Jeff would have given that the seal of approval for sure!
Just quality
Bravo, my good man! Once again, after "Georgia", you've put a big smile on this old timers face. Rock on, brother!
Thank you James!
I LOVE Song drummers
Great job David !
I love Jeff! I can usually tell the difference between Jeff and any other drummer (except, maybe, Simon). I watched this and listened closely for something to criticize . . . I couldn't find a thing. Flawless! Excellent!! If I ever get caught up paying off my debt and have some extra cash, I definitely want a lesson or 20. Thanks for posting!
Nice n clean..
Loving that groove!
Thanks Kyle
Complimenti bravi
Spot on! Great to watch
I can hear Boz now....you're spiking!
Hahahahaha! Thanks!!!
Mercy!!! Gold!
Thanks Brice
It's so refreshing to see a drummer who is a true pro. Not trying to play single handed 16th on H.H. instead he realized his limitations and played HIS groove, smooth as butter and he did not try to be the great late Mr P.
So this sub gig came up and this song is in the list. Thanx for letting me peek over your shoulder. I hope you’re well & healthy..
El que grabó Este Video Está Loco!!!!!!
Love the alternating bell/hat pattern!
Towson Engsberg thanks!
@@DavidNorthrup as a drummer myself man you really groove and smooth as hmm i need more to practice more thanks
Pocket so deep there's no asking for change. 🔥
Thanks!!!
心地よいグルーブ❤
Brilliant
One of the coolest grooves. Saw you play this at your clinic in Ft. Wayne a couple years ago. I was impressed then but it's even better watching from this angle. Absolutely awesome! Very musical and really works with this song. Awesome pocket! Might just as well say it: PERFECT!
solid&concentration、like a poetry!
respect your drumming.
love from japan🙏
So good. Incredible pocket. Now I have to go back and listen to the original and figure out if this version is even better!
Thanks Al, you’re very kind. Porcaro’s is much better..... it was Porcaro!!! ✌️❤️🥁
Excellent!!!
Many thanks!
Many thanks!
Respect David much respect
In the pocket as it gets. Solid solid drumming. It's sometimes what you don't play that counts the most
Thank You!!!
I love your groove!:)
Thank You Eric!
Northrup!!! Hot.
Kevin Murphy thanks Murphy!
i dont usually leave comments, but THIS IS JUST SIMPLY TOXIC! LR altinating on the HiHat is smooth to its best! Great great drumming!
stunning . the friggin camera from the drummer ! this is why Jeff Porcaro was so well- regarded. He laid down the original drum track. the drummer here is playing it as well or better than porcaro. just gorgeous and while power and speed and solos make drummers " stars " , this is meat and potatoes drumming that reaches haute cusine. this is what they pay you for when you are a professional drummer.
Thank You for your very kind words! ✌️❤️🥁
Thanks for you kind words! ✌️❤️🥁
love you to. god bless. just came back to this and i send your work to all my amateur kit friends so they can see the real thing. To communicate with amateur drummers i created this analogy ... Imagine a professional restranteur who is interviewed about his star restaurant that he has created after 30 years in the business. the interviewer asks what is the most important thing in his incredible experience to create a great restaurant. he says " a good dishwasher ! " .... that my friend is a true professional. the drummer is the dishwasher ...@@DavidNorthrup

Dave Jeff would be proud. Nice work.
Thank You Steve!
Dave, I love your feel and your POCKET!
These videos are so nice to watch.
Thank you for posting these!
I wanted to ask, are you running any clicks at all? If so, what are you using for it? Also, what snare are you playing? I love the sound of it.
Youre so solid.
Thanks again!
Hi David, I very much like the “non-Porcaro” fills: the ones you’ve played during the solo’s/instrumental parts - specifically the one at 3:00!
David I hope you are still taking good care of those hands you are a very talented drummer
David is smooth on 🥁
DAVID hello Mr. Northrup. Im not to proud to admit it. I have played rewound played again 100 times. Just to catch your Smooth relaxed and everything timed to perfection. Ive watched many drummers with their style & technique. I just dig your high-hat counts with your switch up. Then back to tempo. Seeing you
improvise of switching to left to right then a quick stall . Do you do that to keep it interesting? Or it keeps you meraly tuned and sharp. ? Thank you. Tim Lewis.
Sounds like a hard song to play
That DRUMMER is so flippin TIGHT!
@David Northrup ... first ... I've watched and enjoyed many of your videos and, I'm still going through them. Thanks for posting these!
Second ... Is it possible to tell me how you get such great videos and sound ... all synced up so perfectly? What gear are you using and how do you connect it all?
KellyVisionPictures thanks! The video recording was done with a ZOOM H3... the audio was made from the monitor engineer... for the most part in these videos you’re hearing my monitor mix... an input from the monitor desk into the ZOOM recorder.
Thanks @@DavidNorthrup I've been thinking about one of those Zoom cameras.
How long did you work with Scaggs and why did you leave. Please!!!
Edward I toured with Boz all of 2017. I was hired just for that tour. It was a great opportunity with a fantastic band.
Lovely touch and great playing!
Can I ask what snare you're playing in this video?
mmwah 👌
What is the crash on your right side?
Fantastic drumming btw...
Let me share.
中澤修二 please do share
Thanks so much.
Where was this? The Crowfoot? The Theatre?
😍👌🏼
WERE IS BOZ?? JUST SEE DRUMER🙃😔😥
The drummer is the poster of the video.
Julieann Kuster
Boz is directly above Daves' ride cymbal.....I'd say 15-20 feet (~4.5-6.0 m) away. Just estimating on those distances.....rock on, Julieann! ✌️ 😎 ☯
Not to diminish the iconic Boz.....the focal point in this vid is the illustrious, spot on drumming of David Northrup....one of the most proficient drummers around...imho.
On my video you cant see box at ALL JUST the drummer..!!!
Boz he is shown on mine😢
@@dr.jamesolack8504 maybe on yours but not on mine NO BOZ just drummer💔😢
Human metronome
Thanks Matt! ✌️❤️🥁
No overplaying....
