thank you as a teacher myself I appreciate the clarity and completeness of your lessons - much better than others available on the same subjects I look forward to more of them
One of the best paper piecing tutorials that I have seen. Just one suggestion. Make sure that people know about right side up for first piece when fabric has two sides. I need that reminder myself.
I was guided through a simple small paper piecing project a few years ago and it came out very nice. I then followed the directions for cutting paper pieced blocks for an entire quilt; after watching this I think I would have been better off cutting the pieces 1" larger as you did; I'm having trouble already and I've only sewn 1, 2, and 3 - all unsuccessfully! Your clear video is a great help! Thanks so much.
I am fairly new to quilting and am watching all your UA-cam lessons. I don't normally comment on what I watch, however, I really must say that you are a phenomenal teacher. I now feel ready to try paper piecing - I never thought I would be brave enough. You have inspired me and filled me with confidence. Thank you so much!
WOW thank you so much - giving artist the confidence to try is the reason we do this. Thank you so much for your kind words. We will continue to keep you inspired.
I recently took a paper piecing class and was ready to pull my hair out. After watching your video, I feel confident that I can do this correctly. Thank you!!!!
I have wanted to learn paper piecing and have watched several tutorials. Yours is by far the best, clear concise directions without a lot of chatter about other things. Now to get started.
I am new to quilting and have come across several paper piecing videos. They have scared me to death! Yours is so good at taking it step by step and explaining all the little details. I may actually give it a try! Face my fear and just do it! Thank you so much!
I'm attending a beginners patchwork/quilting class [in the UK] learning different techniques, making a sampler quilt. Your video has helped me a huge amount today as I couldn't quite understand how to put it all together. Now I understand a lot more, so thank you so much. I'll keep watching !
I made a paper pieced wall hanging last year but no one explained the process as you did. All I could do was watch the person next to me and hope it made sense. I really want to do another paper pieced project so I searched for "how-to" videos. After viewing several, none compare to your point-by-point clear instructions and example. Thank you very much!
I'm a keen quilter but I have never done paper piecing as it always looked so complicated , but watching your video it has made me want to have a go. Thank you for such clear instructions on how to paper piece. Oh and I absolutely love that beautiful quilt you have hanging in the background. Maz
So happy to hear you say "remove paper". I tried both ways and my blocks came out wrong when I sewed 1/4" with paper on. Took it off and all went good.
LOVE!! I just recently learned to quilt the traditional way in a quilting 101 class and the points not matching up were driving me crazy. Some blocks were sewn and ripped many times in trying to match up those points. The instructor said not to worry about it because 'finished is better than perfect.' I was losing all interest in learning to quilt and felt I wasted my money for the class. Then I discovered 'foundation paper piecing!' This is exactly what I wanted to learn and I am so excited!! Thanks so much for doing these videos as they are a blessing to this 'new' quilting student.
I'm a beginner & you're correct. I always thought why not jut sew it in front. Too confusing. You are awsome. I wish I take classes from you. I'm trying to learn to quilt & you have answered so many questions on the how, Why, when, thank you. God bless you for sharing your knowledge.
Sorry for the delay in my response. I’m so glad you like to shows - and thanks for the encouragement! We are in the planning stages of getting the “Learning to Quilt” book published and I think that when it is ready by following it and the videos, many of your questions will be answered.God has blessed me in many ways, with the gift of teaching just being one! Best wishes and happy quilting!!!
I absolutely loved this and, of course, Part 1!!! I’ve made quilts and am frustrated when the pieces are not exact. This solves all my problems, and it looks like so much fun! Now I have to look for some patterns and get one of those 1/4” rulers!!! Thank you!
I am thrilled to have found your channel. Your videos that I have watched so far have been wonderful and very informative. I now can not wait to give paper piecing a try. Please keep up the great work !!!!!!
Thank you, this was so helpful and it was one of the best tutorials that I have watched. You made every step so clear and easy to understand:) I’m a fan !
I started using June Taylors spray starch. It never stays on iron or has white specks. I could not get a deep wrinkle out on a fabric even with Best Press. June Taylors got it out.
I didn't think I was interested in foundation paper piecing until I started hearing about the virtues of its precision, and saw some patterns on QuiltWorx.com. Its precision appeals to the OCD side of me. By the end of the previous video I had ordered a few supplies, and before the end of this video has added a bottle of Best Press to the list.
Great tutorial geared to my method of learning. I am working on my first paper piecing pattern right now I did freak when I saw you using your Oli$o to iron the spray starch. I assume any residue wipes away with a damp cloth?
I want to learn paper piecing so badly. Your video is pretty simple for me, although i will have to review it several times until i get the hang of it. I do have a question. What is the best paper for an old lady to start with that has bad eye site. I know there are lots, but really need an expert opinion on this. Thanks
Hi Nancy I never did paper piecing and I’m impressed how you teach very precise.I have a question please :Is it possible to trace a pattern from a book on a tissue paper and work on top of the tissue paper when sewing pieces of material together ?
Thanks for the tip about sizing with Mary Ellen's Best Press! I use it all the time. You're tip let's me take out the paper before sewing pieces together. That is frustrating and leaves paper tip pick out out.
So I guess you keep the paper on when spraying sizing on the block because it keeps the different colored patches within the block (that are sewn on the bias) from from stretching?
I am looking to improve my accuracy in piecing so love this tutorial. your teaching is very clear. but leaves me with one question. what is it about the pattern that helps you decide when and where to sew off the edge of the pattern?
Hi Tina, thanks! When you are doing a Paper Piecing design, when the lines of the design go off the edge i sew off, if the line in on the interior of the pattern i stop and/or start tat the line, not going past. Hope this helps - Nancy
I have never tried to Paper Piece, but will give it a go. Is the pattern for your very beautiful Quilt in the background for sale in your shop , Best regards from Denmark
Hello Marianne from Denmark!!! Thank you for watching - WOWthat quilt is my Learning to Quilt quilt - here is a link to our shop on the website www.onpoint-tv.comwww.onpoint-tv.com/shop/Keep in mind if you order the Ebook, there is no shipping - Yea!If you want the hard copy I can ship it to you in Denmark, I just don't know what it would cost so I would contact you.I just send one to the UK and it was $28.
When paper piecing a lot of the same block, do you do step one on all the blocks, then proceed to step 2 on all the blocks, or do you make one complete block at a time/
Hi Linda, generally i will do more than one at a time and chain piece them when i get to the outside pieces that i sew off the edge on. Hope this helps. Nancy
Hi Rosemary, thank you for watching!!The patterns are available on our website and they are all available as electronic versions :)www.onpoint-tv.com/shopNancy
Hello Katherine, technically any paper will work. Having a paper that you can see through like a velum is also helpful. THe quilt behind me is the Learning to Quilt sample - the corners are paper pieced. The book is available on our website www.onpoint-tv.com Thanks for watching - Nancy
Hi JoAnn - all of the Learning to Quilt pattern is available on our website www.onopoint-tv.com - you can purchase the full book or just a single lesson. Happy Quilting - Nancy
Hi Mary. I sew all the way off so that the seams are secured all the way around the edge of the block. if you stop at the edge of the design you seems can come out before you sew the block into the quilt top. Hope that helps?
I sew off on the seams at the edge of the pattern. If you do not when you trim the pattern and take the paper off you will see that the seams are not stitched down to the edge inside the seam allowance - trust me, you need to sew all the way off 😊 - Nancy
By far the most comprehensive explanation for paper piecing combining both videos. Clear, concise, repetitive. Perfect. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Finally, I understand what I'm doing. Your tutoring speaks clearly to me.❤️
Fabulous!
thank you as a teacher myself I appreciate the clarity and completeness of your lessons - much better than others available on the same subjects I look forward to more of them

Great tutorial and a great teacher.
I am new to quilting and have come across several paper piecing videos. They have scared me to death! Yours is so good at taking it step by step and explaining all the little details. I may actually give it a try! Face my fear and just do it! Thank you so much!
Thanks Lanelle :) - Nancy
I didn't think I'd like paper piecing, but I love the precision you can get. I'll try it! Thanks for the tutorial.
Once you try it, you'll probably want to do more!
Nancy thank you so much for your wonderful videos! Your quilting is so crisp and clean that you make it easy to learn..😷💕👐🏻

Oh, that's so nice to hear - that the video helped - not that you didn't understand. :) Thanks for watching!
Great video, the instructions are so clear! Thank you so much for sharing your talent ✂️✂️❤️
I watched several and found yours to be the best. Well explained. I am making my first PP quilt. UPDATE: Made several blocks and love it. Thank you.

I Love Paper Piecing
Me too!
great video. thank you.
saw #1 & #2 which were very clear & easy to understand maybe the best instructions on paper piecing. Wonder if she sells simple blocks?
This pattern is in my Learning to Quilt book on my website - www.onpoint-tv.com :)
I started using June Taylors spray starch. It never stays on iron or has white specks. I could not get a deep wrinkle out on a fabric even with Best Press. June Taylors got it out.

Hello Marthese, yes, but not all patterns can be paper pieces and I think the tissue paper might be too thin, that that would be worth a try. Nancy

Hi Barb, I copy my paper piece designs onto
Carol Doak's foundation paper - it is available at your local quilt shop and www.quilting-warehouse.com

Hi Rosemary, thank you for watching!!The patterns are available on our website and they are all available as electronic versions :)www.onpoint-tv.com/shopNancy
thank you, you made it very plain.
Hi, thanks a lot for the tutorial. It helped me a lot!
You're welcome! Glad to hear.
can you use any kind of thin paper that is see through. also the quilt behind you , Was it paper pieced?
Hello Katherine, technically any paper will work. Having a paper that you can see through like a velum is also helpful. THe quilt behind me is the Learning to Quilt sample - the corners are paper pieced. The book is available on our website www.onpoint-tv.com Thanks for watching - Nancy
How can I buy one of those irons please
where can I find the tulip quilt block pattern on your paper piecing video? thx
The patterns will all be available for purchase in the very near future - stay tuned. This tulip is a pattern on the Electric Quilt 7 program also.
I did not know that you take off the paper in the reverse order. Makes alot of cense !
Where can I get a little iron?
Dove trovo il libro con disegni grazie
aaaah, mystery revealed!
is there a concern about the ink bleeding when wetting fabric so much?
I've never had an issue with it.
What kind of paper is it
How do I get the tulip patters?
Hi JoAnn - all of the Learning to Quilt pattern is available on our website www.onopoint-tv.com - you can purchase the full book or just a single lesson.
Happy Quilting - Nancy
Where do i get the pattern?
The pattern is part of the Learning to Quilt pattern, but I got it from Electric Quilt program.
In part 1 I think I got it when you see all the way off; but I could not wrap my brain around why.
Hi Mary. I sew all the way off so that the seams are secured all the way around the edge of the block. if you stop at the edge of the design you seems can come out before you sew the block into the quilt top. Hope that helps?
Why do you sometimes saw off the pattern and others you dont. Please explain reason for this
I sew off on the seams at the edge of the pattern. If you do not when you trim the pattern and take the paper off you will see that the seams are not stitched down to the edge inside the seam allowance - trust me, you need to sew all the way off 😊 - Nancy
