    Well done again, mate. Husband Phil used to work at the Spenborough Guardian which was just across the road from the Panther factory in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire.

    As they would say in the 60s fires every telegraph pole , keep up the good work. Merry Christmas to you all.

    Machine pleasant to the eye. By the points of friction it has greasers, all to facilitate maintenance and maintain durability. Wide brake drums, although they need more pressure on the levers. This engine, once adjusted by Performance Classics for increased compression, larger valves and an electronic injection to be able to go out on the main roads from North to South and East to West through England, is worth the cost of adaptation. Machine well anchored, safe and stable. Going out with this machine on trips as long as properly regulated is much safer than any scooter.

      No tuning work on this one, Glaico, just basic work to make it run right and be safe to ride. Still sparking by magneto and much preferred to any scooter!

      In my view, scooters are death traps and it is just as well that they don't normally stray from urban streets. Give me one of these any day!

    Typical British weather, my mate had a Panther model 120 in the mid 1980's, they were mostly used as sidecar haulers but my mates was a solo. It never let him down, he used it everyday for travelling to and from his work. Panther's were proudly built by Yorkshire men and women in Cleckheaton. They were tough old motorcycles that were built to last.

      Yes, great old machines. I also have videos of some of the big Panthers I worked on, as well as a rare 350 Model 70 and a Panther 250 / 350 swingarm machine fitted with a Royal Enfield engine.

    I wondered about the speed camera after seeing your post on FB, now I know! Happy it's heading in the right direction Paul. I'll post a link to the FB Panther page.

      Thanks Andy, I mention the number and size of the ball bearings for the steering head races, which might be of interest to the POC.

    I had a Phelon & Moore 'Panther 600' sloper back in the mid 70's and it was an old bike even back then, it had a heavy double adult Watsonian sidecar attached which it hauled with ease. The only problem I had with it was the clutch corks which wore out on a regular basis leading to slip, fuel consumption was excellent if I rode at moderate speed as was the general reliability, starting was a bit of a challenge as a kick back often hurt..

    Well, when you turned up the wick, shortly after exiting the village, on the wet tarmac, I surmised that the initial 'killer handling' was a thing of the past.
    Oh and, I be glad that you were able to hear me, at 06:53 , and comply with my suggestion that you turn on the lamps. Sorry I shouted, a habit, as in France & Germany, there WILL be stiff fines...and perhaps jail, if you forget to do so in inclement weather. Is the motor vehicle code as harsh there ?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 роки тому

      Hi Amelie, it is not a legal requirement [yet] to use lights in the daytime, indeed, machines with no lights can be used on our roads during 'daylight', with lighting up times changing slightly each day, but sometimes it makes sense to use the lights [if fitted] during daytime if things get a bit gloomy, as was the case here.

    It certainly sounds fine, and is a really good looking bike. I'll bet the "bodges" don't end with that carb though. Panthers are very rare over here in the States. I can only recall ever having seen one here "in the wild." If most folks here have heard of them at all, it's usually by reputation because of their big "sloper" singles' acclaimed suitability for sidecar outfits. Never really a major manufacturer on the scale of BSA, Triumph or even Norton, I imagine they must be getting much rarer in the UK too as time marches on.

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 роки тому

      Hi Bill, yes, Panthers are quite thin on the ground, although I have had five here, from 250 cc to 650 cc. All bar the 250, which was abandoned and sold by the owner in a change of plan, feature in videos I have shared here.

    Very interesting bike Paul, as these Panther models are very rare and not liked or taken seriously by most. I have read an article in the Classic Bike Magazine back in 1991 so I am familiar with this model. Cheers

      Hi - that's a tough one! The Triumph Tiger Cub and Trident have to top the list, as well as the BSA B50. Bonkers 2 strokes also feature - I have a Suzuki X5, featured in a video or two, and a Hustler which I must sort out. I am also fond of, and have owned some of the smaller Kawaski triples.

    Interesting ride. I was somewhat confident that, having grown up in the 1960s, in New England, we had access to about everything the UK had on offer. But I hadn’t ever heard of these bikes. Perhaps very few, maybe none, were imported. Glad this one’s back on the road.

    They are a sweet little thing. Up here in Yorkshire (in normal times), you can see two or three together on a VMCC run which is always a treat as i imagine they're probably the least common of the mass market british 350s.

    Had no idea Panther made an upright 350, would the power be the same as a 350 BSA of that year Paul?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Roy, I would say it has similar power to a BSA B31, or RE Bullet, AMC 350 etc, but is probably a bit lighter, so might have a slight edge in performance as a result.

    • @paulhenshaw4514

      @@enfielddnepr The big Panthers had ball and roller main bearings - I personally saw this for myself, as I fully rebuilt an M120 650 cc engine a few years ago. I have not stripped one of the smaller engines, though.
