Great tutorial, but word of caution. Freezer paper can only go through an inkjet printer. Do not put freezer paper into a laser printer.
Yes - I should have mentioned that! D'oh!
@@KateBerggren if it’s an inkjet printer yes. I wouldn’t put it through a laser printer. Inkjets apply ink without heating it. Laser printers fuse toner onto the paper with heat.
Such an important tip!
Great tutorial, this gives me confidence to try FPP. Thank you!
Gracias muy educativo. Voy a probarlo. Parece fácil, se que hay que probar. ❤❤❤❤❤
fantastic tutorial!!! thank you!
When I use freezer paper or bondaweb I place a piece of baking parchment over the work to protect the iron. This is a brilliant tutorial thank you for sharing this 👍❤️
Great tip!
Best FPP tutorial I’ve ever seen with freezer paper… and I’ve watched dozens! Most demonstrators do not provide such excellent explanations. For the first time I see the advantage to using freezer paper! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Great technique!
Outstanding demo! Freezer paper FPP is my absolute favorite way to paper piece.
Such great ideas! Thanks!
You are so welcome!
Loved your tutorial, am watching again
Wonderful! Thank you!!
I made the wife a 'light box', empty wine carton, plexiglass large enough to cover top & stay, small lamp. Plact lamp inside box, cut hole for cord, plug it in, lay pattern on top of plexiglass and freezer paper on top of pattern. Use ruler to keep lines straight. A little more prep work, useful when a printer is not in the picture. Put on some music and enjoy the process, she does.
DIY genius alert! Your wife must be loving the new light box setup.
Ok... gonna try it out. Thanks. You're my new favorite quilt content creator.❤❤
Wow, thank you!
This is so cool. I am a newer quilter, so I just love learning new ( new to me) techniques.
You demonstrate and explain very well. You make this seem easier than I expected. Thank you for sharing this with us.😊❤
You are so welcome!
You are such a good teacher. Love the fussy cut flower!
Thank you so much!
I never tried FPP, but I’ve used freezer paper to trace patterns for garments, just iron on fabric for cutting. Thanks for the paper link. I have never seen this before
Freezer paper can be used for SOOOO many things!
Great demo. Like the pace you use. Easy to understand.
Glad it was helpful!
Muchas gracias. Saludos desde México.
What a great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this tutorial. Great job!
😘😘😘
I never saw the need for paper piecing until now and just how simple it is to get perfect designs every time! I was planning to get some just for applique quilts and now that I've seen the benefits, I'll be buying freezer Paper in larger quantities now! Thank You, Becca!
I'm glad you found this helpful!
@@sewbecca Yes, thank you very much!
Wow Becca! That’s a very cool way to do FPP!! TY for sharing! I just love your teaching style!!
Thanks so much!
I love not having to change my stitch length. This is a great method, thansk for sharig it.
Same! And, not having to tear away the paper is fun, too!
Great video! I have heard about not using paper and was hesitant to try. After watching your video with great details, i think I can attempt it. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent tutorial! Keep up the good work😊
Thank you! 😊
Thank you! Great demonstration!
Lovely block tutorial Becca!
Dont we just love that freezer paper?!!!
I *love* freezer paper!!
Waw! At last I understand the FPP, THANKS A LOT! I want to make a dog’s face FPP for a 8” x 8” bag”s pocket. Can you please do one explanation like this one with a dog’s face? I will love to sew along with you. Pleeeeaaassseee!
Great tutorial. I've always wondered about using freezer paper
You should!
Really like FPP but haven't ever used freezer paper. Now I will give it a try. Thank!
You should!
Excellent. Love this idea. I hated peeling all that paper off.
Me too!
I can't wait to give this a go! I've always wanted to try it but thought it was a bit meh, too complicated but you explained it so clearly, I am super excited to do it! Thank you Becca ❤❤
You can do it!
Excellent demo, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
This helped a lot- thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
Great Tutorial, thanks for sharing.
You are welcome!
Oh, this would be an amazing way to make random scrappy patchwork in the shape of a clothing pattern too! Just cut out the shapes from this paper (well, several pieces of the paper, since it's not very wide) and then just fill it up from roughly the centre with fabric scraps. I'm planning to make a jacket in this way, and my initial thought was to just wing it until I have a big enough patchwork to cut to shape. This will enable me to pre-plan some shapes and fabric placements, and also limit waste!
Great idea!
I found EPP very confusing and daunting before your video. Your way of accomplishing this is so much more clear and makes so much more sense. Thank goodness you made this video or I may never have wanted to try this new skill. Thank you so much and my hope is that this method can be used for ALL projects with FPP. P.S. Your voice is so soothing that I could listen to you all day! I plan on watching all of your previous videos and can’t wait to learn new skills from you. 😊
Aww, thanks for the compliments Jane! My friend, Ian, is posting a more in-depth tutorial on FPP. Perhaps this video - combined with his (which launches this weekend) - will give you the courage to try FPP!
@@sewbecca I already have Ian on my calendar 📅 and we’re even in the same time zone, TX and WI. I love that you’re friends and I like watching both of you create, so when I saw that you both had FPP airing a few days apart, I knew they would compliment each other nicely. So sweet that you support each other and your channels. Thank you for your sweet reply. Keep doing what you do because you do it so well. From your beautiful smile to the talent down to the tips of your toes. Friends, Jane
Great tutorial, Becca!!!! Have never seen this FPP technique before!!
Maybe we can do a Freezer Paper FPP project this weekend!
@@sewbecca I have an unfinished FPP, but would welcome the opportunity to do one with you!
@@MaryTheCraftyPanda let’s do it! I have one on my bucket list - FPP weekend!
@@sewbecca you’re on!!!
Love freezer paper piecing
Me too - it's definitely my go to if I'm going to do some FPP!
Di from sister chicks sent me. I love this method. I will try for a future FPP project.
Great!
Love this! I absolutely hate ripping papers!
ME TOO!
Love the technique!
So glad!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
This is awesome for the easier blocks!! I love Fpp but hate ripping paper too!! Thanks Becca!! ❤️
Becca! This is a beautifully presented tutorial and I love the freezer paper FPP... hence FP FPP. Your sample even showed how you oculd fussy cut in placement of that first one. The colors and placement were perfect.
Great video, Becca! Thank you! I LOVE the flip-over pressing mat/ cutting mat you use. Did you glue these two things together? Or did you buy this somewhere? I love that you can just flip the pressing mat and you have your cutting mat right there! Any tips on how to make this or where to buy this?
Hi Pam! I bought the 'Press & Cut' mat from Martelli Notions!
Fascinating and really clear explanation. I am coveting your rotary cutter, where did you get it?
It's the Martelli rotary cutter - absolute game changer, highly recommend!
I have made a queen size Vintage Rose quilt, pattern by Judy N. with GREAT success. Lots of prep time but not the frustration of removing tiny bits of paper from seams. Using a perforating rotary blade to mark the fold lines makes folding each section super easy when sewing.
Thanks for sharing!
Great Video and tutorial. I'm new to quilting and I understood this and know I can do this following the methods you outlined. Love you workroom!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I'm not sure where i can find freezer paper (is it like greaseproof paper?) , but i think I like this way more than normal paper since there will be less waste and you can reuse it for upto 5/7 goes (I've heard)
TSP - Trim, Sew, Press 😃 Makes it so easy to remember the process. Thank you, great tutorial
Thanks for watching!
Excellent tutorial; thank you! Can you please link to the reversible mat and your trimming device please? They look like great tools for FPP!
I’ve been using freezer paper when doing pp. I just love it. I hate pulling off paper. I always glue fabric 1 or any very small sections.
Freezer Paper makes FPP that much more enjoyable!
Love your tutorial! If you have an 'edge foot" use that to ride right along the edge of the paper. So easy. Most machine brands have one. For Bernina its #10, #10C or #10D. Thank you for a great tutorial!
Great tip!
I'm so jealous of your sewing room! I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm trying to teach myself FPP. These are great tips.
Thank you! Wonderful demonstration.
Hi Becca I loved your tutorial. Im going to use freezer paper.
Since you aren't stitching on the line, does it change the size of the block when you are finished? Great tutorial on FPP, clear explanations. Thank you.
I am making a Storm at Sea quilt and want to use your Freezer Paper method. Do you know if that is a good idea? I feel like I will be able to move along faster with this quilt. Please advise!!!! Kiki Myers
I use freezer paper all the time. Just a note freezer paper is plastic coated not wax coated. I have a way to cut down on waste, just takes an extra step. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhh, plastic coated! Thanks!
Since you are cutting it down to 1/4 inch and then stitching, are you ending up with about an 1/8 inch seam?
Fantastic. I’m also very impressed with the professionalism of your videos. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
You are a great instructor, clear, concise, poised, step by step instructions.
Wow, thank you!
You can use a laser printer, you simply iron the top of the FP to a piece of regular paper and make sure it’s loaded into the printer so the top of the FP is print side up.
This is a great video for FPP. I’ve heard many people talk about it but never quite understood when it came to not stitching through the paper. My brain couldn’t grasp it without seeing it. It makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Really clever! Love how it’s reusable
Great tutorial. Sure looks easier than sewing on the paper and then having to get the paper off. Thanks. I loved the block. The fabric you picked was great.
Glad it was helpful!
I love freezer paper! Can use it several times before changing to a new one!
Yes you can! I did all 12 of my blocks for the Quiltmas quilt from ONE piece of freezer paper!
I have to agree. I will definitely do it this way. Great instructions. Excellent teacher.
Very good video Becca! Great tutorial!
One way to efficiently use fabric is to cut oversized pieces that fit comfortably within the allotted space + seam allowance. I use ~1/4-1/2" upsize. A corner clipper ruler is your friend as it cuts with seam allowances, and will help you size the triangle if you are uncomfortable with quilter's math. I find that a hot hemmer makes the perfect creasing tool. If you have one, give it a try.
Enjoyed this instructional video Becca! 😊thanks
Thanks 🙏🏻
Super helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for this great tutorial. I have not done any block building with paper. The precision looks amazing. What does FPP stand for?
FPP - foundation paper piecing!
Constructive criticism - Explain in the beginning what FPP stands for.
Thanks. Unfortunately, once the video is released it’s too late to edit. :( but, the title does say “foundation paper piecing (fpp)” - so maybe that’s helpful
To get less waste you could in this case also start with a smaller square, still covering the seam allowance and cut the triangles from squares divided diagonally. Interesting method!
Absolutely!
You're awesome!
Jenkins Viaduct
I enjoyed your video and have some paper pieced projects planned. Thanks
Wonderful!
I make templates for each section of the block 1/2" bigger, then cut out the fabric the size of the template so I don't waste a lot of fabric.
Great tip!!
Yes I bought a jigunda roll of freezer paper but lost the instructions. Now to pull the paper from on top of my pantry freezer and return it to my sewing room. 😃
Glad this was helpful!
I don't understand the importance of paper piecing when these same blocks are made without it, am I missing something?
I personally think paper piecing has its strength when you’re trying to build irregular blocks. The block are used in this video was an easy block that you could do without paper piecing just so I could demonstrate the technique. If I were making this block for an actual project, I probably would not use paper piecing and would just piece it traditionally.
Hi. Thanks for this tip. I've been looking but don't find the pattern for fpp that you print on the paper. Sorry if you said it and I missed it.
Hi Lida! Here's the link to the pattern I printed out - it's a free download! www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/economy-quilt-block.html (P.s. - this site has TONS of free FPP patterns for common blocks!)
Great idea but I'm a hand sewer already started EPP the old way wth template's really enjoying it can the freezer paper be done for handsewers thou ?
I think so! I've not really gotten into EPP, but I've seen people use it for EPP. They draw/print out their EPP shapes, and then cut them out. Then you have the EPP paper on the back of the fabric - putting the wax side to the back so when you 'baste' - you don't need the glue. Just be careful to apply the iron to ONLY the folded over fabric!
I’m a newbie to FPP and to your channel. You are an excellent teacher and I’m going to give this a try. Thank You Becca
You did a great job of explaining and demonstrating this process. Thank you!
Makes perfect sense. THANK YOU for the great tutorial❣️
Clear, concise directions. Great job as an instructor 👏
I appreciate that!
Brilliant!
Thank you for this tutorial. I just received a pkg of 6” sheets in the mail today!
❤
Not to ask a dumb question , but how do I know if I have ink jet versus laser?
Most home printers are ink jets.
If the printer's insides contain multiple ink cartridges with yellow, blue, red, and black circles, then your printer is an inkjet printer.
If your printer has a single long ink cartridge, then your printer is likely a laser printer.
Thanks!
Awesome.Thank you!P.S.Can you please put a link to the rotary cutter that you were using?I think it could help my joints in my wrist.Thank you🙂I’m going to try this asap🎉
Hi Michelle! the rotary cutter I'm using is from Martelli Notions. You can pick one up here: www.martellinotions.com/?Affiliate=sewbecca

Embrace the waste ❤️❤️😝 love it. It’s a mantra I need to adopt! Thanks Becca for another great video 😁
Thank you for this I bought two of these type patterns and didn't know how to start it.
You are so welcome!
My favorite way to fpp! No ripping away paper😊
Same here!
This is how I do it too! I’ve only tried simple blocks like a circle of geese. But I like this method better than sewing through the paper. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for showing this way Becca. This method makes sense to my brain.
Becca,
You demonstrated excellent how to use this method of building FPP blocks. However, for this particular block, I would use this method.
ua-cam.com/video/4Ih6xRXVtkE/v-deo.html
Yeah - I just wanted to grab a block that most people were already familiar with so I could show how to use the freezer paper. :)
@@sewbecca
And you did just that 👍
Merry Christmas dear 🎄❤️
@@gigiontube merry Christmas! Off to watch the video you shared!
What does FPP stand for? I'm very, very new sewing / quilting.
Foundation Paper Piecing. Essentially, you're assembling a block by placing fabric behind a piece of paper and sewing on the lines!
Thanks for asking this question. I had no idea what it was myself. I am quilter but I have never done any of this. I stop on this video because it was about quilting. Now it has me wanting to know more.
Wow! I had given up on the paper piecing idea a while ago. For some reason, I clicked on your tutorial for my nightmare subject today and voila - the solution! Thanks for taking the time to patiently show us your method and validate that there is more than one way to do things in this craft. Super duper!
Glad I could help!
❤❤❤
Great tutorial Becca, thanks so much for sharing. Never tried FPP, but on top of the list for the New Year.
