Heroic/legendary likewise completely skipped the tutorial. I think the intention was for easy/normal to be the proper introduction, whereas higher difficulties wanted to get to the point faster, since you probably know what you're doing if you pick those difficulties.

Even with the abnormal bulk, it always felt like the arm armor was a glaringly missing piece, so it was great to see it return in Infinite. Hope that if/when Arbiter gets the spotlight again they can return it to something more like H2A.

They stop following you as soon as you grapple up a cliff. They don’t even show up for the final push in a vehicle convoy, leaving you pretty much with only the marines you take with you in a razorback. I hope the dlc makes better use of them
On Halo 3's Arbiter armour, that's actually just how tarnished silver really shines. It is more of a gold/bronze when the sun hits it, than what you'd expect of silver.
24:20 A correction: Jul never believed what he spoke. He was pulling a Palpatine and was actually pulling some strings on Halsey (he's the one who's talking to her on Infinity) in addition to riling up a Sangheili Jihad as revenge for his dead wife. Halo Reach's elites were so damn cool, man. Easily my favourite elites in the franchise, with CE coming in a close second. Infinite elites are pretty good though, probably even better than Halo 2A elites in terms of design

@@aceskeletonne7446 bro idk how people can keep praising the H2A design cuz those freaking hooves are the exact opposite of the feet a nimble and athletic warrior. Just look at how awkwardly they walk in the remastered cutscenes Infinite's adaptation of the flexible Reach feet works a lot better
The CE/H2's basic combat harnesss is perfection and no amount of stylish redesign, overdesign, and evolution can surpass the perfection of being Basic.
They had to be. Jason Jones and alot of Bungie employes had visioned that there would ONLY br just Halo CE and NO sequels/ prequels. M$ wanted otherwise for good, grey and bad reasons..
The squad of Elites, fighting the flood along side you, in the Quarantine zone, equipped with blue sentinel beams, Covie snipers, and Spankr were the best that there ever was.
As someone that loves Halo 4’s Elites, you did a good job at being unbiased when describing them. I appreciate that, I know that mustn’t have been easy for you! Great video bro, I enjoyed eatin my pizza to this!
The halo 4 elites weren't that bad even in terms of armor design. They had a good fit of being a more remnant faction of the covenant. I can compare this best to In star wars the first order doesn't look like a remnant faction of the empire, they just look like an upgraded version of the empire so I really like that halo 4 got that right about the armor designs for the halo 4 elites.
I think the Halo 4 Elites are really fun! When you view them as a more guerilla version of what came before, it's easier to view them for what they are! Plus I believe they make for great foes!
What I love about the elites across all halo games (except for halo 4 and 5) is that: Halo CE: because of their smart AI's that are, lean, fast, agile, aggressive, and combat skills during gameplay and their art style, colors of their ranks, and combat harness is fantastic. Halo 2: because they're much more detailed, they serve as allies when you play as the Arbiter, they can dual wield, they are more interactive to the environment like they can take cover when they have taken too much damage, they can hop on ledges, they can hijack vehicles, they can stealth kill unexpected enemies, and they also speak english for the first time which makes them relatable. Halo 3: because they fight along side with the humans. Halo Reach: because they are more intimating, menacing, very tall and imposing, and more alien, and they are very smart, fast, agile, cunning, and aggressive during gameplay just like halo CE, and they have really fantastic armor combat harness depending on their ranks. Halo infinite: because 343 finally learned their mistakes of over designing the elites from halo 4 and 5 and made the classic look of the elites from the bungie halo games like they made them look more lean, agile, sleek, smart, fast, and they made them look similar from halo 2 anniversary body wise and brought back the armor combat harness from halo reach.
Halo 2 elites rarely take cover even if their shields are down they stand in the open. Halo ce and reach had the best elites later 343 games( halo 4 and 5)dont even feel like "Elites".
@@thatrandomzealoth4 yep, even though elites do take cover rarely in halo 2 they are not as strong, tactical, and imposing as halo CE and reach elites like the elites in halo 2 and 3 defense, speed, and they run twice as slow than halo CE including the sword elites that makes them less threatening and more of a joke, but I still love those elites in halo 2 and 3 and I enjoy encountering them even as the Master Chief and the Arbiter. And yeah like you said halo 4 and 5 elites are the worst cause they have really horrible art style and they are way too bulky and clumsy even in cutscenes which made them look and behave like brutes. But thank goodness 343 brought back the classic look of the elites that we all know and loved since CE, 2, 3, and reach.
One thing that always sticks out to me about LNGs retrospectives is how great the directing he can extract from gameplay footage is! Love your work as always dude
I hope we see the evolution of Hunters next. Hunters used to be not too intimidating and more of a pushover, but Halo 5 and Halo Infinite truly perfected the Hunters to be more scary and challenging. We even have 2 classes in Infinite. The blue and the red officer. I wish the gold one in ODST was in Infinite.
I wouldn't say perfect. While hunters feel like a real threat in Infinite, they do feel a bit overtuned, with a huge amount of health and not many opportunities to hit them in the back. When they're together, the inability to get around them feels way too oppressive at times. Even a skewer doesn't do that much to them (from what I remember). I'm not saying power weapons should instakill them, but should feel a bit more rewarding to dump into them
@@ohno5507 Skewer I think 2-shots them, honestly, I think the Halo Infinite Hunters were really perfect, imo. It forced me to use the tools I've been given, namely, all the power-ups.
You have to use the grappleshot and target detector and thruster. Just play the campaign until you become comfortable with your tools, and then the hunters are a worthy but not unfair enemy.
I still think that the H4-H5 Era elites have a place in the sandbox. Would be cool to see them as "Fanatics" or some sort of dedicated heavy weapon wielder, lugging around a Plasma or scrap Cannon like it was nothing.
Tbh I could see that body design as an attempt at super-soldiers, trading some of the traditional Sangheili agility for considerably more raw strength.
@@venomousfrog5546 Yeah. I do really think the design can work, especially as a heavier enemy type. I like to imagine them as being armed to the teeth and equipped with gravity packs and thrusters for mobility. Imagine something like that charging at you with dual energy swords and having an insane amount of shields.
Only logical reason would be that they are Mdama's attempt at creating Sangheili ultrasupersoldiers (yeah, I got no other word). Still that wouldn't excuse Arby and SoS suddenly turning into the same shapes, or the ones in the Covenant invasion cutscene.
Or as older elites as they are reptiles. Giving them a trait Crocodiles and Alligators have of getting bigger the older they get would be a nice touch.
I always wondered why they got rid of those orange bulbs on the arms and legs after halo 2 I always thought it gave them a more alien flare (also I didn't know they were the sheild generators thats p cool)
@@tylerellis9097 they have lights that flash when shields are down in Reach but only for the multiplayer elites. They do in cutscenes because those use the player Spartan biped
Excellent video, infinite's elites are my absolute favorite. I remember the first time I encountered an elite ultra in campaign and was thrilled to see the classic reach armor in a more sleek design. Hope one day we get to play as them again
Seriously though, why don’t they just copy the customization from Reach and let the players use the campaign elite skins? Would not take that much work to implement playable elites if done this way.

What I love most about the elites is that "dark mirror" quality they have. They are for one the most dangerous enemies we regularly come up against, being roughly equivalent to humanities SPARTANs/player characters, but they are also in some ways the most similar to the culture of humanity in halos imagined future. like us they are brave, strong and heroic, with a deep sense of honor and a gritty determination. They feel so much so like the dark mirror of humans in this universe, a species that prides itself on its history and martial prowess. It's no wonder that after the Human Covenant War, they would become some of humanities strongest allies.
I’ve always felt like elites in multiplayer were just a little side thing added because of halo 2’s campaign and only kept because people expected it. But now I do think it would be cool to see the infinite elites and all their armor added to the multiplayer.
It was an experiment for the invasion game mode. Halo 2 originally was gonna have a more battlefield invasion type multiplayer mode instead of the arena one from CE, however this was ultimately cut since no one worked on it and the playable elites were just the leftovers from that.
@@EbagStudios No but the original idea for Elites in multiplayer was to have a battlefield type game mode for them where you’d have Spartans on one side backed by AI marines while the Elites were backed by Jackals or grunts, however this mode was cut and I guess instead of cutting out playable elites from multiplayer, they were left in.
@@EbagStudios Yup, they wanted to do something with the elites in a multiplayer environment similar to that but instead were used as customization/personalization for the player. The E3 halo 2 multiplayer reveal kinda hinted about invasion since they shown off both the Spartans and the Elites in it. Although Reach sadly doesn’t have any AI Allie’s fighting with you on either side, I still think invasion is done exceptionally well and where reach’s multiplayer plays the strongest aside from custom games.
Personally I love the halo CE and reach elites.. which is weird because they’re both so much different from each other. I can’t decide which ones I prefer, on one hand that slender design with the metallic shiny armour is iconic but I absolutely love the versatility of the reach armours. Everything from the rangers being used for Eva combat to the intimidating presence of an elite ultra with a concussion rifle was super memorable, even the iconic bob ranger elites that showed up and disappeared if they weren’t killed quick enough were interesting even if it was just a colour change with stronger shields.
No. No armor cores. That system should be erased from existence. Playable elites should be handled the way they were in Reach; a separate character that was limited to certain modes.
@@jackcolson4745 what I meant was that elites should have different customization like they did before and were able to play in all multiplayer modes. And they should implement elite exclusive only modes like invasion.
This is off topic, but it’s been annoying me for years. When Halo Reach was close to release, the official channel released a short video “How to Kill an Elite.” The video was about two minutes long and featured the player engaging in one-on-one combat with an elite in close quarters. The Elite’s ai was very impressive, dodging in and out of cover, reengaging the player at uncomfortably close distances. I believe that the Elite was finished off with a shotgun, but I am not entirely sure. I tried to find the video some time later (possibly even the same day), but the video appeared to have been taken down as quickly as it was uploaded. It would be so nice to see that video again, if only to know for sure that I hadn’t imagined it. I’m curious if anyone else remembers this? Anyways, great video!
seeing as halo is a product of inspiration from late 80s and 90s sci fi, which anime like akira, gundam and cowboy bebop had a massive influence on, its no wonder they took a lot design cues from them
man, the clips of the in game elites are beautiful, every game is so beautiful and i love seeing them with the depth of field also, i will always love the classic 'jet' elite helmet, it's perfect
I still remember the first time I ran into the Green-Swords, it scared me arguably worse then the Flood. It was tight corridors, you couldn't actually see them initially as they were invisible, all you would hear is an Elite and see the Green Sword charging at you, then right before they swinged (Which was almost always an insta-kill) they materialized.
@@greedyclown851 it's the most similar, most of the enemy designs are straight out of CE. Same with the sandbox design as it's the first Halo since CE to not have a designated utility weapon at spawn. CEs magnum was buffed in secret so it wasn't designed as a purposeful utility weapon. The world design is basically an expanded version of the second mission in CE.
@@daltonburroughs3811 I'm referring to style. halo 1 didn't have monkeys 'saying you weak I strong vanished blah blah blah' and had the flood. Which made it very foreign. Reach and 4 were closer in that sense. Even if it copied the 2nd mission it didn't with the rest, in which the rest of the franchise does fall in line with a lot. It copied the 2nd mission, but other games have snow levels, deserts or alien swamps by contrast, not anymore. Namely covenant themed levels aren't even possible because now their ENTIRE signature purple curvy technology doesn't even look theirs or even alien at all. It's pure metal blocks and shapes that can blend in with human or forerunner stuff. You can ocasionally tell it isn't due to stereotypical evil red accents. Their weapons especially took a toll with literal revolvers or harpoons, and the human weapons have very modern, non-2550 designs like the pistol, commando or shotgun wouldn't fit in line with CE's advanced, complex glowing guns. The marines are good but still from today, unlike CE's borderline robotic armors. Other huge difference is UNSC maps, in CE they look entirely other worldly and futuristic but now it's almost like they accidentally ported cs_italy. This breaks the science fiction atmosphere. And worst, cat ears and hologram flowers for spartans. You'll notice none of this points happen in 4/5 which should be enough proof that they were actually closer.
@@daltonburroughs3811 dafuk you talking about? •The Infinite Elites wear Reach Armor, •the Grunts have the Reach and H4-5 Backpacks, •the jackal have a new armor design with the chest from Halo 3, • the Brutes wear mostly 3 and Reach inspired armor. • The base hunters are similar to 4 with a new design • The Marines are again based on Reach Armor. What is CE? The Elites are slim, that’s it lol
One thing I noticed because of my experience With StarCraft prior to getting into Halo is how the Elites and the Protoss have a surprisingly similar look. Obviously there's differences between them (Elite mandibles and Protoss ponytails) but the digitigrade legs with two toes, the hands with two fingers and two thumbs, and that slender, graceful look in their early incarnations... I'm sure it's because they drew from similar inspirations, but it is interesting to see how people are drawn to similar concepts for their inhuman species.
Yeah, not to mention their noble warrior like personalities as well. Also, the 3 factions in StarCraft also inspired the factions in halo in my opinion. Terrans=Humans, which have Spartans who wear armor similar to the Terran marines, Protoss=Covenant, and the Zerg=Flood, as both are an all consuming species and seen as a threat to life by both Terrans/Humans and Protoss/Covenant. Also the Overmind=Gravemind
Honestly the Infinite Elites are my favorite. They are a combination of all that I love about Elites while having a very similar silhouette to the Halo 2 Elites.
I miss how detailed the older games were compared to the new games, they literally created new armor just for mining elites to immerse you into the game plus the environments were beautiful
It's crazy the contrast between miners and honor guards for example. I kinda wished H5 ir infinite did the same with the remnant covenant with their guerilla-lackluster armor and the true military with the arbiter wearing the classic elegant ones
The content value of this man's videos is just too good. He's great at adding suspense and intensity, and also has a tone that draws you into the topic.
it would've been really damn cool if we had gotten to see some of Halo 2 armors in the style and detail of Halo Reach, though it may have not made any sense lore-wise, maybe it would've made some good cosmetics for multiplayer
Your modding of Halo 2’s visuals are legitimately amazing and really emphasize how good the models of the game really are despite the less than stellar lighting.
Amazing video! Personally speaking, I found myself enjoying the insect inspired look of the elite armor in 4 and 5, but I can understand why people dislike it.
As someone who only really played the pc port of the first Halo back in the day these videos are always nifty to watch. Also as a long time Destiny player it's funny to see the key narrative points of the elites and humans of Halo and notice how similar it is to the relations between humans and the Eliskni.
4:10 thanks for mentioning the polygon bit. I had always assumed it was a special armour to distinguish the greatest warriors but I would never have realised how the devs attained the look. Fascinating really
The CE elites will always be my favorite design. I don't like how anniversary looks anymore, it's so visually busy it hurts my eyes and the reach elites in CE:A we're always hard to look at for me and focus on them.
6:38 sorry maybe you already said but how did you make the game look soooo smooth and good? Same goes for the Halo 1 footage, how do you make that thing?
What the guy above me said. Reshade with motion blur, ssao, color filters, and depth of field Also just wanna say. People are so quick to hate on motion blur, bloom, dof. But those are only tools that when used properly could enhance the presentation.
Just throwing it out there, I think it’d be cool af if elites with their shields up can’t stop won’t stop, but when their shields break, they shield themselves with their hand to signify that they’re playing on the defensive, being much more evasive, using cover more, and only shooting back intermittently until their shields recharge. It’s about the small details y’all

@@_MaZTeR_ Harvest would be cool, unfortunately I don't think 343 is capable of something so niche... Every game they've made has been very "broad audience" oriented.
That's probably why Halo hasn't been doing so well when it comes to it's story recently. 343 has been focusing WAY too much on Spartans. Even though they're everywhere now. Would be nice to see the return of playable Elites among other things. Here’s hoping 🤞🏼 Fantastic job on the video btw. Think Elites might be my favourite part of Halo 🤔
Halo 2's Sangheili are my favorite. Hands down. I don't even gotta think about it. They're exactly what Elites should be. They're tall, sleek, elegant, dignified. They're essentially alien samurai. 3 and onwards they become progressively more animalistic. 5 they're so bulky and clumsy looking. They're just dinosaurs that growl and roar.
Out of every Elite design, by far my all time favourites are Halo 2 Anniversary’s Campaign design and Halo Infinite. The armour is very sleek and their body types are perfect.
I love the concepts involved with Halo's designs where they make design changes based explicitly on how relatable they want them to be. It makes it feel like ALL the design changes are themselves just meant to be perceptual filters that you're seeing them through. The eyes? Either you're getting a good look at them and see a soulful orange with, or they're scowling at you and all you see are black voids. Their physique? Either their boisterous, honorable nature makes them look rounded and hearty, or their cunning brutality makes them look thin and harsh. The voice? Either they're doing their best to sound personable while talking to you, or are actively refusing to dignify your ears with something that could ever be humane.
The Halo 2 elites are my favorite in design, voice, gameplay, and story. Followed by Reach. My least favorite elite is halo 3. The design looks like a toy to me. And I hate the big throat guards added to the combat helmet. EDIT: 12:20 YEEEESSS
Currently playing through halo for the first time, I’m at Halo Reach now. Honestly Halo CE had the best Elite AI. They were much smarter than in Halo 2 and 3, which I though was really strange
I hope that once and if Infinite finally ya know gets a Second Wind or gets back in stride 343 eventually adds playable Elites back. I've heard people say a nice compromise would be to add some Fracture armor based on humans being part of the Covenant but ehhhhh. For me it'd be enough if they bring them back with a customization system like the one in Reach. I just want Elites back even if we barely get the same depth of customization as Spartans.

H2A, Infinite, and Reach are the best elites
And they’re seriously fun to play in MCC customs. Assassinations in reach being cool as hell does help too.
h2as elites were almost perfect, if it werent for their weird hooves, on the bottom on their feet its just a completely flat surface instead of having a groove to separate their toes, making them look really goofy if you spot it. infinite thankfully fixed that at least
@@aceskeletonne7446 bro idk how people can keep praising the H2A design cuz those freaking hooves are the exact opposite of the feet a nimble and athletic warrior. Just look at how awkwardly they walk in the remastered cutscenes

I think Reach, CE and Infinite are my faves
The CE/H2's basic combat harnesss is perfection and no amount of stylish redesign, overdesign, and evolution can surpass the perfection of being Basic.

As someone that loves Halo 4’s Elites, you did a good job at being unbiased when describing them. I appreciate that, I know that mustn’t have been easy for you! Great video bro, I enjoyed eatin my pizza to this!
It was a lot easier to do than I expected haha turns out “just enjoying halo” is quite easy!
Ofc u would like H4 elites, they look like chickens, basically dinosaurs xD
You don't need to be biased to know they are awful.
I think the Halo 4 Elites are really fun! When you view them as a more guerilla version of what came before, it's easier to view them for what they are! Plus I believe they make for great foes!
What I love about the elites across all halo games (except for halo 4 and 5) is that:
Halo CE: because of their smart AI's that are, lean, fast, agile, aggressive, and combat skills during gameplay and their art style, colors of their ranks, and combat harness is fantastic.
@@thatrandomzealoth4 Makes sense. The smarter Elites would've joined the Arbiter, the dumber ones joined the Covenant remnants.

A gold one? Bro where I’ve never seen or heard of it
I still think that the H4-H5 Era elites have a place in the sandbox.

Excellent video, infinite's elites are my absolute favorite.
I remember the first time I encountered an elite ultra in campaign and was thrilled to see the classic reach armor in a more sleek design.

@@CarvedStones really? You’d think they were left over from the campaign lol.
@@CarvedStones then I guess that’s where invasion in reach came from.
I personally love the Halo 3 elites. Their AI is really dumbed down, but they still have a very charming presentation, and I love their voice lines.

I always thought the elites had a very anime inspired appearance especially when looking at the concept art of what would become the final design.
seeing as halo is a product of inspiration from late 80s and 90s sci fi, which anime like akira, gundam and cowboy bebop had a massive influence on, its no wonder they took a lot design cues from them
man, the clips of the in game elites are beautiful, every game is so beautiful and i love seeing them with the depth of field
also, i will always love the classic 'jet' elite helmet, it's perfect
I like to think the arbiters use of medics stemmed from what he witnessed in crows nest
CE has my favorite art style and I absolutely love that Infinite returned to something similar
It's the most different from CE

All of these impressions have me wanting weapon impressions now 😫

I dont know you but Reach's Elites are just BEAUTIFUL. They are very responsive, challenging and terrifying.
Halo Reach elites had the best design of all, IMO
I miss how detailed the older games were compared to the new games, they literally created new armor just for mining elites to immerse you into the game plus the environments were beautiful
It's crazy the contrast between miners and honor guards for example. I kinda wished H5 ir infinite did the same with the remnant covenant with their guerilla-lackluster armor and the true military with the arbiter wearing the classic elegant ones

I once said this before I’ll say it again
Halo 3 elites were domesticated.
Thank god for a positive videos cuz my steps dads mom just passed away so I feel happy for this thanks mate
At least give us the Helioskrill armor.
41:11 I didn't know I needed Late Night Gaming elite, but now that it exists I can say I want more.
