Janis is to humor and camaraderie what Rinella is to philosophy and wisdom. These guys can do no wrong. Being a native Wisconsinite, this particular episode was even more fun to watch.
I have always thought ice fishing was ridiculous until this series, now I can't wait to get up North and give it a try. Thanks for bringing us this series in such a light hearted way that explores the community as much as the process. Great people, great fishing, great fun.
JJ is an amazing guide... if you’re looking to ice fish in Sturgeon Bay, JJ’s Guide Service is top notch. All around great guy and holds his team to true professionalism.
Its funny I have heard pike is a trash fish from so many people, I have been eating pike since i was a young kid and its one of the best tasting fish i have came across. Blackened Pike is my go to recipe. I have fed it to many people and they all have loved it. Other then a few bones here and there i cant find a bad thing to say about them.
I have found that in the wild game world there are so many nay sayers that say everything tastes bad other than venison backstrap and walleye. You can make almost anything taste good if you do it right
People say the same here in wa about white fish if you can believe it. Everyone wants Salmon and write off anything else. I'm a salmon fisherman and would take walleye or white fish over salmon any day. We ate pike growing up and it's delicious
I’ve never understood it. They’re phenomenal. Maybe it’s because they’re super slimy or because of the y-bones that people assume they’re not worth it, but when you know how to handle the bones, it’s not a big deal. More for us, I guess.
Who's Pat? Where's Dave? I absolutely love that Meateater is putting out their own content... This is the future... Create it, own it, show it. No middlemen, no studio execs. Keep it up, love everything you're doing.
What a great resource recovery story! Just goes to show that here in America when we set our sights on doing something worthwhile, we pull together and make it happen.
I have to go to my mother-in-law's for Christmas, and I've serendipitously gotten into Meat Eater recently. I know what I will be watching for most of the trip.
5"? A couple years ago, we had dang near 5 FEET of ice on some of the inland lakes. Many lakes in Northern WI have average days of ice cover in the 150+ days category.
I shed a tear when I saw that Spotted Cow 😥 I only get them maybe once or twice a year when I get family to bring me some when they come visit down here in Tampa.
Growing up Whitefish were always on the menu..year round, but especially during the spawn in the river......to break the slime and make them easy'er to handle...gut then soak in a salt bath...works on most fish I have tried.
I have ridden bicycles twice in Door county Wisconsin and had a fish boil of white fish. Amazing! Who would think boiled fish would be good but it is a regional surprise.
You guys need to do ft peck lake trout in March! That’s some of the most fun fishing I’ve ever had in my life. Run and gun on sleds and fish that chase and look like sharks under the ice!
I'd LOVE to have one of those fillet machines, though here in Michigan, skinning is almost a requirement due to the pollutants. =( Been many years since there's been any number of whitefish though... our DNR sold us out to the commercial fishermen. Key to filleting whitefish by hand is to cut from the inside of the fish out so you don't have to cut through the scales.
The eagle tried to slip in a sneaky little advertisement for meateater whiskey there... a true wisconsinite knows you gotta have a old fashion with korbel brandy
From st Joseph Michigan to sturgeon bay WI my second home. Worked at bay ship build co. Super sections and in the million dollar hole. Last vesicles worked on where for sea Land Co. The Kodiak, Tacoma, Anchorage. President Regan visited the shipyard just before I hired on.
Good video, and yeah that guide was obviously giving a tutorial on tip ups for the viewers not Jani. All the high points, old fashioned, supper club, and what comes with that fish on the side. But man did they haul a good amount.

"Homemade airboat" that right there is the epitome of Green Bay.

I agree Derek. As good as any perch or walleye.

Fur hat ice tour is the best thing on UA-cam right now. I don’t even ice fish... but making me really want to get out there this winter
I guess Dan Lindal, Commercial Fisherman is just out of luck.
I was really hoping someone would comment this
What a great resource recovery story! Just goes to show that here in America when we set our sights on doing something worthwhile, we pull together and make it happen.
This whole episode is aggressively Wisconsin
The ice cracks at 7:50 and everyone shits a little. Look at their faces! Lol
Here before the guy sending virtual hugs

This Hoosier is thinking about moving to Wisconsin. Man that looks fun!
You have no idea! This is my back yard!!!
@@Jj-di7su Same here. I'm not so patiently waiting for good ice on the bay.
Great video guys! That filet machine was incredible.
Whoever is choosing the music for this series deserves a reward.
Those are some serious winters. Can't even imagine what 5" ice looks like.
It gets over 36” thick in Wisconsin on most lakes. You need an extension for the ice auger
5"? A couple years ago, we had dang near 5 FEET of ice on some of the inland lakes. Many lakes in Northern WI have average days of ice cover in the 150+ days category.
What I learned by watching those videos:
Frying is the perfect preparation for every fish... :D
I shed a tear when I saw that Spotted Cow 😥 I only get them maybe once or twice a year when I get family to bring me some when they come visit down here in Tampa.
Jani is probably thinking "It's a tip up dude. I get it."
@1:06 - is it just me, or is the wrong name up on the screen?
Yeah. Im totally confused
What are you confused about?
@@ottoschultz9768 The lower third in the intro has Dan Lindals name not Pat Durkin!

so awesome to actually see and hear their face - love it
Fascinating. Seriously. Wife is from Appleton and this makes her homesick like crazy.
Wrong name in the intro under pat durkin
Double brat in a bun?! 17:01 Now that’s game changing!
For the next ice hat your you guys have to come to Canada and visit Jay Siemens! He is an ice fishing guru!
I 100% agree with this superb idea
is the border open yet?
Yes!
I know these are a lot of work to produce and I'm very grateful for it. Although, they could be longer 🙂
damn the music in this episode was straight FIRE
SWEET 🙌
Merry Christmas Fellas 🎄
Top notch construction, good fit. Seems like a decent hat
Durkin’s the man.
2 thumbs up for the "Filet-o-matic"!
Major props on the soundtrack to all these great videos! Definitely helps set the tone! (Pun intended ha!)
Great episode, and that filet machine is pretty slick!
Great show....Go Packers!

21:08 Knife goes in, guts come out.
I can’t believe all the comments are about the wrong name being prompted and nothing about that amazing filet machine. I really want one of those!
Right in the backyard! Love it!
Pat Durkin gets the shaft on the intro. There's record amount of awkwardness to this episode.
I love how awkward this episode is haha

Dang. I got Dan Lindal, and I thought I was getting Pat Durkin...
Just plain awesome!

Get Yanny and Ronny together in a ice shack with 4 cases of beer and a pile of cigars.
Friday night fish fry, for an invite I'll bring the venison! SERIOUSLY!! NOT JOKING!!!
You all need to come fish in Buffalo, NY! Or western New York! We have some good fishing!
White fish is delish!!!
I’m gonna try this in UT
Hi i am Pat Durkin but feel free to call me Dan Lindal..... Let me show ya around
I'm a little disappointed we didn't get to see Jani do a Lambeau Leap....
Phew. Was getting a little worried he wasn't using at least one Beaver Dam.
We got lil less then 4 feet of snow....in upstate ny
its funny that you guys are almost on the same latitude as us in the pacific northwest and we get a fraction of the cold and snow as you
Janis getting PAYED for getting hammered. Good move Steve
Whiskey and whitefish! new band name
Rubella could probably make one of those machines out of antlers, horns and beaver tails.
That is genius using a airboat on the ice.
Most fire departments that do ice rescues have em
Dude that is sketchy; I would be freaked out seeing moving water a 50 yards away while I am ice fishing
Glad you drank Wisconsibly.
Ahhh home...
Liked the video. Go Packers!
Cheers from De Pere
I really like your XD gear! Sharp!
Editors fault. Dan Lindall comes in later in the show lmao

How have I never heard of the Meateater Bourbon?
Dan Lindahl!?! How dare you!?!
GO PACKERS!!!
Shout out to Jeff at Smokey's! Sorry lol I see the hat.
Why is the charcoal included in the tip up box? What does it do?
Forgot the part about cheese curds and obesity in WI
Orange facts
How drunk is the editor on this one?
Janis just absolutely ripping a double brat
Used to live in Florida so air boats are nothing new I’m just new to Sturgeon Bay winters.
Pat, Dan...whatever. Editor to self: maybe no one will notice? #anothereditingboothbonghit
Couple 2 tree. Brat on the ice. Wisconsin at it's finest. They seem to have forgotten the beer though
What kind of fishing reel is he using at 13:14?
Thats Pat the name they have under him is Dan lol how many eyes did that go by?
I've lived in WI for a long time now. I do not know a single person that puts pickled mushrooms in their old fashioned. Not one.
I was thinking the same thing. I’ve also never seen anyone order an old fashioned with whiskey either. Lol
Whiskey old fashioned sour all the way
I order old fashions with pickled mushrooms and made with whiskey
Old Fahsioned Press, with Korbel Brandy is where its at! I have has a green olive in it though.
Its a green bay area thing. Threw me off until I had one
