    Finally a positive review of the bikes that I have put over 5,000 miles on of 50/50 riding in Colorado. Anyone who says this bike is not capable off road simply doesn't know how to ride off road.

      Mark Jacobs, have you ridden it on trails or mostly back roads (unpaved, etc). Comparing it to my heavily modded KTM 890 Adventure R and would love some input. Any BDR’s in Colorado? I’m looking to get one of the Tiger’s and love this new adventure rally pro version in the matte green

    What I like about Steve is that you know from his experience racing a 1200 XE that he actually does know how to handle a big bike off road and really push it to the limit, so his evaluation has credibility.

    Great to see you back again. Thanks for the review - given your history with the 800, your words on the bike carry a great deal more weight than the others. I'm still happy with my '18 Xca which remains the best bike that I've owned or ridden. I'll just continue to *not* ride a new 900 and call well enough alone. Whew, I'm tired.

    As always, really enjoyable video. I was actually unaware of the rake angle topic. Great to know. These Tigers have always seemed like the best jack of all trades ADV. All of its competitors tend to focus in on being the best in one aspect while the Tiger went for everything. I dig em.
    Also, I had an opportunity to sit on a KTM 890R Rally last week and laughed because I was able to do that before I even saw a friggin T7. Never would’ve guessed that would happen. Thanks again for the vids.

    • @steve_kamrad5216
      @steve_kamrad5216  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah the rake angle is still just too steep. The rear should also have a 18 inch wheel but that's triumph trying to be the best on the street

    • @jaronard1
      @jaronard1 3 роки тому +2

      The steep rake on my ‘18 xCA just makes me do a lot more work in more gnarly stuff. The rake angle is actually a top 3 reason I’m looking at the 890R, others being the brakes (which are pretty terrible), and the top heavy feel.

    • @inthesupernovashadow
      @inthesupernovashadow 3 роки тому

      @@jaronard1 I keep eyeballing the 890Rs but have seen REALLY good deals on some used F850GSs and some leftover Scrambler 1200s (if that’s anyone’s thing). Every bike has their quirks, but I was surprised to see the number of weird leaks and breaks on KTM 790Rs. Even some known you tubers saw issues. My local shop has 890s right now and the temptation is high.

    Awesome review, I'm stepping away from the HD world a bit at considering the tiger. Torn between the GT pro or Rally Pro. GT fits me better. Plan on some touring and getting back into motocamping. At 62 yrs of age I dont plan on aggressive dirt riding. Have you reviewed the GT and any thoughts on its abilities to handle moderate off road or is it too road biased.
    Thanks

    Hi Steve, nice and fun review! I did already see a lot of it at ADV pulse I guess, but this was more fun to see. Good job sharing it!
    Question: you were comparing the Tiger 900 with the 800 sometimes, but was it with the old 2011-2014 (gen 1), the 2015-2017 (gen 2) or the latest 2018-2020 model (gen 3), because over the years the 800 transformed quite a lot as in, electronics, riding modes, suspension, braking, shorter first gear, etc.
    I recently upgraded from a 2015 gen 2 XCx to a 2018 gen 3 XCa, mostly because it had lesser km/miles and had newer gadgets (heated seats, digital dash, better brakes, etc.). The 900 also was way to expensive for me (with the cases and other accessories), and for my kind of riding which is around 80% road and 20% offroad (quite a newbie in offroad riding) the latest 800 is perfect I guess.
    But does a beginner feel the difference between the new 900 and the latest 800? Maybe in a couple of years the 900 is the next one for me. But maybe the GS will win, you'll never know. 😁

    • @steve_kamrad5216
      @steve_kamrad5216  3 роки тому +1

      Comparisons to older 800s span all 3 gets. You know you have the best 800 but the 900 is only way better in the brake department. Everything else is nominal upgrades for 80% road riding. The 900 is a touch smaller which is nice. The commentary is actually a different take than rge adv pulse video so it is actually different but same

    Hi Steve, I'm looking at a new ADV bike in the next month or so. Ive got 3 mates that have T7's and 1 has a 850 GSA so I can extensivly ride those before I test the 2020 Africa Twin.
    My questions is, when you're comparing this bike to the Africa Twin, were you referring to old model or the new 2020 model?

    • @steve_kamrad5216
      @steve_kamrad5216  3 роки тому +2

      Both. The AT is a really well laid out cheater bike. Think 1000 or 1100 motor stuffed in a 800cc package but also detuned, I like the idea of the T7 if your mates have em too. Troubleshooting and parts and tools will all be interchangeable

Quick question; on the regular rally, would you know if pulling the ABS fuse will essentially turn it into off-road-pro mode? According to the manual it should disable ABS and TC completely. Hi Steve, with the reviews and walk arounds I saw of the new 900 it seems like I noticed a fault which Triumph also made with the gen 1 in 2011. They didn't build in a rear shock protector.
    With my 2015 XCx gen 2 en 2018 XCa gen 3 Tiger 800's they were covered as they saw that it wasn't good. They fixed it at the time for the gen 2 en gen 3.
    But here again it looks like they left to much space between the mudguard and the swingarm so dirt can hit the rear shock.
    With some other guy's 900 I thought it was maybe because it was on the centre stand but with your bike it isn't and I see that the rear shock will be full of mud with the 900. What do you think of that? Fault or not so terrible? 😁

    Steve, now that I actually have the bike: triumph in the manual for off-road recommends to bump pre-load on the fork all the way up while decreasing the preload on the rear suspension to the minimum (I haven't tried that yet). The owners manual indicates you're supposed to dial in the suspension in for offroad riding by dialing the front spring preload to max on the forks and dial the spring preload back on the rear which gets the rake to around 27deg. ua-cam.com/video/HimQEfDbnHw/v-deo.html

    This bike or the BMW 850 Adventure? I would say my riding would be ~40/60 off-road/street. My off-road riding isn't anything insane, but the dirt roads I will be riding on can be a little rough/loose/rocky in places. I plan to do some riding in southern Utah (so some sand). Thoughts? I know the BMW is a very capable road machine, but I worry about the weight (should mention I'm a newbie to off-road biking).

    • @steve_kamrad5216

      Get the tiger, 100% beast on the street. Set the forks on the tiger flush with the triple trees and dial in about 4 millimeters of preload on the rear and the bike handles mud or sand much better than stock also 35 extra cc's of fork in each leg helps a bunch too

    Awesome review, very complete and useful information
    I did a test ride and couldn't get on with the ergonomics of the chasis/ tank. There was a protection sticking out from the chasis making my legs uncomfortable when trying to hold the bike off road or spirited riding tarmac.
    I felt the suspension a bit worst for riding fast than the WP, too plush but much more comfortable for broken terrain.

Go up 2 spring rates in the front no matter what they recommend paired with the rear spring. Or go down on the rear spring a bit. Race tech always over springs the rear. Then you got two weapons. When are you going to do the bike comparison because all the bikes you just listed are all the bikes I am looking at and nobody really does a review for guys who want an ADV primarily for off road first and yes of course we use them on the street but that's mainly just to get to the trails. The big GS seems to be unlivable for someone that can ride approximately around your skill level in the rough stuff so it looks like this light heavyweight or mid class (whatever anyone wants to call it) is kind of the best option for those of us who are dirt first oriented. Sure some muppet will say just get a KTM and they wouldn't be wrong but this is a second bike to my GasGas EC300I which is for just sending it and racing but which is the bike or bikes for guys who can ride as clearly you can that we can live with picking up in a bad spot (not in a parking lot of Starbucks) can eat long miles with the creature comforts yet get through (ADV) technical stuff and do it well. Thank you for all the great vids, you are awesome!

      Thanks man! Unfortunately the manufacturers won't support me like that and that would be a bear of a project. For you. A ktm 890 would be an easy bet but I don't think they're the end all be all. T7 VS tiger 900rp might be you. 10k vs 17k. But the tiger is such a much nicer bike and on the street it's amazing. Can't go wrong really. But I own a tiger 900rp and a scrambler 1200xe.
