I told the park Doc actor that I missed the institute. He responded “I do too, but maybe it’s for the better. It seemed like that Tannen-kid was stealing my Delorean everyday.” I laughed so hard.

Similar thing happened to me too one time. I told Doc, "Haven't seen you since the Institute closed", and then after we got our picture, he said to my "Do me a favor, and go on the Simpsons for ol' times sake!" and I did.
I bought the dvd at the parks which was wildly over priced but it came with ride queue footage and footage from the ride itself, worth it 😅

My favorite movie series of all time! I wish this ride was still here. I’ve literally only ridden Simpsons once in protest. Lol.

Expedition Theme Park, I don't think I've ever ridden the Simpsons attraction, but I have rode Back to the Future at least 12 times, and it was AWESOME! It was my favorite ride in Universal Studios, other than the Hulk and Dueling Dragons roller coasters.

Fantastic editing! I was lucky enough to ride BTTF many times before it was closed, and it was always a Must Do whenever we were in the park. The fact that the BTTF Bluray collections alway include the Ride and preshow footage in every release goes to show how important the ride was to fans of the franchise. I think the Simpsons Ride is funny and enjoyable, but it’s nowhere near as great as the original. I also remember BTTF being a lot rougher and more intense than the Simpsons, but that could be me being younger and remembering it differently..
The biggest positive I can think of regarding the change was building the Krustyland around the Simpsons ride with the big restaurant and carnival games. And, I’m happy that Doc Brown is STILL a character that walks around the park!

When I got to universal in 2003 I ran straight to this ride. It was truly amazing and the crown jewel of the park. A crying shame they closed it. Utter madness.

The Back to the Future ride is irreplaceable but man I really love the Simpsons ride. It does a very good job implementing the world of the simpsons into the whole experience. I feel like I’m in an episode from the movement I enter krusty’s giant head. And it’s just a lot of fun. Like I said I have a special place in my heart for the BTTF ride but I love what we got in it’s place.
I just wish it was 2d and not the weird cgi

The screen quality & awful faux 3D ruins it for me. I love the queue & storyline of the ride, because I love theme parks & the Simpsons, but god the actual ride feels so gross & outdated anymore.

Back To The Future Ride had that movie magic feel. I would just get lost in the world it created. Though The Simpsons is the bigger franchise and has a much wider reach, it doesn't capture that magic at all.
I rode this at Universal Studios Hollywood back in 1999 as a 19 year old! I had spent the previous day at Disney Land and had done Star Tours, so I was really excited to ride BTTF because it was a similar ride experience. However it was very ROUGH compared to Star Tours. I remember my hands hurting really bad because the force of the simulator was so strong you had to hold on really tight to the bar in front of you. I felt really bad because I had my mum with me and we thought it was going to be smooth like Star Tours, how wrong I was! I still loved the ride, I just wished it was a smoother experience.
I know this was uploaded 3 years ago to UA-cam, and there are heaps of comments, I tried to read them all and what I could tell no one else thought this ride was rough! Am I the only one? Did anybody else have a similar experience?

Truly so sad this ride is gone. The music and video clips from the ride in this episode brought back so many fond memories. To this day, I would love for this ride to make a return (but not in Kong fashion where they give us a crappy rendition of a spectacular ride that once was), still holding out hope!!

My friends and I love the Simpson's Ride. It is the first ride we go on every time we go to the park, even topping our second favorite, Forbidden Journey. But just like Back to the Future, it will inevitably will be shut down and replaced and I will get over it (just like Tower of Terror) and look forward to the next big thing.
My family and I went on this ride on two occasions - in 1992 and then in 2006. I did enjoy it, but I recall the film looking worn out when I was there in 2006. I'm kind of surprised they left it there for as long as they did, but I'm glad I got to see it once more before it was replaced.
Absolutely PERFECT teaser ending for this video, really reminded me of the tease at end of BttF Part 2! And I loved the Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show, so looking forward to that episode. Thanks for the memories!

I used to work at Universal and I was a ride attendant for BTTF and E.T. Being able to wear the shirt that Doc wore in the third movie and a scientists coat over it, really was so cool. I have always loved the trilogy and enjoyed the ride immensely. I was bummed when it closed, way after I’d moved on from Universal. Even though being an 80’s kid, I grew up with The Simpsons (first saw on Tracy Ullman Show), I think it’s not the best replacement/addition. Personally, I think they should have hung on to a few of the OG rides, for pure nostalgia for many, or a new experience for some.
I remember being a kid and seeing the ad for this when it first opened, my family and I wanted to go SO BAD!!! Back to the Future was always a family favorite movie.. Sadly, we never went to Universal Studios. Thank you for putting this up, brings back my childhood ❤
As much as I regretted never seeing BttF and really loving the series, I really enjoy The Simpsons Ride. I think it’s everything that made the show great rolled into one fantastic, hilarious rideable montage. It could do with a 4K upgrade and some other TLC, but I always make a stop in Springfield whenever I’m in the park.
I disagree about the Simpson ride lacking heart. The Simpsons ride has clever jokes, is very self-aware, and is honestly a thoroughly good time. The themeing is so well done as well! Of course I miss Back to the Future, but that ride was ancient by 2006 and although money could have been spent to update the ride and visuals, the Simpsons is a great alternative.
The zone and theming is great I don’t disagree with that but the 3D ride movie is just not good. It’s all over the place. Before they added the simpsons land around the round years later it wasn’t a good replacement in my opinion

Sam I remember the back to the future ride which was awesome. The simpsons is ok but does not carry the same weight as BTTF.. sad thing is is that only ET is left of the Steven Spielberg rides. The rest are gone. Great job on the video as always really good content. Keep doing the universal videos it’s a fresh take getting away from the mouse!
I rode BttF 100+ times including on its final day. I rode the Simpsons ride once. That was all I needed. It is just a soulless IP cash grab replacing an all time classic ride. Luckily I have the collectors box set of DVDs that includes the entire ride through footage so I can at least still enjoy BttF the ride that way. Still better than Simpsons.

Considering they can get rid of something as iconic as dueling dragons they should be able to scrap this for something cooler..

i remember this ride like it was yesterday, we went to the one here in Hollywood and it was the best one after the ride we would go to the gift shop and try to buy things of the movie.. i miss it..

One of my favourite movies of all time and I never got to experience this ride like so many others did. So wish they would bring it back just for me. The Simpsons ride was okay I suppose, the BTTF ride just looked so awesome.... Another well done video though 😊
I went on this ride when my family and I went on summer vacation to Orlando in 1995. It was an awesome ride, but as soon as it started, my dad started throwing up everywhere, including on the people in front of us😂

Thank you SOOOO much for this Sam!! You are so right, it is still sorely missed today. I always tried to make it the first and last ride I did. And I'm the same, do not go on the Simpson ride. It's not the same.
Fun bit of trivia: the ride controllers were produced by a company called Gilderfluke, who makes various show and ride car controllers for theme parks. The time display in the ride car would blink a pattern that was the birth date of the CEO of Gilderfluke. If you took your seatbelt off during the ride it was a Gilderfluke controller tattling on you.
They are complicated to set up but they are a damn fine controller unit.
I remember going on The Simpsons Ride in August 2008 at Universal Hollywood and at that point the Doc Brown's Burgers restaurant was still there so there was still a remnant of the old BTTF ride at that point. I haven't been to a Universal park since then though.

I was there on the last day of bttf the ride in Japan! It had such a send off with hundreds of avid fans dressing up wishing it a goodbye for now.

My Favorite Movie series and my favorite Universal Ride, I miss it. I will never forget my disappointment when I went to Universal in summer of 2007 and found out it was closed. I have loved the Simpson's since it began, but I can't ever truly love the Simpson's Ride knowing I could be riding back to the future everytime I ride it. The Springfield area around the ride is pretty cool though. Also, last time I was there (a couple years ago now), they still had the Deloreon and Time Traveling Train on Display there along with a Doc Brown walk around Character, so that is nice.
I loved this ride! Me and my brother would ride it over and over again. Such a shame they got rid of it. I like the Simpsons ride but i always feel nauseous after riding. Great Job Sam!!!

I've been to Universal twice in my lifetime. I adored the Back to the Future ride and was sad to see it go. I rode the Simpsons ride last time I went because the line was short & it was so hot outside. Not super impressed. Would love to see a return to something more in the style of Back to the Future . . . In the future
Fun fact: Heather, the IFT Spokesperson (5:54), is played by Darlene Vogel, who originally played Spike (one of the skateboarders) in Back to the Future II.

I think the Simpsons ride was a bad call. The show was already irrelevant by the time it got going. At any rate they'll making a Rick & Morty ride in 2035.

Went on it every chance I could (and I went to Universal A LOT as a kid). I was so bummed to see that it had been replaced when I finally got to go back in 2016. The park is really nothing like I remember :(
I only remember riding Back to the Future once even though we can still ride it online and on the Blu-ray I still want it to return to the park. I recently heard that Universal Orlando most likely confirmed about making a fourth park and I think Back to the Future would be a great opening day attraction for the future park and maybe have the original return or they could make a brand new story.
Really need a new Back to Future ride now! ☺

First ride, I was ever gutted that it closed. Marked the start of the changes at universal in my mind. Great que sound track though.
Watching this video is bittersweet. I was lucky enough to ride this twice in my lifetime, but there are so many new BTTF fans that never got the chance. And that's a shame. Universal to me personally should have tried to keep the ride and never replaced it completely.

Maybe it’s because I’ve never ridden Back to the Future, but I really enjoy The Simpsons ride. It’s fun, thrilling, and pretty humorous at times as well.
The Simpsons isn't even really a Universal IP but a 20th century Fox IP which makes the fact that it called off Back to the Future all the more jarring and unsettling.

Back to the future by far. I liked it because it was "live action" so it felt more relatable, involving, and plausible as you went after Biff. The others rides, while okay, don't have that atmosphere because they're animated rides. Plus, do you know much money they could have made if they had a gift shop selling Mart's future hat, "life perserver", hoverboard skateboards, almanacs, 50's themes stuff from the movies, etc... I would love to had a Twin Pines Mall or Lone Pines Mall t-shirt.
i miss back to the future, i couldn't care less if the reality of 2015 failed to match the rides version, personally it gives it a humorous charm seeing how we thought 2015 would be like kinda like how people in 3000 will laugh at how we thought the future would look like in futurama.
plus BTTF is iconic, its heart breaking to see such a ride go, especially when it was a ride you grew to love growing up as a kid and became a tradition to always ride when you went to the park.
futurama could of had more potential as a replacement ride as the motion of the planet express ship or whatever else they think of to use for the ride vehicles would of worked perfectly when looking at how it worked for the deloreans flight capabilities
Shadow Otter I totally agree. Back to the future is a ride that would have grown with those who were kids when the film came out and universal opened. It's a class. Look how big back to the future day was a couple of years ago. I hope they never get rid of ET, a small update would be nice but I still love it regardless just for nostalgia and because the first time I went on it I was a kid and it's still exactly the same.
I only got to go on BTTF a few times before it closed and I still miss it, but I think Simpsons is pretty funny and a good successor.
Really big missed opportunity for “Ben” FKA as Biff to say “Make like a tree, and get outta here” at the end of the video.

I loved this ride in Florida when I lived there. Was very disappointed they removed it and put in the Simpson's ride in the same spot with very similar technology. The Simpson's ride is not bad, but this was the original ride with the original actors used and Spielberg's involvement. You could see the cars next to you if you looked sideways, and if you looked up back behind you, you could see the wall up to the car above you. Still a great fun ride and the story was fantastic. The question now facing Universal is what to replace the Simpson's ride with. Disney owns the copyright now so who knows what will happen to it when the contract runs out in 2028 (guess).

I was really upset when they replaced this with the Simpsons. Back to the Future is a great movie franchise that still has a huge following. The Simpsons haven't been relevant for about 15 years now.

I agree that they both have cult followings, but those who follow the Simpsons aren’t usually the same kind of people who follow the Universal classics. I’m sure the ride brought in a wider audience, but I don’t think it fits with the park at all. Just a personal opinion, nobody is right/wrong here 😊

Another reason I won't be going to Universal Studios, except for many a Halloween experience!
They were worried that 2015 was coming and decided to close the ride? Uh, hello! It's 2018 and people still love that movie trilogy, myself included. It was fiction, nobody was saying this was actually going to happen; honestly, I think it was a very dumb move on their part to remove such a well loved ride and replace it with something no one was asking for in the first place.
I think universal should use the Simpsons ride to be used as a donor for a new back to the future 2020 ride. It would pull in a bigger crowd.

Who knows maybe when Disney decides they want to buy out all of the Simpson's Theme Park rights they may restore this beloved beauty back to it's former glory. Possibly they could eventually give a multi-purpose use by letting it be rented out for certain dates for other beloved motion rides like the Hanna Barbara one or the T2 one.
