I love theses Walk that you showing us the city Ye the story about the You are a caring son God bless you and your Mom may God give her strength 😘😘❤️👍💯🙏🌈🥰🤩😍🌹🌹
Love that old skool feel with the graffiti and worn in look real japan!!!! The Shibuya of Okinawa nicely put shinichi!!! Happy to hear your mums positivity!!!! And walking is so good for all of us!!!!👍🏻🏃🏼♂️
My grandmother is in her 70s and recently signed up for a senior citizens yoga (they do it seated in a chair) class and is looking at pilates too. She said it's done a world of wonder for muscles and joints.
I like exploring early. Not a lot of places are open but you can find your way around easier when it does become busy. A good idea for your Mom would be to join a senior exercise group at a local pool.
Yes! My 70something grandmother recently joined a yoga class for senior citizens. All the movement is done from a chair. She has said it has done a world of good for her joints and muscles.
It is a blessing to encourage the young and old to walk outdoors. Also your locations you have walked, public parks, plazas, and markets are safe for walks.
I was down there a few days ago and kept an eye out for you, just in case. Started following you before I moved to Okinawa and you continue to be a resource to help me explore the island. Thank you!
Hi Shinichi, great video. It’s important to make time for yourself and that little walk you’ve just taken us on will have done you the world of good. It’s wonderful that your mum wants to make another visit to Japan in the future and her desire to keep active is a positive part of that. Wishing you the best of luck and best wishes to your mum, Satoshi and you 😊
Thanks! You are a very good and loving son. Have Niki look into possibly taking your mom to a Hongwanji where they have senior day care. They have various activities that keep people active throughout the day. My mom used to go to the Pearl City location twice a week and enjoyed her time there. After a while she only went once a week. Or, consider a companion that comes to the house that will walk around the neighborhood with mom. It's been a long while since my mom went to the Honwanji and I'm not sure if they even provide senior activities these days but it might be worth looking into. Or, city senior centers are another option. They have them all over.
I know where I live there are walking/hiking groups for the elderly community. It is through my HOA organization but perhaps check with the local library or the local community center. There are many events during the summer and fall here where they go walking and hiking through the foothills. My local community center also holds workout classes for elderly people such as swimming and aerobics too.
Shinichi, it's really so important for senior's to keep exercising and keeping active everyday. I'm now in my 60's and keep active everyday. I'm actually thinking of getting an exercise machine for my house.
Good to hear that your mum has such a great attitude and still plans for the future! 🙏❤️ My grandmother gave up on going outside in the last few years of her life and it had a really bad effect on her mood and mental health. It was partly due to mobility issues but in greater part in her head. Instead of the treadmill I would suggest your mum to walk in place and to practice sitting down in and getting up from a chair for reps. Some joint mobility exercises could also help, doing circles with the ankles and knees, extending and retracting the legs. These can be done in a sitting position. I wish her the best of health! She is blessed to have you and her whole family. 😊🙏 Best wishes, Shinichi!
I miss okinawa so much, I lived there from 1970 to 1974. I was a kid, my dad was in the airforce. We lived in Naha then kadeena. It was so beautiful there, it stayed in my thoughts all my life. When we left, they were just building the EXPO at the ocean...
When my daughter and I went to Japan in February our average steps per day was anywhere from 17,000 to 25,000. We were very glad that we had been going to the gym! This is where I watch most of your walking videos Shinichi, at the gym! It is and was great motivation for me to continue to go to the gym in hopes of being able to walk and see all the sites of Japan. I can see how hard it must be for your mother, I mean it was hard for us too and my daughter is only 20! Investing in a watch or step counter might be good for your mom to motivate her, maybe start low and have her goal be to walk 500-1,000 steps a day and increase as she gets stronger? I know she likes to garden so that’s a lot of moving around too.
OMG😍😍 Your video made me miss home soooo much! A lot has changed since I left 8 years ago. I need to go back and visit my family and favorite beaches!! Thank you for sharing your video, it made me feel home a little❤
When I lived in Okinawa, I used to go regularly to the downstairs coffee shop (Inshallah) next to the Owan Clothiers. The Dutch Mocha Coffee was my favorite drink. Thanks for the memories.
Atho, i'm a bit younger (82) I can relate to your mother's feelings about walking. Viewing this clip.. I couldn't do this very l-o-n-g walk. We'll be visiting Okinawa in October.
Hey Shinichi! Love the Okinawa videos as Okinawa is one of my favorite destinations! It's so similar to my home in Hawaii! Just a little note of caution if you have your mom use the treadmill. You mention it was purchased a while ago and has not been used for a while. When a treadmill is not regularly used, there is a speed regulator that often freezes, so when you start using it after a while, it does not do it's job properly. This is dangerous because it can speed up or slow down unexpectedly even if you set a speed. Best thing is for her to walk outdoors (with Nikki), even if just up the street or around the block, preferably on a flat sidewalk. You get the Hawaiian sunshine and fresh air. And no shame using a cane if needed.
Omg i miss Okinawa so much😭. Five years in paradise. Watching this I can almost smell that wonderful air. Blue Seal ice cream is the best! I've walked those very same street countless times.
Hi Shinichi - So glad your mom is well. You might try a recumbent elliptical. It's really safe since you are in a seated position. I got my mother one for recovery after a heart attack. It was Dr. recommended for her rehab. The are a little bit pricey, but was the only thing she could use safely.
Shinichi, thank you for the early morning tour. I'm glad you had a few moments solo. It's hard trying to accommodate an aging parent while traveling. I wish I had another opportunity to do so with my mom...
I think a lot of older people take well with swimming or Chi gong or tai chi because it’s gentle on the body and the joints yet they’re getting a good exercise
I loved watching this, however you have to let her live the rest of her life… which is the best part of her life! Let her walk… with assistance she’ll be fine. She’s very blessed to be as active as she is. You worry about her, but she’s always going to be worried about you! You’re her child, not to mistaken to be the other way around👀 As long as she’s healthy, you should be happy… Keep doing what you do, and know that’s she’s always going to love you💜
You’re such a good son! I wish I could’ve taken my mom to Okinawa but she hated to fly! She hadn’t been back since she left for 30 years when her dad died. The war had left tremendous scars on her. I traveled there about 8 years ago and wish I got to spend more time there. One day I’ll go back to take a leisurely vacation (cousins had us on a tight schedule- LOL!) TFS!
My mom is 78 with health health issues and I know what you mean about frustration. I’m Always positive with her, telling her hey mom you’re still here. You’re too needed 😅 because it’s true. On her bad days when she’s frustrated and yelling and my positivity makes it worse, I take a couple of days and process it by doing things for me. I’m sure you doing you tube videos and travelling helps ❤
I enjoyed walking with you in this video. Also yeah im 33 and i ate it hard on a tredmill and flew off on the floor alone in the apartment gym. They can be dangerous.
The older you get your legs get weaker maybe she can join some exercise classes for seniors aloha Shinichi that's so awesome of you to take care of your mom my kids they have they're kids and they're life and work so we try to spend time when we can I live by myself so I like to workout to keep me healthy and busy so hopefully you're fine something for her much love and aloha ❤️
The gentlest , non-jarring way to build muscle is to *swim, and one can do that as mildly or intensely as needed. Their must be monitored classes/ coaching for the frail - at some facility back there .Encourage her to get into a pool when she gets back to Hawaii.
Loved the video. One option for your mom would be to move to Japan where you could watch her and help her build up her strength. Such a decision would have pluses and minuses, but it's something for you to think about carefully. When my mom was alive, I always thought about getting a place with an inlaw apartment where she could live close by, but still have her privacy. Unfortunately, she died before I could afford to do that, so I never will know how that might've worked out.
Yes I agree. Your mom has many good trait. I admire her very much. I have no doubt that she will strengthen herself. Please tell your, sister that I miss her but I know she is working and very busy
It's nice that your mom is still healthy enough to travel with you but you should still always remember that she is old and that her time is limited. Just make sure that she has fun no matter how much time she still has and try not to fight if something doesn't work well.
I love Okinawa! I just left there a month ago. You are on Kokusai and Okinawa is very big! I wish you could go to Uruma Hospital to visit my husband Yoshikazu Shimabukuro. Maybe you can visit him because I am his spouse and not on the list. Very sad!
Is there anyone who works at Uruma Hospital in Okinawa could tell my husband Yoshikazu Shimabukuro who is now 78. His birthday is June 5. That “I love him”. His daughter Megumi Izimakawa and his sister Nakamura did not list me on the visitation list although I am married to my husband 20 years. I always thought wives were always listed as family. I am black and they said I am not family. How is that? I have always gone to Okinawa until the Pandemic to visit and my husband and I travel to and from USA and Okinawa. I could not visit because the borders were closed for visitation between the USA and Japan. I tried calling and sending money and boxes and going in person visit and they now say that you are not family. I am still married to Yoshikazu even though they will not let me call him or visit him. How can you do that? We were married in the USA and at the Plaza mall in Okinawa. They put my husband in the Uruma hospital in Okinawa during the Pandemic saying he had Covid-19. Now Covid is over and they will not let him leave and will not let me see him. Very sad!
Hi Shinichi, Do you think she would like Kawagoe or Shibamata? Seems like an older Japan. I think she is just happy to be spending time with you and Satoshi. Ask her what kinds of places she wants to go to and what does want to do. Her answer may surprise you. Anyway, my mom had bicycle peddles that kept under her chair. She would pull it out every day and peddled while she was watching tv or paying her bills.
Walking is great exercise but walking in water is much easier on the joints while the resistance of the water does provide exercise. For how much to film, just ask. "Is this enough?" I suspect that your Mom wants videos of her doing well and does not want any showing she is tired.
Sin....I AM GOING TO QUIT WATCHING YOU. I CANNOT TAKE ANYMORE THE VIDEO RECORDING WITHOUT IMAGE STABILIZATION ON WHILE YOU ARE WALKING. Please, Please GET A GOOD SONY CAMERA. Sorry about all caps. Just needed to get your attention. We avidly watch you, and it is starting to not be enjoyable. Great content. Poor camera. Thank you.
Swimming would be a good way for your mother to get some low-impact workouts. Also, may be set her up with her own Instagram account so she feels more like she's a participant?
Where is your Mom from? Ah you said Hawaii. I love all your videos 😃 All the good shopping seems “back alley” fun! You’re a good son taking such good care of her.
When I heard your wish for your mom I thought of this www.cubii.com/ This way she can work her legs but remain sitting for safety (also one with arm exercise) Your mom is sooooo adorable and I hope she is having a good time. I am new to the channel but was glad that your mom started to want things for the future. Hope the recommendation helps. Appreciate all your videos, helps us get ready for our visit to Japan

Hi Shinichi, Enjoyed the walk around Naha and listening to your stories, nice and relaxing to watch. Arigato. Have a great day 😊👍
Thank you for sharing Kokusai street!
Baga seems so quiet in the morning! Great to hear your mom is one of your great supporters! 😍
Another lovely video, Shinichi-san, thank you. Enjoy being with your mum!

I'm older with a broken femur and it's a difficult time. So, I understand.
Hang in there Shinichi. It's so so important to keep your Mom active. Have you thought of stretching, Tai Chi, yoga for seniors?

Are you going to be on later for dinner..I love Okinawa soba and gyoza
HELLO BEAUTIFUL AREA VERY ARTSY AREA THANK U 4 TAKING US ALONG ❤
It's nice that your mom is still healthy enough to travel with you but you should still always remember that she is old and that her time is limited.
Just make sure that she has fun no matter how much time she still has and try not to fight if something doesn't work well.
Thank you 🙏
more protein will help with building back some strength! especially important for seniors, our body doesnt build muscle as easily as we age.
Aloha brother, so happy you are helping your Mom increase her stamina. Perhaps something like a Cubii for her to use at home?
When do the shops open? Sorry if I missed that
The shops in this area opens up around 11-12 noon time
I’m fine watching footage of your mom :) it’s all part of your life right now! Even if it’s slowed down for her
Water aerobics is good for seniors.

@Shinichi's World I remember you said that she liked Tora-san.
Aloha 🌺 🥰
As an older person I found that vitamin D has a major impact over time.
Interesting video. First time I see a video from Okinawa. I think it looks a bit different from the rest of Japan. I don't know if you agree?
nice walk, that thing you do is the best and she wanting to go back is a good news. Ido understan you, Ido the some thing thing. good lick
❤
Maybe consider elastic band workouts for your mom?
