It’s call expanded metal sheet.
Tip: you can weld half of a large washer where the expanded metal is trimmed to fit the pipe.
I don't have a side by side and probably never will but that won't stop me from watching Tony work his magic on his.
Yeah it's pretty unreal what the prices of things have become over the years, I could have built a small house for what my brother spent on his set up. lol
Great idea and excellent workmanship.I love your honesty.I have learned a lot from your videos.Keep up the good work.Blessings.
Very nice machine. Hard to believe it was a year past that you made the camping trip. Time flies. Thanks Tony for showing how much mods that has been do to the machine. Looks factory. In a way it was. From your factory Fitzees Fab Great Video
That is a wonderful rack that is very versatile. It looks like it came from the factory.
Hello Fitzee. Another example of your fabulous craftsmanship. The box needs your logo on it.
George B. in Michigan
Here in Texas we call it expanded metal.. really nice project.
Here In Texas We're Sweating Our Ass Off!!!
Keep Rocking It Texas Style!!!
Tony,
You never cease to amaze me with your common sense approach to everything!
Always look forward to your videos.
Well Tony, I would never have made a measurement mistake…, hahaha.., a least no more than a “dozen” on a project like this.., hahaha…! Those “fishmouth” notching points were things of beauty. I realize there are pieces of equipment to do those with, but your talents are amazing.
Great video,
Thank you sir.
I'm trying to overcome my "horder" tendencies, Fitzee, but you encourage me to keep it ALL when you hold onto bits and pieces for future use! 😂😂
Another informative and entertaining video...Thanks.
In the Army we used to call that stuff XPM - Expanded Perforated Metal sheet - Also known as Maggie Thatcher as she became an ex PM.
Learning everytime. Thanks for the tutorials.Have a nice trip. Enjoy. GBY!
You got one heck of a toy now tony I like it great job us over here in the us down south we call it expanded metal 👍
Very interesting mod and build…learned a lot from the detail you provided.
Looks great Tony. Have a good trip.
Perfect simply perfect and as always. The tips were good.
The metal is called expanded metal. I think you made this project look easy for everyone who would do this kind of work. My parents came form Newfoundland and I started my apprenticed in Saint John's. Cheers
Project came out great.
Two types, expanded metal or flattened expanded metal.
Whenever I watch someone else on UA-cam, I ALWAYS WONDER...
WHAT WOULD FITZEE DO? It's Always Great!
As always another awesome video Tony! I always enjoy watching your videos! One of my favorite UA-cam channels! Keep up the great content! Keep on keeping on brother!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I can hear the comments now, “Hey Tony where did you get that rack”? Great job. Enjoy your trip.
Great job Tony that’s expanded metal mesh can’t beat the price for all that stuff to smart thinking enjoy your trip
Excellent job, all the best to you and your loved ones
Great build Tony, cheers, Doug
Nice job. The difference between experts and amateurs is that the expert expects to make mistakes and knows how to recover from them.
It might be prudent to test the handling of the machine with a service load on the rack; the Centre of Gravity will be quite a bit higher than normal, which will affect roll stability.
Going at that the weekend. She getting a trail test. Might over weight it just to see how it handles
Fitzee, I see someone has already told you the name of the metal so all I can say is this type of video calms me down. In other words, I find this type of thing relaxing. I recently finished a project ( Box Grader) made from scrap metal plating that I got locally from a machine shop. It was left over from a project they had, and they always let me browse their scrap yard whenever I need something. Much cheaper than buying finished products sold retail especially with the state of our governing idiots in the U.S.A. right now causing all prices to accelerate. Keep up the videos, I have learned a lot of Tips and Tricks since I started watching your channel a few years back.
Well, you cut up a perfectly good roof rack, then reassembled it to your own specifications and now it looks like OEM equipment on your RZR. Just as well that you stuffed up the length of that expanded metal, because it turned out to be an advantage in that as you said, you can carry tall stuff in that section when the toolbox isn't fitted. That was also a good idea the way you bolted the toolbox on with those reinforcing strips inside. It will be a lot stronger then just using bolts. The modifications and additions to the RZR have really worked out well, looking like OEM.
Saved yourself some prepping and painting with that expanded metal.
Nice rack.
Simply awesome. Excellent example of making something to fit your needs with a little planning and effort. Great video. As always looking forward to the next one.
Everything you've made looks like it was factory made to fit. Fabulous job. Love watching your mad mind come up with stuff.
Adds alot of functionality to the machine. Nice work!!
What a awesome little addition to your side by side. I like how you repurpose material to makje your imagination come to life. Always a pleasure watching your channel
The sanding part, done just as I usually do, and I always feel a little bit bad for not doing a nicer job. But in the end no one can tell. Nice project
That's called Exspanded metal here in the USA. And that was the same spray gun /paint gun I started painting with over 30 years ago and sweet job .thanks for the video fitzee
Good plan! Watch your CG (center of gravity) when you start loading that top box!
Yes thinking about that. It's mostly for cloths and sleeping gear. Not alot of weight. The heavy stuff will be mounting under the rack. Gas, tools.
Great rig Fitzee.
Set like jelly - now just got to get out there and enjoy.
That is going to very useful for your trips, better than factory. Good job as always.
Another great educational video, thanks for sharing.
That turned out great Fitzee!👍
Your Amazing Tony!!! Awesome job!
I love your chanel, always a lot to learn. My philosophy exactly, use what you got lying around.
Most impressed, gretings from 🇳🇴
You better patent that set up. Awesome design.
Really good working. Interesting to follow!
The rack looks better than factory. I have always wanted to do that trip please give us an update on how it went. Have a safe one.
Fritzee, looks like this year you will have more fun with the added amenities to the RZR. May your vacation be problem free, just fun and relaxation.
Hi Fitzee, I have been inspired to give some repairs a go on my truck/ute after watching your videos, this there a way to share some photos with you to get your opinion on a bottom A pillar repair, love your videos with just the basics. Cheers
You must have been lost on this project at first with no rust to deal with LOL! Nice job!
nice job Fitz looks good. cheers have a good one bye..
I'm glad I stuck around,
Great video.
Lots of clever fab tips 👍😎👍
Very cool Tony, that rack looks factory. That should be an amazing trip can’t wait to see the video on that 👍
Nice build, Tony. The rack and the box fit the machine perfect!
The steel sheet is called Expanded Steel Sheet down here in PA.
There's Steel,Aluminum,and many other materials.
Didn't notice your roof and windshield was from a car.....got a few ideas within a couple seconds for a buddies new to him SXS to keep his costs low.Thought of maybe adding a rack for him but not real sure about the extra weight the rack would add. It'd make it top heavy and more rollover prone in a number of situations.
We’ve all done it Fitzee never mind bud we move along 🤣 one thing I do know that mesh is bloody sharp you gotta be careful or it’ll cut you to bits ! Nice job brother looks cool but more importantly does what you want it to do 👌👍
Awesome job Tony! I think I'd consider flipping that box onto it's side, so the lid faces the back. Then You can access the contents without climbing up a ladder to see inside the box. I love the rack you built!
Top won't open. It wider then roll cage.
@@fitzeesfabrications what was I thinking! You even said that in the start of your video, but I spaced that out when I was looking at the box sitting there. My screw-up. Not the first and I'm sure not my last crew-up!
Another fine job and video! Thanks buddy.
Fitzee that's a great looking rack expanded metal is what you were looking for you're fabricating is great 👍.
Great work done. I dud also made my own rack from a van rack.
Cheers Fitzee. 🍻
Looks great ! Nice and useful little project! I'm sure it will make your next trip alot better.
The handles on that box will bang, bang, bang and drive you crazy
Ot with a bungy cord on them.
Well that worked out ideal, who would believe the box & rack be ideal pair match and width of rack ideal to the roll bar .
saved a lot of work and a fair chunk of change .
your pipe notch fish mouth tool was good way anyone could tackle this sort of pipe joining task, amazed got it fit that neat as when got that many pipes you generally get 1 or more that never the nicest fit when positioned true and square .
The diamond mesh sheet worked great and possibly looks better, more adaptable and weight saving over being full length :-) sometime luck on your side or is it just another skill you learn to tackle errors positively .
Good job, now get it on the trail and test it good and proper :-D
That came out really nice!
Gotta love Princess Auto!
Brilliant! As Always Fitzee
Good fix,on the mistake,with the expanded metal,better I think.Thanks for not editing it out.Have a good trip.
In the shipyard here in the U.S., we called that corrugated material Expanded Metal. That's what the material suppliers catalogues called it.
Good job on the retro-fit Tony, that rack will always come in handy, its sturdy enough to drag a marsh donkey home..
I was thinking if you mounted a 4 x 8 sheet of 5/8 plywood on top of that rack and the plywood was fitted in the middle with a piano hinge with two fold up legs, you now got the perfect platform to mount and anchor a two man tent up off the ground. With a foam mattress it would be like a 5 star hotel on wheels, a room with the view. How cool is that?
Good job.Thanks Fitzee.
Incredible work keep the videos coming my friend
One annoying thing you will probably find is the side handles of the mounted box will be rattling when you go down the road so I would split some rubber tubing to wrap around them. Or you could just remove them altogether. Happy trails to you and yours.
Already thinking about that. Lol
Easy Peasey for Fitzee really looks great Fitzee
The only issue with expanded metal is the exposed edges tends to catch clothing if it isn't ground completely smooth. You can make a hammer form to bend the edges down so that the edges that are exposed fit down next to the piping instead of on top of it. Making a quick hammer form to make the rounded edges on the back corners out of plywood is pretty easy. It makes the overall look more finished fitting down inside the piping, plus it is easy to connect the expanded metal to the piping using washers and a few screws. You might want to use some rubber (or cork like they used to use on old gas tank straps) to keep the expanded metal from rattling against the pipes. If you don't have a cooler on back to hold it down it will drive you crazy pretty quickly. It will also keep the expanded metal from wearing into the pipes.
Well done .i like the mashine and hope to see some footage from using it.
Take care yours Frank Galetzka
Excellent work
Every time I've done the inch short trick is when I am reading the tape upside down. As a fellow left hander no need to ask why you would be reading the tape upside down lol!
Well thought out. Great job. Let us know how it worked for you.
Hope you take us along. Wondering about the rear springs handling the additional weight with gear though. Time will tell
Add a little hardener to the tremclad. It will be bullet proof..... Lots of videos on youtube showing this.. also helps retain the gloss..
Don't want a gloss with satin . Adding harder makes it shiny. I add harder when using shiny trimclad colors
@@fitzeesfabrications you must be adding way to much hardener. It was just a suggestion.
The fabrication work and explanation of processes is excellent as always. But I think a small lightweight trailer would be preferable to a solution that places the load up high where it raises the centre of gravity and makes the gear comparatively difficult to access. I bet you could have found an old 6 x 4 trailer for $50 and cut it down to just take the box and a couple of jerry cans.
I have plans for trailer but problem is some of the trails we take a trailer will slow you down. Alot of tight turns. This way I feel it will cut threw the trails better
Looks great 👍
Great one again 😁
1" mistake saved you some expanded sheet metal material for next project. A fire pit grill for your trips? 👍
Already have plans for just that!
You got any bears up there in Newfoundland when you go camping out?🇦🇺 It's all new to me.
Yes but for most part they stay clear of humans. Our moose is what we have to watch out for. Have one of them walk out in front of you on a trail is not a good thing.
just imagine what you can drag home with that now...have fun on your trip.
Those chinese are going to see what you did Fitz and in a couple of months they will be selling those razor racks at Princess Auto !!!!
Hope you have fun on your trip. 👍
wicked man i am in the making of a little back rack / holder for my jerry can for the bike on big runs because i cant get far at all with my small tank
Greetings Fitzee, that dreaded 1 inch mistake, how many times have I done that. Lol, can't count that high. 🤣 The metal sheeting is called expanded sheet metal. 😉 Take care my friend 👍
Sticking around
We don’t make mistakes, we have happy accidents!
Security mesh…. It’s used in construction… Basically it goes between units in malls and such so you can’t kick through one wall to get next door…. Jewelry stores use it a lot
I like the idea good job 👍 ✌️😁
Also called diamond lath, for stucco underlayment.
The product I use for stucco is different . Hy-rib is of a thinner gauge, sharp as a razor and is slightly angled.
As Always, Great Info!
I have a RZR 570 and looking to make a windshield. What type of material did you use? Just discovered your channel a few nights ago; great to watch someone local. Great videos!!
wow awesome work!
that is awesome and a great idea
Turned out good. What mistake are you talking about I didn't see any?
In South Africa it is commonly known as diamond mesh.
Or braai mesh in Mzanzi😁😁😁
You guys are the diamond country indeed 👍
@@rjung_ch you should see us with gold 😁😁😁

home depot has an affordable etch primer by rustolium.
We call it expanded metal in Australia, not sure of other countries but the worst thing about it is painting it, i never seem to be able to cover it well enough
nice project! i do often the same , look at pre made things that i can use on a project, comes out so much cheaper, a fraction of to buying the material for it.
