    Eight years later and this video is still getting new views. Shows how reliable the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vans really are.

      Well I had to sell mine, because I had to fix it almost every weekend to go to work. Not to mention I was in a Car Pool and I had to have AC. Then again it had over 200K on the ticker. Glad the video helped. Ironically I still have videos I never completed and posted. Maybe I should do some of them and post them. Best Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Your video is absolutely the best help video on youtube!!! Everyone that works on a Caravan or T&C needs to know this. I have been turning wrenches for years and I was never aware that this wiper assembly could be so easily removed to access the back of the engine. You, sir, are a genius. This will make tune-ups a breeze as well as PS pump replacements.

      I've been turning wrenched professionally for 37 years. I have never removed the cowl nor dropped the engine cradle nor removed the motor mount and pulled the engine toward the radiator like so many folks speak about. I have used a 6 inch extension, a swivel (with a bit of electrical tape to stiffen it up a bit and the spark plug socket.

    I'm very grateful to you for making this video. You went about the removal and installation in great details. I had previously changed the spark plugs on my Grand Caravan the hard way. Again thank you!

    I have done over 500 of these vehicles. If you use a swivel and the correct spark plug socket you DO NOT need to move the engine forward, drop the engine 6 inches nor remove the cowl. You reach around the engine from the ignition coil block. Basic 3/8 metric socket set that comes with a swivel is all you need to remove the plugs. If you're going to install the plugs correctly you use a torque wrench and tighten plugs to the proper specification.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  3 роки тому

      Yep you sure can. The video is more for the beginner mechanic or someone who hasn't done it before, and you're correct You DO NOT have to remove the cowl to change the spark plugs. I know I've done it both ways too, It's just a lot easier to do it that way if you haven't done several of these.
      ** I don't know what you mean by and I quote; "need to move the engine forward, drop the engine 6 inches". I don't remember saying that in the video, if I did I apologize please send the time stamp so I can tell people to ignore that portion of the video. I did say; "You have to take this off, or you're in for a real real hard job back there", don't forget the "OR" portion of my sentence please.
      - Removing the Cowl will make the job way easier, unless you've got experience doing it with it on, most people don't.
      - Removing the Cowl also offers a great opportunity to inspect the back of the engine for possible future problems, like Valve Cover leaks or changing the O2 Sensor etc.
      - One thing I've learned doing mechanic work for over 35 plus years is no two mechanics do the job the same way. So I say; as long as the job is correct in the end and it meets specs and the repair is reliable, do the job the way that suits your style of mechanic work. Thanks for watching Micheal and the the nice comment. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    I am glad you posted this. If you need to replace the vacuum booster, wiper assembly is one step you need to do.
    There is no video of how to replace a bosster on 2001 and up. But once the battery & tray is out you will need to also
    loosen the bolts that hold the abs module to push it down just enough to pull the booster out. On thing about vacuum
    boosters, the diaphram can get a hole in it which will cause a vacuum leak and stumbling of the engine. besides not stopping your ride. There is a guy on UA-cam that completely explains booster replacement, it's operation and adjusting if needed.
    Look for the Australian New Zealand guy on youtube He is spot on.

    Thank you for the good tips on changing out the rear plugs on the Chrysler T and C. One thing I always see when do it yourselfers perform engine work on their own vehicles and then put the system back together they never ever power wash the cowlings or parts that could be cleaned right back to factory fresh. I always use a cleaning solution, power wash, lubricate any nuts and bolts before re-assembly. Professional grages don't do this either. Also add some rust preventative coatings as well. Care for your vehicle and it will care for you.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  6 років тому +1

      A very good point John. I used to do that but it took up so much time in the videos that I decided to let folks do that themselves if they wanted. Those upper screws I had actually taken them to the grinder, buffed them with a wire wheel and painted them semi-flat black. I don't remember if it they were done before this video or another one. This van no matter how well I treated it, it managed to break itself constantly. After putting a transmission in it I sold it for the price of the transmission to a friend. I had a nickname for this van. I called it the Fix it again Caravan. I paid $2,500.00 for it and spent over $3,000.00 in repairs over the next three years. I've had four Chrysler products over the last 20 years and all of them once they got over 100,000 miles became money pits. However my 95 Nissan Pathfinder with almost 300,000 has been almost serious maintenance free. My 2001 F350 7.3L 4x4 with over 200,000 miles on it is the same as the Nissan, they have been pretty reliable for the miles they've had on them. My Pastor has had 4 dodge vehicles in the last 10 years, all died except for the new Dodge truck he just bought. I do love the ride of the Caravans and Town & Countries and the seats are so comfortable. Glad the video helped. Thanks again for the good comment. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

    I really like watching you work Keith. Easy to follow instructions, great lighting. I'm going to recommend a small gorilla tripod. Great investment when it comes to shooting video in those not so easy to put a tripod spot. I've got social parasites where I live also. If it's not chained down to a 500 lb concrete barricade, they'll steal it. If they can see it, it's as good as gone.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  7 років тому

      Thanks Gerry. I purchased a tripod that wraps around things but I'm not used to using it yet. As far as thieves I'm pretty safe here so far, but I did have someone come in my garage and take my Craftsman Metric wrench set. I was pretty pissed about that. Funny they left the SAE hanging right next to it and more expensive items around it alone. I guess they heard me coming back out and left before I could catch them. That's the only problem I've had. Most of the time I keep my tools out of sight when I'm not outside with them and sometimes I tie my dog up within reach of my tools. More than a few people have come up into the yard for some unknown reason and changed their mind when my dog showed them his teeth. I used to have a friend that when he wanted something heavy hauled off that was broken, like a broken dryer or refrigerator, he would put a sign on it "Works $50.00 bucks" and put it by the road in front of his house. Usually is was gone that night, he was a pretty smart guy, and knew his neighborhood pretty good, he lived in Algiers Louisiana. Well gotta go. Should be putting up some more Caravan Videos this week or next. Did one on the Blend door Actuator for the dual climate control. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith

      @keithnoneya  6 років тому

      Hey Gerry I was re reading some of the old posts to see if I missed anyone. I loved the comment on the social parasites because of a story my friend Scotty told me. Scotty would put his old broken down appliances on the curb and put; "Works $50.00" on it, by morning it was gone. No need to call the dump and pay them to haul it off, let the social parasites do the job for you. LOL

      Thanks VCY, I love those, they have style and class and I love the way they ride, very comfortable. I've owned several Dodges or Chrysler products over the years. They all have been pretty good up until about 125,000 miles on the odometer, after that they kind of turn into money pits. I finally sold the 2002 Caravan after I kept replacing part after part and I car pool, so I needed a reliable ride. I know the Caravan pretty well so if you have any questions let me know. But I think now he just got bored with it because he bought a new car. This will be my first minivan, but I have wanted one for so long. Well, I hate to say it, but I have learned to do a rear plug change by removing the inlet air tube and with both arms around the engine like a bear hug removed plug wires and plugs relatively easy. There is even room for a short air gun for blowing the dirt out from around the plugs. Your method would be great for doing head gaskets or intake gaskets.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  3 роки тому

      I've done it both ways and they both work. I found the problem with doing it by leaving the Wiper Assembly on is that you can't see back there to do anything or do an inspection while you're there. So essentially you can get the job done blind folded, but you will never see anything else that could be a potential problem in the future, like a cracking hose, intake or you name it. By taking that extra 10-15 minutes you can do that inspection and see exactly what's going on and what you're doing back there as well. If you're in a hurry and just don't want to take the extra time to do the inspection, and you're ok with doing the job by feel, the old way is a little quicker for sure. I prefer to take the extra 10-15 minutes and make sure all is well back there to keep my van reliable. Thanks for watching, hope you found the video useful for your future projects. It's just a matter of preference. At least you know another way to do it now if you need to get back there. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Once you get the wipers and exterior part, do you really need to remove all the support structure? From here it looks like one could just snake their arm through. Thoughts?

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  3 роки тому

      You snake your arm through there for sure but that kinda defeats the purpose of even starting the process and you may only gain an inch and since the hard part is already done, it makes more sense to get all the room you can. In addition the bottom of the support structure has fiberglass insulation on it and with the age of it expect it to get all up in your arms, even if you're wearing a shirt. These vans are getting any younger so it's a good idea to do a good inspection back there on everything. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    I've seen videos on here where some people try to work behind there without taking the cowl off. Some will actually pull the whole intake system off of the engine instead of removing the cowl. But why? It's so easy to take the cowl off so why risk disturbing the induction system? You could end up with a vacuum leak and a check engine light.

Taking the 10-15 minutes to take it off just makes it easier to ensure after you pull the plugs or valve cover gasket that nothing will fall into the engine and it's easier to reinstall them. Not sure what bolts you're talking about, but no you don't have to take the CPS off when you remove the wiper assembly. The CPS is on the passenger side of the engine under the belt, and there are two speed sensors on the drivers side on the front of the transmission: an engine transmission input speed sensor and a transmission output speed sensor. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if you need anything else. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

      Many people are able to do it by feel and it's easier for some folks not to have the extra step. There are also those who are not mechanically inclined and don't feel comfortable removing it.
      There is a benefit from removing it, you can do a quick inspection of the area behind the motor. 10-01-22 Took advice from a comment on one of these youtubes - used wheel ramps, crawled underneath and accessed rear plugs from there (99 voyager 3.3). Need long arms (i'm 6-3) and still had to remove alt bracket/belt tension to finaggle #1. O2 sensor easy to access this way as well. I recommend ramps. Time saved disassembling & reassembling wiper assembly went straight into actual job.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  2 роки тому

      A little confused, you got the ramps, put the van on ramps, removed the Alt Bracket, Best Tensioner, Serpentine Belt and then reversed that process and that used less time than disassembling and reassembling the wiper assembly, that's pretty fast, I'm impressed for sure. It takes me about 10 minutes or less to pull the wiper assembly when I'm taking my time, and I don't have to touch a belt or ramps or lie on my back on a hot or dirty driveway. Interesting idea coming from the bottom though, I don't think I would have thought of that or been able to do that. I've never even heard of anyone doing it that way. One thing I've learned in working on vehicles is no two mechanics do the job the same way. The best way is the way that works best for you and gets the job done reliably. Best Wishes & Blessings. This is the Best way to deal with jobs that are to the rear of engine. I've done this even on my 99 Voyager, every tuneup. I am actually going to see if I can get to the bolts of that pesky tranny mount down back there.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  4 роки тому

      Yep! If you're going to try and do the rear transmission mount you have to remove the wiper assembly to get to the three top bolts on the cage or part that mounts on the transmission. Two are in the cage and one is on the drivers side of the cage. Then you'll have the actual transmission mount with the top shield bolt and three mounting bolts and and the cross bolt that ties the cage and the mount all together. Have fun, been there done that, never again. I'll pay someone for that one next time! LOL Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

      @@keithnoneya So let me ask you, will I be Able to access the 3 hold down bolts from the top, easier than thru the bottom? Also, you mention a "Cage", what is that? Might you be referring to the mount bracket? I take it that bracket doesn't need removal, correct?

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  4 роки тому +1

      Yep the cage is the bracket on the transmission. I just remembered the reason I took mine out was because I was changing the transmission, so you may be able to do it without taking it out, sorry about any confusion. About the three bolts on the actual transmission mount on the frame, that has the heat shield. I don't remember if I did the two front bolts from the top or not, I do remember doing the back one and the shield from under the car. Let me know how it goes if you do it. There is a video on line, it's old shaky and grainy, but there's enough information on it to do it, Here: ua-cam.com/video/S8d2FvFQCf0/v-deo.html Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

      @@keithnoneya This was pretty good too Steve. It at least shows an approach from the top, which is very helpful. I just came up, where I drove her on ramps and checked both angles. I looked very doable, I thought it was going to be like, "impossibly doable, leave it to a shop"..lol. but I didn't notice damage to the rubber, as is with the front one. I will replace that front for sure, however, I plan to leave that rear one alone or Call you to do it for me..hahahaha.. kidding. Thanks again, Be blessed and encouraged Keith, we'll be in touch.

    my wiper arms won't come off. even with liquid wrench and tapping bolt a hammer while pulling on arm, there's some sort of washer that seems fused to the bolt, won't budge. i ended up doing it by feel, wasn't too bad. any suggestions for how to unseize wiper arm?

      Wow. Try a Tie Rod End Puller. You could also try putting that liquid wrench on there and letting it sit overnight, then try it. The only other thing I could think of would be to gently heat it up with a butane torch to see if it will expand enough for it to come off. It may be a little risky with the windshield and plastic shroud there but you may be able to do it. Once off put some anti-seize compound or some axle grease on it before you put them back on so you don't have that problem next time. I wish I had some better suggestions for you. Let me know how it works out. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Would this method work for a 2000 chevy venture to get the back 3 spark plugs?

      Hi Mathew, most vehicles that have this type wiper assembly will be similar to this Dodge. I would look up how to change the spark plugs on a 2000 Chevrolet Venture to be sure.

    I need replacement screws for the wiper guard. Any idea where to get some.

    • @keithnoneya
      @keithnoneya  6 років тому

      If you mean the black plastic cover, I would just get some stainless wood screws at Ace or Lowes. Take one with you for an example, then paint them semi flat black with some Testors model paint to keep the paint cost down. You can get them at the dealer but the cost would probably be high. Hope that helps you. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith Noneya

      Hi Jones, a few dumb questions.
      1. Is the plastic cap off, gotta ask?
      2. Did you get the nut off?
      3. If you grabbed it and wiggled it up and down and didn't come off, spray so wd-40 or PB-Blaster on it, let it sit for a 10 minutes then try to grab it with your hand and wiggle it up and down again.
      If it doesn't come off then use a cheap puller. Let us know how it worked out for you. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith
