Hey Guys! So to use the cruise control and speed limiter on the stalk (the previous style) here are the movements of the stalk below: Button on the end: No light = Cruise Control With light - Speed Limiter Up/Down: Sets it (as to what you’ve chosen above) Push Away: Cancels it Pull toward you: Resumes the previous set speed Hope that helps!
Nick, see you mentioned unless u have ‘drivers assist pack’ the cruise control will not brake therefore you still have to manually brake yourself However how does brake assist come into play ?? I thought that was standard on most models. Wouldn’t that be the same thing? Thanks
Hey Masato K, Brake Assist & Active Brake Assist are both Assistance systems standard on all modern Mercedes-Benz that can help prevent a crash. These two are the red warning triangle in the dashboard if you get too close to the car in front. If the car has Active Brake Assist then the car can initiate an emergency stop to help prevent a crash. Active Distance Assist Distronic is different though, part of the Driving Assistance Package, this can help maintain the same distance to the car in front. Perfect for motorways!
It will assist you in emergency braking but you’d of course have to go for the brake pedal in the first place. The word active means it’ll actively do something :)
Whenever I am lost with my new Benz, I always head to your channel. You ought to know you are super duper amazing and very helpful Nick. We can all see the hard effort you put in all your videos. We truly appreciate it. I am a fan, massive fan of yours from Australia 🇦🇺 Please take care~ ^^
Hi, you can watch my video! Here's a video of me unlocking speed limit changes on a 2020Benz with a Phoenix Elite: ua-cam.com/video/VUEBdsrz7J8/v-deo.html . There are many other videos on my homepage, you can check them out if you are interested. Of course, your follow is also welcome!
The speed limit was useful the other week when I had a puncture on the motorway. RAC were able to plug the puncture but advised on not driving more than 40mph.
Omg I realised my hand swiped on the button on the right sight of wheel mid steering. Randomly my car was set at 14 mph in a 30 zone 😂 I had no idea on how to set it back - holding up a massive queue of cars I panicked and just set my hazard light on and pulled over on a double yellow line😂. I reset the engine and luckily it turned back. Thanks to your vid all I wanted was the cancel button❤
Oh my! I was on the highway and apparently instead of indicating I set a limit and couldn’t accelerate. It was quite dangerous. What a shock! All I wanted was to stop and start over😭😭😭
Nick, Once again your timing is impeccable! I’ve been slowly going through my GLB operators manual and was going to start studying that this weekend. Looks like you did my homework for me again. :-) Thank you!

I never used cruise control, don't have it in any or the cars I owned but always wondered how the controls work. I'm glad I stumbled across this well made video!

Hi Nick thanks so much for your videos. We have just got an A Class a few days ago and neither of us know much about cars and I find the manual a bit of a challenge to get my head around! Your videos are helping us so much with getting to grips with the car! 🙏 ⭐️
Hi Nick, great videos and I’ve learnt lot over recent months. Just thought I’d mention a point you made at the end of your video about the Limiter which might be important if viewers misunderstood. When you flip the button upwards you rightly said the Limiter will adopt the speed limit the car has recognised from speed signs. However, I thinks it’s important to note that this needs to be done every time the speed limit changes, it does not happen automatically when the speed limit changes. If drivers thought it was automatic, they could wrongly assume the car would not exceed the speed limit via the limiter. Hope that makes sense.
Hi Geoff, yes you’re absolutely right it won’t adopt the limit for new speed signs, this will have to be done manually. The Driving Assistance Package offers this but only for Active Distance Assist Distronic (adaptive cruise control) not the limiter.
its mind blowing that even in a car like this, adaptive cruise control is an option.. many other brands do offer advanced driver assistance system in basic/entry level models..
Hey Rec, it’s all down to the individual manufacturer. Mercedes prioritise comfort & luxury over other things. In other manufacturers, adaptive cruise is kind of just a standalone option but with Mercedes it’s bundled together in a thing called Driving Assistance Package (just under £2k on average). Some models have it as standard, some maybe on the future, we’ll have to see what Mercedes does! 👍🏼
Spot on! I'd mistakenly thought Cruise Control on my 'new' 2021 GLB250 would be similar to my 2006 Lexus 250i - adaptive as standard - but it's not. Disappointed is an understatement.
Another great video - thanks! And as of 14 Jun 2021, just two days after the video was posted, it's had 9,625 views. Shows how highly regarded your videos are.
@@npoleary Coincidentally, I bought a new GLC AMG43 a few weeks back and had been struggling with the cruise control / limiter just two days ago - so this video was perfectly timed. Thanks again.
Hi Nikc, loving your videos. Having not driven a car in a few years I have notice that most new cars not longer have a handbreake. Can you possible do a video on how the breaking system works and when to use the emergency brake. Thanks
Hey Nick, here is a tip for you. Whilst driving and decide to use cruise control, it is a one button activation. That is, simply click the set + (middle button) once the desired speed is reached. No need to select cruise control by using the left button.
Hey John, I mentioned to use the first buttons first because if someone had used the limiter for example it would set that first. It remembers what you’ve last used 🤓
Cruise control adapting speed to traffic signs indications was something completely new to me, it's a most useful function in my opinion, once again thanks a lot Nick, you are great !
Thanks for all the hard work you put into these videos Nick! The other day I was trying to get the rear wiper to clean the back windscreen with a squirt of washer fluid on my GLB and could not get this to happen. All I managed to do was put the back wiper on intermittently and then was not able to turn it off. Could you do a video explaining the how to use the rear wiper, or point me to a video where you have already dealt with this query? Many thanks Fred
Thank you! 🙏 Ah that’s an easy one, just press the rear wiper button a little harder. It’s a two button switch just like the front wiper 🤓 The left side of the rear wiper button is for a wipe, press hard for a spray and the right hand side is for a timer.
@@npoleary Many thanks for the quick reply on that. will try that out - cheers.. I was out in the GLB recently and it said the 12v battery needed charging. I opened the bonnet it was clear to see the positive terminal accessible under the slider, it was so obvious how to get to the negative terminal. Any tips on that? Thanks in advance!
Hi Nick, suggest about getting in the car with a key fob that has gone flat and more on voice commands, our MBUX doesn't want to tune into radio 5 when we ask..... Others also have noticed it. Maybe one about changing the key fob to only open the drivers door on the first click.... Keep the videos coming mainly.... Enjoy
Nice job Nick. I managed to guess through all those buttons and I did find the traffic sign button embossed close to the resume button very clever. Good thing the sun is out now. So we would be seeing more drive around from you. Thanks again for your time
Nick, regarding suggestions, how about a video on how you hand over/ introduce a car to customer on collection day/ all the features you cover (I guess it depends on the car they’ve gone for)
Hey Masato, I have covered a basics handover video before but I’m looking to redo it this year but this time with a car with MBUX 🤓 ua-cam.com/video/20Jh6XfbGAU/v-deo.html
The first time I drove a car with cruise control was in Florida. It was a Dodge Ram and when I pressed 'resume' I assumed that the speed would ramp up to the previous set speed. It didn't. It floored it and scared the living cr*p out of me!
Nick, I was wondering if you could do a video on the Mercedes me store to buy extras for your car, that would be really helpful. Just bought a Mercedes A class and looking to buy some extras for it so the video would help. Keep up the good work! ✌️
Hey Daryn, Yes sort of, however for modern Mercedes car to automatically adopt a speed limit on the road automatically, you have to opt for the Driving Assistance Package which can only be specified at factory. It's a rare one in the UK!
A little correction on the speed limit sign setting mode. You only need to press the button (up) twice if the limiter is off, because the first press will 'resume', and then the second sets it to the speed limit that the car has identified. After that, assuming you've still got the limiter on, and you want to change to a new limit that you've just driven through, you only have to press the button once. The wife and I use it all the time, really helps you to keep your focus on the road, don't need to keep checking your speed and worrying about cameras. It does have a little difficulty understanding our NSL signs, I notice. Maybe a localisation issue translating the system over from Germany? It doesn't always know what speed they should correspond to. Thanks for the video!
Thanks IMelkor42, Glad you liked it! Yes technically you can but I chose to say it like this as a common thing that people can get stuck with is putting the limiter on and get it stuck on 20mph or something. One example, you could press resume but the previous speed may have been 20mph or 30mph and if you're doing 50mph or anything higher, the car would slow down so pressing resume twice will stop that from happening. Hope that helps!
Assuming you last used the limiter, on restarting the car, the first up of the Res(ume) button sets the speed limit to your current speed, and the second press of it sets the traffic sign recognised speed limit. So you don't have to touch the middle or left button at all.

Hi Nick, thank you for all the info you have provided. My friend n I have faced a problem recently on the voice input navigation, just wonder if you have presentation on this. Thanks a lot
HI. I really love your content. I am looking for a new Mercedes A-class. Since this will be my first Car, (in the UK) I am considering Second-hand cars. I am wondering what should I do when I get my car the first time? How can I reset all of those settings? Or should I reset them? What do you suggest to me? I will be appreciated it if you make a simple video about this topic! ( I prefer long videos btw) Great videos. Thank you And Cheers!
Ah awesome thanks Baran! Ah well you should check out one of my latest videos 👀 5 Things you MUST DO when buying a Mercedes! ua-cam.com/video/63OdElWzbOQ/v-deo.html Got you covered!
Yoda Nick, amazing, didn’t understand point of speed limiter and didn’t know it would change speed by clicking twice. I need to borrow you. Many thanks
Very helpful - couldn't work out what Limiter did from either driving the car or from the manual! But. "I wouldn't want to use ... Limiter going round a roundabout." Why not? Limiter protects you against drifting over the speed limit, it doesn't stop you slowing down when you take your foot of the accelerator. You would normally leave Limiter on through roundabouts, junctions, traffic etc., unlike Cruise Control. And not having Adaptive Cruise Control on cars of this quality is really naff.
Hi Nick, great video as usual. I was trying both a couple of hours ago and work fantastic! One question regarding speed limit. Does it has also a function to alert (sound) when you pass certain limit ? I uses to own a VW that allows me to select a quick alert 1 or 2 KM/h before the speed camera limit. It is a good feature as you don't have speed limit but at least an alert to stop acceleration. Thanks!!! Cheers from Argentina 🇦🇷
Nick thank you, I have learnt so much from you. One thing I would love to know is..... What is every setting or feature that can be included in a profile? Thanks Mark
Hey Mark, hard to offer a complete list as it varies from model to model and country to country. A few examples are Navigation Settings and Preferences Radio Presets (and I think the EQ settings too) Ambient Lighting Preferences Car Settings MBUX Screen layouts incl Themes Some also do seat settings too in conjunction with memory 🤓

Hey Nick, thanks for the informative video! Correct me if wrong, I noticed that the modern mercedes with the cruise control located on the steering wheel, increase and decrease speed by 5km/h and not 1km/h. Is that correct?
I would love to but unfortunately at the moment AMG’s are almost at the point of “made to order” so it’s tricky to get my hands on one. If I get the chance though of course! On my list of future videos already 🤓
Hi Nick, Great video as always, but can you get the cruse/ speed limiter symbol to go off the screen / HUD I’ve tried everything and it want disappear when the system is not being used? Many thanks
Hi Nick, great video. Just a quick question, I used the cruise control function on my Mercades a few weeks back, and clicked cancel when I was done, but for some reason even though it’s off the cruise control symbol still shows on the instrument cluster, my OCD is killing haha is there any way to remove it from the cluster once I’m done with it? Thanks in advance
Hey Arun, thank you! ah I know what you mean. Yes those grey icons will always stay there once used. Sadly no way to turn it off. They’ll stay there until you turn the car off and then back on.
Actually come to think of it, I think it’s when you first use it. Then it’ll stay there. It basically just lets you know what the set button will do when you toggle it
Hi Nick, great videos. Thank you for all the useful advice. Had my first Mercedes for a few months now. Will not be my last. Question, if I may. I have a C300de. If there anyway I can get the default mode from Hybrid to eSave? Cheers, Luke
Hey Luke, aha thank you! :) glad you like the videos! Unfortunately no, all cars have to start in their default mode but you can of course change this once you’re sat in and started.
Hello Nick, I love your clips. Took delivery of an EQA250. two weeks ago. I am in Australia. One problem I have encountered is that on a main road where limit is say 80 km. There may be a service (parallel) side road. The speed limit on that side road is usually 50 km. My car (sees) the 50 signs and pings me. It is annoying because I am on the middle 80 carriageway. I continue at 80 and it continues to ping me at above 50. Is there a way to overcome this ?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! Sadly no as the car is just programmed to recognise speed signs and show them on the instrument cluster. It might not know you’re going down that road. You can however adjust if it flashes / bings at you in Settings so if it is making a sound, you can toggle it off.
@@npoleary thanks for your reply Nick. Yes I will do that. Had hoped that there was a change of default somehow. Nevermind I can live with it. I loved our C 350e which was a glorious sedan. I don’t feel quite the same love for this, partly due to front wheel drive. However it also is a magnificent vehicle. Thank you for all your input over the years. It has helped me tremendously. I am 79 year old female, thus a bit slow to grasp when dealer explains. I reassure myself that I can “check with Nick”………Ha! Ha!
You may have done a video on this, I'm new to your channel so I don't know. Can you explain all the benefits of having the Mercedes road assist and all the extra things that come with purchasing the vehicle from a Mercedes dealership
Hey Kymberleigh 🤓 I haven’t made a video on it specifically but buying from a main dealership does give you a few extra perks. Things like an Approved Used Check (if you’re buying used) to even things like warranties for extra peace of mind. When it comes to roadside assistance I know what it is for the UK but elsewhere it may vary. In the UK as long as you have had main dealer servicing, you’ll get up to 30 years breakdown cover (roadside assistance) included for free. It basically auto renews itself each year. You can see full extensive list here of the checks that most Mercedes dealerships carry out: www.sandown-group.co.uk/approved-used-check-points/
Hi Nick great video as always. I have an issue I am finding really frustrating. Since using the cruise control for the first time the symbol on the instrument cluster always stays on even after turning the car off and on again, I have not found any answers or explanation for this and was hoping you'd be able to help.
Thank you! No sadly that’s just the way Mercedes instrument clusters are designed. Nothing will be on the screen when you start, but as soon as you select something it will stay greyed out to let you know what will happen if you press the set button. Green is on and active but grey is off but just showing you what is ready to resume in the background
Hi Nick , fantastic videos !!! And I learn a lot with all of them during my 13 months waiting for the delivery of my CLA 250e, with lots of extras like driving assist package . My only thing is normally I find very clever the adaptative cruise control and route based speed control , so every time I define a speed for the cruise control the system read the traffic signs and adapt the speed to cruise , but there are some cases, normally in freeways that I prefer to define a speed and that speed doesn’t change with a sign . There is any way to keep the speed and not change because of the readying of a sign ? Thanks in advance and keep the fantastic work
Thank you! Yes I can’t remember menu for menu where it exactly is but it’s called “Adopt Speed” on one the settings. There is also “Route-Based Speed Adaption” which on some cars takes into account turns etc on a slipways on motorways and roundabouts. Both on the centre screen HOME SETTINGS ASSISTANCE TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST ADOPT SPEED (somewhere in that area) For turns and roundabouts: HOME SETTINGS ASSISTANCE And it should be in there, just toggle “Route-based speed adaption” on/off.
Thanks for the useful tips. The buttons labels are different on the steering wheel of my GLE 350. I don’t have the (lim) label. I have theses labels: cruise on, cruise off, set +, set -, Res/i and CNCL. How do I set the speed limit in my car? If that can’t be done on my car, is there an option for me to be warned with a beep sound when I exceed the speed limit?
Hey Aqueel! No worries! Ah it can vary round the world from what I’ve heard in terms of specification etc. If you car has anything, I’ve seen stuff before in HOME SETTINGS ASSISTANCE SPEED LIMIT ASSIST or TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST Toggle one of those on and set alerts to “Audible” Hope that helps!
@Nick O'Leary Thanks for the response. I only have these options in the assistance tab: (Camera & Parking, Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist, Blind Spot Assist [Toggle] and Traffic Light Information [Toggle] ). Any other place to enable the warning when the speed limit is exceeded?
Ah specs go vary round the world, I’ve heard from comments on my channel that cars in other countries don’t have limiters and also don’t have speed limit assist etc
Hi Nick - suggestion: can you do a video on lane assist? Or how to switch it off permanently??? Really hate it being on each time I jump in my new GLE. I’ve tried linking it to favourites but it won’t allow that either - I’d it possible to switch off? Thanks
Hey Paul, I’ve covered it in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/aaFgs8oAONU/v-deo.html But no unfortunately you can’t turn it off permanently as it’s classed as a safety system. It’s completely inactive when your indicators are on but of course it will be scanning the road ahead when driving and detecting if the car goes over a lane marking. You can switch it off per driving session in the settings menu if you want to temporarily switch it off.
Hey Steve, Aha I’ve covered the Driving Assistance Package in another video already :) ua-cam.com/video/LEqM2FqUIa8/v-deo.html The list on that package is pretty cool but double check with your local Mercedes as the list of features varies from model to model Hope that helps!
Hej Nick - Thanks for all your fine and informing videos. I'm about to buy a cla45s, and my rims like 40.000 danish kroner (4.000 pound). Ive desidet to go with the 360 camera so i dont hurt my rims. maybe you coult show how it works, so i never ever scratches my rims again :-)
Thanks for another excellent and well-explained video. I have a question: Why are some Mercedes emblems on the grille are solid and others are hollow and have the grille visible behind them, when both cars have sensors and Parktronic (same packages and same class models). Thanks in advance.
Hey Black_Benz, just depends on the model and design etc :) Different designs and facelifts come out usually every 3-4 years which can change this sort of thing
Hi Nick, Nice video. I have a query regarding adaptive cruise control/ driving assistance pack retro fitting in a A class 250 premium plus. I have seen people getting in done in after market and it had most the required sensors. Why Mercedes doesn't do it officially or any downsides?
Hey Praveen, Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! No sadly most Mercedes-Benz dealerships are only allowed to sell the cars as they are described on their spec sheets so modifications are never offered once they're built. I have never heard of someone achieving this mainly because the Driving Assistance Package has a huge array of items added at factory compared to a car without it. Things include: Upgraded radar in the front bumper Upgraded radar in the windscreen, along with a Traffic Sign Assist camera Upgraded Rear Sensors for Pre Safe New Mirror Housings for Blind Spot Assist Upgraded Software to adjust settings And Upgraded steering wheel to actually control the adaptive cruise control I'd be curious to see if someone had achieved it but it wouldn't be easy and could be very expensive!
My 2021 GLC 300 will not let me accelerate, or decelerate in 1 MPH increments. It only goes either way in 5 MPH increments. I hate it. Hit the up button and the car takes off up to 5 MPH rapidly. Is that just the way it is ???? Love your videos Nick…..
Hey Greg, ah just move that button slightly. It should have two increments on it. Move the set button lightly for 1 mph and harder for 5 mph. Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Hey Paul, there’s an option to enable it in Vehicle Settings on the centre display. On COMAND NTG 5.5, press HOME, then Vehicle then Vehicle Settings or if it’s MBUX it’s HOME then Settings and then Vehicle. (Slightly different layouts for each)
Thank you for your video. If you cancel the cruise, the speed is still there dimmed in grey, is there a way, i remove the dimmed grey speed used before rather than turning the engine totally off?
No sadly that’ll stay there, be sure to check out my frequently asked questions series I produced at my local Mercedes showroom, I answered that one here plus loads of other useful ones! ua-cam.com/video/dNd2CyH-BIY/v-deo.htmlsi=7NO3a1ugb7CMyGBc 2nd one in the video 🤓
Hi Nick I've had a B250e Premium for a month and your videos have been really important to getting to understand the car. I'm a bit confused though as it has the speed assist but not traffic sign recognition, but the car changes the speed when it sees a different speed limit sign on a side road. Obviously it was a bit disconcerting at first but as I knew the road I ignored the beeps! So, what's going on?
Hi Jeff, it depends to be honest. If your car doesn’t have Traffic Sign Assist, then it’ll be using Speed Limit Assist which uses the Sat Nav data from the in built navigation system (MBUX). If you’ve got it enabled it can beep/chime if you go over the speed limit 🤓
@@npoleary Hi again Nick I had a Passat GTE before which got Speed limits through the Sat Nav. Just gone into the manual again and it says it gets the Speed limits from the camera, which my car does have, although the car does not have Traffic Sign Assist. A bit confusing though if it takes Speed limits from side roads! Is this a fault?
This can happen in the manuals as they are generic, sadly won’t be individualised down to the spec of the car. It should only pick up the speed limit of the road you’re on though
When I got my brand new EQB350, I inadvertedly activated the speed limit function which was preset to 20 Km/h. I thought the car had broken down on me the first day! 🤣
Nick want to ask about the auto resume via speed sign … as you said if you double press the resume it will go to that speed … so you press it and the car now is at 40 if the car then sees a 20 speed sign does it slow to 20 and hold if your on a busy freeway and the system starts slowing you up it will be very annoying to other drivers in Australia on a freeway I’ve seen it change the speed change to 80 km for no reason in a valid 110 km zone if I’m on the sign cruise the cars behind will love you for slowing 30 km if the system miss reads the sign or uses the gps data for speed which I feel is the reason for the speed sign change. I’m not a fan if it’s using gps data as I am so glad I was not on speed sign cruising as it relies on valid data in the gps hope I’ve explained this ok. Great videos .
Hey John it won’t auto change the speed as you’ll have to do it manually (this is how it is in the UK anyway). Here you have to have the Driving Assistance Package with Active Distance Assist Distronic on to utilise auto changing of speeds.
The speed is only automatically changed for cruise control - for the speed limiter, you have to manually change the setting (press the Res button once). This applies only if you have the driving assistance package, BTW.
Nick, Can you clarify when you click Res twice I’f the dash symbol is traffic sign A or M , A (Auto) will set cruise as per every traffic sign and M you have to double click Res to set for every sign change
Hey iSteve, pressing resume twice just brings up the either a cruise control symbol or the words LIM. A (Auto) & M don’t have anything to do with cruise control or speed limiter. I don’t know without seeing it what that symbol is to be honest. With Traffic Sign Assist / Speed Limiter Assist, to copy the sign you have to press up twice all the time to use it. If you’re lucky enough to have the Driving Assistance Package then this will work automatically for cruise control (Active distance Assist) if you have it enabled. Speed lim is still manual on both. Hope that helps!
Unfortunately no it’s illegal to have that in Germany 😕 And Mercedes-Benz are based there so they’ve never been able to design anything like that 😞 There is a potential workaround though! If you have Smartphone Integration (Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) you can use Google Maps or Waze which has this built in. Of course this does depend on your model and if you have it as it’s not standard equipment usually.
Hi Nick Me again and off topic I'm afraid. Thank you for your suggestions regarding my "bong". I don't appear to have traffic light assist and I have turned off speed limit assist without success. It is definitely linked to route guidance, if I don't have a destination selected I don't get the bongs. When I do, every time I approach a junction or roundabout designated by a blue spot on the map, I get a bong when the forward camera cuts in, and again every time a blue arrow shows up or I pass another blue spot. This means I can get several in short succession going roun a large traffic island. I'm pretty sure the car did not do this when it was delivered, or am I going doo-dally! Your advice, as ever, would be appreciated. Best Regards Richard
Hi Richard, Sounds like someone’s changed the announcements 🤓 Press: HOME NAVI SETTINGS ADVANCED ANNOUNCEMENTS Turn off acoustic signal only is probably on, change it to reduced driving recommendations
Hey Henrik, I believe it’s down to cost. If the Driving Assistance Package was standard, then the whole car would be more expensive. Just out of curiosity, what brands offer this as standard equipment, I’ve never heard of this before?
@@npoleary One example is the Toyota Corolla where the cheapest baseline sold (at least here in Norway) has adaptive cruise control. (ref: www.toyota.no/new-cars/corolla-hatchback/features-and-specs.json ). Another example is Volvo's new XC40. Kia's Sorento is yet another example where the cheapest model they sell here includes it. Maybe it is somewhat market dependent (?), but I don't recall reading about a new vehicle in a long time where it is not offered as standard. (Edit: Almost forgot, my brother bought a Jaguar i-Pace last year and that's another example where adaptive cruise was a baseline feature.)
Ah Henrik, that’ll be why Here in the UK, I haven’t seen a single car that has adaptive cruise as standard. Don’t get me wrong, I would love it on all cars but it’s something that isn’t offered here yet as standard equipment. Let’s hope for the future though! I’ll be buying one of those if that happens 😅
Question: My speed be 69kmh while the street traffic sign says 50kmh. When i double tap to reset the Limiter to the current traffic sign speed limit, the car gets automatically slowed down to 50kmh within 4 seconds, i.e. without my feet touching the brake pedal. Does the car behind me see my red brake lights lighting up during these 4 seconds or not?
Nick a HUGE question can I set speed limiter at 20mph as I’m from London and all my roads are 20mph limits Second question is Apple car play a standard or do I pay for it I’m buying one second hand Thanks and God bless
Thank you for your videos... this is not related to the topic. I had a 2007 GL450 and the oil change recommended was every 12,000 miles. Now Mercedes says 10,000. Do you agree with that and why. Just bought a GLE. Thank you.
Ah okay, service intervals here are slightly different but I’d imagine if that’s what they’ve advised then I guess that’s right. In the UK it’s 15k miles or every year whichever comes first.
The double resume is a bit confusing. If you have set the limiter on this journey then cancelled, the first resume reinstates it, which if you were previously in a low limit and are now in a higher limit is a bit disconcerting as it suddenly slows the car. The second press adopts the current speed limit, which incidentally is a much better way of setting it in the first place than using the Set buttons. But if you already have Limiter set, then going into a different limit just one press of Res adopts it. I have to do that each time the limit changes, it doesn't change automatically with speed limit changes, regardless of whether I use one or two presses of RES.
Of course, your follow is also welcome!
so the traffic sign post feature .. i must manually double click on "Res", i.e. the car doesn't adopt the new speed limit automatically . that's a lotta clicking, manually !
Hey Guys!
So to use the cruise control and speed limiter on the stalk (the previous style) here are the movements of the stalk below:
Button on the end:
No light = Cruise Control
With light - Speed Limiter
Up/Down:
Sets it (as to what you’ve chosen above)
Push Away:
Cancels it
Pull toward you:
Resumes the previous set speed
Hope that helps!
Thanks a lot, keep the good work.
Nick, see you mentioned unless u have ‘drivers assist pack’ the cruise control will not brake therefore you still have to manually brake yourself
However how does brake assist come into play ?? I thought that was standard on most models. Wouldn’t that be the same thing?
Thanks
Hey Masato K,
Brake Assist & Active Brake Assist are both Assistance systems standard on all modern Mercedes-Benz that can help prevent a crash.
@@npoleary
Thank you Nick
So if you only have Brake assist but not the ‘active’ it doesn’t stop the car?
Cheers
It will assist you in emergency braking but you’d of course have to go for the brake pedal in the first place.
The word active means it’ll actively do something :)
Whenever I am lost with my new Benz, I always head to your channel. You ought to know you are super duper amazing and very helpful Nick. We can all see the hard effort you put in all your videos. We truly appreciate it. I am a fan, massive fan of yours from Australia 🇦🇺 Please take care~ ^^
Awh thank you Sandy! Glad you like the videos! 🤓

All I wanted was to stop and start over😭😭😭
@sisangile do you have the stalks on your Mercedes for cruise control or is it the buttons on the wheel?
Cheers Nick. You gave me that 'double-click resume' to match road sign speed a few weeks back and I use it constantly now. Great feature. David
Also an important feature is the set button has 2 positions. Short press for +/- 1 mph, hard press for +/- 5 mph increments 🤓
Thanks Sham you're absolutely right! 🤓
Yes!
Nick, Once again your timing is impeccable! I’ve been slowly going through my GLB operators manual and was going to start studying that this weekend. Looks like you did my homework for me again. :-) Thank you!

Hi Nick, Like Simon Greasley, The double click bit was new to me. That’s why I avoid missing any of your videos. Long may you reign. 🇬🇧🇲🇹👍
Haha thanks Joseph! 😇😇
I didn't know the double click for resume to copy the speed sign. Thanks for the tip :)
If you have driving assistance package then the above happens automatically
Another great video - thanks! And as of 14 Jun 2021, just two days after the video was posted, it's had 9,625 views. Shows how highly regarded your videos are.
I know I’m speechless! 😇

No worries Stryker! 🤓

It remembers what you’ve last used 🤓
Hi Nick
You're genius; I am now "Bong" free.

Haha “bong free” 😅😅
Excellent. Thanks Nick! I now know how to properly use the resume function.

Many thanks
Fred
Thank you! 🙏
Ah that’s an easy one, just press the rear wiper button a little harder. It’s a two button switch just like the front wiper 🤓
The left side of the rear wiper button is for a wipe, press hard for a spray and the right hand side is for a timer.
No worries
Negative terminal is just in front / closer to you like a gold/bronze nut 🤓
Hi Nick, suggest about getting in the car with a key fob that has gone flat and more on voice commands, our MBUX doesn't want to tune into radio 5 when we ask..... Others also have noticed it.
Maybe one about changing the key fob to only open the drivers door on the first click....
Keep the videos coming mainly.... Enjoy
Perfect! Thanks Mark excellent suggestions! I’ll add them to the list!

I have covered a basics handover video before but I’m looking to redo it this year but this time with a car with MBUX 🤓
ua-cam.com/video/20Jh6XfbGAU/v-deo.html
The first time I drove a car with cruise control was in Florida. It was a Dodge Ram and when I pressed 'resume' I assumed that the speed would ramp up to the previous set speed. It didn't. It floored it and scared the living cr*p out of me!
Hi Nick
Thanks as ever, I'll give this a try.

Hey Ryan, absolutely! I’ve got that in my suggestions! I’ll defo be covering it in the future! 🤓
Awesome video, very useful. Is there away to automatically update the limiter to the system identified/detected limit?
Hey Daryn,
Yes sort of, however for modern Mercedes car to automatically adopt a speed limit on the road automatically, you have to opt for the Driving Assistance Package which can only be specified at factory. It's a rare one in the UK!
Great piece of kit Nick 👌
Thanks Ian!
@@npoleary Hi Nick,I'll be ordering my A250e shortly 🙏🏼🔥🙏🏼
Ooo exciting stuff! 😜
@@npoleary I keep looking to see what cars are available on tusker site with spec n price ?nothing comes close Nick through salary sacrifice scheme 💥
Thanks IMelkor42,
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for another informative video Nick 👌👍
No problem mark! 🤓

Yoda Nick, amazing, didn’t understand point of speed limiter and didn’t know it would change speed by clicking twice. I need to borrow you. Many thanks
Haha thanks Simon! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
You’re killing me with the weird British expressions! “Dee-ule carriage motorway”!!! 😆😂🤣

@@npoleary Hi, ah no worries thought that was the case. For me they do still stay on even after turning the car on and off, is that normal? Thanks

Sorry Nick I meant traffic sign assist. My car has the symbol but it does not function.
No sadly not it requires an actual stereo camera fitted at factory
Ha!
Nice video bro👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
You may have done a video on this, I'm new to your channel so I don't know. Can you explain all the benefits of having the Mercedes road assist and all the extra things that come with purchasing the vehicle from a Mercedes dealership
Hey Kymberleigh 🤓
I haven’t made a video on it specifically but buying from a main dealership does give you a few extra perks.
Would be great if you could update this for the 2024 GLA 250/4Matic Nick
I’ll add it to the list of potential future videos! Thank you for the suggestion! 🙏
I was today years old when I learnt how the Limiter (LIM) works.
Both on the centre screen
HOME
SETTINGS
ASSISTANCE
TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST
ADOPT SPEED (somewhere in that area)
For turns and roundabouts:
HOME
SETTINGS
ASSISTANCE
And it should be in there, just toggle “Route-based speed adaption” on/off.
If you car has anything, I’ve seen stuff before in
HOME
SETTINGS
ASSISTANCE
SPEED LIMIT ASSIST or TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST
Toggle one of those on and set alerts to “Audible”
Hope that helps!
No it's only there, just bear in mind spec varies massively round the whole world. Where abouts are you based? In the UK?
@@npoleary The vehicle which I have is a U.S. specs vehicle.
Thanks
Hey Paul, I’ve covered it in this video here:
ua-cam.com/video/aaFgs8oAONU/v-deo.html
But no unfortunately you can’t turn it off permanently as it’s classed as a safety system. It’s completely inactive when your indicators are on but of course it will be scanning the road ahead when driving and detecting if the car goes over a lane marking.
You can switch it off per driving session in the settings menu if you want to temporarily switch it off.

Hi Nick, Nice video. I have a query regarding adaptive cruise control/ driving assistance pack retro fitting in a A class 250 premium plus. I have seen people getting in done in after market and it had most the required sensors. Why Mercedes doesn't do it officially or any downsides?
Hey Praveen,
Thank you!
Things include:
Upgraded radar in the front bumper
Upgraded radar in the windscreen, along with a Traffic Sign Assist camera
Upgraded Rear Sensors for Pre Safe
New Mirror Housings for Blind Spot Assist
Upgraded Software to adjust settings
And Upgraded steering wheel to actually control the adaptive cruise control
I'd be curious to see if someone had achieved it but it wouldn't be easy and could be very expensive!
Nice video !
Thank you Dony! 🤓

Hi Nick
I've had a B250e Premium for a month and your videos have been really important to getting to understand the car.
@@npoleary
Hi again Nick
I had a Passat GTE before which got Speed limits through the Sat Nav.
E CLASS 2021 ESTATE REVIEW 🔥
Added to the list of suggestions! :)
When I got my brand new EQB350, I inadvertedly activated the speed limit function which was preset to 20 Km/h. I thought the car had broken down on me the first day! 🤣
Ah, that limiter function is useful! Electric cars are very powerful!
When you press Res twice,
What symbol do you see in the dash, it should be either A Or M with a traffic sign and cruise symbol
Nick,
Can you clarify when you click Res twice I’f the dash symbol is traffic sign A or M ,
A (Auto) will set cruise as per every traffic sign and M you have to double click Res to set for every sign change
It would useful to show the dash board and what it looks like as you’re adjusting the functions
Thanks for the feedback, I’m looking at remaking this video as I have better equipment now to help showcase it 🤓
Thanks Nick, on Sat Nav can you get a speed camera alert?
Unfortunately no it’s illegal to have that in Germany 😕
And Mercedes-Benz are based there so they’ve never been able to design anything like that 😞
There is a potential workaround though! If you have Smartphone Integration (Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) you can use Google Maps or Waze which has this built in. Of course this does depend on your model and if you have it as it’s not standard equipment usually.
Hi Nick
Me again and off topic I'm afraid.
Best Regards
Richard

I'm amazed that adaptive cruise which is standard in most new cars now, even much cheaper cars, is not standard in mercedes cars yet.
Ah Henrik, that’ll be why
Here in the UK, I haven’t seen a single car that has adaptive cruise as standard.
Yes 🤓
Anything that slows down more than engine braking, brake lights will always come on
@@npoleary Thank you for the info! Makes sense too. Have a nice weekend @Nick, cheers! 👍🏻🤗
Nick a HUGE question can I set speed limiter at 20mph as I’m from London and all my roads are 20mph limits
Second question is Apple car play a standard or do I pay for it I’m buying one second hand
Thanks and God bless
A class 2019 or 2015
Yes you can set it at 20mph 🤓
And double check on the actual car if you have it, it’s not standard on all models and makes out there so it can vary
What car did you test drive ? Also, I’ve just ordered a brand new c class will I have the controls on the wheel or separate stalk ?
Hey Digital Junior, I did this video in the EQC 🤓
Ah controls will be on the steering wheel for a new one 🤓
@@npoleary thanks. Comes in two weeks.
Woooo!
Thank you for your videos... this is not related to the topic. I had a 2007 GL450 and the oil change recommended was every 12,000 miles. Now Mercedes says 10,000. Do you agree with that and why. Just bought a GLE. Thank you.
Hi Terri, where abouts are you based? Sorry hard to tell on the UA-cam comments section 🤓
@@npoleary I’m in the US. Just bought a GLE 350
Thanks...
so the traffic sign post feature .. i must manually double click on "Res", i.e. the car doesn't adopt the new speed limit automatically . that's a lotta clicking, manually !
Unless you have the Driving Assistance Package then it’ll do it automatically 🤓
