- I've had a poster for a particular show hanging behind me since the summer. It's a wonderfully moving (heh) series, so much that I felt, even if it's already been talked about to death by others and recommended to high heaven, I needed to join in.

I’m one of those people that just doesn’t like “cute girls doing cute things” type shows
But this Corona Quarantine gave me the time and just gave it a chance on GR’s recommendation... and wow this anime is deeply moving and thoughtful, what an amazing piece of art this thing is... if someone read this please watch it... it has some really good life lessons and great written characters, every high schooler should watch this
Thank you GR!... I would’ve never watch this if it weren’t for your review... and I would’ve missed out on something special!!
With a poster that big behind you, I figured you had to like it a little bit.
Small fandom but loud. I cannot tell you how much this fucking series made me so inspired to be something more than what i was. TO NOT HOLD BACK ON ANYTHING. These girls were the fucking foundation of everything I always wanted to be. Beautiful art, cute girls, REAL CHARACTERS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL WITHOUT IT BEING SO FORCED. It was such a great experience for me. This whole feeling of wasting away your youth, theres no other feeling I could possibly legit cry from than this alone. I felt so damn happy by the ending of it. I rlly would put this as anime for anime of the year tbh.
Also Hinata best girl
Dam glass reflection be cranking out these anime reviews and I love it.
It's the Review week of Awesome
@@snivyian2199 Strangely hardly any announcements except for the patreon poll a few weeks ago...
He didn't mention it in any of the videos. I wonder if he's got a surprise waiting...
MirageGSM He announced it on twitter
@@thegamemaster1514 Ah, okay, that would explain it, since I only follow him here and on Patreon. Thanks.
I was in the Navy for 20 years and I loved the the stuff with the trip on the ship. Very accurate with their rooms, how the ship rolls, and other background details.
The attention to detail is brilliant. I live in Perth (the city that Fremantle is a part of). They perfectly recreated the areas they explored: the docks, the market, even the alley between two buildings where they pile up the foodstuffs (I literally go for a drink at the pub that would be 180 degrees to the camera perspective in that shot). The audio even matches.
This show is also objectively a textbook of how to make a good amine series. Each episode is carefully structured and paced, each tells a story and collectively they contribute to the narrative of the entire show. Each episode by each episode we form an attachment to the characters, and the ending wraps up the storey in a satisfying fashion. No many shows these days are able to do that

Nicholas true
This was literally the show that taught me the definition of good pacing and build up. It was amazing... This definately has a special place in my heart.
Madhouse at its finest my dudes, still the best anime studio.
This show has raised the bar for character chemistry, cards on the table. In spite of the smorgasbord of series that took the spotlight throughout the year, APFTTU still resonates with me greatly for leveraging the following Jung quote: The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.
Anime of the year, seriously.
Second for me, and Seishun Buta Yarou as First
@@Icesolate Both are really close, idk which one I'd put first either
@@negboardperds8503 true seishun isnt over yet, but at the rate its going, its definitely up there for me
Uhhh Violet Evergarden, Bunny Girl Senpai, That time I got reincarnated as a Slime, Hinamatsuri and ReLife are my picks. And if possible Steins;Gate 0. But I think A place further than the Universe should be number one for now.
either this, Bunny Girl-senpai, After the Rain, Revue Starlight or Bloom Into You. this year has been stacked
I guess you can say it's a bizarre adventure.
Justin Y. No comment
Leave. Now.
Don’t you mean “a blizzard adventure”?
Hilarious and Original
Is this some sort of reference?
Yuru Camp was beyond adorable!
A place further than the universe was my favorite show that season.
For a long time, my favorite anime was set in stone. Than I watched A Place Further Than the Universe. Especially at a time in my life when I was feeling stuck, like I was afraid to take a leap to really do something and just traveling the path I had in front of me, it just meant so much and I loved it to such an extent. Need to rewatch it soon
Same for me. For about 9-10 years, my top 1-2 were always Toradora and Clannad Afterstory. I felt a few others came close, like Anohana for example. After my first watch of this series, I initially placed it in my top 5. Recently, however, I had been thinking about this series more and more. After rewatching it again, I begin to pick up on a whole bunch of things I had missed previously, and then I realize how amazingly well-crafted the series was, and I also realized that many of the emotional scenes hit me a lot harder than Toradora and Clannad Afterstory did. It hits at such a raw human level that majority of people could relate to. It is now my favourite of all time.
This show hit me in a way that no other show has been able to. I just love everything about it, and I will continue to love everything about it till the end of time
I gave this show a 9.5 until after the end credits. The insert wishing me luck on my own journey in life fucked me up, 10/10 show.
I doubt I’ll ever forget this series :)
Is it just me or is Arkada going on a huge binge and getting these reviews out like super quick? Not that I'm complaining and not that the videos are ever bad, I just noticed is all.
One of the hidden gems of this year, you said it all and for anyone who did not see it yet, just go watch it, words cannot explain the positivity that comes out of this show.
No other show made me cry like this
You know a show is good when it can devastate you emotionally harder than violet evergarden and devilman crybaby combined
Dammit, you and Gigguk talked about this show so much that I'm going to try to find the time to watch it soon just to at least not feel bothered everytime you bring it up.
Sir, your way of expressing gives me chills. It's so heartwarming....
Really knocking these out of the park. What a merry Christmas you've given us.
Woah what? This show only came out in 2018? I could have sworn it was older. It's already settled into that category of all-time classics in the back of my mind.
Enjoyed the series much. Would love to see a sequel or follow up movie on what happened after they returned home, what the Antarctica exploration crew are doing, and perhaps the 4 girls plus Megumi, the girl left behind, all taking another holiday trip to another destination together to see how their relationships are holding up.
There's no frosty show this year
Also Arkada throwing videos left and right like a madman
I’d like an OVA where they bring along Megumi. She still has a plausible character arc to complete. Start her off as an an outsider to the group and end with her fully friends with everyone.
It would be interesting to see if Megumi apologizes to Shirase for almost sabotaging the Antarctica plans and if Shirase forgives her. There is also the open thread of Hinata and her former track team teammates and what happened to their relationships after Shirase spoke her mind.
the scene when the girls find the Laptop,...i cried so hard......
I JUST marathoned the shit out of this and it is definitely one of my top three anime of the year. I was a little hesitant at first because I was hoping this wouldn’t be a “cute girls doing cute things” show, but this show really did a great job of developing each and every one of the characters.
Even when I went into it with high expectations, the show managed to exceed those expectations. I hope this show sells well and gets a lot of respect. It deserves every bit of it.
Your last 3 videos were my "list of videos i want glass reflection to make" you really nailed it
Since I saw its first episode I felt it had something special. Now I can say "A Place Further Than the Universe" is the Anime of The Year. A nice year, this 2018.
The penultimate episode of this show will make you bawl your eyes out. But that's a good thing.
Every weekday had a video, this has been a fantastic "Review week of Omelet" best one yet!
It might say more about me than the show, but I feel like processing grief and moving on is as big a focus of the story as friendship. Lots of time is spent on both Shirase and Gin processing Takako's death, as well as trying to figure out where their troubled relationship stands.
AOTY by a wide margin. It even inspired me to make a trip to the Polar Science Museum in Tachikawa (seen in episode 3).
I am not sure if this week of videos even made it to my subscription box. Crazy!
I just wanted to say I’ve Ben watching you for years now and look to you for recommendations because are taste in anime are alike thanks again for another great anime for me to watch looking forward to more videos.
I haven't seen you make a glowing review like this in a while. Thanks, Arkada!
Got to say man its awesome that you're uploading more frequently. I know it's a lot of work but man your reviews are awesome! Keep up the great work
Bold opening there Arcada! 😁 A true line in the sand moment. But this is - this year - the anime most deserving of that line.
Now that giant poster behind you makes sense...
I've chosen Hinamatsuri as my favorite anime of 2018 bit this is definitely a very close second
This series has and will always be my favorite. I am so glad you feel the same.
Even though i'm only one second into the video, i already know what i want to say:
You took your time, but it was worth it!
Now i'm just hoping for a certified frosty after i finished the video
Edit: huh, guess you don't do ratings anymore whoops...
Anyway.
Wow!
I didn't expect so much enthusiasm on your side, but i guess this just shows how good sora yori really is.
I applauded at the end of the video and i also applauded at the end of the series, so yeah, this was satisfying to watch.
I really need to give this show another watch, even though i know that it will make me feel extremely good, but also extremely depressed and in self loath, as a show about teenage girls doing more in a few months than you will most likely ever achieve in your whole life Does.
I was watching this video with my brother and when he said to show them the show my brother ran out the room !!
I hope this show never gets a second season. I love this show so much, but everything it stands for it completes. If it got a second season it would undermine what made the show so good.
I really like how you uploaded a review every day this week! Is this like a bonus review week of awesome?
"Coming of age" is a term I do not see being used much anymore, but it fits this anime to a T.
I started actually liking this show once they got on the ship. I loved that scene when Shirase gave a speech to all the people they were going with to Antarctica, from that point I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I was close to dropping it because first episodes were quite boring.
This show is an shōnen adventure show disguised as a moe blob show. It has more happen in the first episode then the entirety of K-On!. I dropped K-On! At episode 4. This one made me cry in the last episode.
Apfttu, looks like a moe show but becomes the most heartfelt and beautiful show you've ever seen
A Place further than the Universe: My Anime of the Year. 10/10.
I love this series so much. To everyone saying it's overrated, just watch what you want to watch and stop trying to shut up the people gushing about it.
That's it, that's a wrap. Pack it down, folks. Review Week of Awesome has concluded.
I always like watching your reviews! Really good quality
Thank you for this reccomendation. I'm going to check it out now. You've done your job my friend!
Also, another driving motive for watching it now is at the end, you reccomend other animes. So having watched Laid Back Camp, and you kinda linking it with this series gives me further motive to FIND the time to watch this. Not just a few moments here or there. No I will make time for this anime now. Thank you, and I look forward to another great year of your work!
Violet Evergarden or (maybe) Bunny Girl Senpai will be my AOTY.
I’d be lying if I said this isn’t directly behind.
Having 3 truly exceptional series for a year, that aren’t sequels, is awesome.
Violet evergarden and A place further than the universe are my top 2 animes of 2018 i hope one of them win AOTY
This is honestly my favorite show this year
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS!
Great review. My personal favorite anime of 2018.
Almost shed a tear by the end of the review.
You deserve more subs tbh
Ugh, God, this anime means so much to me.
Not counting sequels, this is anime of the year right here.
I'm not a fan of most cute girls shows, but this one is brilliant.
Taking reviews to another level
Just watched the entire series and it was fantastic!
To be honest, I waited 2 seasons to watch it, because I couldn't understand how it would be interesting. But, 1st episode I was absolutely hooked
Yes.
Best anime of the year!
Bless cute girls doing cute things
You know what they should do? Make all the regular good shows, but also replace all the characters with cute girls. Why should I be looking at some character when I could be looking at a cute girl?!
Indeed
That be great
Its amazing girls doing amazing things
FBINIS LIFE
@@thomaster8870 woah there, I'm all for cute girls, but I still need my overly manly, sexually insecure shows like Jojo and North Star.
I wish I had friends who liked anime but sadly no 😔 but anyway I still need 2 watch this anime once it comes out on blu-ray since I only have Funimation and Netflix but I only hear good things about this series
If you get the VRV app or visit their website, you can watch it on there without a subscription. Completely free
Gosh I love this show. I cried at the end.
Now I wanna watch it again :(
This and violet evergarden are currently on my top animes of 2018
Thank you for adding Japanese to the subtitles.
from Japan
Can you please watch Hakumei to Mikochi? It's also a Iyashikei show released this year.
Someone’s recommend this to the Sage
Hey arcada (if I got that right?) I made the top 10 wanted Gundam crossovers (just letting you know) if you want interested. And what other franchises would a great Gundam crossovers yet?
i know it's off topic, but does anyone have the slightest idea of when the Haruhi Suzumiya light novels might continue?
The almighty algo led me here and I need to know... where did you get that poster??
Its top 5 anime for me honestly.
I have been putting off this anime because the visuals reminded me of K-On which I’m sorry I am extremely don’t like. I sat and watch the whole season 1 then realising there’s a season 2 which I couldn’t watch, I thought I don’t like the genre slice of life but I’m into deep story anime’s then character development. (Fav are death note, clannad ect...) thank you for the review cause I’m extremely interested in this anime. Your intro saying those “people” is me Hahahah :)
Hey Ark can you please do a video on any Manga series you think deserves an anime series. I think you should read Five Star Stories by Mamoru Nagano( and review Five Star Stories ova and Heavy Metal L Gaim.)
I know it seems like I'm in a minority on this one, but while I did really enjoy the show and thought it was very good, it never really blew me away or moved me deeply on an emotional level, like Violet Evergarden or Clannad: After Story did. So yeah, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me, but I definitely enjoyed the experience quite a bit though. The last two episodes were the best part for sure.
So was this like a review week of awesome without the voting? Or was it Patreon only or something
"then you need to shut them out of your life" I couldn't stop laughing 🤣
The ending of episode 12 got me bad the emails the reaction the laptop
I watched it when it was airing, and also recently rewatched it. An OVA would be great. I liked the art style, the white outline on their hair. Thank you for talking about this show. Oh and YuruCamp is a mustsee as well
Best anime i guess... i actually cried.... alot...
After watching Clannad After story and Your lie in April. I didnt get any feels from this Anime. But it was good.
If you make a review of Banana Fish I'd watch A place further than the universe
Which character did you see yourself in the most? For me it was probably shirase
okasan! OKAAASAANNN!!!!
Sooooo, Antarctica is Certified Frosty?
Any anime that can make me weep like a bitch 6 episodes straight is AotY in my book.
Is this Review Week Of Awesome?
what's the Name of this 2:51 one
Merry Christmas dude
Been waiting for this review ever since I saw the poster pop up on your wall ;3 Easily my favorite show of the year if not quite possibly one of my personal favorites ever ^^
Honestly same 😁✋
I feel like it's AOTY
easily on my favorite show of all time list too
I agree. No extra season, but some OVA would not hurt.
Yes, best anime of the year
Yes, best girls of the year
Everyone's opinion on best anime of the year is different, but I think Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai has this series beat on best girls of the year.
@@kcsupersonic1 planing on binge watching it before the year ends. It seems like a serious contender.
@@Kockafalva The character development and dialogue are excellent in Bunny Girl. The show really makes the main characters feel like real people and the wit and humorous moments are on point. It is definitely more of a thinker's show with more complex motivations so it can leave you emotionally and mentally drained at times (much like Violet Evergarden in that respect), but I would not let the fact that it isn't a simple point A to destination B series deter anyone from giving it a chance.
@@kcsupersonic1 tbh if Bunny Girl Senpai didnt have the fake gf arc it would have my vote, but Yorimoi tales it for me
oh boy another video praising this anime, I could watch these videos forever
Corn Kopp You and me both.
All these anime reviewers praising this anime makes me so happy
HentaiHaven is now in a place further than the universe
Too soon bro, too soon
F
You can say it is on hentai's heaven
F
Too soon u monster!
This shit was so good. I started tearing up as soon as the op played in the video. AOTY 2018
Same.
the ending moments of episode 12 got me so bad and the emails in the laptop were killing me
