Vampire crabs are absolute units. When I first got my male sp. Tomato, his hind leg wasn’t working and there was some black dot on his joint. A few weeks later, I caught him ripping his own leg off and eating it. Crazy way to convert matter/energy.
Awesome, he should survive if your feeding him, I had a shrimp lose all appendages after a molt and it was more like a tadpole than a shrimp, i made sure it got food and when it molted it had tiny arms and legs, after a few more molts it was back to normal, good luck with the crab. 👍
Wow! I didn't even know that could happen to shrimp! That would have been so weird to watch getting around your tank! This crab has perked up a bit over the last 2 weeks. Prior to that he just sat in one spot basically.
You're taking great care of Kevin! 😊 Keeping my fingers and toes crossed that he'll get his claws back after molting and that he'll have no issues molting. Hope you're enjoying your weekend 🙂👍
It will be interesting to see how it works. I have seen them grow back 1 claw and 2 legs but never anything more than that. So 2 full claws will be a lot of energy to dedicate to the task!
Me to! It's funny watching the males go through their dominant phases. They roam around looking for brawls and as soon as they lose one claw they go into submission and basically hide or evade as much as possible. This guy went straight from one fight into another within a short distance. Prior to that he was easily identified by a big dint in on of his claws. I'll get everyone updated on his progress 😊
@@terraquaman2! Wow they must have been getting really rough! They should grow them back without too much issue, unless they are old. They are quite good at using their front legs to scoop up food which is pretty interesting to see.
@@IndoorEcosystem yeah ! Okey cool let’s hope they will 😊 The thing is that they’ve also lost a few front legs… I have no idea what they were fighting about !
@@terraquaman they can grow back everything except for eyes at that I've seen. Funnily they fight about anything and everything. But I get the feeling the temperature at the moment is a driving cause. The hotter it gets the more fighting I've noticed in my tanks as well.
Sadly he didn't make it but I think he actually died of old age in the end. I made a community post about it a while back if you want to check it out for a bit more detail. But the method worked perfectly and he was eating with his legs till the day he died.
Aww that's sad to hear😢 I noticed mine trying to eat but isn't as flexible as Kevin and can't quite put his other legs to his mouth. I noticed he just tries to put his mouth towards the food. He appears younger though as he's one of the smallest, so hopefully he ends up molting.
@@Encee2108 He'll figure it out 🙂They are pretty adaptable. As long as there's no other crabs that can take advantage of his clawless existence he should grow them back in a couple of months. Let me know how it goes! I'm kinda invested in new kevin!
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO KEVIN DID HE SURVIVE? i must know what happened after such a thing, also mine has lost claws too soooo knowing would help edit...i read in the coments that he died, i hope mine fairs better, but i dont have high hopes as mine is missing his front legs
He died of old age, I have a community post about the entire scenario but he made it quite a few months. Once they get to a certain age don't seem to bother molting.
@@dovilezanauskiene700 Let me know how it goes! They are pretty tough little critters but he'll need to be able to crawl around and get food and get in and out of the water. If he can do that he might be able to make it!
If it's still alive with no claws they can recover, you just have to keep them separate. They will use their front legs to scoop up food thankfully. Can take a long time before they molt though.

"leaving him unarmed" hahaha the double meaning of that is hillarious xD

Awwes, I’m invested in his recovery. Such a cutie, I hope he learns peace while he recovers, he’s maybe not the best crab warrior 😂

Have you ever managed to save a crab with missing claws?
Ye
At the moment I have two!
I’m setting up a small paludarium for theme as we speak. 😊
Can they get their claws back ?

x2 🤣
Poor little guy, I hope he makes it :(
Awesome editing btw :)

Emm could you please tell me my vampire crab name Elliot has a black dot on his eyes and not smell bad but he is not moving what ever I do
Unfortunately that's not enough information to give any answers for sorry.
Best of luck taking care of Kevin. 😃
So far so good! I'll post an update on how it goes! I really hope he can regrow his claws!

How to take care of Vampire crab that lost all his legs in the fight? Now he have just 2 claws 🤔
Is he able to use his claws to move around? If he can't move around it's probably going to be impossible to save him.
Thank you. I need to observe him more, because it happened just today.
