I actually went to that Earls Court motor fair as they called it, the cars featured at the show had a lot more paint on them compared to the ones you actually bought and drove, ah they were the days after 12 months you could see paint work starting to bubble with rust coming through
We had a Citroen 2CV in the late 1970's. On a family trip to Wales once it wouldn't make it up some of the hills so me, my brother and my mum had to get out and walk up!
We went to the show, I have a few photos from there as well. My Father bought a Granada Ghia in 1978, it was just the second one that our local Ford garage had got in.
1:41, why were girls back in the 70's and early 80's gorgeous. What happened to them. I'd be 17 back then, or is it just getting old? Try finding a slim young woman in the street now. I think this is why the Sun newspaper stopped having page 3.
This was my first motor show. I think I was 9 and had been into cars for 2 or 3 years. I do remember seeing the Panther 6. Haven't seen one since as I think they only made a very small number.
The TR7 was a Liverpool produced version, putting it before 1978, I purposely bought a 1978+ Cowley version which was much better quality.........even so it was not great :/
Yep... I had 2 . The version built in Speke was the biggest pile of shite I can honestly say I have ever owned. . Less things fell off the cowley version😂
I'm guessing this was around 1977? What great design on that fiesta...a sunroof you have to stop and get out of the car to replace when it starts to rain lol! And that glass hatch on the sunbeam looks a bit flimsy too!. The V8 Vantage still looks good mind! The Lagonda, not so much.
Yes, autumn 1977 I think. British Motor shows tended to be in October. The mark 2 Granada was just launched by then. I think I'll have the Cortina Ghia!
You didn't have to take the glass out , there was a tilting hinge on it as well that was operated from the inside . These were the early days of glass sun roofs and one of several initial designs. The prices tickle me , a top of the range Granada cost £7000 , you could still get a run down terraced house for that sort of money .
soundseeker63 - everything on that Sunbeam was flimsy! A mate had one as a first car. Admittedly, it was a few years old by 1988, but I remember the roof around the sunroof was so rusty, the sunroof fell through. Not quite the same ad the Fiesta!😁
The Sunbeam was a rear drive hatch when the best modern cars at the time were small front wheel drive hatchbacks (think VW Polo, Renault 5, Fiat 127, Ford Fiesta). This meant interior room was somewhat compromised, especially in the rear, but the car had simple mechanics (even if they weren't very good) and decent handling. Unfortunately, like so many cars from this era, rust was rampant - it really took another decade or two before car makers really started to get that under control for the UK climate.

The Aston V8 vantage in the vid would pass as a brand new car in 2020,it looks beautiful!

I like the motor show with the cars of the world. Ypostel.

Magnificent cars! My Granddad bought the Granada 3.0GLE auto with factory A/C no less - very grand! And the ride.. Like a magic carpet.
Luckily enough the Morris marinas all came with a complimentary bus timetable,
and a lifetime's membership to the AA...and im not talking about roadside assistance.

Wow that Princess 2200 was glorious lol
They had to do twelve takes to get the TR7 headlight to raise and focused on only one so you didn't notice the other out of sync.
Lol I'm pretty sure someone had to reach underneath to push it up manually.
Missed The Memory.
The whole of next years production of Panther Sixes was sold already? I hope they got their deposits back..
He. Not 'they'.
BOTH cars were sold. There were no further years of production. Can't imagine why not.
2:49 Matra-SImca Bagheera...I had a matchbox toy of that when i was a rug rat.
Music sounds like it’s from a colour climax film

2 I think were completed, but not sure !.
The sunroof on that Fiesta looks annoying. Look at the size of the interior lights on the Granada!
I like the way it seems to be set to 70s porn music.
Well we have the porn stars so
Like better than the shit from today
Did you notice the one-spoke wheel on the Lagonda? An idéa originally from Citroen
The Panther 6 had a full order book. They made two.🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@stephenevans1833 There was a doco on YT about the Speke factory, they basically struck & poorly worked themselves out of a job & car plant :(

Generation Renter - sorry, would rather be going home in that Matra Bagheera.

That cortina looked choice
Fiat X19 for me for obvious reasons.
Filmed in 1976? Ford Fiesta introduced?
The Fiesta was only introduced in the UK in ‘77, it was released elsewhere in Europe the previous year.
Not a single German car. Sweet.
VW golf there
They were there. So were the Italians. They had two new Ferrari 308s on the stand - the real stars of the show.
Weren't the Granadas and Capris built in Germany?
1977
Most of these moldels diappeared because the Asian factories took over the production best sellers of ford &Vaxhall vere struggling too
of course they wouldn't be sensible enough to tell you what year this was would they ??
1977. I remember the Monte Carlo theme
3 front seats doesnt look comfortable
"The Lagonda...sheer beauty..."
I beg to differ, sir! It must be one of the ugliest cars ever put into production.
eccIefechan - The Vauxhall Centaur wasn't exactly easy on the eye either. Not an auspicious era for car designs obviously!
How wrong you are...
I think my Mum said that the Lagonda looked as though an elephant had sat on it!
Fiesta, Cortina, Escort ; most over-rated cars ever.
