Hello cameraman...When Jay is pointing some detail out on the car, we want to see the detail, not Jay's face.
That detail gets covered in editing. Chances are they never got the shot, which is the DP's fault. So no shot, can't cut to it.
A Belgian with a French/Italian accent...Open shirt.. pointy black shoes.. charisma... one-off car made with high-tech materials... Supervillain.. This guy must be a supervillain.
Prt Eng French is one of the languages spoken in Belgium.
No Italian accent. He is a Belgian speaking French, one of the languages of Belgium.
Prt Eng you certainly sound like a superBitch, therefore you must be a superbitch! You sound like you want to sleep with the guy! Be a man, or at least sound like one! They are talking about a car for Christ sake.
Sad episode
@@syfields4294 be silent, sy
I really like how much Louis loves the car, he's all smiles and laughs in the car. A true car lover!
2:30 Jaay trying to convey that they (touring) have in fact done sweet fanny adams about building a car. All Touring has done is take an existing Maser, unbolt the panels and bolt on some others that fit over.
BUT they will take maximum dollars for it.
This is probably one of the most beautiful coachbuilt cars built in recent memory. Louis and his team did a phenomenal job putting this together, and congratulations to them and the cars' owners. They deserve it!
Its nice when the car manufacturer sends someone who knows something about the car.... I am looking at you aston Martin.
Dudes, let it go…
That Aston Martin woman was a diversity hire.
Haha.. 100% agreed..
How many examples of the failure of "Diversity" do you need?
He did miss some details. He was unsure about the Wheel size and engine size, But he's a designer his strong-suit is design language.
jay: i'm sure you formed these wheels from a design captured from a distant dream, forged from ore from the deepest most exotic mines in Italy?
guy: no, it's store bought.
What they say about leather is so true. Real natural leather has a mood setting feel/smell. Love the car. Great design. Ferrari-built, 4.7-liter V8!
Two observarions
That winged badge on the car is pure jewellery
The wing mirros came from the mk7 Golf
If you told me this was from 2003 I’d believe you!
Maybe back then it could be impressive
It's an ugly damn car. I don't know why anyone is impressed with these guys changing the interior and adjusting some lines in a body and changing the rims.
Do we not see people do this as SEMA every year?!
I'm sure most won't agree with me, but I think car design since 03 has gotten to be a bit overdone. Look at the new GM trucks for example, it's like the designers are trying too hard, personally I'd rather have an older more clean and simple design.
My first reaction at the beginning of the video was "I love that it's that early 2000's top gear review in it's heyday, one off look to it."
Agreed maybe an aston or jag
Looks like an early 2000’s concept car
Wow if we don't die in Y2K maybe it will make it to production
it gives out a 70's vibe
Yeah From Pontiac. 😂
Funny! Similar vibe, but like mid 90's concept car.
Oldsmobile Aurora
The day you do a video on the touring discovolante will be a great day.
discovolante🤔 please
THIS is a timeless beauty!
The Maserati Granturismo looks like one design team did the front, one the rear and they never talked to each other...
this car reminds me of the spyker C8 .. I know the engine lay out is different but those steel accents are very C8-ish .. nice upload jay
Well DUUUUH Spyker and Touring have the same approach to design.
When that engine started up in the garage, my cat....who was draped across my lap.....turned towards my computer screen with her ears perked up, and her eyes never left the screen for the rest of this episode.
Wow, astonishing design!! Timeless! Simple! I love the mustang charger headlights, and the medieval spikey front grill. Those ford fusion wheels look fantastic as well! Bellissimo!!!
I really like this guy. He's very invested in the design of this car and he's clearly under no misconceptions about what this car is and isn't. It isn't a fully modified vehicle to perform better or faster. This is 100% an object of style and fashion and as such it performs fantastically.
Louis took a car from 2018 to 2001. Time Machine.
Why so much hate? Granted there are couple of details I wish they didn't add (The strips on the hood & the aluminum on the roof), This car is STUNNINGLY beautiful! It has near perfect GT proportions and classy presence. I haven't clicked on a Jay Leno video this fast in a long time. Unfortunately, within the first few seconds, I realized it was based on Maserati. What a shame!! I'm sure I could pick a used gran Turismo for less than $10k over here, and it would still be money wasted. The problem is what Jay was asking and the guy wasted avoiding to answer truthfully; which is that a custom builder like this cannot create a unique car because of the regulations in place. I mean, you can see its a Maserati almost instantaneously, so they end up applying too much make up in a futile effort to distinguish themselves. Sad!
Uhhh less than 10k? Where do you live? The cheapest one i found in the states was $24k with 57k miles on cargurus. It had 5 owners, salvage history with 1 accident. Unless you are talking about the gransport from 2004ish.
OMG can you show the rear of the car?! A 30 min vid on the design of the car and I can’t get a single shot from behind?
If you looked not even 10 seconds in you can see the rear end at 0:08
I love Touring they did a rebody of an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizone, turning it into a beautiful modern interpretation of the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante. Jeremy Clarkson drove one on an episode of Top Gear. This car is fine art. and deserves a spot in a Art museum. Thanks.
The front lights look like they're off a mustang.
Sounds like it too
34:50 Ah I remember that Alfa, it was GORGEOUUUUS!!!
Love the interviews with the car designers. I learn so much that I can apply to my own work.
When the car started, I almost cried. I heavenly sound, a perfect compliment to this elegant design.
It's very nice, but I actually prefer the look of the stock Granturismo.
I DON'T KNOW, but not to raise the hood is just weird.
Jay might be getting too "artsy fartsy" for us gearheads.
Just send your son over he will know how to fix it
Not me, give me a Alfa Rameo QUADRIFOGLIO coupe and call it done. Currently the Alfa is 10 times better than the Mazzarati.
@@tinderinc LOL...thanks. It would be interesting to see what he would do with a Maserati. Probably end up with a blower through the hood :)
@@Johnnycdrums I bet there were legal reasons they didn't open the hood. There were names of another manufacturer all over the engine. Maserati doesnt want to be associated with it like that. It isn't a secret, but video and pictures is probably off limits. They need to machine there own engine and intake covers that are plain or rebranded.
this dude has to be a troll "Louis de Fabribeckers" = "lewis the fabricator"
..not exactly true.. his full name is Louis de Fabribeckers de Cortils de Gràce. Belgium nobility, distantly related to the royal family...chief designer at Touring...the name could be translated/interpreted as 'the blacksmith, son of the baker' in medieval times..
LOL
🤣
@@snorrehjoelquist7443 it is gracious of you to educate us who didn't know his full name. Thank you.
Mark from New York 👍😆
The passion in this little documentary...it's just so joyful. Lovely stuff.
That was a nice philosophical car design conversation about a very sophisticated product. The Touring Superleggera Company is the essence of Italian car Couture, building bespoke cars for billionaires and industrialists, very limited editions. You can see Mister de Fabribekkers in person each year on the lawn of the Villa d'este , when he presents the latest superleggera Model at the Concours d' Elegance at Cernobbio, Lake Como. You forgot to mention the name of this car model, which is called "Sciadipersia", and as it is the case with a lot of cars, it has so much more "Wow"factor and presence if standing in front of it. The Touring Superleggera car badge is , in my view, the coolest and most prestigious car badge ever.
I've watched this episode and read your comment several times. The subtlety in design is what makes this genius. While binary design meaning bold can be exciting, what separates the men from the boys is this subtle approach. While I'm unsure if I would every buy this car providing I had the funds and that it was available, it's a masterpiece.
Love the passion from these two enthusiasts.
LOL at the people complaining the car looks older than it is. THIS IS THE POINT! Touring is all about a classic almost retro look while still being modern. For those who prefer cookie cutter modern drivel there is always Corvettes, Camaros, the NSX, GTRs, AMGs etc. The people complaining must be the people who buys the 2019 Corvette ZR1 and thinks that body kit ricer tasteless aberration of an excess is cool.
wyxvt or maybe it is just ugly? Just because they design to look older doesn’t mean they need to make it look like a little kid designed it.
wyxvt charlatanese aside, the thing is hideous.
Drivel? What are you 103?
1betterthanyou1 I agree
Oh stop you don't have to put one design down to lift up another or you will be just like the people you are talking about.
This is the only place I can read comments sarcastic or not that are deemed entertaining as if in another world, I usually get upset and go away, here I just keep reading, understanding and laugh, I pause and read, then go back to the top and find its J's Garage where it all started.
Thanks, Jay, very enjoyable. Such an interesting video and such a gorgeous car, Bellissimo!
C pillar is indeed Citroën DS ish...
I am glad i was not the only one who spotted that.
Probably the best part of the design, really
or alpine 110 ish
I love Coachbuilders; There's Hope Yet!
It's a beautiful car, all the lines and forms flow together, so much emotion, again, it's beautiful.
Been learning French for a couple of years now at 60 years old. I'm American. My mother was Luxembourgoise French. Much fun hearing him speak English. Reminds me of my mother's accent.
What a beautiful car. I am happy to see that Touring Superleggara is still in business and the tradition of coach building is still in use.
Touring wasn't in business for almost 50 years. They're just trying to make it SEEM like it's the same company. Not even close.
@@aaardvarkkk At least they are trying.
This looks like a hot wheels concept car for James Bond
What I like very much about JL is the fact that he interacts with ANYBODY, nomather their background, the same way: open, interested and sharing his enthusiasm and appreciation.
I think many people can learn from this.
Having just sen this episode I regret not clicking on it sooner. My favorite, now. The brilliant designer and Jay love this car, love their jobs, and love the car world. The joy on the designer's face when Jay puts his foot in it is the same as when he watches Jay appreciate the design. Great episode, great guest. If they do a new model every year, please try to get him back as a regular.
Superleggera?
I wonder if they'll make me a
less expensive Mediocreleggera?
Goodenoughleggera
Yes it will be built on a 1989 Oldsmobile diesel car platform. Or Pontiac aztek platform
@@ReidHenderson And will only cost half a million dollars.
Averaggioleggera
I can afford a piecacrapaleggera.
Lovely engineering, kill the chrome and that aluminum piece behind the window
Dave Taylor looks like Oldsmobile had some B-pillars left over when they close up shop.
*this kind of thing puts a smile on my old face, i used to sit around doing drawings probably similar to what is required to make cars like this happen. i would take bits and pieces of cars that i liked or features of cars that i liked and combine them all into one drawing of a car and make it look similar to several different cars and then people would look at my drawings and some would see well this part is clearly from this car because of the way it swoops and connects here just like on such and such a car sometimes they would nail it spot on but more times than not they would get it dead wrong. either way it was completely entertaining to hear their responses and point out their opinions to me and sometimes their observations would even inspire other drawings. Maybe i was an undiscovered coach built designer of my era but unfortunately those days are long gone now. I haven't even looked at a drawing pencil in over 30 years now. I've got a case somewhere with all of my old drawings in it that i would do instead of my school work. maybe i should dig those out again and see if there is anything modern that comes close to my imagined drawings now*
What a pleasure ! Back to coachbuilders... This is an outstanding example. I love it
Anyone else's OCD kick in when Jay touched the window when opening the door? ARRGGHHHH
Yep that's a major no no you just dont do that and Jay being a car guy should know better
He ALWAYS has to touch, it's maddening. I bet he doesn't like people touching his cars.
no.
Coach built cars were elegant and beautiful, this looks garish with the gills on the front quarter panel and hood. The steel B pillar as well, it just isn’t simple. Not for me
The hood grill looks horrid, love the design of the back though
Absolutely beautiful from every curve . An instant modern classic. Jay was not the only one to see the DS similarity in the C pillar . I will be thinking about Car this all day now .
One of the best Jay Leno's garage I've ever seen. Jay is asking pretty interesting question for a change and Louis is charismatic and deploys some very endearing English.
im waiting for a review on ZZ Top's 33' Ford "Eliminator"
WTF !!!, 10:32 would be nice if we could see what jay is talking about !
so much of the side but like 1 second of the rear. i would fire the camera man.
what, so hes supposed to run around the other side. idiot.
What a wonderful, wonderful video! To hear the insights of all the details and effort that go into the design of a beautiful car like this. For a "car guy" like me, I found it very interesting to hear the thoughts of both Jay and the designer. A unique video that I really enjoyed! Thanks, Jay!!
The sound of this car is what dreams are made of!! ♡♡♡
That sound is magnificent 🤔
the GranTurismo V8 sound
agree 👍😎
Raw was my first thought. More US hotrod sound than European.
Usually when they do a coachbuild they also redesighn the exhaust or use aftermarket to not sound like the base car to make it sound more raw and louder.wich clearly is the case here
@@sjefs5513 the Grand Turismo sounds just like that when in sport mode. Maybe a touch softer but close
BMW should have looked at this before designing the new Z4.
why?... this is ugly...
Jay NO car review is complete without looking under the hood and to see the the structure of the car . Jay you truly dropped the ball on this one
Watch a Maserati GT video. Same engine.
Looks good and sounds amazing. I like the attention to detail and the high quality "fit and finish"
2018? Looks like it was designed in the early 90s.
I like it. Classy looking with a retro modern design but not a copy of something else. Not a fan of any of the Maserati's so for me this is a very nice improvement.
Stunning car that sounds awesome. Great to hear the insights into the design process, the clarification Louis gave on the wheel and wheel arch proportions being an example. Front on, the shape is a lot better than the original donor car.
Lovely video. More Louis required! He’s fantastic
That is a beautiful and amazing piece of engineering. Of course I'm speaking about Jay's wig.
Lol
😂...Well damn
Yes, almost "colonial" in appearance but with-out the excess curling and powder.
It's aesthetic takes from the past while also looking towards the future......brilliant.
A. Taylor jays all comedy right site
...hilariously agricultural!...
Early 2000's Aston Martin made a baby with a late 90's Jag.
That'd just be a DB7, surely. There's a reason people called them Jagton Martins. :)
What's cool about this episode in particular is how Jay enjoyed himself - breaking this car down with the dedigner. Very very cool.
Love the new start up and roll out for the test drives!!!! Visceral!
No look under the hood? Booooo
Hardly a look at the rear either. Thumbs down for me.
Look under the hood of a Gran Turismo. Same thing
It's a Maserati Gran turismo, nothing more...
@@DoodlezMusic "nothing more"?.... I'd like one ;-)... Designwise i like the original better... Then again, i like an mx5 too. No accounting for taste, i guess :-p
CGPacifica, yeah, that was a red flag. It probably means that something didn't look as good as it should have. Midway through the video Jay said "what else can we look at?" I said to myself "Open the hood and trunk, What are you hiding?"
It reminds me of a streetwalker pretending to be a Princess.
Art
Jay (right, right) Leno.
Thanks for sharing yeah yeah.
Awesome! I thoroughly enjoy seeing cars like this. And of course it would b lenos garage that gives us this opportunity. Looks.amazing and sounds even better.
You know it's a great design when you can spend an entire video just talking about not even a fraction of the design of the car.
The rest of the car is a Maserati GT. Look up that car if you wanna know the rest. He explained that in the first 5 mins.
WTF you talking about? The entire video WAS about the design.
I like their haircuts, but the front looks like a Tesla S, 1997 Aston of some sort, and some metal rods shoved on it
Funny you say it looks like Telsa. I believe the Tesla body designer is from Europe..
Just love Jay Leno's garage. You are such the consummate Car Guy. Such a treat for me being a total Car geek.
Great video! Turing coach builders is one of the last in the businesses. So much information.
Jay should sell those fancy blue shirts he’s always sportin.

Isn't the horse the Ferrari emblem?
I wish the Miata sounded that good..
Since you can't tell the difference between a Maserati and a Ferrari, your comment is worthless. Fumbduck.
Thanks Jay for providing this content !!!!
This was beautiful... Jay showed him so much love and they really got a chance to discuss DESIGN... I hope all of you guys out there around the world are slowly realizing that not all Americans are like on TV
Why can't you start showing more of your cars and Motorcycles.
Thanks, but no thanks.
That is a beautiful car, great to see Touring still doing what they do well.
Jay just can't get over those trunk grooves. lol love it
I agree , the stock Grand Turismo is a beautiful design, much more attractive than this.....a bit surprising that with 'Tourings' budget they come up with such a boring design...no offence but it's a project that looks overthought and underwhelming...mi scusi ma e la verita>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
yep, probably should be more creative.............
Does it have carbon FIBER rotors Jay? Oh wait Wilwood? Aren't they just great?!?

I look forward to These Videos, but this was the Worst Ever. The car is not that interesting... Just a Body kit...
Did I miss it or there wasn't a single word about this car's engine? that large and almost clear roof is perfect for California's sun, I am sure the AROMA from those leather seats would become suffocatingly pleasing to Jay, even with windows open!

It's not the future, nor is it the past or present.
The future is mommy cars that you can't drive
The future of cars, will be self driving so everyone can bury their face into their phones.
A lesson on design. What a beautiful car.
A lot of inspiration from the Maserati Bora (Giugiaro): exposed aluminum, front end. A lot from the Maserati Khamsin (Gandini) front hood "slats", wheel arches, Kamm tail, "like an arrow". Not sure who inspired the interior... As always, Jay did a great job. One of the things I am thankful for is the weekly Monday morning uploads on this channel. Happy Thanksgiving to Jay and all of his crew.
