The placement of the mirrors on the front fenders really make a difference and offer better angles over the ones placed near the A pillar. Hello Mr. Mat I am a car enthusiast living in Japan. Thank you for always praising Japanese cars I'm so happy you praised Century in this video Even from my Japanese point of view, that car is a strange car, and at the same time, I think it's a wonderful car. Japan's only 12-cylinder gasoline engine As you said, I think it would be very difficult to maintain in the UK. Even a car isn't cheap I think it's really hard to procure parts and repair. but i want you to ride The name of the car's color is also amazing. Its color is black, but it has names such as "Kamui" and "Eternal Black", and other colors besides black also have Japanese and English names. My favorite Century colors are "Zuiun" and "Dumire Blue Mica Metallic" It looks very beautiful when it gets wet in the rain with a light blue silver like the winter sky. Genuine wheels are hand carved Other than that, I want you to enjoy the comfort of the ride with the electric buttons and operation panel written in Japanese and the excessive quietness. If you want to ride, use the late model 6AT I'm looking forward to seeing you happily riding in that car.
Love that car. I first saw it on Throttle House when James Engelsman (who's also British) bought it and immediately fell in love with it. Would love to buy one of those for myself in the future.
These are brilliant. I have driven a couple of them here in New Zealand. They are way cheaper here. Around $ 12000 - $16000 for a good one. Matt I highly recommend you ..."go ahead" and buy one

I didn’t expect that from you Mat !! You’re such a cool guy I swear, this car is such a Japanese emblem, so special, I’m so happy you love it !! I CANNOT WAIT YOU GOT ONE !! By the way, this car represents so much things about Japanese culture, if I had one, I really wouldn’t know what to do with it… : On a side this is so emblematic of the highest class of the Japanese society, which is so special in this country, very hierarchical with a ton of codes I mean this is so representative of a big part of the very unique Japanese culture… I will feel very shameful to not respect that big aspect of the car by not keeping it perfectly stock… But on another side, I saw videos of car tuners artists who fully make a masterpiece 12 to 1 exhaust line perfectly balanced like an outstanding handmade brass instrument…….. WHO MAKE THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE A F1 FROM THE BEST V12 ERA… This is so CRAZY good !!!… How to find an answer between these two totally opposite mindsets, being a Century V12 owner ?!?….. The great thing about this car is that it has Japanese labels installed next to each switch. Japanese people prefer English labels simply because that is cool. And this car doesn't need that kind of cheesy coolness.

Love the car and love the owner. Seems like a cool guy, he's made all the right choices that I would make if I had that kind of money to throw at a car like this :)
Apart from the hideous wheels that don't do justice to the understated quality of the Century.
@@sbomorse I agree. although I wouldn't say they're 'hideous', they're oversized and clashes a bit with the character of the car.
@@sbomorse I like them..
@@sbomorse Nonsense. The wheels suit the car perfectly.
A guy where I live (small town New Zealand) has a black, de-chromed, lowered Century with blacked out windows and 19 inch alloys, it looks super cool.
I loved the three and a half years I lived in NZ, a lot of it was down togetting good cars fairly cheaply second hand from Japan. I had a Subaru Legacy twin turbo, my ex wife a VW Passat turbo. Brilliant cars. Solid. Loads of other great cars from Japan not available easily in Australia. Was devastated it wasn't worth me shipping the Legacy back to Perth.
I have seen a century in person once in The Netherlands on the Road. The car has a ton of presence. Love it.
What a brilliant car!! Glad that you are adding it to your collection.
Why are u glad? 🙃
@@ogabchemseddine1654 Because that may mean more content on this car.
@@ogabchemseddine1654 such a rare car. Having Matt reviewing it long term would just be awesome!!
Great car a bit more respect for other man’s cars would be nice (with your shoes on the leather etc.) otherwise great this item. Usually I am not a big fan of aftermarket wheels but these fit the car very nice looks like factory and is a tasteful upgrade. Look forward of the story of buying and importing a century i hope you will rust proof the car in a good manner because the UK climate with the salt and bad road conditions is very hard on cars rust / corrosion wise.
Exactly…Noticed how he pressed and open certain stuffs with force…I mean why not do it with a bit more care…Also absolutely hated it when he said Junction Produce sounds like a grocery store like WTF…If u dont know you ask the owner dont act like a dumb wit
@@Levinz999 Agree about being rough. I like Mat a lot but he's way to rough with things in his reviews that you'd never treat the car that way if it were yours.
JDM cars are better suited for UK rust
@@Levinz999 yeah exactly, in general you keep those comments for yourself, or say them if you know the other guy. And regardless, i wouldn't have said that on camera lol. But you do you i guess
And i also agree on the opening and pressing things with force, it annoys me, and doug does the same...
The only one who's very nice with everything is thetopher
@@oj7177 I notice TheTopher always slams the trunk tho. But I think he knows most cars can handle it.
His wheel choice fits the car very well. Perfect balance compliments the chrome.
The placement of the mirrors on the front fenders really make a difference and offer better angles over the ones placed near the A pillar. We had a Toyota Crown (Royal Saloon) back in the late 70s, early 80s (maybe?) in Hong Kong when I was in my early teens. It was very plush, quiet, comfortable, and always had a certain smell. I was too young to appreciate it more, and spent all of my time in the back seat. I think it must be hard to stay awake driving it as it's super comfy, especially with the aircon in the tropics.
Toyota 4AFE Engine 35 years later still no repairs and runs like a new car, Kichiro Toyoda Founded the best Car Company ever with the Kaizen Philosophy. The Meaning is Continuous Improvement.
Always knew i liked you Mat but having a Toyota Century on your channel is legendary. Such a special car. We will never see the likes of it again. I think the new century uses the V8 and is hybrid? I could be wrong on that i'm sure its a brilliant car but to drive this V12 is special.
PS if you are importing one you have to get the wool instead of the leather. The wool is actually seen as being the top trim level in Japan.
You see a few of these around in Melbourne, Australia. Absolutely gorgeous cars. I love the little touches, like the Century branded Walkman you get to dictate business notes and things like that, it’s all the quality little things that make this so amazing. The latest generation have a hybrid, so I’d go with the V12 😊 and as a few others have mentioned, the wool interior is the one to get over the leather
The generation III Century actually has the 5 litre V8 from Lexus coupled with a CVT and hybrid drivetrain.
And I guess most of their owners are Chinese 😂
you can tell Mat loves this car! the way he reviewed it you can tell
I winced every time Mat laid his hand on that beautiful car!
日本で走っていた日本製のセンチュリーにマットさんがゴキゲンでただただ嬉しい☺️
A great car but Matt in Asian culture putting your shoes on a seat like that is very rude and considered a sign of disrespect.
and also a complete lack of manners and culture
Good he’s not in Asia then, literally doesn’t matter
@@StanVanGundy1 the owners asian. It is good manners to show respect for people pertaining to their culture and have some cultural and emotional intelligence when interacting with people. Especially given the context that the owner is that of a Toyota Century - basic knowledge!
@@tariqtvproductionsIt’s not that deep buddy
the fact that they have made the rear door so shiny for people to use as a mirror for a meeting is fantastic
Matt in Australia there are about 17 for both the first and second generation the price range is from aud $20000 to $35000 this would be the best luxury car ever as you said it is better than an S Class and much more reliable and its a Toyota Century
They are 6-speed from 1/2005, and you can also get it with a column shifter, which is way edgier. I’d rather the wool seats too, not that the leather is bad.
Yes id go the 6-sp column shift version, having no gear lever just looks even weirder!
mat has to be the only person to go into the boot of a toyota century and come out alive
I drove a small car once which has a little sun visor above the rear view mirror. I always wonder why that isn't a standard part in all cars by now. You'll notice how often you need it when you have driven a car with it and then end up with one which doesn't have it, which is most cars tbh.
Audis do that, it's either a little flap, or a sunglasses compartment.
@@Manu-Official Which Audis? My A3 doesn’t
My old LS400 has one. I never fold it up.
Golf mk4 has that sunvisor.
@@Jaykae_t My Audi A4 B7 has this.
Love the Century, would take one in a heartbeat.
I love toyota. They really are the best engineers but rarely build something fun or crazy. When they do its a winner.
Big litter engine with a low horse power is what makes this car durable that can stand the test of time, it doesn't give the engine unnecessary stress.
Correct. Plus having a v12 putting out the same hp if it was a v8 aids in a much smoother ride, morons dont understand this.
Hello Mr. Mat
I am a car enthusiast living in Japan.
Thank you for always praising Japanese cars
I'm so happy you praised Century in this video
Even from my Japanese point of view, that car is a strange car, and at the same time, I think it's a wonderful car.
Japan's only 12-cylinder gasoline engine
As you said, I think it would be very difficult to maintain in the UK.
Even a car isn't cheap
I think it's really hard to procure parts and repair.
but i want you to ride
The name of the car's color is also amazing.
Its color is black, but it has names such as "Kamui" and "Eternal Black", and other colors besides black also have Japanese and English names.
My favorite Century colors are "Zuiun" and "Dumire Blue Mica Metallic"
It looks very beautiful when it gets wet in the rain with a light blue silver like the winter sky.
Genuine wheels are hand carved
Other than that, I want you to enjoy the comfort of the ride with the electric buttons and operation panel written in Japanese and the excessive quietness.
If you want to ride, use the late model 6AT
I'm looking forward to seeing you happily riding in that car.
Love that car. I first saw it on Throttle House when James Engelsman (who's also British) bought it and immediately fell in love with it. Would love to buy one of those for myself in the future.
was looking for this comment haha throttle house is awesome!!
@@shefakhairullah1569 yeah
These are brilliant. I have driven a couple of them here in New Zealand. They are way cheaper here. Around $ 12000 - $16000 for a good one.
Matt I highly recommend you ..."go ahead" and buy one
Do you know how to install that Apple CarPlay in that old original multimedia ?
We all had them aftermarket xenon’s/HIDs back in the day 😂😂😂 oh the memories!
The work that was put in the design of this masterpiece....
May look dated, but so does my VW estate, but keeps on going and drives almost as new. Have just bought a Bluetooth 12v cigarette adapter that lets you answer call and blah must without having to touch my phone. If you get into a accident with this beast and you will find out how strong a vehicle like this is.
Those wheels finish it off wonderfully. Excellent choice.
You’ll be happy with it! James at the popular Canadian motoring channel Throttle House bought one last year - though as I recall it was a ‘90s version - and featured it on the show. It’s essentially unchanged since introduced in the mid-70s.
Love it! Reminds me of my big old Lincoln Town Car, but with Japanese build quality!
The owner is such a lovely fella, so polite, I might have thrown you out of my car
21:20 The most luxurious smoke machine ever !
Bit heavy handed with his car Mat! Enjoyed the video.
This has to be one of the best cars ever made
Love rare cars. And a reliable Rolls is like a dream...
I can imagine how comfy the ride is and it's even kidnappers friendly
Top 3 best cars from Toyota:
1:GR Yaris
2:Century
3:Supra

What a lovely car, cool owner too. You definitely need to get one. Would be nice if you could document the process of buying a car from Japan too. Would be cool 👌
Very high quality of Japanese manufactring. Such a great car.
wow... a classic example of what a quality, luxurious, reliable car should look like
I've kinda been obsessed with these ever since I found out about the century in a carwow video a few years back. Would love to own one someday.
Absolutely magnificent cars, so special and unique. Definitely on my bucket list too Mat..
gotta love v12s I've seen too many huge cars with tiny engines
What a sleeper.
Looks boring on the outside to many non-car people, but looks retro, inside is beyond luxurious, the ride is soft, and the build quality is top of the line.
You should document the buying/ import process and getting fully operational.
You should find someone in russia with this car to review
James from Throttle House says "yes, buy it!"
Yes you should by but with a wool interior for the full Century experience
Hi,Mat-san.Thanks for introducing us to Century! You know that Century is a generation old, right? The new century only exists in Japan. Now that COVIT-19 is over, please come to Japan and review cool cars that you can only find in Japan! Alphard, Century, Orochi (Mitsuoka), Hiace, Probox, various Kei-cars, there are many interesting cars. I would love to see you review these cars. Come to Japan!
from a Japanese fan.
You fell for that? The plan is far from over friend
What a lovely example. The owner nailed the stance, imo, as it looks like it could have come from the factory this way. Very tasteful.
Even with a relatively complicated V12 and so many features inside, its amazing that it all still works, toyota reliability i guess, if this were a mercedes of this age and mileage, half of the interior features wouldnt even be working anymore
Period of time when even Toyota was making a V12 engine for street car.
10:56 from the video with Google Translate I could read on the top of the screen 目的地設定 = DESTINATION SETTING 16:18 I am reading something not even the most luxurious european cars have 口仆 = Mouth servant = I cannot be bothered to put the coffee cup to my mouth. JAMES, can you please help me?
Good job Mat, best budget luxury limusine.
😂🤣 Yes made for poor people on a budget!.....
@@alancrisp1582 That's right, Mat has a lot of good, but low-priced cars
Most important is that it’s reliable !
This reminded me of the lovely Jay Leno videos where he invites owners of unique cars and they have really detailed discussions on the features of their vehicle. Loved it. Go for it, Mat!
I didn’t expect that from you Mat !!
You’re such a cool guy I swear, this car is such a Japanese emblem, so special, I’m so happy you love it !!
I CANNOT WAIT YOU GOT ONE !!
By the way, this car represents so much things about Japanese culture, if I had one, I really wouldn’t know what to do with it… :
On a side this is so emblematic of the highest class of the Japanese society, which is so special in this country, very hierarchical with a ton of codes I mean this is so representative of a big part of the very unique Japanese culture… I will feel very shameful to not respect that big aspect of the car by not keeping it perfectly stock…
But on another side, I saw videos of car tuners artists who fully make a masterpiece 12 to 1 exhaust line perfectly balanced like an outstanding handmade brass instrument…….. WHO MAKE THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE A F1 FROM THE BEST V12 ERA… This is so CRAZY good !!!…
How to find an answer between these two totally opposite mindsets, being a Century V12 owner ?!?…..
(The answer “buy a LF-A” is forbidden 🙄)
The brilliant fold down passenger seat probably does well in a mild crash 😂.
yep. great way to separate yourself in half without going through surgery.
AND IM JAMES!
Yes mat, buy the century, or a lexus ls600h, JUST BUY IT
The great thing about this car is that it has Japanese labels installed next to each switch.
Japanese people prefer English labels simply because that is cool.
And this car doesn't need that kind of cheesy coolness.
I'm Japanese and really surprised to Century appears on his channel.
Century is famous for being ridden by Royals and prime ministers, but also it is quite popular among Yakuza leaders.
What happened to the Tesla you ordered?
🤔Come on, what do you think happened to it ?. It broke down before ìt left the show room!...
It melted in the sunshine....American plastics....
Carwow vs Throttle house Toyota Century cross country
What happened to the rear wheels?
They have WAY too much camber, did he seriously stance a Century?🤮
All is top notch with this car, except the leather seats. They are not squishy noisy, but personally I think only wool seats are the best option.
The engineering in that car is amazing. Pure quality.
What a beautiful ride - reminds me of the Bentley with the full length umbrellas in the passenger doors
この車最高!This car was created and built way ahead of its time, a masterpiece of Japanese engineering. Such functions are still rare even in current expensive cars.
I'm Japanese and very impressed to see Century in UK!
You should buy one. I owned one for 3 years and now that I'm letting go is sad. Great cars and I think thr most reliable v12 on the market. Apart from normal mantenience off a 1997 car. No issues.
This car is also used to chauffeur senior Yakuza members around too, ofc there won't be an inner release in the boot haha!
I want one. Rode in one in Japan last November, loved it.
usually I'm quite sceptical when it comes to aftermarket wheels on non-tuner cars but i gotta say, those wheels just work on that car!
