"having an old friend for dinner" this movie is a masterpiece
At least bug guy who hit on her was straight up and not slimy like the others. Much more respectful, in my opinion.
I love this scene. I think it also shows Clarice getting to understand her advantages as a woman and learning to use them. She was very cold to Chilton from the start, which makes their relationship icy when she needs it to be smooth. I feel like she flirts back with bug guy in part because it builds rapport. You also see her lean on her femininity to get the men to leave, and she calls Crawford out. There are so many moments that remind you she is a woman in a predominately man's world, but never makes her feel weak or incapable. "Everyone trying to take her out" - yeah, and she works with it!
@@CrowR75Jesus, I never thought about it like that. Subtext is so important in films like this.
@@CrowR75
The movie does it so well too. It's not the modern bs of "anything men can do women can do better" stuff. She simply uses her intelligence and femininity in good and respectful way to get things done.
Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar for his performance as Hannibal Lecter and was only 16 minutes on screen
He deserved it. The impact he had w/ such little screen time was amazing to experience
The crazy thing is Anthony Hopkins only had 13 mins of screen time in this movie and he completely KILLED IT.
Really? Crazy. Never thought about it that way!
@@jasonbarton4521 yes! I saw the making of this movie. It’s fascinating when you think about it.
True. Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors
Actually 16 minutes.
DID AN AMAZING JOB🔥
One of my favorite small details in this is when Catherine Martin is been led out of Buffalo Bill's house at the end with that blanket wrapped around her and carrying Bill's dog, she looks exactly like Hannibal's drawing of Clarice holding the lamb..
Well spotted cheers aussie girl x ♥️ 👏
*slow clap*
FYI : They didn’t have security like that in 1991 not even in the airport, he could’ve easily got on a plane
He called that sh!t a "wall cell phone." 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
"I'm having an old friend for dinner" lol coldest ending line ever
He only knew the first girl, the only one weighed down. So she wasn't random, the others were.
How did Hannibal escape the country? This is pre-911, pre-internet, it was much easier to take shit with you on a plane, and get away with fake id’s. It was a different time. Cell phones existed since the 80’s but hardly anyone had one. But car phones were more popular around this time on the consumer level. My dad had one in his Mercury Cougar. 😂
You could still easily travel under aliases then.
"I got faith in Clarice. Stop playin wit my shortie man!". Best line of the reaction.
The role of Clarice was originally offered to Michelle Pfeiffer- she turned it down because it was too dark... Jody Foster leapt at the chance and knocked it out of the park- winning her 2nd Oscar for this performance. Hopkins took classes before the film on not blinking- he wanted Lector's stare to be menacing/terrifying. The year it swept the Oscars- Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay, Billy Crystal was hosting the show- to open the show, he had himself wheeled out like Lector- with the face mask and straight jacket- the audience, including Hopkins, loved it.
I love that the bug dudes are at her graduation lol
1991 was a different time. Cell phones, the internet and really hardcore security standards at airports were in the future. Cell phones were luxury items. The internet was being called the Information Superhighway. Airport security was relatively lax. They still tried to keep you from carrying guns onto the plane, but you could go right into the airport section without checking through things and you could meet people just coming off the plane.
The warden forgetting his pen on Hannibal's bed changed everything.
But lecter was still in the straight jacket when he left. Barney would have been the one to release him. Did Barney give lecter the pen?
@@Xargon87I believe what happened was the pen was accidentally left on his bed, then later he is shown without any restraints alone in his cell, so it is implied he was able to get the pen after his restraints were removed and everyone had left.
@@Xargon87 Yes but Lector was only temporary restrained in the scene. That's why Lector baited Dr. Chilton just enough so that he rushed out and forget the pen. I would take some time for them to arrange the transport, so he wouldn't just be stuck there.
"Big through the hips? Roomy?" LOL
Yup, she was thicc😂😂
Buffalo Bill knew the first girl. He was picking larger girls to make a woman’s suit for himself. He was going to starve them some and made them rub lotion to keep the skin supple so he could skin them easier. He thought he was trans and wanted to look like a woman. Creepy stuff indeed. Hannibal was so smart wasn’t he? This movie won Oscars for Jodie Foster (Clarice), Hopkins (Hannibal) and Best Picture and Best Director. Good reaction guys!
I love it when he says “Have faith in Clarice, stop playing with my Shorty man” 43:40
🤣🤣 knew she would come through!
31:44 “He’s crazy….”
That just struck me as hilarious. Of course we know he’s crazy from the start, but the idea that it was the extra rare lamb chops that finally convinced my man here is pretty comical.
He only knew the first girl. It took them a while to figure it out because she was the third one found and they had to figure out she was the first killed, which made her the obvious subject of Lecter’s hint.
I also have never seen a 900 square foot house with a 2000 square foot multi-room basement lol. It seems like that basement goes on forever.
A true classic and imo, one of Anthony Hopkins best although he had limited screen time which led him to winning a well deserved Oscar. His line on eating liver with fava beans and a nice Chianti will alway be one of the most iconic lines in cinema!
He was dating Martha Stewart when he was filming this movie and that character is why they broke up😂😂😂
❤Great reaction guys. This was pre 911 so you could hop on an airplane ✈ without an ID you just needed a ticket and of course no cell phones. There are 3 more Hannible movies. You are right this was a book. He is one of the smartest characters ever written.
I saw this in the theater when it came out and at the time it was the scariest thing I'd ever seen. I was freaked out for days after. Unfortunately, now that there's true crime availbale for watching and listening to 24/7, I've become desensitized. The next movie, Hannibal, is pretty good and worth watching. Also, Gary Oldman is in it. Need I say more?
The story was partially inspired by the time that the FBI asked serial killer Ted Bundy to create a profile of the green river killer, when they eventually arrested him they realized that Bundys profile was pretty accurate. The scene where Catherine is kidnapped is also inspired by Bundy because he would pretend to have a broken arm and act like he was struggling to get something into his car so a woman would offer to help and then he would hit her over the head and push her into the car.
Buffalo bill was Inspired by several killers but mostly Ed Gein who besides killing a few people he would dig up recently buried bodies and then use their parts to make things like a pair of gloves and a lampshade made from skin and furniture made from bones and skulls.
I read a few months ago that the actors who played Buffalo bill and Catherine actually dated during the filming of the movie.
Jodie foster said that Anthony Hopkins improvised the line where he insulted her shoes and her accent, his insult about the accent hurt her because she said worked hard to perfect a West Virginia accent.
Everyone makes a big deal about her getting too close to the glass of his cell but it would be very thick plexiglass not regular glass. They also get bothered by her telling him too much about herself but her being open to Hannibal is what made him want to help her.
Security on airplanes and at airports was not nearly so stringent when this movie was made,it would have been easy for lector to make it through undetected.
Live the Iron Maiden shirt! Up the irons🤘🏼🤘🏼
This movie came out in 1991 when it was way easier to get on a plane.
Great movie and review….
The brilliance of this movie is that we know Hannibal is a monster but we're absolutely cheering him on to eat Dr Chilton at the end. That speaks to the performance by Anthony Hopkins. He absolutely deserved his Oscar! Loved y'all's reactions!
Dude who played Dr Chilton nailed it too. I. Hate. Him. 😂
Yeah. Chilton’s not exactly a likable character.
Bruh, Jodie Foster ain't no size 14🤣🤣🤣
I know, I’m about a 12…I’m 5’3 and 160 …Jodie was tiny like a 6-8 lol
🤣🤣
Oh wait…was she a great big fat person?
In 1991 the senator’s daughter was. Now size 14’s are considered normal.
This reaction did NOT disappoint! Y'all funny af! I'm over here holding my side laughing.
We appreciate you & happy you enjoyed our reaction💙 This movie had us in a chokehold 🔥
In case you missed how "Multiple" Miggs died (criminal in cell next to Hannibal), Hannibal actually talked him into swallowing his own tongue and commit $ui$ide. This is just how good he is at getting into others heads, and why Jack Crawford told Clarice NOT to tell him anything personal about her, "That last thing you want is Hannibal Lectre in your head"
P.S. I believe "Multiple" was a nickname for Miggs because he most likely had multiple personalities.
Oh it wasn’t Miguel Migs?
A great house DJ.
"I'm having an old friend for dinner" Literally!
I’ve watched this quite a few reactors. You guys were way more right than most. I really enjoyed it. You’re smart kids
One of the best serial killers characters, not a rapist, not killing kids, don’t like disrespect yeah he ate them but in such 3 Michelin restaurants lol . I love it you should see the show of it with Mads milkkelsens ❤ greetings from France 🇫🇷
Indeed
The reason she didn't call for back up right away is because she was afraid he was going to kill her right away.
Jodi Foster said in an interview years later that she avoided Anthony Hopkins on set. He was so amazing in this role that he scared her. Realize, she wasn't new to Hollywood. She was nominated for an Oscar about 15 years earlier when she was only 14 years old.
She was a rookie for this movie, but Anthony Hopkins was amazing!
They both won the Academy Award for their roles in this movie.
It’s intimidating as heck to be the only woman in a room full of men. With guns. Just…doesn’t feel good. No matter how tough we are - men are usually stronger. It’s a sucky feeling. It’s why women(this one) are drawn to true crime - we’re always looking for signs and/or to prepare ourselves for the worst. What to do if u’re attacked, kidnapped, etc. It’s weird. Givin’ u boys a peek behind the (scaredy) curtain.😉
I think you would be interested in an excellent book about avoiding being the victim of a crime then. It’s called “The Gift Of Fear” by Gavin de Becker. He has given advice to celebrities (among other people) on how to deal with stalkers. One of the most important points he makes is that being charming is not, at all, the same as being good. Many people mistake the two when interacting with others. They mix up acting nice with actually being nice and get trapped as a result. I highly recommend the book to anyone, especially women.
@@MsAppassionata honestly…thank u so much for this. It means a lot to have someone I don’t know suggest solutions that’ll help without condescension or getting anything in return. It’s appreciated more than u know🖖
@@deenormus1975 You’re very welcome! ☺️👍🏽
Men also have their feelings about a woman in the room.
@@pedrogudino1133 oh I’m aware. That’s usually the problem. Lol And I love men! Been with my guy for 14+ years. Still. Standing in a group of men as the only woman…intimidating.
Most times in the movie, when they ask what size are you?, they are generally referring to the person's skin so they can wear it.
Dig the Iron Maiden shirt man, I saw that tour in '82, I believe. I first saw them a couple years earlier as a backup band to Judas Priest. Keep up the reactions I'm enjoying both of your perspective's on everything.
They did explain why Buffalo Bill was doing it. He hated his own identity after years of abuse as a child, and thought he was a transexual. But he got denied when he applied for sex reassignment surgery because he wasn’t really a transexual. So he decided to make himself a skin suit that he could wear, to pretend to be a woman. He knew the first victim but the rest of the victims were chosen because they were size 14’s which is what he needed for his skin suit. All of this was explained in the film!
Exactly.
I remember when a profiler was watching Hannibal Lecter in the brief time on screen. The profiler basically said he would have laughed in Hannibals face, seeing as how the serials he interviewed never behaved like Lecter.
This movie is a terrifying masterpiece
Got watch them all fellas😊, thanks for sharing 😊👍✌️🇺🇸
We will get to them all at some point🔥
They didn’t have cell phones back then so Clarice couldn’t call for backup. If she left to go find a phone Buffalo Bill could flee or kill the woman he kidnapped.
When Lecter said "I'm having an old friend for dinner", he was talking about Dr. Chilton
We knew right away what he meant🔥
Pro tip, the best copy of buffalo bill is by Jay and silent Bob in Clerks 2. Type in here, Jay does buffalo Bill dance!
I found something new to me and strange at 27:47 the policeman says "is it true what they are saying ? What ? Hes a vampire ? She says no they don't have a name for what he is "! Why did she instill deep fear into the guards ? And it worked look how scared they all was when he escaped ! I have watched this movie many times !
This is more psychological thriller, and mystery. Even with horrific elements.
If you want to check out other physiological investigation shows like this I highly recommend Manhunt: Unabomber staring Sam Worthington. It's about the FBI agent who pioneered a new form of profiling that tracked down the Unabomber. Also Mindhunter. This show features the beginning of the FBI studding serial killers and criminal pathology.
Have you ever seen the movie, The Cell?
I so agree
MIND-HUNTER was so good 👵🏻👍🏻♥️
If you had been Lecter's patient and he DIDN 'T eat you, I bet he still would've changed you for life. I swear Lecter's two guards keep forgetting whose name is whose. Which one got blood-eagled and who got defaced?
Nice shirt, Sheim! 🤘🏼
Yay!!! Patreon IS awesome but I'm definitely gonna watch on here ,too!! So excited for Primal Fear!❤❤❤
💙💙
She doesn't check the corners when she's after Buffalo Bill. After that scene that makes a point of telling her to check the corners, she doesn't check the corners.
Hannibal murdered a tourist after the ambulance crew and stole his clothes, which explains how he travelled.
Dang ya'll are attractive men.... here for it!!!
8:06 lol yall reaction to this moment was hilarious. That was disgusting though.
35:16 enjoyed seeing this realization hit
One of my favorite movies. Enjoyed your reaction to it.
Can’t believe he threw that shit on her face🤣 Hannibal is a one of a kind finesser! We loved this movie & happy you enjoyed our reaction💙
Just found you both. You are very smart and you don’t over talk. You’re great!
Guys she could not shoot him so she could find Catherine. And she signed up to be FBI, she’s got to go after him.😀
Yep
lecter convinced miggs to kill himself by telling him how to swallow his own tongue.
Yesssss I'm happy for this reaction.
This is my favourite movie of Alllll time
We hope you enjoyed our reaction💙
That was fun to watch with ya! Smart and handsome!
I love how quick yall got what he was up to.
Dude, LOVE the Maiden shirt!😎🤘
What always stuck out to me is when Clarice is giving her most likely output of the killer saying that he needs a house to do all of his horrible stuff when just a year later Dahmer did all of his horrible stuff in a tiny apartment too though
Great reaction to one of my favorite movies and books. I have a movie recommendation, Fallen starring Denzel Washington, John Goodman and Donald Sutherland. I cannot wait to see the reaction to The Exorcist. I saw that movie at the Drive-in when I was 14, maybe 15, it's the only movie that has ever literally scared me.
Yes , “Fallen “
I totally agree
I’m In !!!!!!
Absolutely loved that movie of
Denzel Washington’s
👵🏻👍🏻♥️
Enjoyed watching this with you guys:)
👵🏻👍🏻
I totally agree
Mamaw from Arkansas
Loved their reaction
We appreciate you & happy you enjoyed it💙
We appreciate you Mamaw💙💙
Sometimes people's wondering how Hannibal get the pencil. I think we can guess it by the line of Lector talking to Dr. Chilton during their conversation. He said ".... I have my own condition "
That line tells us he had some chance to steal it even though it is not shown in the movie.
A most glorious reaction gentlemen, got me grinnin' ear to ear. Many thanks.
👵🏻👍🏻
Much love💙
35:21 Hannibal is crafty AF 😂💯🎬
Wall cell phones had me dying! 😂
🤣🤣 those things were before our time
Actor who plays Buffalo Bill, Ted Levine is in a very cool movie with Tupac, Mickey Rourke "BULLET" AN EXCELLENT FILM!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Haha, it was a hoot watching you guys react to this. I watched this in the theater and it made me really jump in places. Brilliant book, brilliant film! Btw, Clarice didn't know Buffalo Bill had no way out of the basement. It was her first time at his house. She had expected to find the seamstress Mrs. Lippman there. She stumbled on to BB instead. And she was still in training with no field experience, so she couldn't react quickly to him getting out of the kitchen with his hands up. I found the whole thing quite realistic. Jonathan Demme sure was a great director. RIP to a real talent.
Anthony Hopkins gave one of the greatest and unforgettable performances in cinema history.
The crazy thing is that although he’s a cannibalistic psychopath we the audience secretly are on his side and want to him to escape to freedom and it’s down to Leckter’s sinister but seductive charm.
As usual, y’all had me ROLLING throughout this whole reaction 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 This movie scares the shit outta me but I had to see your reaction. Totally worth it! 😂😂😂 As I’m typing this one of y’all said “…wall cell phones” and I lost it! 😆
Great reaction, Now you need to watch the second one of the trilogy “Hannibal” 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Totally agree
👵🏻👍🏻🎉🍿
Hannibal next
This movie and the Texas chainsaw massacre is kind of based off of this grave robber/killer Ed Gein, he was like a psychopath that collected human skin and made furniture off of it.
Buffalo Bill is also based on Ted Bundy since he used to lure in his victims (also women) in the same way by pretending to be injured and needing help loading or unloading something in his car, then knocking them unconscious.
First time watching and Great reaction to this movie. Liked the length (longer than most and great editing) and Loved the Eddie shirt, had that one too as a kid🤘👊💥💥💥
Red Dragon the movie shows how Hannibal was captured before Clarice visit.
39:03 - killed me with that ‘plump’ comment 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I really hope that you'll react to Michael Mann's "Manhunter." "Silence of the Lambs" is the sequel to "Manhunter." "Manhunter" is based on the novel "Red Dragon." "Red Dragon" was adapted into as a film a second time but kept the novel's original title. Hands down, "Manhunter" is the superior version. I definitely watch that BEFORE watching "Red Dragon." While "Red Dragon" has Anthony Hopkins, it's a weaker adaption of the novel.
"It rubs the lotion on its skin, it does this whenever it's told !"
You don't wanna hear a sentence like that in real life...
Perfect reaction!
💙
Guess Hannibal killed a passenger waiting for a flight who looked similar to him, took his passport and money. Maybe in a back airport room. Great reaction.
That’s what we talked about after we got done doing the recap! We appreciate you💙
Her goal was to save the lamb in the well. That’s why she went after him.
Great take, guys. A masterpiece for sure. Had you on the edge of your seat ;
We appreciate you & it definitely did! We enjoyed this movie in its entirety🔥
Perceptive reaction. Enjoyed watching you solving the mystery.
I truly enjoy you guys realness. As a brother from Chicago west side You guys are my neighbors. The difference is you're unafraid to watch different shit and be real
We appreciate you & this message. That’s one thing we always try to do is be open minded & give everything the chance it deserves whether it fits the norms of what we would typically watch! You never know what shows/movies you could like if you don’t expose yourself to it openly. Much love💙
Hopkins and Jody Foster won OSCARS for this👍🏼👍🏼
Can’t scroll by two nice looking guys watching a good movie! Let’s go!
Didn't watch this particular reaction. I saw this movie when it first came out and it freaked me out to the point where I could not watch it again. My husband used to work nights and he would call me up (I was home alone) and he would imitate Anthony Hopkins by saying "hello Clarice" as he thought it was funny to scare me. I got even though. I jumped out at him while he was taking a shower and scared him pretty good. At any rate good for you for taking on such a creepy movie. In the meantime, I am anxiously awaiting for you to finish Harry Potter. Love your channel/reactions! 😀
There is a correct order, so watch these. In order. Dressed to Kill by the great Brian DePalma! U will see many of the themes in this movie ur watching, in Dressed to Kill. There's also a almost missable mention of Lector, as a footnote on a brilliant pyschiatrist who figures out a problem with a person, near the end of that movie. Next is Manhunter, by the genius Micheal Mann! It's look ,sound, camera work, music, all very 80s! Also it stars my favorite Lecktor! Brian Cox!. Many of the actors from Manhunter, are also in this movie ur watching. Then u have this movie now, then Hannibal, which is directed by Ridley Scott, and Gary Oldman should have won an Oscar for his part! Last is Red Dragon but u can skip that one, it's more of a Manhunter reboot, but it does say at the end, how he meets Clarice! Another irony here is, the guy who plays buffalo Bill and the guy who plays The Tooth Fairy, are both in Micheal Mann movie, Heat! and Barney is in this, Manhunter, and Hannibal! Also if u watch Clerks and Clerks 2, Jay does a perfect cover of Buffalo Bill! Also Dr Lecktor add-libbed his analysis of Clarice about her being west Virginia, poor white trash, etc. And it was also their first scene together. He said he completely avoided Starling, before their first scene. She said he truly terrified her! That she could barely make it on set, to act with him! The reason Lecktor likes Starling is because he trusts her, and also she's a real person with real psychological problems, nothing like his normal rich city folk patients. She has no duality or guile or false intentions, about her.
Multiple Miggs could smell her lunch. Clarice was tripping.
Good instincts. FBI agents do not approach suspects and witnesses alone. It's policy and has been since a bad incident many years ago. On a few occasions, I've had one agent come to talk about one of my cases, but for anything operational, it's always a pair. Of course, that would have spoiled the story here.
Dude actually said wall cellphones 51:10
🤣🤣 He’s crazy for that one
It swept the Oscars.
he only knew the first girl- the rest he just hunted.
P.S. It was very lax security at airports (compared to today) pre-911. Since this movie came out in 1991, he definitely could've made it out of the US. Also, he is a master at manipulation. So he wouldn't have much problems talking others into helping him, unwittingly.
Great reaction to an absolute classic! Awesome job guys, keep it up!
We appreciate you & the support I’ve shown us💙 gonna have to do more classics for sure!
Haha no Clarice is far from a size 14.
Dr Lecter NOT a vampire. Remember what Clarice called "the good doctor" at the very start of the movie? HANNIBAL THE ... ?!
You're gonna have to watch Hannibal as well.
👵🏻👍🏻
You should definitely check out the sequel "Hannibal" (2001)
40:26
Oh naw, you went there. 😢😂
🤣🤣
