This is why Arkada is one of my favorite anime reviewers on UA-cam. Instead of following trends and talking about popular show for massive UA-cam gain, we get to see a review of an anime that may be forgotten but the mass. But important enough to be excavated back and receive the praise it deserves. His video show us clearly that he is passionate about anime, and he make reviews because he truly loves this medium.
Thanks for the great review once again Ark! Your video has once again persuade me to watch a show that I would never heard of otherwise, as you have done times and times again. Keep up the great work!
I haven't see everything he's made a video on but from what I've seen he doesn't review any echii or very fanservice filled anime which I like as it shows he isn't just a pervert or degenerate like most people seem to be. He can bring us amazing shows from the sea of crap fanservice echii anime and show us that anime isn't just that.
Nice to see a video on an anime that isn't currently airing but is also not a old classic.
Regarding your closing statements, I have never heard of Seiyu's Life before, and I'm so glad you made this video! I don't know how I never heard of it, but I'm glad I have now and I'm looking forward to watching it as soon as possible. Thanks for talking about it!
Who else is waiting on an anime about how this anime was made?
Anime became a thing only because Japanese animation found a niche here in the west with shows like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.
Too much meta for me..
Judged This statement is just false. Anime was a thing way before Akira and Ghost in the Shell existed.
Protagonist No, Japanese animation was a thing before Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I can think of dozens of anime that aired or was created before those two, however, to the best of my knowledge it was considered to be just another cartoon or form of such. If it wasn't for those high profile, AAA shows that Toonami aired or those that caught the eye of the western public, anime as we know it wouldn't be here, instead just another cartoon series in the medley that is Japanese television.
Judged Anime is still considered to be just cartoons by the Japanese who make it. If you are referring to when and why Anime gained popularity in the west, then it would be fair to attribute credit to shows like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Toonami in general. That is a completely different discussion though. Shows like Space Battleship Yamato did not need the existence of the shows that came after it to be an "anime" though. That argument doesn't really make any sense.
You are not alone in wanting a dub for this show.
Betuor Gripley you are (not) alone in wanting a dub for this show
FTFY
Man, after watching the first few minutes of your review I was like, "I've already got it on my list... may as well give it a shot." And by golly was it the right choice, I ADORE this show so much. Thank you for pushing me over the edge to watch it.
Yo dawg I heard you like voice actors so I made a show about voice actors so you can watch voice actors being voiced by voiced actors while the voice actors act.
Flurby Durby N A N I?!?!?
Funny
It's a old meme, sir
But it checks out
Ill add this my "watch later" anime list.
..ill get to it one day i promise.
"Gi(a)rlish Number" is great
Is this the secret sequel to "the disappearance of nagato yuki"?
lmao
Daddy Tanigawa knows
Yes
I actually only thought to pick it up at the time because Futaba looked like Yuki-chan.
You should do a arakawa under the bridge review
I love this show, and I’m so glad you ended up reviewing and loving it as well! Love the video!
so glad you made this cause I totally want to watch this so bad but would have otherwise not even heard about it if you hadn't said something thanks for spreading the word
Im excited to watch this! I've been searching for a show like that! Thank you Arkada
Yes!! Thank you for reviewing this. As an actress I really loved watching this show. Would be amazing to see more shows like it.
Btw your reviews are so inspiring! Keep up the amazing work :)
Arkada, this is why I watch your channel regularly! You bring light to series that might have been ignored or not given the chance they have earned! I didn't know this series existed. Now I'm going to sit and binge this series!!!
Back in 2015 wehn you recommended Shirobako I watched it and it blew me absolutely away. It is still one of my all time favorites. So your recommendation here does not go unheard, you can count me in!
I’m actually doing a few fan voice acting projects on UA-cam. Now knowing that theirs a show out there that shows how it all actually works, I’ll be jumping at the chance to watch it!
I love Shirobako so have popped this onto my wishlist to pick up. Thanks for the recommendation :)
Shirobako was amazing...definitely willing to give this a shot! Thanks for bringing it to my attention Ark!
Thank you for sharing your love of this! I loved it and have watched it 3 times. I am so happy your spreading the word! It's so wonderful, I was also sad funnimation didn't dub it as well.
When you mentioned events in the show that were actually real life experiences of the people playing those parts, now that's some meta within meta.
Arkada, I love your reviews man. Keep up the fantastic work. You're truly an inspiration for smaller creators like me. :)
Couldn’t give this video as many thumbs ups as I wished. Thanks for the recommendation
Someone should make an anime about making anime about making anime
Seiyu's Life is one of thoses shows that somehow got under my radar when it first aired and I hadn't had the time to watch it yet. It seems like exactly the kind of show I'd enjoy.Hopefully I'll have more time next season to catch up with some older shows. And hopefully I remember to put Seiyu's Life on top of the list.
Thank you for telling me about this. I will definitely check it out.
I never thought I would be watching a grown man talking about anime would be so intriguing. Even if it's for a show I don't particularly care for. Keep up the good work. You got me interested in anime again and interested in shows I never thought I would watch :P
Never heard of it, but I'll watch it now, so your video has reached a person!
Wow I absolutely LOVE your passion and excitement here! I am going to check this out, I find voice-acting to be so interesting! ^_^
This actually looks like something I would watch and enjoy. I love relatable adorable slice of life series
I'm honestly very glad to see this series getting some love. I felt like it was skipped over by nearly everyone when it aired, which is a shame since it does such a great job at showing that side of the industry. I'd like to echo the comment made by someone else and hope that you give us some thoughts on Comic Girls at some point, or hell, maybe just do a bigger video on these types of shows someday so that we can get more of a rundown of what's out there. I've seen a few of the others mentioned in this video like Girlish Number, Shirobako and some of Genshiken, but the others are ones I definitely need to go back and take a look at. And if there are others out there, I'd love to see them as I also love this side of anime and what it shows us.
never heard of this series so thanks for the recommendation. Looking forward to watching this.
Have you watched/read Bakuman? It's a manga/show about manga writers, and the main characters are trying to get an anime adaptation of their work so you get to see the process from the original author's side. There are also recurring characters with relating occcupations like editors, assistants and voice actors. It's pretty interesting if you're into this fiction-documentary genre!
Bakuman is fantastic. And I personally think that Bakuman is far better than their previous work, Death Note.
Bernie Burton that fact is so bizarre
I finished that a few days ago and I loved it. I pretty much binged seasons 2 and 3. I watched Monthly girls' Nozaki-kun a while ago and was searching for something similar and found Bakuman. While they aren't that similar, I still loved both. Now I'm trying to find more anime about manga.
For brief second there I read that as "Bakugan", and thought you meant the anime about plastic balls popping open into creatures and magic cards.
Nothing much else beyond that, it's basically the same type of crap that "Yu-Gi-Oh" and "Beyblade" fall into. You know, less of a show, more of an anime shaped toy commercial.
Cynthia Star it's a bloody brilliant anime/manga
I am still hoping you will fully review Violet Evergarden.
You're not alone, I LOVE this anime! It's definitely not a popular one, and not many people were watching it when it was airing at the time either, but I loved the show for being so fun and informative. I'm naively hoping for a sequel to happen...someday.
Great video! Definitely would watch this anime.
my God I remember watching this when it first came out I'm being literally hit with Nostalgia right now
Awesome video, it's cool seeing videos talking about the more niche shows. I passed on watching this a while ago because I wasn't sure if it would be more than just cute girls with a different hobby or job than other cute girls shows, but you've convinced me.
Wow never expected this review I was one of the few who watched during it's airing and became a fan of Rie than she exploded with her Voicing ReZero and Konosuba it's amazing how she blew up
Another solid review, another anime in my queue. Thank UA-cam algorithm. :)
Girlish Number is also a pretty solid series focusing on voice acting. Fun stuff.
I wholeheartedly agree with your review.
Seiyuu's Life is amazing. It's not for everyone, and it wasn't really designed for everyone, but if you do love that subgenre, it's a blast.
this genuinely sounds like a really interesting show! I actually like to follow a lot of seiyuus lives beyond just the characters they voice, so I feel like this is right up my ally! I'm also a big fan of takahashi rie so thats a plus :)
Beyond glad a video was made on Seiyu’s Life- way too underrated. Glad to see I was not the only one frustrated that we only got a sub only DVD. Still my copy is happily wedged between Shirobako and Girlish Number.
Just here to say i enjoy the content . Thanks man
I somehow managed to miss this show entirely up until this day, but now it is among the first three series on my to-watch list.
I'm curious how a Funimation dub would actually turn out
I loved how you Reviewed Kara no Kyoukai
I've never heard of it before! Sounds interesting, I should watch it!
Aaaaand as usual, Crunchyroll does not have it in my country. It's frustrating to be an anime fan if you're not in the US. :l
In theory, yes, but I feel like using such an option defeats the purpose of trying to watch anime legally in the first place.
You can download CR-Unblocker extention on google chrome.
I love your videos, especially if they're not about mainstream anime. Mainstream is good, but a review about lesser known anime would help the industry better and help open the minds of fellow anime fans to new genres.
That outro gave me some Wil Wheaton Tabletop vibes.
Geez. You sure love these kinds of shows. I will admit I love it too when I got to it last year. And I guess I can kinda understand the Certified Frosty rating. It was a very interesting entry and probably one of the very few anime that specifically focuses on voice acting in anime and get it right. Basically, it did what Shirobako didn't. But at the same time, I wouldn't say it was at the absolute best yet. I did somehow find it slightly boring at times. Probably because visually, it wasn't very impressive. That's probably my only major gripe about the show. Other than that, I definitely had a good time with it. And just props to Gonzo for getting actual voice actresses as characters. It makes me wonder why isn't this show more popular because of that. ^_^
Welp, you made me interested. I will defo give this anime a watch as quickly as possible.
You're so knowledgeable! Thank you for your review of "Seiyuu's Life". I only briefly remember it but I know it's great. As for not having English dub, maybe the English dub industry isn't at that level yet and it's better to not have any dub at all than having a bad one?
I met Briana Palencia before. Was sick how she explained the whole voice acting and dubbing process
Even though Shirobako didn't focus on voice acting as much as the other roles, easily the best moment in the series is between Aoi Miyamori and Shizuka Sakaki. (I'm about to spoil that moment, so don't read further if you care about that.) When Aoi sees Shizuka finally take her first big step in her dream to become a voice actress, after so much hard work, and starts crying I couldn't help but tear up myself. Right in the God damn feels man! A super emotional moment that I honestly wasn't expecting that series to have.
IM SO GLAD THIS SHOW IS GETTING THE APPRECIATION IT DESERVED
By the way, Earphones’ third anniversary concert is ongoing now.
I hope you like “Marika Kono” who played Rin Kohana through this anime, because she’s my most favorite seiyu all the time.
I’m glad this show is getting a little attention :) I really enjoyed Seiyu’s Life!
I ADORED this show. And I lost my shit when they sang Slayers in the ending. That's REALLY something you don't see everyday.
I don't watch anime too much anymore but this is one that I HAVE to watch no matter what. Why? Because being a Voice Actor is what I want to do with my life. Thank you for pointing me in the direction of this show! I'll be sure to binge watch it when I have a week with nothing to do. XD
Oh fuck yeah I love Seiyu's Life and thanks for reviewing this
Aoba 😍
Merrily binging my way through 😆🤣 on episode 5 already 😂 you had me at Yui Horie. And Goku tbf XD. And ofc, EMT ♥️♥️♥️
I watched all of Shirobako after having it recommended by a friend and never really got into it, honesty. I kept watching expecting some unique twist or crazy turn of events, but I can't really remember anything notable that the show offers. Well actually, I can recall how absurd some of the character interactions were, haha.
It's the kind of show that appeals to a single kind of audience. If the anime industry doesn't interest you, or you're bored after the first few episodes of this show, don't expect it to change your mind. Whether I just had high expectations or the characters didn't really appeal to my tastes, I might be being a little unfair. But Shirobako simply didn't do anything for me.
That said, I'll check this anime out because of the Certified Frosty, but I'm going in skeptical. Hope this one turns out different.
Genshiken is genius! Just like Shirobako and all those other shows you mentioned. Shirobako and Genshiken are among my favorites of all time and so will remain forever (forever meaning until I die, of course, unless I succeed informing a cult around those anime that will last until the Solar System dies)
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for a show like this to appear.. and it came out in 2015???? I'm disappointed in myself for not finding this and watching it, considering Shirobako is my favorite anime of all time. Well.. time to seek this one out
Only because you've recently reviewed some Netflix "original" series, I'm curious if you're planning on reviewing "Devilman Crybaby". I've seen a lot of reviews calling it "anime of the year" but I'm curious to hear your take on it. Although, given your reaction to "Parasyte" I can understand if the body horror aspect has you put off.
I’d love to see a review for Re:Creators next
I really enjoyed this one too! You are not alone~~
I didn’t expect this
Girlish Number is really fun to watch, with a main character reminiscent of Isshiki Iroha from Oregairu (not really surprising, since they were written by the same author)
What are the names of the other shows mentioned about anime production?
If my sister ever agrees to see this, she would love it, because she likes to find out about seiyu's in spain, so thanks to give the voice!!!
I love Hiroshi Kamiya's cameo in this. Im a big fan of his and I hesrd about this show through that particular cameo. The show is very fun and cute to boot.
10:39 Uh-oh, death flag. What have you done, Arkada? D:
So where can I find this video links anyone? ( not the anime episodes...the va's)
First time I ever see a review of this anime
The manga was drawn by the author of Hayate the combat butler.
I consider getting it if FUNimation were to release it on Blu-ray.I imagine they’ll like it since I enjoyed Shiro Bako to pieces
I like moe, but the story does sound interesting. I am going to check it out sir. Thank you for the recommendation.
Is there a good place to read source material for anime (light novels or manga and also after being translated to english) legally? asking because I've been look around but can't decide if the sites I find are legal or not... so I tend to not touch them.
please no subscriptions.. that might be a little tricky for me to pay since my cash flow isn't exactly stable....
this will make a good number 1250 on my plan to watch list
Please do a review on A Place Farther Than The Universe!!!!!
im looking to start a new collection of manga books, could you help me pick, I have a chance of attack on titan 6 volumes, tokyo ghoul 3 volumes, one piece 6 volumes & one punch man 3 volumes
I think the reason why we don't see don't see many shows like this is because people have a tendency to think that "writers writing about writers writing" to be pretentious, or if not that they don't want to write about about what they do every day.
Make an anime&manga collection room/studio tour!!!!!!!!
Finally someone talk about this anime
This is one of the most underrated anime. Regardless it has cute girls or not, the details that went in is just so well done. You really *learn* some things after watching this about a seiyuu's life.
came for kawaii girls sees you.........
close enough
wait no i take that back give me kawaii
Reiri is one of my favorite voice actors
Can you review Tokyo Ghoul:re? The first season just ended, and I think you're thoughts on it would be appreciated! :)
Rie takahashi is awesome
I agree!
My seiyuu crush (who's not Hayami Saori)
Arkada check out "Voice Over! Seiyu Academy". The manga was officially brought over to America. I don't know if its good but its worth a shot based on your enthusiasm.
Megumin's the MC? Sold.
Review Rokka No Yuusha.
well, It's my first time hearing about this, and I'm interested.
This sounds like somthing I'd love as much as Shirobako
Surprised he didn't bring up her likeness to Yuki, considering she's one of his favorite characters
