Thanks Hank! I've taken the "crash course", starting with session 1 and am now caught up. Last year our local club introduced the "Truman Award"...which is basically a "group" build for the club that we invite other clubs to participate in, with the final judging taking place at our annual show/contest in early November. The first year it was 1/72 scale Mustang Aircraft, this year is was Mustang automobiles...but for next year it looks like it will be a 1/35 scale Sherman Tank. So...I'm certainly appreciating your efforts to bring us...Sherman School.
Wow!!!! Thanks Hank! How in the hell do you keep this stuff in your head???????? My brain is just boggled! I'll be re-playing this episode a few times just to try and get a somewhat grip on it!!!! Cheers!!!
Interesting and informative video Hank. I believe that the Israelis used the Sherman commander’s 6 vision port hatch when they upgraded Patton M48s into Magach 3s.
Great video yet again Hank, I read about the Marines getting M4's and had to swap parts to keep the tanks rolling because the Army didn't supply the Marines with spare parts. The Army actually got angry at this and orders went out telling the Marines to stop doing that. Reason being was the Marines had to return old tanks to get new one's. Imagine being a military unit like the Marines and having to ask for money from 1 dept (Navy) to buy tanks from another dept (Army). Looking forward to the next video.
I'm enjoying this series. Us modelers need to remember that it's possible to see anything/everything on WW2 Shermans. Our recovery teams thought nothing of taking parts, hulls, bogies, turrets from different damaged tanks and making franken-tanks to keep the armored companies going.
Thanks! And ain't that the truth... there are a million exceptions to every rule, especially when it comes to the good ol' Sherman. My goal in this series has been to give an overview of the "rule of thumb" for what you'll usually see when it comes to these variants & hopefully give folks a good starting point to understand what they're looking at
Gidday Hank. Cheers for the very interesting series on the Sherman. Look forward to more of the series. Just got home from work and watching while putting away my work gear and the corner of my my eye caught the very dark uniforms on the Sherman crew. Had to go back and second look. 🙂 How do you stop some one stealing your Sherman when your off having a few drinks? Will you be doing a bit on basic operations? How do you start one? That sort of thing. Again, thanks for the informative and entertaining vids. Matt 🦘
Great vid mate. This set of in-depth info vids are fascinating and are , in my opinion, a must see for WWII armour modelers so as we can get things right. Would you be up for making more on, say, the Honey (the Brit in me wants to call it that) and then some of the tank destroyers? Where ever we go forward a big "thank you" for the great watch.
I heard or read that actually sent out Field Modification Kits to actually add the Loader Hatch to the Turret while in Theater. Do you have any info on that?
Nice job and very easy to follow. Probably asked before in other videos, but for a beginner modeler, what model kit would you recommend for my first Sherman build?
Thank you for watching! To answer your question: the Brits did not have Shermans during the Battle of Dunkirk. As a matter of fact, nobody did! The earliest Shermans to see combat will be with the British 8th Army in Tunisia in the fall of 1942, more than two full years after the Dunkirk evacuation. The majority of tanks employed by the BEF in France in 1940 were Matilda Is & lighter cruiser tanks, as well as a handful of Matilda IIs. Hope that helps!
Cheers, my friend! Thanks for watching. The Wehrmacht impression behind me has a replica MP40, but I do have a replica M3 as well - I've actually got a video on both if you'd like to check them out 👍
@@SpruesNBrews Hello Hank as an ex Petty Officer and a tank commander i'm always interested in such topics; :-) BTW do you mind if I send you an E-Mail. I have some questions and would appreciate your professional and honest opinion.
Awsome. Sherman school is some of the best video's I've ever watched on any channel. I'm so glad they started back up again. Great job Hank.
Ahh, you're too kind! Thank you for watching - I'm really glad to hear it!

Good job, thanks! I wouldn't mind you educating us modelers on the different variants of the US half track.
I'll have to add that one to the list! Thank you!!

Ooo maybe someday! I'd love to!

Great vid! Here's a question that I've seen various answers to. We're the British using Shermans tanks during Dunkirk?
Thank you for watching!

Please make the m1a1 abrams model?????
Hi Hank. Nice to meet you and greetings from Belgium. In the background of your video is that a M3 Grease Gun or is that a 9mm Vigneron?

Hey Hank, weird question. Where did you get your beanie. I want one! 😂
Haha - no weird questions! It's a repro USAAF A-4 watch cap I picked up from Bronson MFG a few years back. Cheers!
@@SpruesNBrews Reminds me of the wool watch caps we were issued in Navy boot camp- god those things were rough! :)
