- Опубліковано 20 вер 2021
- Washington DC is known for fishy business, but not like this. Chef Kevin Gillespie joins accomplished kayak angler Kristine Fischer to hunt down invasive blue catfish and the hated snakehead in the Potomac River and its surrounding swamps. They’ll find out how detrimental these fish really are to the environment, as well as how they taste.

I’m an avid musky angler and I’m certain this snakehead drove me more insane than they do! 😂😂 this was a blast guys! Thanks for letting me be a part of it !!
Your enjoyment at the catch and trying to get it into the net was great. Nice catch
Jumping into and sticking the landing on that kayak was legit. *tips hat
@@mattflynt5418 not going to lie, I expected that to end badly 😂
So I'm on one knee ??? 💍 lol great freaking episode
I am a mako boat owner and a Hobie kayak owner and also a Kristine Fischer follower. This was an awesome episode.
The jump from the boat to the kayak without ending up in the water was pretty impressive!
Must be a Hobie
@@j.t.molina7223
Jumping without a second thought was impressive
@@j.t.molina7223 they are pretty much barges
Her excitement when she caught the snakehead made my day!
Really nice to see kristine’s genuine thrill at successful catch of target species. Definitely was the highlight of this episode, and I hope she is an inspiration for young female anglers to take up this worthwhile pastime!
Thank you so much!! That is my main goal
Kristine has some serious sea legs. I fell in the water just watching her jump in the kayaks like that.
No joke, that was a hell of a leap of faith! That gal spends a lot of time in a kayak to be able to land a jump like that without even a wobble.
Its a Hobie. No worries when your in the world's best kayak.
Yeah she has really nice sea legs, couldn’t take my eyes off them
Love how even though she's a pro, she still gets excited about a solid catch.
I'm digging the turnpike troubadours hat
"you look the part though! (of a professional kayak angler)" was 100% the best. The second best was "I know I look the part" referencing being a professional chef was the second best. Joe showing up like the nosy Scout leader on a boy's only camping trip was also hilarious.
When she caught that snakehead her passion for fishing told on her big time lol
…Caught red handed 😂
That’s my reaction when I get one!
As soon as I saw the thumbnail on phone I knew that was Kristine! One of my favorite UA-cam channels to watch! Best episode thus far!
Thank you so much! This was an awesome experience!
Dang, From Top Chef to MeatEater, pretty rad career for Kevin.
She has the passion, love watching people like her fish.
Meat eater needs to have her on more fish episodes. Never seen someone so stoked to catch a fish!
I'd be down!
As a Kristine Fischer fan,This is my Favorite episode...She's a helluva angler.
Someone is comfortable in a kayak. Wow. That's impressive.
Thought same thing, but its also a $5k kayak.
Worlds best fishing kayak.
Go team Hobie
@@PCSalesStaff I'm sorry, but you're damn close to jon boat with a new motor territory for that price for some injection molded plastic... I don't want to be so reductive, but that's a lotta cheese for what it is.
@@scottleggejr yeah but u can't go we're we can go in a kayak. Plus the rush is awesome
Kristine = Ninja.
Seriously the excitement and enthusiasm is really contagious.
I hope she encourages more females to try our sport 💯
That’s the goal! 🙌
@@kristinefischer2289 Love your work ❤
Stay blessed 💯
Joe is killing it. This series is really good.
I'm stoked to get my kids and show my daughter this because she LOVES going to fish with dad.
That lady makes kayak fishing look fun, jumping onto it from shore is a new one for me
Holy shit! That girl's grace, the way that she leapt to the yak and was just standing on the front, that was amazing. 👏
Her excitement when she landed the fish made me smile. I felt like I was there with Christine and it genuinely jolted me full of endorphins. Thank you!
I am completely in love with all these fishing episodes…. Steve the thought of every fishing trip with all these amazing people was such a super idea and I love watching each and everyone with my boyfriend
This girl is wild... And very cool.... You go girl!
Really excited for this episode. Big fan of both Kristine and meat eaters own Kevin. Let's get into some blue cats. Stoked.
I am so glad you got one Kristine! I have been fishing for them 7 years now, they are an amazing fish and quite addictive to target! They have been established and are here to stay in NJ. Bass have been doing just fine here as well! As long as they are not introduced in closed bodies of water I have never seen a problem with them and I believe they should be declared a gamefish in our state already.
They aren’t native and outcompete natives. That’s a problem with them.
@@slugoo6474 yeah I was surprised when they were going on about how they don’t compete for they same food. These fish are very hardy and can survive droughts and they are known to move on land to go to one body of water to another.
Turnpike Troubadours for LIFE! Love the hat Ms. Fischer!
My old stomping grounds. It is amazing the blue cats overtook the river in such a short time. I was fishing there in the late 80's and they were already dominant. We'd still catch channel cats but the big catfish were always blues. And we caught some hogs. The bowfin I think was actually in the Potomac before they were "discovered" in 2004. In the mid 90's we caught what we thought then were bowfin a fish that is remarkably similar to the snakehead in appearance. We would catch them while fishing the hydrilla beds for bass. We didn't catch a lot of them but they would pound a spinnerbait dropped into a hole in the hydrilla mats often enough to be interesting.
This series is awesome. Thank you!
I had the same reaction the first time i caught a musky from my kayak. Couldn't help it i was so excited. Glad im not the only one that geeked.
This is the first vid I have seen on your channel. I like the shows idea. These two fishers made a great team. Its always great two see peoples from different cultures come together and find common game to work at Fun!!
Her excitement catching that snakehead was epic.
15:45 “I never make the call to get off the water, so you’re gonna have to do it.” ❤❤❤
She is the best of all time! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 great episode guys!
This episode is amazing. Possibly best Das Boat episode of all time.
I don’t know, the episode with the fighting was pretty good too.
After catching my first snakehead this summer, it's easy to become obsessed, re-invigorated lot's of guys back into fishing & purchasing kayaks (myself being one of them).
That leap to the kayak was pretty impressive. I was so she'll shocked by it that I missed the rest of the show lol
I binge watched the first two season one after another after another. Now that I’m caught up it feels like forever for the next episode this season
These two are great together. Love it. Glad to see Joe found a home with meat eater.
I love Das Boat and Joe does a great job!
Great episode, love seeing Meateater in my back yard!
Ive been loving this series was awesome in this episode to see you guys on my home waters!
good stuff every time , thanks for the show keep it going
Great video, and great collaboration!
It's awesome how MeatEater collabs with all of these other content creators.
First off this show isn't junk or else I wouldn't be binge-watching! Second love yuh guys💕😊
Favorite ep so far
So much fun watching her catch that snakehead.
Let me start by saying that you could not have chosen a better representative of the #kayakbassfishing community than @Kristine Fischer ! Ive fished with her many times in various tournaments and she is truly a wonderful person, and a bad ass with any type of tackle. This was so cool getting to watch you two dabble in something neither of you were familiar with.
Wow thank you!!!
Excited for the next episode now! I love bowfin!
That jump into the kayak was epic!
I don’t dislike season 3 of das boat, but man did I love season one and two! I really feel like I connected more with those seasons.
The swamp=Washington DC 😂😂😂😂. Absolutely!!! Good call
Lake Champlain that's awesome! Big Vermont fan here. Glad to see VT getting some recognition can't wait
Another great episode. I've seen other shows on snakehead fishing with bows but the only info was that they are an invasive species. Nothing was mentioned about any negative impact they presented. I hope I get a chance to fish for them someday.
This dude makes awesome vids man he does such a killer job making it comical and full of good content
Watch hook shots if you havent yet. Such great content
Love this show
just love das boat!!
Yes the perfect episode for me
Glad to see ladies who like to fish. To the ladies that like fishing, I am in love with all of you. Be safe and happy.
Amazing squeals and impressive performance
Proud of you KF!
This was REALLY cool. Never woulda thunk Snakehead were good eatin. Keep these vids comin. Peace ✌😎
They keep talking down about this boat (junkshow etc) but man, I love that boat! I'd love to own that vintage mako.
Same here
cept it sits in the water like water logged brick
As a kayaker this is funny because those 2 kayaks are probably worth the same as Das Boat lol
I don't have any idea who the girl is but she's awesome! The part where she just jumps in to the kayak @ 20:15 is great. She ain't scared.
Thats me!
This is a cracking series. I’m Australian. Wish there was an Aussie version…. Meateater give me a call…😉
I wish there was too! And NZ!
She’s an amazing angler and that excitement ❤️😇😎
Anyone who uses “She’s a beaut Clark.” is someone I’d hang out with. 🤙 #degenerateangler
Bent!
Of all the snakehead stomach contents my brother and I have checked, we've only found a small handful of bass fry. The bass, on the other hand, have been packed with snakehead fry, in some cases exclusively.
Thats interesting... My catfish finds have been ALOT of crab
Snakeheads breed up to 5x/year. Bass are twice/year. The bass are eating the heck out of the snakehead fry. I’ve been fishing Aquia Creek for years, targeting snakehead and I catch a lot more bass than snakeheads. They are an incredibly rewarding fish to catch.
@@joeybagodonutz4036 - "Yo, Joey Bagodonutz, who you telling!?" LOL! Man I sure do miss Aquia creek, such a beautiful fishery...
Nice Turnpike Troubadours hat Kristine!! I have the same one
Its my all time favorite hat! And im a ballcap aficionado!
Leesylvania is one of my favorite launches!!!
Everyone needs to like this dam video right now let's keep hunting and fishing alive on youtube!!
Nice video thanks 😊
Great video
Best bait for catfish in the Potomac, MD is worms. We tried every cut/stink bait and always ended back to worms. Most summer nights from the barracks we caught 50 plus near Indian head, MD
Keep the show going
22:32 life goals, find a woman that gets that excited for fishing!
Haha I disagree! I love getting away fishing without the missus. Same reason other guys play golf!!
Few things are hotter than a woman who genuinely loves fishing and is a great angler. Awesome video.
As a DC area native this is cool to see
Nice Video!
This is honestly the First time I've ever seen catfishing in Washington DC
I heard a story maybe 15 years ago about the snakehead epicenter. A man imported a few so he could cook some traditional dishes for his sister in the hospital. She happened to recover before the fish were cooked and he released them into a pond. The pond flooded sometime later and snakehead were in tidal water. Somewhere in Maryland.
Nice leap.
Hearing him refer to the fish as an ingredient that he’d been anxious to work with was odd, but in a good way that I’ve not thought of. It’s always been the focus for me not an ingredient to a dish.
Now if you use circle hooks then you need to place it in a vice and take a pair of plowers grab the top and bind it just a bit for best fishing . Rob.
Finally!
While I appreciate the fact that Das Boat is finally hitting the east coast, new jersey and DC are NOT northeast. Until I see you guys in Connecticut or further north, this might as well be Das Boat: mid Atlantic.
NJ not in the northeast? the fuck are you smoking?
@@benitomaximo7375 Dude. New England is north east. New jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, and DC are all in the Mid-Atlantic region. To say they're all on the east coast is one thing, but as a new Englander, it sure as shit ain't the north east.
@@arancourt5623 such a pretentious New Englander thing to say. If you look up northeast states on google the nine states it lists are Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. that’s a fact. I don’t know how you can debate that.
@@benitomaximo7375 blame the education system, that and According to the atc, new jersey is listed as part of the mid Atlantic. Lol. But thanks, I do try to be the most pretentious new Englander I can be.
this is the best dating show

That jump from the boat to the kayak 😳
Good show
Another thing people don't realize is that the Potomac in DC has amazing smallmouth fishing!
I like that Turnpike Troubadours hat
Kristine catching that fish was awesome
👍and thank you
Flippin' Awesome Episode!! Snakeheads are an absolute blast to catch & taste great! They fight great, are super aggressive on just about any type of bait you throw at em & get a good size. If you weren't before goin fishing for em, you'll def be a believer after! Hard to beat the blue catfish & snake head when it comes to a freshwater fish on the East Coast of the U S of A!
You guys are gonna have to make another trip to DC in the springtime to fish the American Shad run. It is some of the best ultralight and fly fishing in the DMV area.
New intro 👀 looking good
Well what would be good in that frried fish would be a few birdeye peppers for flavor. Rob.
I had a '86 17ft Mako. They are built for battle. All hand laid glass.
YES!!!!!
