On the 2nd August 2023 the eyewall of powerful typhoon Khanun passed to the south of Okinawa - usually this would be a "bust" in storm chasing terms. However Khanun was no ordinary typhoon...

Thanks!
Thanks so much Paul!!
The amount of water with rainfall is amazing - we have storm Agnes heading our way tomorrow and it’ll seem like a limp version of the typhoons over there. Good work stay safe James.
Thanks so much for watching Liam! Wait until you see the next video I'm working on, that storm had some of the highest rainfall rates I've ever seen. Good luck with Agnes!
Awesome video! Love your editing and footage.
Thank you so much! 🍻
Truly amazing footage of great quality, James! Having that outer eyewall developing as it was passing over the southern portion of Okinawa made a world of a difference, and you captured it with much skill!
Thanks so much Jose!! There was a really interesting SAR image which showed how far to the north that wind field extended. I've filmed enough crappy storms over the years to know the good places to be to shoot them, but the Khanun did surprise me with it's spiciness!
Another fantastic video and commentary, James! Those winds and waves were incredible. I dread to think what it would have been like in the eyewall after seeing what you experienced 100s of miles away from it 😳. Thanks for being one of the very few that are brave enough to document these storms and share them with the rest of the world!
Thanks so much Lois - I really appreciate it! :)
Good stuff. Thx!
Thanks for watching!!
Wow 😮amazing typhoon capture
Awesome work as always James, love the footage and the editing!
Thanks so much Stef - hope you're doing well and enjoying life!
@@EarthUncutTV Things are good here James, thanks! I hope the same goes for you. I see good things on FB :)
Great documentary and good chase Mr James hoping we got to see some more.
Thanks so much! A few more to work on
Typhoon KHANUN's impacts on Okinawa were really such a surprise, definitely a lot more wind than you'd normally expect from the CPA to the island this one had! Your shots are beautiful as always, and this was truly an awesome intercept!
Thank you so much Michael - your supportive messages always means a lot!
One thing I can definitely say since I have been watching your Storm chasing videos all of your video footage is on point and that says a lot about your experience for chasing typhoons.
Thank you so much and I really appreciate you taking time to watch my videos!
@@EarthUncutTV you’re most welcome 🙏 my friend just keep up the good work and most importantly stay safe.
impressive!
You said it knocked out power to a quarter of the island; it was far greater than a quarter of the island without power - many of which went for upwards for more than a week/closer to two. You also didn’t mention how it swung back and hit a second time as a lesser storm only two days later.
the winds were that strong because the storm had second eyewall
Hi
Do they evacuate like they do in the US?
